Would anyone want this.? Seeing I could just have to figure out which .so files it uses and installing all other amazon apks
I think it would be worth a shot just to have it out there for an option to use .
The Kindle launcher is part of why I went with CM7. I just couldn't stand the "book shelf" interface. If you like it, awesome. I know lots of folks love the KF interface. I just am not one of them.
Do it! This is one of the reason's I only experiment with the kernel and not install CM on my Fire! Unlike the previous poster, I am comfortable with having a different interface from what I usually see on my phone and other tablet.

I just want to be able to use the lending library on other devices and roms such as CM7 and ICS.
Please do!
I really don't like the launcher but would love to use the prime lending library as well.

I have gotten this to work on CM7. It is buggy. Will be done with this within a week. I hope anyway
Heres my nonvote. I do not want the kindle launcher and i will not install or even go near a download link.
Id rather try to steal a front grill off the 1957 chevy down the road and then superglue it onto the front of ny kindle than get a launcher that lets me display my library like some bookworm addict.
Have fun dont bruise your page turning thumb.

I don't think anyone is saying they really like it. It's just a lot of the services depend on it. I really want all the prime services in a different ROM.

I don't know if its just me, but I actually kinda like the stock launcher. Its not BAD, its just different. Are there some things I wish I could change? Sure. But there are things I wish I could change with my Sense UI also. I like the idea of being able to install the stock launcher on different ROM's.

for what I use it for, I am actually a fan of the stock UI. I think there are a lot I would change as well, but for now, if you get it ported over, things can be added ad removed to the interface as we see fit.
I reallllllly like the stock keyboard. that is the **** I have been looking for. I guess I found out when I flashed Biffys Blaze ROM

well i just rooted my kindle fire and im not sure what rom to put, i heard some roms dont work with the amazon store after there installed and i want to be able to keep on using it to get my books and read them, but i just CANT Stand the Stock Theme it comes with, and i was wondering is there a rom you could recommend to keep reading books and keep amazon store working while having a different better theme as well as possibly downloading google play ?
I use Cm7 because it very stable. It support google play and not amazon market. I don't need amazon market so that's ok. I'm going to up my kf to jeally bean, every one said that its so good.

It all depends on what you want.
Battery life?
Performance?
The newest thing out there?
I loaded hashcode's stock jb ROM, which was stable and effective, but was a bit too cellphone-y for me, so I dirty flashed Jandy Cane on top of it and I love the tablet optimizations. It runs very smoothly and I've had no issues at all. I highly recommend doing it, stock KF software sucks

Don't worry about the amazon store, you can get all the books you want with the kindle app, and everything else will be on google play for the most part. There's always a way to get something. That said, I really like Jandycane, and there are some good, stable ICS based ROMs as well. gedeROM was probably my favorite.

thx, trying
apologies if this has been asked/answered before.
the wife has a kindle fire that i have put CM9 on. and for the most part she is fine with everything.
but she has amazon prime and i guess you can "check out" books for your kindle. but we are having a hard time figuring out how to make that work.
I was able to purchase FREE books and sync them with the kindle app.
but can't seem to get the lending thing down.
any help is appreciated.
thanks!
anybody? nobody reads books on their kindle? lol
Not sure what advice I can give you. I am using a CM10 ROM with a the generic Kindle app for android and I don't have a problem borrowing books. When I am browsing the Kindle book store the books that are available for borrowing (not very many actually) are marked with the "prime" tag just like they are when using a stock Kindle. You may need to be logged in to your prime account to see that but I am not sure since I'm always logged in.

Thanks for the reply - that gives me something to go on..
we would have expected to see what you are seeing, but whenever we press the kindle store icon, it just takes you out to an external web page and its difficult to navigate.
I'll try a clean wipe and install of cm10 tonight and see if that helps
Thanks!

Actually I am seeing the same thing you are getting (the web page). That is the way that the generic android Kindle app works. Unfortunately there is a huge difference between the Kindle app built into the stock Fire os and the android app (stock is much better). I have read several threads by people wanting to install the stock app on a custom ROM but I am not sure if anyone has been successful. You might want to try searching for that.

I LOVE my jelly bean Kindle but miss my stock Kindle reader a lot. I've searched and read a lot and find references focusing the stock launcher to load the stock reader but it doesn't work for me ("sorry, launcher has closed"). I've seen other references to 'dual booting' being the only solution (I don't think I miss it enough to boot every time I want to read - I do have a kindle keypad if I really need to get a fix .
[Q] Anyway, I just wanted to ask here whether anyone knows whether/how I can use the stock reader on my CM10 ROM.

Hi, obviously this post is looking kinda dead, but I am definitely interested if you've found something elsewhere? I am looking into rooting my girlfriend's kf for her but I am sure she wouldn't want to lose a major feature such as that. I know they are alternatives but like you said im sure it would be missed and a deal-breaker for her to flash a rom
Don't be worried about that! The google play kindle app is basically the same one you have with the stock rom!

So not! It is painful to lose the stock kindle reader (have u seen the ipad ad? Maybe the android app will get updated...)
Anyway, dual boot is the only way to have both. You will also lose video streaming.

I installed Flash and stream Amazon Video via the website. As for the stock reader versus the one the one from Google Play, I can hardly tell the difference.

The only difference it's the losing of the changing font feature.
I have a first gen Kindle Fire. Definitely would love to be running a custom rom (running AOKP 4.2.2 on my phone and love it). But the one and only thing keeping me from experimenting is the lack of Amazon Instant Video app. I know this has been discussed at length, but wanted to know if any progress has been made. I am aware I can view videos from the browser, but I prefer the options run videos from the app and download them for it for viewing later if I'm not on wifi. It's one of my favorite features of the Kindle and if I run a custom rom then that is gone. Hopefully some progress has been made, but from a quick search I can't find anything.

Could a separate app be developed that does that? Of course that's coming from me. I can barely install an app much less develop one. But I'd buy more movies and shows if I was able to use it on more devices I own other than just my Kindle.

Well im sure it would be possible to, but im just going to sit and wait until the Kindle line fails, and then amazon releases the app on android.
Can somebody point me in the direction of a thorough how-to for dual booting? Im definitely over this stock launcher.

I'm 90% sure the answer will be along the lines of either it's impossible, or you would have to edit the app to make it work on android.
But is there a way to extract the Playstation Vue app from the fire tv and run it on your phone?
Is it at least feasible?
TIA

Pretty easy. Back it up with es file explorer and send it to your device. It'll probably install but most likely you'll need amazon app store for it to work. From there I'm not sure. Give it a try

Thanks. I'll try that tomorrow and report the results!
EDIT:
Well, I downloaded it using apps2fire.
It installed on my phone, but when I open the app, it says it's not authorized on this device.
I figured as much.
Guess there's not really much one can do, is there?

That was expected. That's all I know. The app is made to work for fire devices so unless you can trick it into thinking it's running on those...and I don't know that there is. I remember awhile back trying to get a game that was free for fire tv (paid for android) to work and had no luck.
There is a post on xda somewhere which tells you how to put the app on a non Sony device, I done this before on my Motorola xoom & my Samsung S5, after you put the app on you have to change the data & obb files for the app in Android/ to make it work, do a Google search or a xda search & I'm sure your find it.
(Sorry I thought you ment the older the one with the games not the newer app which streams tv)
But maybe this is possible soon? But it looks like if your in the right part of the world at the moment you can get it & even download it from the amazon store
Hope this helps If so press that thanks button
Thanks guys.
It's not really a necessity, more of a curiosity.
Also, deanr1997, I don't think there's an app for Sony devices either.
Far as I know it's iOS and fire tv only, besides ps3 and ps4, of course.

Ah ok, gotcha.
Yeah, it's a real great service. I'm streaming ps4, ps3 and fire tv simultaneously with great picture quality.
I get better channels then I had with dish, and for $55 instead of the $150 I used to pay.
But dish did have a mobile app that I could watch TV on the go.
Not so with psvue.
In any case, it's well worth it.

Just too add a little info about how this limitation might be working. I have 3 firetv devices and one of them is a rooted Fire TV v1. The prerooted stock 5.05 image is not yet available for this device so it is my only device that isn't on the latest firmware. It appears that the VUE app is checking if you are on the correct version of the Fire OS as VUE does not work on my V1 box but works fine on the other two.
I would like to try this but not sure it's available in the UK yet?

can you see what your build.prop looks like on the FireTV? you may be able to just manually edit it to trick the app into thinking it is a different device. What this might do to the rest of the apps however, I am not sure.
Anyone have any luck on this? I was able to install the android tv app on my S5 but it wont find a network for some reason. Would be great to have the fire tv version on a mobile device.
can you help me download kodinolimits i cleared all data from my box when I try to download it it says error check log
I read through the thread, and maybe missed it somewhere, but what exactly are you trying to do with the PSVue app after you extract? Or I guess more iportantly, what is the intent of your post? Outside of the obvious as you stated initially. This thing was a pain in the ass to get going on my rooted firetvs and sticks.
