I was on here late last night and was looking thru a thread and someone said when you wipe cache and dalvik you should do so several times. I had some issues with my phone the other day. Evidently my phone doesn't like being severely undervolted. Thank God for nandroid. Also system tuner pro was giving me fits to. So I decided to reflash my rom. I had been running faux kernel with the skyrocket mods. So I wiped data/ reset twice then wiped cache and dalvik twice . Flashed rom and fixed permissions twice. My phone is now smoother then its ever been. I'm not using fauxs kernel either. So the moral of the story is next time you flash or wipe. Make sure you do so a few times. Hope everyone had a great new year! !

Yeah I use to only wipe things once, but the past few roms I've been wiping everything 3 times with no problems that I would run into after only wiping once. I've also read a few people saying that after you wipe everything multiple times and flash your rom..flash the rom again directly after...not sure what exactly that does if anything, but a few do it. If anyone knows what exactly that does flashing the rom twice in a row please let me know. Not possible to have too many good habits if your a flashaholik lol.

Is there a superwipe script like there is for the sensation and the amaze it seems to work great. I always get a clean flash and it works great gives you one thing to do before you flash a rom and a clean install.

Ive never wiped cache and dalvik when flashing roms. Maybe I should. Can I do this now after the fact or would this erase all my data?
When exactly do you wipe dalvik and cache? before and after a new rom install?

I guess if your not having any issues then you don't need to worry about. I always wipe dalvik and cache in recovery before a flash a rom or kernel or a theme.

You are lucky if you don't have any problems. You suppose to wipe dalvik and cache partition before flash/install a new rom. Wipe the dalvik and cache partition in recovery shouldn't erase your data, but if you don't have any problems then I guess you're ok.
Lawl. Funny thread.

You're going to want to wipe dalvik and cache (as you always should when Flashing something). Possibly even battery stats if you want to play it safe
Treat kernels just like you do roms I don't want you to be paranoid

Don't wipe data
Do wipe cache
I never wipe battery stats, but I suppose you could.

Just make sure to ONLY wipe cache and dalvik cache. This will ensure that the kernel is flashed correctly with no traces of the previous kernel. Again, like said previously, treat flashing kernels as you do flashing ROMs. It's easy, and if anything goes wrong (rarely ever happens, unless you use a kernel not designed for the EVO, LoL) then it can always be undone by reflashing
Good luck and enjoy! You'll be fine br0
For completeness....(? it's Christmas)
Due to some possible wipe (recovery) issues:
Wipe cache , twice.
Wipe Dalvick , twice.
IIRC
Thanks all for your help. I looked at a couple of different kernels, which one do yall think is the best mainly for the battery anyway?

I'm running SBC-net 4.2.2. And it runs great for me. Good battery and is smooth.
Do you have a link that I can download that kernel?

Hello people!
Have searched the forums and also tried googling but have not found a certain, conclusive answer to my question.
The question is when do we have to wipe the cache and dalvik cache?
I know what to wipe when flashing a new ROM but what about radios, RILs and kernels? What do we have to wipe when flashing the above so as for the phone to run optimally? Before or after flashing them?
Thanks in advance
Developers of the rom will tell if a full wipe is needed , if your updating. If your coming from another rom, you need to perform a full wipe.
No wipe required when flashing radio, Ril and kernel.
If you are going to perform a wipe you do it before you flash anything.

You mean you don't even have to wipe battery stats when flashing a new Radio?
I thought otherwise but I am not certain...
Anyway, thanks for answering
As far as I know you don't need to, the only time bat sat are recommended to be wiped is when flashing a rom and you have battery issues. But others say wiping battery sat doesn't really help with battery..

Ok thanks for the info!
I just sifted through the forum and couldnt find anything so is there a special thing you have to do if you want to return to Sense after CM 7 and MIUI? Or can you just flash a Sense rom?
I remember on the Fascinate we had to ODIN a stock ROM after because of MTD BLM.
No you can just flash. Well you should clear data/cache.
I normally wipe data factory
wipe cache
format system
clear davlik
clear battery
then flash.
Might be to much but thats normally what I do and Ive never had any problems.

I would definitely wipe all those, especially from an AOSP Rom to a Sense Rom
FWIW, I do the same, except I don't bother to wipe battery stats.

Make sure you return to a stock kernel as well (if you changed it). From what I have heard, sense and AOSP kernels are not compatible with each other.

Hey guys so I just flashed this rom on to my phone:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1175842
It looks amazing, but how do I get it to work without all the force closes?
Nils says this in the thread:
"If you choose to flash over without a wipe and have lags, FC's, things missing, or things just don't work right then flash again with a complete wipe"
What does he mean by a complete wipe? and how do I do this? Thanks everyone!
Use Rom manager(found in market) boot into recovery. You will see 2 wipe options Data and cache partition. Wipe both 3 times each. Still in recovery click on advanced. Wipe dalvick cache 3 times. Then install rom.
Full wipe

You don't need to wipe each thing 3 times; it's the same code executing, so once is perfectly fine.
anyway, like MagnaCore said, a full wipe is:
Factory Reset
Wipe Data/Cache partition
go to advanced
wipe system
wipe data
wipe dalvik cache
I think that's where they're located; can't remember 100% for sure tho.
I'd do what the poster above me said, and /system is actually in the "mounts and storage" menu in recovery.
Ah that's right couldn't remember where it was for sure. Thanks for the correction.
No problem. Always a good thing to remember to wipe, since it isn't covered by the wipe data/factory reset option. IMO it's better to be more thorough with WHAT you're wiping as opposed to doing it multiple times..

Exactly.
I usually do the factory reset, wipe data/cache, go to mounts, wipe system/data/cache again, and then go to advanced and wipe dalvik cache; just to make sure I got everything.
Bmw, you have .92 hboot, yes? You'll find force closes with this if not.

The dialer program crashes after a call ends. Any way to fix this?
Try a full wipe and clean install. This problem shouldn't be happening. I'm on the same build and I've never experienced this.
Task650 AOKP 4.1.2 JB. 11/18 Build
Underwear kernel (Intellidemand/Deadline)
I only had this problem after dirty flashing. Once I FULLY WIPED!!!!!! it hasn't been a problem since.

I just reread task's OP and realized I forgot to wipe davlik cache. I've flashed a couple ROMs and haven't done that (only wipe data/factory rester & wipe cache partition) and it has worked fine. Should wiping davlik cache be part of my standard procedure before flashing a ROM?
