[Q] Where is game / app data stored / folder location in Ice Cream Sandwich ICS - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Where is game / app data stored / folder location in Ice Cream Sandwich ICS?
In GB, it was stored in: /data/data/
But that folder is empty in ICS?
I'm trying to find a way to backup the progress of all my games before having to reset the device in order to root it.

I think you need to use root explorer to copy and paste the file somewhere else so you have access to it. Don't know for sure.

My phone is not rooted but I did installed ES Explorer from the market and it does let me look at system folders.
I looked in the /data/data folder where game/app data is usually stored/located but it was empty?

Shameless plug, but I have a guide for this here
If you have a specific game you want to back up, you can just do a command such as:
adb backup com.zeptolab.ctr-paid /backup/cutTheRopeBackup.ab
Click to collapse
If you add the flag -apk to the command, it'll back up the APK as well. Basically, just add the package names in order that you would like to back up (the downside to this is that you have to know the full package names for the apps), or just do a -all backup to backup everything.

Thanks! Still will be nice to know where Google moved /data/data/ to in Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS)

I am rooted. I looked in /data/data/ and that folder is empty on the Gnex, but on the Evo3D, there are tons of folders where the APK's have stored their app data.

YOu need Root explorer by Speedsoftware for this!!
It is still stored in /Data/Data
Use TT backup/Root Explorer and don't forget to remount as R/W!!!!

Have you looked in /data/app-private?
ES may need to have the root option checked in settings...

I have since, been rooted!

I am looking for the data in my phone but I can't found it,
My phone is rooted,
In the root folder I have and data folder, but is empty,
I also have an datadata folder and is also empty.
I have the OI file manager.

There's apps for that lol
EDIT : I forgot but it backups your data as well.
I use App Backup Restore by INFOLIFE religiously every flash, I actually back them up to an external HD because of the numerous times I'd forget and flash anyways.
And as for your actual question mine are located in /sdcard/Android/data/
I use Root Explorer and File Manager(free) and they both seem to work great when it comes to locating files howeverrrr! I did just come across a bug myself, I usually ADB my game data files with no problem but when I tried a big file size (ie. The dark knight rises), it said it was on the phone (settings/storage) but I couldn't find the file for the life of me with any file manager which resulted in a re-flash. I hope you have better luck!

You all need to keep in mind that the SD card is simulated! As are most of those folders.

Also the root directory for games/apps is usually data/data/(appname) sorry didn't realize it saved in two directories.

Cannot move files to the system directory.

I downloaded a new boot animation. I'm trying to move it to /system/customize/resourses but es file explorer and Astros say file cannot be moved. I was able to move the original file out. Now I can't even move the original back. In ES I made sure the root explorer and mount file system boxes are checked. I have the permissions checked but still nothing can be moved in.

Does either of those apps have root permissions? Idk cuz I don't use them..but its easy to just use adb to manually push the file
I've never used adv to do this. Is there a how to somewhere?

Use Root Explorer. So worth the $2. I don't use astro or ES, but if you can't copy or move anything in or from the root directory then / is probably not mounted as r/w. Look for an option while in the root directory that says "mount as r/w"

Yep root explorer is your best option. adb push can be used to, but its command line only.
Well I know what caused me to have this issue but I do not know the details why.
I was running the Mikrunny Odex ROM with the Red theme. I wanted to give the Coredroid theme a try so I installed the theme and this issue started. After many hours of trying to fix this I restored my backup from a couple weeks ago that has the red theme and all is good again. To reduplicate the issue I reinstalled the Coredroid theme and the issue returned.
I use es file explorer and i have no issues moving things to the system folders whenever I want. If its not working you may try to uninstall and reinstall the app and then go to the settings and make sure you check browse as root and mount system as r/w.

Yep, did that too. I think it had something to do with a theme I installed. When I restored a previous backup I could use ES just fine to move the boot animation file.

Dumb question on APKs

I have a Soundboard I dl'ed, I need to know where it gets saved (installed). Because I want to pull the sound clips from it.
Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk 2
Should be data/app
Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk 2
I should be able to get the audio clips from there true?
Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk 2
If the sound clips are part of the app, you should be able to extract the apk and find the sound files inside. They will probably be in ogg format if they aren't in a format that only the app can read. If you can't find the sound files, check in /data/data/com.processname.ofapp. They may be cached in a format that you can play with a normal media player.
If all of those fail, check your SD card. Some sound board apps allow you to set the sounds as ringtones or notification sounds. If this app allows you to do so, it will probably write the files to your SD, either in the "media" folder on your SD card or in /sdcard/Android/data/com.processname. Check the Android/data folder even if you can't set the sounds as ringtones, you might luck out.
Hope you find what you're looking for. If you can't, send me a pm with a link to the app and I'll try to get them for you.

You have to be rooted and be using a root enabled file explorer. The apk is in /data/app. I use Root Explorer, but there are free ones available. Rom Toolbox comes with one. If you aren't rooted or just find it to be a pain, download Astro and use the function to backup the app. The apk will then be stored wherever Astro puts the backups - you should be able to find it on your SD card. You can then extract the apk and hopefully find the files. If the apk is protected, you will need root and a root file explorer to get the apk. If protected (you'll be able to tell because Astro won't let you back it up), the apk will be stored in /data/app-private. Remember that we're on internal storage, not the SD card.
If you can't get it, just send me a message and I'll try to do it for you.

Delete unwanted files and folders under sdcard directory

hi, under my sdcard directory i can see 2 android folders. one is "Android" and the other is "android". is this a redundant folder? Should i delete one of them? Or are there really 2 "android" folders in jelly bean. And also can i safely delete hidden files left by uninstalled apps, those that starts with "." as in "sdcard/.doubletwist" . I have uninstalled doubletwist long ago and i just found this out lately. Is is safe to delete ./doubletwist then?
thanks

There are no apps on the "sdcard" on a gnex. I would delete the .doubletwist directory. I only have an Android folder but I would look at file modification dates in both folders to see if one wasn't being used. JM2C

Clockworkmod backup folder location?

So I feel like a noob, but here goes. Going into restore from recovery shows to backups I created. I can not find these folders from any explorer. I've checked all /clockworkmod/backup folders under /storage/ and they are all empty. I also tried searching for boot.img and gave up after a few mins, I also searched various responses on the net.. So where else could the backup folders be, i'm running a 4.2.1 rom.
Thanks

Recovery still shows two folders and shows the location as /sdcard/clockworkmod/backup/ and ES file explorer shows that folder as empty.
So I don't think it is working. I let a search from root finish for 1970-03-02.03.38.38 which is showing in recovery and it found nothing. I'm curious why recovery is showing these folders, does it keep a list of backups in a file somewhere.
Figured it out. Right in ROM manager it states, In Android 4.2 backups are placed in secure directory, inaccessible to other apps.
So anyways..
*edit*
If anybody else happens across this, if you enable root explorer the secure folder where the backups are can be accessed.
In my defense I didn't have rom manager installed...

use "ES Filexplorer" and enable hidden files in the settings menu. Then go to the root folder in ES and look for a folder called mnt and you will find it in there

Now this one just makes me wonder. I was cleaning out some files and of course I ran across this one. I have, actually two backup files. Im deleting the older, however I noticed something odd and pulled up properties of the file. I have no idea as to why it says the file was created in 1969 or as it says 1970 in the file. Is this some possible issue?

No. When you reset a phone, it doesn't have the correct time. it's like replacing the battery of your bed alarm clock. So when you create a file, it will use this date.

Well that's even more odd. You think that if it didn't know the correct time or date, it would probably reset to 2000. But 1969, 1970? Weren't PCs way back then, so where's this very odd number coming from? A Grand-Father Clock? There was a period that many PCs weren't ready for when the time came. The turn of the century, when 1999 went to 2000, it was a numerical difficulty with Computers. Kind of makes what you are saying difficult to believe shall I say. It's a really odd number to reset to.

I noticed something similar to this as well. I used TiBu to restore the SwiftKey app and settings from my 1st Gen N7. After restoring it, the English language pack wouldn't download. After Googling around, they recommended deleting languagepacks.json from the sdcard/Android/files/com.whatever directory and even with root access and Root Explorer I wasn't able to delete the file. I had to do it through TWRP and even that didn't solve the issue. I had to format internal storage to solve my issue. Needless to say, I've been much more careful about using TiBu since then.

I actually ran into a similar issue on my N7v1 last night. I wanted to copy over all my apps and settings, so I attempted to copy the various files in my Titanium Backup backup folder. I tried using adb pull, but it failed to copy over any of the apks. The other files (properties, etc.) copied, but not the applications. This seemed very weird. Then things got weirder.
I looked at the ownership/permissions/etc. and they were all identical. I had read/write access to everything. So I tried tar'ing them all up on the device, as root, to copy over one big archive. No dice. Even tar couldn't read the files. I tried coping them to another directory, but that failed too. I could only move or delete them - not copy/read/etc.
I assumed maybe something was wrong with the backups, so I deleted them all and redid the TiBu backup. Problem persisted even on these new files I just made.
It reminded me of an issue I had with TWRP when Android changed around the file system location of the sdcard. When that happened, I couldn't access my nandroid backups either, or even delete them. I actually had to make a flashable zip to get rid of them.
So I had an idea. My current TiBu backup location was "/sdcard/TitaniumBackup". The /sdcard directory points to "/storage/emulated/0/". So I deleted all the backup files again, changed the TiBu backup location to the latter and ran the backup process again.
Voila. I could now read/copy/everything all the files in that same directory, albeit with a different path.
Anyway, I thought I would share this because it sounds like a similar issue. Try using the full path and not the /sdcard shortcut and see if that works.
