While I appreciate the offer, it's really not any more than theming and modifying the installed apps of the stock ROM, not an actual custom ROM. Now a port of 2.3.4 or ICS to our locked phones would be cool.
Right now I'm running the ICS theme with ADW using the ICS theme for it as well. With V6 Supercharger script and Kieran's tweaks, my Play is rocking sweet.

What I meant to say was IF it's not anything more than theming... Funny how that one little missing word changes the meaning. That's what I get for texting replies after working 3rd shift and no sleep. I'm going to bed now before I post any more gibberish.

It would be cool and also impossible, as your bootloaders are locked, you are unable to flash kernels, and ICS will not boot on a GB kernel.

I would like for the R800x to focus on gaming, I don't mined if i only had one screen, have launcherpro'ish options for cool customization. Make it so games and emulators get full power or even more( if possible on locked bootloader). then the rest like sound(EQ), camera(and all that apply.), and then all the other goodies that make it a phone. I'm more into the art side of computers, I wish i new how to program for this thing I would love to help. overall FAST and STABLE. I know that sounds easier than it is. Hope for the best. Cola6 is kinda close but i still want all my games. Don't care for the other stuff.

For me, stock rom + DooMKerneL is the best combo
smallest size and arguably fastest to use / navigate is cola rom
it looks plain. no fancy UI or features.
has battery % bar to if you need it

This.
Highly recommended. Great battery life too
I'm using darkforest rc2 and I'm loving it. Has alot of the bloatware rubbish removed and has a nice ICS theme pre installed. It also can be used with the stock kernel as it's based on stock. So if I'm not mistaken there is no need for an unlocked bootloader. But that's also true of the cola RoM already mentioned.

Hey everyone. My Mother-in-Law has the Sprint SGSII and.....she hates it! She needs the capabilities the phone offers for her business, but she is extremely frustrated with the UI of Android. She is currently running the most recent ICS update. I am curious to know, from experienced users of this phone, what the most user-friendly ROM is - considering the end user.

I recommend the Blu Kuban Rom, its pretty much drama free. Use Odin to install a rooted version of ICS, then install CWM Recovery. Once that is installed slap the Blu Kuban ROM onto your SD card. Boot into recovery and install the ROM.
You will want to read some FAQs and guides if you haven't done it before.

My vote goes for stock with Apex launcher, the feature to lock the desktop is amazing for newbie android users, grouping shortcuts, customize the bottom icons, slight theming, working good so far.
I've rooted my SGS3 & am running StrongSteve's Odexed Blue, but this is my first Android phone & rooting experience. I will definately read the stickies & FAQs before I do anything. Hopefully the Epic 4G Touch isn't too different from my SGS3.

Stock, let the mother in law deal with Sprint especially if she uses her phone for business. Next thing ya know you get blamed if she misses a call or gets a late text.
Try a different launcher like apex or nova first. Lots of ppl also like go launcher, many themes
I have Nova launcher and I like it. Or go to settings, apps, select all, go to twlauncher and clear defaults then hit the home key to switch to twlauncher and you can make it your default for a straight Android look.

Go gingerbread and run stock or a stock ROM with tweaks. I'd say go with either blazers 4.1 calks 3.0 or unofficial ICS gingerbread ROM. ICS is just poo.

I got my tech retarded dad an evo 3d and put an AOSP ICS rom on it for him.It seems to be working well enough. As such I cannot recommend an AOSP rom enough for simplicity and ease of use. Google is like pretty good at what they do and IMHO AOSP is the cleanest, simplest to use option available. Keep the stock launcher and just put phone, browser, text and email in it...

No ROM is going to fix stupidity. No offense to your in laws.
That being said blu Kuban is a good choice for customizing to her specific needs. I usually refer to it as the "build your own ROM" ROM. However she may be a little daunted by the frequent updates and large amount of options. If you do choose that ROM I would highly recommend that you familiarize yourself with the faq in my sig so you can send to any issues she may have with it. Also any ROM by team VeNuM, especially m'ICS or blue BOA would be a good choice as far as stability is concerned.

Hehe, none taken. She's not stupid, just "technologically challenged."
I can't remember where I saw the screen shot, perhaps an article on Android Authority, but I seem to recall seeing an initial setup screen shot from a GNex w/JB - shortly after Google launch party. That screen shot allowed two options, basically beginner or advanced mode. I believe I came away with the impression that was geared towards the UI too, not the setup method.
Now, I know JB ROMs are in alpha stage for the e4gt. Do you think I should wait for, what looks to be, an official JB release for the SGSII from Samsung?
Thoughts? Has anyone else seen, read, heard, or experienced this "beginner mode" on JB - or were the paint fumes at my office gettin' to me more than I thought they were that day?
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda app-developers app
JB roms are not quite ready yet. There was some type of easy setup thing though. Honestly your best bet would probably be a simple launcher and lockscreen.
Keep it stock. Use a different launcher and remove all but one screen. Put the things she uses most on it as shortcuts, then lock it so she can't accidentally mess it up. Did that for my wife and it really helped!
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda app-developers app
no rom will fix this try Mihome miui launcher its as simple as it can get good luck
Ive been using the TeAm VeNuM cRaCk StOck[FH23] for the past couple of days and you cant get much more simple than that. Only change I made was switch to the Apex Launcher. The battery life is incredible!!!!

I find GB more stable then most ICS ROMs. Great battery life awesome signal and great GPS locks. Most GB ROMs are complete and done with updates due to ICS coming out. Currently ICS is still being updated and has many flaws. A lot of the devs like ruj and mijjz got their stuff in order but they update a lot and may irritate your mother in law.

I can't seem to find a Rom that im just 100% happy with. I've tried various GB and ICS roms but still am not happy. I like to play the Asphalt racing series and every rom I've tried on still lags. My Xperia Play 4G I've had unbranded bootloader unlocked and have tried cyanogenmod 7 and 9, I've tried the official ICS, nxt, true ancestor, and various other roms. I don't understand swap file or swap partition usage. Im also a user of supercharger v6 script which im not sure if it actually works. Please advise me.

what ICS Official do you use ? is this what you mean ?
i plan to flash this ROM to my Xperia Play , and i plan to unlock the bootloader of my device
what you mean missing the game play ? is the game play getting more laggy on that ROM ?
Yes thats the ics Rom im talking about. I call it official because Sony has been helping that developer finish it. But asphalt 6 and 7 lag on it but very playabe. GTA 3 is unplayable.(same with all ics roms) nova 3 lags. Gingerbread is just what our xperia plays are meant to run. PsXperia games converted for GB are also unsupported. Meaning only ps1 games can play on ics are the small list of officials from the store. so if you want a gaming phone stay with a GB stock or custom rom. Im using 2.3.3 stock with lupus kernel o.c. to 1500ghz and supercharged

hmmm so some games is still uncompatible with the ROM :crying: even the converted ps pocket games with PSXperia :crying:
but isn't ICS has improved memory management for running apps ? then why the game is more laggy & incompatible
based on your testimonial i guess i cancel my plan to unlock bootloader and flash this ICS ROM + custom kernel , for now
until markphyton can make the very stable release ( let's just hope so ) hehehe
i currently using Xperia NXT 1.3 KrisDee with stock kernel ( locked bootloader ), i found this stable custom ROM for GB and great gaming performance
but i have found a few small problem like , missing DLNA feature , cannot like track in music player ( like on facebook ) , cannot sync with senseMe & cannot charge the battery in OFF posistion
Ive had a bad experience gaming on ics. I dont necessarily say ics is unstable. It has came leaps and bounds from where it was on xperia Play its just I think these devices lack the extra hardware requirements. I.e. Cpu,gpu, ram. Gingerbread unfortunately being outdated is still the most stable for gaming. You can still achieve dlna by using es file explorer and setting up ftp with your router, pc. I access all my home files everywhere on my phone.
