How do I get this phone to hold a charge for a day? Right now I get about 6 hours of battery life if I am lucky on decent use.
It is rooted on a black ice rom, running that Franco kernel. Is there something that I am not doing? Do I have to overclock it or?
I seriously almost traded it it for an iPhone just because of the battery issue. Like, it drives me insane and it takes away my freedom lol
Any help would be great

if you're only getting 6 hours, then you're a heavy user. Not much you can do about that, except use your phone less or charge it more.
Run stock for a while...

I'm on sprint and out of the box it was bad bad battery life. I'm sticking with it though hoping someone comes up with a way to get better life out of it.
Use an app like CPUSpy to see if your CPU is ever going into Deep Sleep mode, and an app like BetterBatteryStats to figure out why not. You can also look at Settings > Battery to see what's using up your battery. Tapping the graph at the top may give you more details.
I really am not a heavy user.
So switch it back to stock?

Usage varies man .. i have decent battery life so far with Franco 185 linaro with AOKP linaro rom. I keep the governor set to conservative . And I do overclock as much as I can ...might even be better if I didn't do that . But I get around 10- 14 hours on that setup . I text a good bit and twitter occasionally but spend most of my time on flud news reader. If you stream music all day or Netflix or something then you aren't going to get great battery life .
Make sure your screen brightness isn't high when you don't need it to be ..since the screen is generally what uses the most battery .
My best battery was with lean kernel and slim rom 4 ...but since I went to this new linaro I will forfeit a little battery for fluidity.
The key is just to experiment. There are lots of combos out there and they all work differently for us. There isn't exactly a one stop solution . Just tinker and you will find the light
Ps: I have the 2200 extended battery from Verizon . It is a necessity if you wanna get normal usage. They are listed at forty bucks or something through Verizon ...but if you go to the store they sell them for 20.

Best solution would be to get an extended battery to last you the whole day or an extra cheap one to swap with at the middle of the day
What is your screen on time?

Yes, do this before blaming the phone. Also pay attention to the apps you install and see if any of them are causing the problem. Stock roms are usually less buggy than custom roms.
You would also get more help with your Question in the actual Q&A section.

I don't know how good can the battery life be.. But i am getting 3-4 hours screen time from each charge and around 9-11 hours stand by time which last me for a day..
Wifi/data on all day.
And i consider this is good enough for me at least.
Hi everyone I got my phone 4 days ago and have been through charge cycles but my battery life sucks. I only get a Max of 2hrs on screen time and 12 hours with the phone on (if its in airplane mode the whole time). Also, it takes forever to charge. I charged it from 7pm to 10:30pm and it went from 2% to 34%. And as i type this message (on wifi) I lost 3% battery life. What should I do?
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
Also it seems that display takes up 50% battery (which is good) but as soon as I send one text, phone immediately goes to 50% and display down to 18%. It stays that way all day and rebooting does not help. And the battery percent goes up and down without charging. And yes I have calibrated it multiple times

Yup, I can get 4+ hours screen time, not on power saver. You need to swap your phone out, something's not right.
Something is definitely wrong. I had a 45 minute conversation in my car today with the screen on for navigation and it only drained 15%. I was quite impressed.

Then they'll start charging. My friends Sensation legit needed a back cover for his phone (power button was shot and volume rocker fell out) but he couldn't get one from HTC after three attempts.
Try doing a factory reset. It helped on my S3.

I recently bought a GSM galaxy nexus (NTT DoCoMo version) and I use it on T-Mobile's prepaid network. The original battery that it came with was terrible.. Literally only lasted 7 hours regardless of screen on time. So I bought a stock Samsung battery off eBay thinking maybe it was a bad battery. No help whatsoever. I've flashed different ROMs, radios, and different kernels. Can anyone help me figure out what's going on? I had a Sprint Galaxy Nexus and I could get up to a day on the battery with 2.5 hours of screen on time so I know the Galaxy Nexus can last a long time. What's the deal?

Could you post some info on battery drain statistics from battery settings tab or preferably gsam monitor over a full drain? I could probably help you out, just need some more info. Also try flashing fancy kernel if you haven't already. This is a newer kernel that gives the best battery life you'll find freshly flashed.
Before discharging toget battery stats I would try charging to 100% and using "battery calibration" by NeMa to clean your phone's batterystats file and then drain to zero with a screen flashlight or running gallery slideshow. This can always be a problem no matter how healthy your battery is.

I have flashed a stock 4.2.2 ROM a week or so ago and I was still having this issue. I bought a new battery too and its still happening. Flashed the fancy kernel today and it seems to be helping a lot actually.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
The stock kernel performs way better then what you are experiencing. A custom kernel may help a bit, but it's not magic. I'd recommend using the app BetterBatteryStats in order to find out what's going on.
Do any of you think that me restoring apps would have anything to do with the battery drain? I'm not seeing anything out of the ordinary in the GSAM battery stats but the battery drains way too quickly. 10% per hour even when I'm not using it..

Glad to hear that fancy kernel is helping. It's probably the closest thing to magic you'll find. I agree that 1 hour of screen time and under 12 hours is under par, but I was having these same issues 2 months ago and could not believe how crappy battery life was. It really got better though trying a bunch of different radios to find the right ones, using minimal gapps/resource hogging apps as possible, finding the right build.prop tweaks to use, and most helpful flashing some good reliable kernels like fancy and AK/anarkia that have incredibly useful customizations that stock just doesn't have, I.e., contrast and color settings, battery friendly governors and frequency profiles, optimized smart-reflex, and custom regulator voltages for display.
Well, didn't feel like it lasted too long. Fell asleep with my battery at 33%, woke up 3 hours later and it's dead. I'm ready to throw this phone out the window.

I see you got the app. Good. Now a few minutes isn't enough time to gather reliable stats. Review the results after a full drain cycle of the battery. Check partial wakelocks and alarms for suspicious activity.

Here's what was listed on BBS after a full drain. Do you see anything unusual? I turned my data on and kept it on 2G to prevent the no or unknown signal from eating more battery but that was the only change. Battery life still looks terrible.

No need for the snake oil app, as simply unplugging the phone after a full charge wipes battery stats. Wiping battery stats and draining to zero aren't going to have any bearing whatsoever on this issue and would needlessly shorten the battery's serviceable lifespan.

Okay, I have been getting the sod on my gnex for a long time. Anytime I would launch an app after about 15 seconds into it my phone would freeze and go into sod. I flashed back to stock and sprint replaced my gnex so when I got it I kept it unrooted for a while to see if it was because I was rooted. Same thing happened while I was unrooted. I thought to myself let me use the stock battery to see if the problem might be the extended battery. Sure enough while on the stock battery the sod's stopped. Its been a day now. Has anyone else experienced this, heard of it or can it be possible? Thank you.

Sure. If the battery is unstable and cannot properly sustain its voltage. You say it's reproducible when opening apps. Generally this action will cause the kernel to temporarily increase the CPU frequency and voltage, if the battery cannot deliver, I imagine this can affect Android in multiple undesirable ways
