Rom Suggestion Help - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm getting so frustrated with my phone. I kinda wished I never rooted it.
I keep having glitches happen, most often my SMS messages just DON'T send. they just sit in my out box. I text a lot so this is ANNOYING.
Can someone please recommend a FULLY FUNCTIONAL rom that is worth having? I like sense. Something tried and true but also semi new would be awesome.
Sorry if this isn't in the right place...I took a shot.
Thanks for any help!

Hey I've been using Salvaged-Zen for a long time on Decks 1.3. I just downloaded and flashed Tiamat 4.1.0 with SBC, why do you use 3.3.7 instead of 4.1.0?

If you are flashing it to a ROM already installed wipe cache and Dalvlik-cache first. Flashing a kernal won't do anything to your setup except change how it runs in the backround.

If you want a Sense ROM that just works... Check out my ROM Swagged Out Stock (link in my sig, just hit the XDA button). Another great choice is tommytomatoe's EVO Classic. Both of our ROMs have gone along way from stock, but have all of the stability of stock (and you don't have to switch to AOSP). Check 'em out.

+1 for this sense ROM if you don't want AOSP

Everyone will have a different opinion about ROMS. Mine is either swagged out stock or Synergy.
As far as texts just sitting in your out box, that may be a sprint iussue and not a ROM issue. If you read the sprint forums, its a fairly common problem related to network, not the ROM.

DARKSIDE Dev Team CM7 Hybrid

Hey guys as I am almost done with this Rom, before I finish and release i would like to know what you guys want to see in it? The DARKSIDE really cares about user feedback its the only way development gets better. Let me know. Which launcher do you want to use, ADW (stock in cm7), Launcher2 (AOSP,and my favorite), or Touchwiz (SGS2 stock). Did you want some stock apps sammy included because you have grown to use it. Like I said let me know, but know just cause you ask doesn't mean I will deliver, I also gotta look at what's best for the rom. Thanks again. Lets turn this development section around and bring it back.
Welcome to the DARKSIDE!!!

For me pretty much stock AOSP and everything that is not needed gone. So better performance and smoother

I'd say anything that can be downloaded from the market you could prolly leave out. As for sammy Apps, if you can get them to Work, include them, as long as they're unistallable by the user(I personally don't use them). Did you get the audio bug worked out?

I personally do not like the adw launcher like on CM7. I prefer stock or TW. I have grown accustomed to these two and are the smoothest I have used. Adw has cool features, but I would like this phone as close to stock as possible. If people want adw it's in the market. Or you can add a flashable zip for each?
Either way do what you have to, to make this ROM the best possible and smooth and I am happy.
There is enough hate in the world. Why can't we all get along here ...?

Hello, you seem new to this. The difference between CM7 and Juggernaut, BeastMOD, Domination, Bombardier, and Android Zombie (AKA TouchWIZ ROMs, I like to call them Touch****) ... the difference is that CM7 is made from the stock gingerbread builds, and then the kernels/System files are ported to the device. TouchWIZ on the other hand is full of bloat, which makes it run slow, and isn't as tweaked and optimized as CM7. CM7 would always be far better than Touch****.
Safe Flashing!

there are three choices atm
decks which is at release 5 and is kinda waiting on some new developments kernel wise but is still really good but needs a few tweaks by the user to get it to a useable state.
jared the great has an ics rom which is pretty well set up at the moment but has a few tweaks here and there that need to be worked out.
and evervolv (have no real experience with this one so im sure someone else can chime in and help out with an explanation on what works and what doesnt.)
honestly if you take 5 min to poke around you will see a lot of reactions to all the roms i have listed and you can make a decision ics is pretty hot for the evo right now everyone wants it so your question is being asked all over
hope i helped a little if u have anymore post away and i'll see what i can answer
a lot have camera issues and no 4g. besides, check them out yourself and do a search. Sometimes whats best for someone else might not be for you
they're all pretty buggy, but right now i'd say jaredthegreat roms would be the best. blazing-roms.com
you have to sign up to download any roms, but it takes 5 minutes and its working great for me.

Looks like no one has plugged Decks' ROM yet so I'll do that now. Those who have run his GB ROM know his work is stellar. It's still a beta, so don't expect perfection.

thanks in advance.
This will NOT work on stock-based roms. If you'd like, I can post one for them later today. No guarantee it will work though. I don't run stock.
And I don't know what you are talking about. I've been running CM7 since late December. I have no bugs, it is butter-smooth, everything works, and best of all...being CM7, it is themable anyway you wish. For example, CM7 with the Lucid theme found here https://market.android.com/details?id=com.sonny.theme.lucid&hl=en
is beautiful. Add some ICS themed widgets, and it looks like you are running something even prettier than ICS.
No problems with battery life either. Been getting 18 hours according to Battery Left with a 1.8Ghz OC. You keep saying CM7 is an Alpha but quite honestly, there aren't any bugs on it (provided you keep the GPS on).

Love the idea but not a big fan of CM7. Any chance you can make this compatible with Juggernaut or Macnut?
You want ics transitions. Go to uot kitchen. Upload what it asks. Go to the mod that says ics transitions and apply. Submit changes to the kitchen and wait until its cooked. Irll give you a flasha le zip if there were no.errors. Nandroid backup and flash. Walla!!!! Ics transitions. Ive done this before and seriously takes a max of an hour dependong on how many requests the kotchen is taking. Ive learbed to be resourceful and figure things out on my own. Also it doesnt hurt to check out the Android apps section in General. There are some good guides there for building base roms, theming and kitchen, building ziPS, extracting stuff. All those mods you guys ask the devs to incorporate are there and most are noob friendly.

Looking for nice ROMs for my Galaxy SIII

OK people !

Not to be rude or anything but all one has to do is look at some of the popular ROMs in the development sections to get a pretty good idea. The popular ones tend to always be near the top, provide great documentation and support, and provide pictures and videos to get you a great idea of the experience. Just spend 30 minutes looking over the various options, and flash a few to see which one you want to stick with. Flashing ROMs is so easy nowadays that it really is just a matter of how much time you are willing to spend playing around with them. I'm waiting for Jellybean ROMs before I really make the jump and satisfied with the performance of stock (with Nova launcher) until those JB ROMs become pretty stable and can be used everyday.
You really can't go wrong with any rom currently out. I've tried them all out and they won't disappoint. I'm currently running Freeza's rom and though it's touchwiz based, he really changed it up.

For me they have all basically been the same in regards to battery life. At a minimum I can pull 16 hrs on battery with 4+ hrs of screen on time with each rom. I'm not really into playing games on my phone so that helps. However, battery life is really user dependent because we all use/set up our devices differently...so what may end up being good for me may not be the best battery life for someone else. Definitely give each one a try though and see which works best for you
I'm definitely going to try them all, but god damn are all TW roms almost 1gb in size? I thought sense roms with big @ half the size.

True for the most part. Just offering the OP another option other then TW/Stock roms.
Which stock ROM is the smoothest with the least lag?

No offense but a question like that is not going to get u an answer.. word has it all 4 main tw roms are basically running the same mods and it comes down to looks right now.. plus it kinda depends on your own set up..
I switched to odexed blue because I like blue.. I would make a nandroid and try a couple of them.. flash a different Rom and try em for a day or two each.. see what works best for you. That's the beauty of xda.. you have options..

I don't think that's necessarily true. I've seen a few people post that FreeGS3 is noticeably smoother and less laggy than Blazer. Not knocking Blazer since it may have some other features that people prefer.
For my previous phone (EVO 3D), I tried several Sense ROMs and there was a significance difference in performance among them. Is it such a stretch to assume that a similar variance would be present in custom TW ROMs?

Well I wouldn't know as I've only tried stock, freeza's fre3 and blue odex since coming over from the og epic.. I guess my "word has it" comment came from reading http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=29890564 <-- that
I guess my point is obviously people like all these roms, or they prob wouldn't always be the top four threads all day long...
It really depends on your own preferences as they all appear to be stable and running well..
Again my advice, pick one and flash it.. if u feel like trying something else then try that too.. If somethIng goes wrong restore your backvup.. again.. the beauty of xda.

I get your point but the beauty of XDA is also in the ability to solicit opinions to make an informed decision. I don't think my question was that out of line. It's not as open ended as simply asking what the "best" ROM is.

AOSP Rom Issues

So I'm really wanting to flash an AOSP ROM onto my Note II, but so far I've flashed JellyBeer and Paranoid and both had issues with the sensors, gyroscope, and Bluetooth. As far as what I've read and seen all over the forums is that all AOSP ROMS have these issues. The sensors can be fixed by doing the Perseus kernel fix, but the Bluetooth doesn't get fixed (and I really don't like the steps to flash the Perseus kernel for an AOSP ROM).
Anyone know of any other AOSP ROM that do not currently have these issues, or is this something we'll all have to wait and see what comes about?
Thanks to all the Devs for their hard work, and I'm looking forward to using a fully working AOSP ROM on this phone (especially if that ROM is JellyBeer!).

No other AOSP ROM will avoid these issues because all of them use madmack's kernel, which is likely the root of these problems. Furthermore, he's stopped any further work on the CM10 version, and focused on getting CM10.1 working, so unless someone else picks it up it will stay in it's current state.
He's done a great job so far considering how little he has to work with, and it seems to be a minority of users that have these problems (myself being one of them), so I defintely agree that focusing on CM10.1 is the way to go. I'll just stick to the TW-based ROMs until then.
Looks like they just got a decompile of the proprietary Samsung stuff to hopefully help resolve the audio issues in CM10.1, so with a little luck and a lot of hard work, we can all switch over to CM10.1 and leave these issues in CM10.
EDIT: And because these issues don't effect everyone, you should just try flashing an AOSP ROM to see if it effects your device. Backup your current configuration and you can always restore it or flash back to stock and go with a TW-based ROM if you have issues. It's not a big deal. The whole process might take 10-20 minutes, if you don't bother restoring your app settings while you experiment.

I've actually flashed JellyBeer, JellyBam, and Paranoid, and all had issues. One other thing I noticed is that the AT&T versions seem to be the ones with the issues, as many on Rogers seem to be ok...
I'll get you the link to the fix hold on

Thank you but I am aware of this fix, I even have commented on that thread. It does fix the sensors but not the Bluetooth issue. I also don't like the "dirty" way of flashing the ROMs over the kernel.

I am running Cleanrom 3.5 with no current issues on top of note2core OC kernel. Super fast, great battery life! Scott has released Cleanrom 4.0.5 but it comes with a 23 toggle mod applied. When I loaded that mod over 3.0 it created most of the issues you speak of. I an holding out on 4.0.5 until they ensure the toggles dont break anything

I believe he wants an AOSP rom not a touchwiz based rom.
