Whats difference between Tuna and Maguro device? - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Please suggest Whats difference between Tuna and Maguro device?
Also are all roms compatible with these device types for e. G. Can i install rom made for tuna on maguro?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk

Tuna is the "code name" if you will for the Galaxy Nexus, there is 2 variants of the Galaxy Nexus (Tuna) currently available. Maguro is the GSM version of the device, Toro is the CDMA version of the device.
Tuna (Maguro) = GSM
Tuna (Toro) = CDMA (LTE)
Usually you can install on both, unless specified. There will be 2 versions, the antennas are different.

Thank you for the information!

Cdma Roms and stuff

I have a CDMA galaxy nexus and so far their aren't many roms out for it yet which is understandable since it was released way after the GSM version. In Rom Manager, are some of the downloadable roms there for both the GSM and cdma, or just cdma? Does Rom Manager pick out the roms suitable for just my cdma? I just want to make sure I don't flash a GSM rom lol.

Its my understanding that it chooses for you. I successfully used rom manager to install bugless beast 403 cdma verizon
The Verizon cdma build is called Toro, I'm not familiar with others

Thanks, I thought it was toro but found no data on it.

[Q] Galaxy Nexus on Gummy 1.2

Anyone know where I can find the link to the Galaxy Nexus version of Gummy 1.2.0?
Also a link to an install guide would be great.
You do realize the galaxy nexus version is there right? What version do you have? GSM or CDMA. If CDMA Verizon or Sprint? If GSM Maguro is the build you want. If Verizon Toro if Sprint Toroplus.

Oh, I had no idea. Thanks!
Where do they list these code names?

No I mean where do they list what the code names mean. e.g. Maguro = Galaxy Nexus GSM...

Have never seen a list per say, but for the GN:
GSM = Maguro (model # = I9250 which I'll "guess" you have given Canada+Rogers)
Verizon = Toro
Sprint = Toro Plus
Ok cool.
So I've gathered that I should use the Goo Manager app in the Play Store to do this.
I can download Gummy 1.2.0, and the gapps. I'm assuming I want "gapps-ics-20120429-signed.zip"..?
What about the latest radio? Where can I find that?
Here's where you can find all the radio's for i9250 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1405345.
I'd suggest flashing through fastboot.
I found the thread for my baseband (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1430107)
But it says that it's for 4.0.3. Does that matter?

What is the source for the toroplus

Kernels for jelly bean here on xda?
GSM are lucky they have kernel source for jb
AFAIK, the kernels for all the galaxy nexus variants are all the same, but the ramdisk *could* vary. It's the ROM side that is variant specific.

So the official OTA version for Toro plus kernel would be the same as gsm/toro etc?
Yep, pretty much. And any differences would be ironed out by the kernel devs here. And officially, the "name" for all the gnexus devices is tuna, and the kernel for them is "named" tuna

Toroplus is a community name?

There IS an unofficial port of Dirty Unicorns to toro (in fact - to tuna; that is, the entire family of which toro is a member (maguro, toro, and toroplus - for AT&T Mobility and T-Mobile, Verizon Wireless, and Sprint, respectively); it's in Marshmallow and Nougat "flavors" only, though.
The builder is Yuuji Hatayama (it sounds Japanese for a reason), and I currently rotate among three of his builds on my toro GNex (former VZW now on Tracfone). His own GNex is maguro; however, I haven't spotted any maguro-isms on my toro.

[Q] Which Nexus version should I use?

I'm running a Galaxy Nexus i9250 on a Canadian carrier using HSPA+. The original ROM was a YAKJU build. I'm trying to figure out which ROM I should be installing, but they're labelled "Verizon" and "Sprint", which doesn't do me much good, since I don't know which of those builds would be appropriate for my device. Can anyone clarify that for me?

If you have a 9250, it's a maguro. Verizon and Sprint are both CDMA devices. Therefore you have just a Galaxy nexus GSM (maguro)
