[Q] HDMI Out w/ Standard BT Stack - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

So, sorry if this has been answered before, I've looked quite a bit and haven't been able to find a definitive answer. I'm running Juggernaut 4.1 which doesn't seem to work with TV-Out via MHL adapter. I installed Juggernaut so I could pair PS3 controllers to the phone for emulation. My question is, if I revert to stock ROM but root it, will I be able to run the standard BT stack to pair PS3 controllers while maintaining TV-Out capabilities? Or am I stuck waiting for ICS? Thanks so much to anyone who can provide an easy answer for me, I've honestly spent a lot of time looking for this and still can't figure it out.

I'm using same ROM, HDMI works for me.

Oh Damn, maybe it's because I didn't clear my cache when I updated the ROM? I used the TV-Out with my GF's stock ROM and nothing with mine for some reason.

The Sixaxis app works on the stock rom, but you have to be rooted. I made a video showing it off the first day the dev updated it for our phones http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1392898
Basically he worked around our non-AOSP bluetooth stack so it works. No need to use MIUI or CM7.

How they hell do you use that mhl adapter? I have one i got for free, and plugged the tv hdmi cord into it but nothing ever inputs onto the tv no matter what i run/do. Am i missing something major here?

Did you plug power into the adapter? It is required.

[Q][req?] Video Out

Would it be possible to push a screen cast (from boot to shutdown) to a computer at around 30 fps or above? This would come in handy for demos and how to vids for the epic and im sure qbking could think of a few ways to use this
You can't lie, its a cool concept and im sure it would take a lot of hard work and im sure it would have something to do with the kernel and recovery.....
Can it be done?
Many have tried, no one has pulled it off yet. Been a long time request thast is yet to be fulfilled
Currently DLNA is the only way, AFAIK, to get video out on an Epic
It would in effect make my epic my home media center if I could do this with netflix cause I have my compy on my 50 inch WEGA

Connectivity demo video [UDPATE: new vid, NOVA 3+PS3 controller+HDTV+"how to" guide]
Basically rather large medley showing many of the connection options available for the Galaxy S3, make sure to use the nav links in the video description to get around the vid:
Note: Since the video I also got NOVA 3 on my S3 and playing it via MHL on my HDTV with a PS3 controller over bluetooth (every bit as freaking sweet as it sounds). Anyone want a guide?
[UPDATE] Demo and guide for playing NOVA 3 wirelessly via a PS3 controller, much better experience (especially on an HDTV and with a home theatre system connected!). Until you've made videos where you control the game by viewing it through the viewfinder in your camera please refrain from being too critical about how badly I suck
Ya sure a guide would b much appreciated

Yep, it's the one that is specific to the S3 (11 pin set-up, rather than 5 like the older ones - I have two of those so I'm annoyed about the change too).

Do you know if you can use a 2.4ghz wireless air fly mouse/keyboard combo while the phone is hooked up to HDTV through mhl? If so, what would I need besides the mhl adapter? USB hub?

Just tried an unpowered 4 port USB hub with a 32gb flash drive connected and the phone crashed and rebooted.
Excellent video mate, is the S3 your main phone these days? I'm sure I remember you doing a similar review on the Galaxy Note, that's what I have although I did get an S3 for the missus and it is tempting, but I'm holding out for the Note 2.
By the way, can you point me in the direction of a relatively cheap bluetooth keyboard and mouse that will work with my Note, but a set that doesn't come with a usb dongle since I want to use the micro usb port on the phone to connect it via MHL to my TV. If that makes sense.

Yep, S3 is my daily (still love my Note though). Will get the Note 2 for sure and totally respect holding out for it.
Understand what you're saying about the keyboard thing and MHL, will take a look and find some suitable ones for you.
Wow, now that is impressive. I can't believe how much you can do with the S3, simply amazing. The S3 kicks all other "smart" phones back to the dark ages . Another vote for a numptys guide please, first time smart/droid phone user here. Or I will be if my phone ever turns up

Awesome. $10 sure beats $40 for the official adapter. Just need some compatibility confirmation reviews before pulling the trigger.
Is there anyone out there with a USB DAC who can verify the S3 can actually output digital audio via USB?
This is a long time wish for audiophiles, who will all be getting an S3 if this functionality works.

Video output options

As most people have probably already heard, the "MHL" port on the SGS3 isn't compatible with existing MHL accessories or displays (so it isn't really an MHL port then is it). See this site for more on that.
Sammie has released some over-priced accessories for it, but buying those would reward and re-inforce this move (the only nasty thing the've done on an otherwise brilliant phone) and they would probably become landfill when you get your next phone. Besides, Sammie recently indicated that this port can do more, so I guess that means they will release a second round of video accessories for this phone, making the first round landfill even before you move on to your next phone.
So, if someone really needs video output for their SGS3, what are their options?
Samsung makes a wireless (Wi-Fi) streaming video dongle for the GSIII, but this too appears to be proprietary and possibly just for the GS3. It looks like there are standards coming for wireless streaming, but they aren't here yet (e.g. Miracast).
Are there other wireless video streaming devices that work with the SGS3?
Even better, though, has any other company created accessories that are compatible with the fake MHL port on the SGS3? The best would be something that worked with the SGS3 and with standards compliant MHL devices and displays (of which there are now > 100), but I don't know if that is possible.
Actually, for some users, something a bit different might work...
DLNA for example, which allows you to play content from your phone on any smart TV. It's not the same as 'video out' for your phone, but I think some poeple are just looking for a way to get media from their phone to their display. And DLNA is very widely supported standard now.
Also, these are low cost Android 4 devices in the form of an HDMI dongle - you plug them directly into your TV:
Infinitec Pocket TV
The Kogan Smart TV HDMI dongle
:meh: For $10 you can get the adapter from Samsung to use the old MHL adapters. The new adapter allows USB OTG, if I understand correctly, that is added functionality over what the old MHL offered. I don't think they changed just to make users buy new MHL adapters.

First problem is that would mean you need an adapter for an adapter, which is a cumbersome solution.
More importantly, I believe that what you are saying is not true: I have reviewed the info from Samsung so far and it appears to me that the new adapter adapter does not support any of the additional capabilities (USB org) that Samsung has recently suggested that the 11pin port is capable of.
That means that there will be new accessories soon to enable that capability, so you will have 3 accessories for that one port, just to do one thing.
No cheap and trustworthy ebay alternatives yet??

Get a HDMI android tv dongle.
Then install mirrorOp sender/receiver for screen mirroring.
Works fine enough but frame rate may not be fast enough for gaming mirroring.

It should be noted that this solution requires that your Android be rooted. Here's the product page for the Android version of mirrorOp.

Apparently that is an implementation of the Wi-Fi alliances Miracast standard, which sounds great, but for now (i.e. until Android ships with it) it requires root access.
I have bought a few products and have been successful at hooking my note 2 up to a tv with excellent results. I want to also hook up usb hub. I have had SO much bad luck even trying to find out a solution. It seems something is wrong here... oh I see now since I read all of galaxymhl.com. If there was any chance of me paying for the Samsung dock its NOT going to happen now. Dont ever mess with a standard!
I am ready to get out my solder gun and wire it myself...
I own this..

Also just bought this
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008FRJORK/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
The USB does not work with the phone! So sending it back today.
I need HDMI as well as DATA simultaneously. If I missed something I am sorry. It just seems people and products are not clear about this.
If there is a site on rewiring these cables it would be awesome. Does anyone have a solution???

PS/2 to USB adapter for keyboard question

Has anyone had success using one of these adapters (the cheap passive ones) for utilizing a PS/2 keyboard on the Kindle, of course going into a powered USB hub? I'd like to hopefully find a cheap solution because I currently do not own a USB keyboard, only an old PS/2 style. I figured I would ask first before I shelled out a much needed $1 for the adapter. I've tried searching on Google (a half fast search I'll admit) but learned I might need an active adapter for this purpose. Maybe someone can help me out with this question.

[Q] Bought a Galaxy S4 Mini - few questions

It won't arrive for a little bit (1saleaday is slow to ship), so I figure I'll ask some questions in the meantime.
Does it support MHL 2.0? I've seen conflicting info, in that some places don't even mention MHL support. And if it's not 2.0, does it require that specific 11-pin Samsung adapter? Selling my HTC One and not sure if I should just include my current 5-pin adapter with it.
Does it work with the Smart Dock like the regular S4 and whatnot? Assuming it works with MHL 2.0, I don't see why it wouldn't work with the Smart Dock.
What kind of sound hardware does it have? I don't suppose its Wolfson...
Does it support exFAT for microSD? I've seen confirmation that it supports 64GB cards at least.
And any idea if it'll have a wireless charging back like for the S4? Don't know if it even supports wireless charging.
I've tried mhl 1.0 and 2.0. Both don't work. Also tried USB OTG also doesn't work.
I have a 64gb micro sd but I can't remember how it's formatted. But definitely works.

Well crap, I was banking on at least regular MHL - are you sure its not the cable you're using (as in, it requires the Samsung specific 11-pin cable)? If not, then I guess GSMarena is wrong (wouldn't be the first time).
I've tried both a cheap one from ebay and the samsung geniune one which works with my normal Galaxy S4 without using the power cable......both cable works on my normal GS4 but it doesn't work on my MIni GS4....i've also tried with or without the power cable attached and still doesn't work.

only the samsung hdmi adapter works with the GS4 mini due to a specific protocol since it is not HML enabled. I know... it sucks, but it has other ways to connect to a TV
