I rooted back in January with unrevoked and did not have any problems. About 2 months ago started have problems with my Evo so I flashed it back to stock updated everything and rooted it again with Revolutionary but since then i do not seem to have Full root. Any suggestions or thoughts. Thanks for any help given.
You have full root if you have superuser. Your nand unlocked if you have s-off

your are right supersonic evt2 ship s-off. What do I need to do?
If you just rooted your evo with revolutionary you should have flashed a superuser.zip and that would have gave you root. If you flash a custom rom you'll get root also

You have s-off, so just install a recovery if you don't have one, and install superuser from the market.
What recovery to you recommend? I also have another question should I wipe my SD card from the first time I rooted with envoked to start clean?

Now for some reason no matter what i do I cannot get back into fastboot. I hold down "Volume Down + Power" at same time and nothing. If I let go just boots normally.
Scratch that. Removed battery and it worked like a charm. Flashed Amom Ra 3.07 and it said installation aborted. Any suggestions?

I recommend amon ra as well, and in the rom, under development, you need to uncheck the fastboot option, so you can get to the bootloader.

Ok now I am really confused. I installed Amon Ra recovery seemed to install fine. Went to titanium backup and this is what i get: Sorry, I could not acquite root privileges. This application will *not* work! Please verify that your ROM is rooted and includes BusyBox, and try again. I have not installed a custom rom because i cannot get Rom Manager to work properly. Any suggestions would be greatly appreicated.
Thanks
I have search this entire forum and at last i find the same problem I have. But there is no answer to the problem any suggestions?

If you flashed Superuser, make sure it is up to date in the Market. Go into the settings of Superuser and tap the binary to check for updates. Reboot the phone.
Then go to the Market and download Busybox by Stericson. Open the app and install the latest one. Then reboot and go back to Titanium Backup.

If you're just going to flash a rom anyway, scratch what you're doing and just flash it through recovery..Rom Manager won't work with Amon Ra anyway, plus it's more trouble that it's worth.
If you're trying to root to use Titanium Backup, open up Superuser and make sure root access is enabled. Some versions of superuser require that you turn on root privileges.

This is a guide on how to get ClockWorkMod onto your stock 4.0.2 and 4.0.3 LTE Galaxy Nexus through Rom Manager
If your having problems booting into Recovery from ROM Manager go to bottom.
Screen turning off while in Recovery? Read herehttp://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20467448&postcount=206
Go to market, search "Clockworkmod"

Install Rom Manager*
Open up Rom Manager and select "Flash ClockworkMod Recovery"
A pop-up will come up called "Confirm Phone Model," of course choose "Google Galaxy Nexus CDMA"
Then you should hopefully get this (if not scroll down to bottom)
Now let it install etc, then with a File Manager** with SU access, Go to system, click "Mount R/W"(if using Root Explorer) and then scroll down until you see "recovery-from-boot.p" and rename it to "recovery-from-boot.p.bak"
Close out off your File Manager and go to Rom Manager and select "Reboot into Recovery"
There you go
You should be able to boot into CWM
* Free version works
**I used Root Explorer
If you got
That means either A) your not rooted or B) you didn't click 'Allow' when ROM Manager requested root privileges.
If your not rooted, then root. If you are rooted, then go to SuperUser and clear the permissions for ROM Manager
PROBLEMS BOOTING INTO RECOVERY FROM ROM MANAGER
To fix your problem just hit flash clockwork recovery again from Rom manager. Then just boot into the bootloader by turning off your phone and holding vol up+down and power button...then hit the vol down button once or twice till you see recovery mode and hit the power button. Iv noticed that sometimes reboot into recovery from rom manager doesnt seem to work correctly. But if your getting the android on his back...that just means you still have stock recovery and that file is overwriting clockwork still.
O and you wont have to do anything once you hit reboot recovery...or do it from the bootloader. clockwork will immediately pop up its not like stock recovery at all.

Great tutorial, this is how I did it and it works like a charm.
Nice write up with pics.
I'm with you all the way until it comes to locating the recovery-from-boot.p file. Checked with Root Explorer as well as Astro. Each boot removes Clockwork and requires a new flash.
Not a super big deal, but I think a lot of people could profit if we could figure out what's going on here.

I'll make this short and sweet.
i've rooted many times before, never run into anything like this.
I rooted my SGS2 E4GT with odin. used this forum.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1265429
after root copied rom to sd and rebooted into recovery and it didn't reboot into clockwork recovery and it said E:failed to mount /sdcard (Unknown error: 0)
rebooted and wifi doesn't work now. used rom manager to try and install clockwork recovery but still wouldn't boot into clockwork on reboot.
unrooted using this
http://epic4gtouchroot.com/epic-4g-touch-unroot/how-to-unroot-epic-4g-touch/
then rerooted using this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1342728
now wifi still doesn't work, still won't boot into recovery using clockwork
i just want to get it back to stock E4GT unrooted and working but now when i try to adb remove it gives me read only.
i'm so frustrated and just want it to work, rooted or not.
so plz any advice helps
well first off I have never used adb. second don't use that one click crap. these videos should be all you need. forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1268548&highlight=zedomax also do not use rom manager to put in cwm. it doesn't work. let us know if you need anymore help man.

also I am assuming you are still on the eg30. well tryvthis stock repacked kernel from chris41g. chris41g.devphone.org/index.php?dir=EpicTouch%2FStock+Repack%2FEG30%2FCWM5%2F use the. tar.md5 file in odin in the section pda. do NOT put it anywhere else. also make sure the only box checked is reboot. wait for odin to be done. after your phone reboots you can power down. hold power and volume up until you get into cwm.
You can also take the stock .tar that's floating around in the development section and flash it using mobile odin.
Thanks guys ill troubleshoot today and see if I can get ot working. I usually dont use the one click roots im used to rooting manually but I thought id try somethin different. Didnt work out ofcourse. I can successfully flash back to stock ROM using odin its just deleting the root thats the problem.

I don't understand this statement. If you can successfully flash back to stock ROM doesn't that delete the root (and all your other changes) putting you back at stock? Perhaps you aren't being aggressive enough with your ODIN flash and you could use a package that flashed more components?
There are Odin tars that don't delete /data get one that does and you're fine leave it on sd forever just in case .....
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
Basically I followed the unroot tutorial. I can flash the tar it gives me through Odin but it doesnt delete superuser or fix the problems. It then tells me to use adb to remove su but I can't do to read only error
If anyone has a link for a correct tar to flash or a correct unroot tutorial let me know.
Sry guys I hate to be one of those annoying ppl posting for help but I spent all yesterday afternoon trying to figure this out

I think you are better off using the ODIN tar files here (they will put modem, kernel, and ROM back to stock and reset your data):
ODIN [EG30/EK02/EL13/EL26/EL29]
Multi-upload links are up and down recently but if you give me the version you need I can find a link for you.
Ok thanks so just flash all of those over with Odin through pda 1 by 1?
And version of what?

Just flash whichever version you want, not all of them.
The phone shipped with EG30.
EK02 is the first OTA update.
EL29 is probably going to be the 2nd OTA update.
The other ones are leaks that didn't become official updates.
I would start with EK02 and see how that works for you before doing anything else.
k im flashing EK02 now. so just flashing this with odin will remove root and superuser?

Yes. In your case, I would recommend backing up, then using the "Full" version that resets your user data. If you did the NoData version, that is fine too. Just backup and perform a ##786# reset from the dialer. You can get your MSL by typing "getprop ril.MSL" in a terminal window. It is case sensitive and Swype keyboard likes to capitalize "I" even though you told it not to.
Don't start restoring stuff until you use the stock system for a couple of hours and verify everything works.
ok cool it worked. thanks again man. im gonna let it chill stock for a while but everything is working fine for now. now once i get around to wanting to root it again, got any good forums i can use? i'm kinda fed up with odin at this point to be honest sijce this is the first time i've ever used it to root and it caused all this haha, so i would prefer to do it manually. so any good links would be appreciated.
Look at the Auto Root sticky in the development section.
ODIN itself isn't the issue (you'll be appreciative of ODIN if you have a bad install). The issue is what content you are giving to ODIN.
Alright I'll try but the auto root is what I used the second time to root and it didn't work

that would be the stock recovery you are on. you need a new kernel that has cwm installed on it. flash one of those such as rogue gunslinger through odin. remember to odin the. tar.

I can only choose in the recovery between:
- Reboot system now
- Apply SDCARD:Update.zip
- Wipe data/factory reset

And i wiped data and cant install anything
Turn off signature verification under "flash .zip from SD" or something like that in recovery.

I have posted this ROM for safetynet/fall-back purposes.
I've noticed fellas posting please help, I forgot/didn't make a backup.
This is for you. Worried and maybe even a little scared that your phone is now a beautiful paper weight.
This ROM is completely stock with added init.d support and root.
It is still odexed, and with stock kernel.( I'm still learning/attempting to build one with extra governors and over clocking abilities ).
Instructions below....
1. Unlock your Bootloader by following the instructions at htcdev
1a. If you've succesfully unlocked your Bootloader, that means you have your fastboot files on your PC and know in general how to use them.
2. Download an openrecovery of your choice. I personally use TeamWinRecoveryProject 2.2.0 without any issues at all. (See the attached File)
3. Place the recovery.img that you have chosen into your fastboot folder.
3a. Change the name of the .img to recovery.img (just easier that way when sending the flash command)
4. Now open a terminal while in the fastboot folder.
4a. On Windows- hold shift+right click the mouse then click open command terminal here.
4b. On Ubuntu- CTRL+ALT+T to open a terninal then cd fastboot.
5.fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
5a. ^^^^^ Type this into the terminal. ^^^^^
5b. You now have a custom/openrecovery.
6. After the recovery.img is flashed, reboot your Bootloader.
6a. fastboot reboot-bootloader
7. After booted back into bootloader, use your volume-down button to highlight Recovery.
Now press your Power button to select it.
7a. Now your are in Recovery!
8. Click Wipe, then Cashe, then Dalvick, then Factory Rest, then System.
8a. This will wipe all of your phone nice and clean for a fresh install.
9. Click Home, then Install, and find the ROM.zip, click it, then install. Let it finish installing the click Wipe Cashe/Dalvick.
10. Navigate back to the Home screen and click Reboot, then Bootloader
10a. I hope you have a copy of the ROM.zip on your PC.
11. Open the ROM.zip and copy/extract the boot.img from inside it and place it in your fastboot folder.
12. Open a terminal once again.
13.fastboot flash boot boot.img
13a. Let it finish.
14. fastboot reboot
15. Enjoy.
These instructions are for use with TWRP (TeamWinRecoveryProject) They may be different using CWMrecovery (ClockWorkMod).

Ok I found a difference in the updater-script, the update binaries are identical so that shouldn't be the issue. Problem I have is that I don't have a working computer to fix the updater-script. It won't be until June 26th that I can apply it. Sorry for the inconvenience.
P.S. are you flashing with TWRP?
Yes sir, TWRP. and no worries, it apparently just isn't your ROM. Angry HTC and jmz's stock ROM both give the same error. even after a full format of the SD. Rhythmic Rom 1.4 works though, and is what I was running. Was trying to return the device to somewhat stock tho as im either going to sell it or let my gf use it, so I was hoping for stable and to have the charge LED and icons working, hopefully.

If you downgrade TWRP to 2.3 you should be fine.

ah, I'm on 2.5, so I'll look into that...
did the downgrade to TWRP 2.3.0.0, still the only thing i can install is Rhythimc Rom, everything else fails to install... unless i just got some really crappy downloads, so i'm off to try to dl the roms again...
Actually, instead I swapped out recoveries for CWM. aaaand it worked.
Hello, I have tried every root on the internet for my samsung galaxy s3 spring android 4.3 and I have the cwm installed and working, and I can flash without the error that you cannot mount the sdcard. I have tried every root and it still says that my phone is not rooted, through root checker and supersu also says that it is not rooted. Please, help! I've used the instructions at www . epiccm . org/2012/06/cwm-recovery-on-all-sgs3-lte-variants.html
I am very frustrated with this, and am about to give up. Please help.
Thanks.

When i open supersu (i donwloaded it from the app store) it says:
"There is no SU binary installed and SuperSU cannot install it. This is a problem!"
Try flashing THIS in Recovery.

I can't find what you're talking about but I tried all of the superuser flashable zips (supersu, superuser, and MIUI. None of them worked. They said updating android when I booted, but it still doesn't show as root. It tells me no su is installed and then KNOX comes up telling me that it tried to access a secure area.
Please help
So it sounds like knox is what is killing your attempts. You need to disable it and then reinstall your super user of choice (I like supersu, but I'm sure you can find experts to tell you more about them....). Assuming you have a super user app there, but it is just being squashed, this may work for you...
Go into your explorer of choice (I use explorer es), go into /system/app and find superuser.apk. Select it and force it to install again. When it installs, it will open and tell you that knox is there and ask you if you want to try to disable it. Click ok or yes... I don't recall which, but just get that thing out of there. My guess is at this point, you'll need to actually repeat this process (I did) to get everything "happy"... (repeat the install - but the next time the knox question won't come up).

How do i disable knox. I've stopped all the processes and even (tried to) delete all the files pertaining to it. i dont have permission to do so. I tried terminal emulator and it doesnt let me do it.... i type su and it tells me i dont have permission. ive tried flashing zips that claim to disable knox and they dont work.

Try going into the Play Store, uninstalling SuperSU and then reinstalling from the Play Store. I think it is also possible to flash an older version of SuperSU and then let the Play Store automatically update it. Just spitballing here.

I would highly recommend switching to Philz Touch recovery, then starting over with flashing the most recent SuperSU zip. Once you boot back into system, open the SuperSU app, choose yes when it asks if you want to disable Knox, and then let it update the binaries for you via the TWRP/CWM option.
This is the repository thanks to @rwilco12, http://rwilco12.com/ in case if the above option doesn't work. Odin down to a rooted jb, then flash a recovery I use Philz Touch (cwm based) and it works flawless, then choose a ROM. Also able to restore cwm or twrp. Be sure to clean install ROMs and always nandroid.
Good luck. I also recommend using philz. Although this process can be frustrating at times, these members @xda are amazing and will get where you need to be. Again, good luck.

These guys are definitely leading you in the right path.
From stock on the latest update. I used CF Auto-Root for the Sprint S3 by chainfire in Odin.... uncheck everything.... then after it's flashed take out your battery and boot into recovery and flash the latest supersu zip file then reboot after it reboots open Supersu and it should ask you if you'd like it to disable Knox.
This is what I did it worked for me with no issues

What I do,
Download stock rooted deodexed ram from this site, also download knox app remover, also download wifi fix.
Load TWRP 2.6.3.0 Recovery. Flash that using odin.
Reboot to recovery (TWRP)
Having the stock ram on the SD card or the internal storage .. install it than before rebooting install knox app remover and wifi fix and boot..
Make sure than to update the supersu and all should be good.
I hope this helps.
