OTA update but phone still shows 4.0.1? (stock GSM) - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I finally got an upgrade yesterday. Went through the whole process but the phone still shows 4.0.1. What's the deal?
-S

It is possible it could be the volume bug fix, how big was the update and what building number is it?

Lots of people seem to be getting the volume bug fix pushed out recently so that's all it will be.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk

I see. Not sure how big or what it was called - just clicked install. Figured it was 4.0.2 or 4.0.3 but no change. Is there somewhere I can look it up?
-S

It was just the volume fix bug. The update was only 800kb.

Android is upgrading?

Hey,
Everytime I turn on my Nexus it reads Android is upgrading' - is this the normal procedure?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
yes it seems to be normal with Android 4.0
Yes I have this too. Seems strange.

Normal behavior, good Strange use of language from Google then.

Yes, it'll do that every time you restart the phone
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA App
Yes. This is normal. This is where Android's optimization occurs (now with handy "Optimizing <x> of <y>" count to let you know what's happening) instead of prolonging the boot video. If it doesn't need to do that it just skips straight to launching the launcher, I guess...
Noted from observation, not from source code
My Galaxy Nexus only started doing this after both selecting "Encrypt Phone" and replacing my recovery image with Clockwork Mod Recovery 5.5.
It should not be happening on every boot unless you are a chronic flasher.
Mine phone did that on 4.0.1. On 4.0.2 that is gone

I got the "Android is Upgrading" when I zip-aligned all of the apks on my phone for the first time in GummyNex. So far it's only done it once, maybe twice in the last few weeks.
i only notice this after a dalvik/cache wipe. Atleast thats the only time it does this running 4.0.3 on my sgs fascinate.
Mine does this on every reboot, but I'm still on 4.0.1 where, based on earlier posts, that sounds more normal...
Only displays for a couple of seconds and nothing bad seems to happen as a result!
Mine started doing this after installing Google Wallet with that first crazy workaround. I hated it and restored my nandroid backup then used the apk that came out later and haven't seen that screen since. It definitely isn't normal to have it happen every time, except maybe in 4.0.1 I guess...
I just got this on 4.0.3 after wiping cache. Does anyone know what is actually doing. Rebuilding the cache?

Bump. My VzW GNex is doing this every boot. This has got to be fixable. Has anyone actually determined what is happening here? VzW Galaxy Nexus w/stock Android 4.0.2, rooted.

Fix what? Nothing is broken. The phone is making new app caches. That's it. There is no problem and there is no fix because nothing is broken.
its normal with my htc hd2 and nexushd2 v1.1 by tytung? =/

Me three, I saw it on every bootup until I got 4.0.2, now I never see it.
However, my phone's uptime is currently at 7days 38 mins and not lagging or otherwise needing a reboot/battery pull as older versions of Android seemed to need every two or three days. Yay ICS!
"Android is upgrading" appears when the system is generating ODEX files (optimized DEX). This essentially uncompresses "classes.dex" from the APKs, verifies them, optimizes them for the host (byte order, class prunning, ...) and writes them out in the dalvik-cache directory.
Dexopt should be performed when installing applications by the package installer though and it does it upon boot only when there's no corresponding ODEX file already. It also does it upon system upgrade, because the dalvik version likely changed and ODEX files need to be redone for the new VM.
This is a poor choice of words. "Android is optimizing applications" would be less confusing.

It happened to me two times yesterday. (stock)
1- While in a phone call (poor reception)
2- While listening to Pandora.
Root and Upgrade to 4.0.3
Take a look at this ROM, you won't be disappointed:
rootzwiki.com/topic/11455-rom-android-open-kang-project-maguro-build-16a/
Same happened to me just a few moments ago, on stock 4.0.2
Depending on how annoying it gets I may have to flash a 4.0.3 rom.
(Who am I kidding.. I'll probably do that anyways within the week)

I'm getting them, too. 3X in the last 2 days. 5X since I bought the phone back before Christmas. I'm 4.0.2 stock.
Happened once when my alarm went off, once when I exited my RSS app, and the other times were when the phone was just sitting "idle".
Stock 4.0.3 OTA...where art thou?

[Q] Verizon GNex Jellybean problems.

First off, I'm running the latest update from Verizon. 4.1.1. I received the update OTA. I am rooted and bootloader is unlocked.
Second, my problem so far is that I have noticed after I updated to JB my phone will randomly lock up when the screen goes to sleep while accessing Google search via the search bar and browsing results. A battery pull is required to get the Gnex up and running along with a long boot up time similar to that when first updating.
Is anyone else experiencing this or any other problems? Anyone have any fixes?
I'm running the leak and I've never experienced this issue, Surprised it's happening on the OTA stock

Me too, especially since Verizon took so long to release it. Fortunately, those are my only problems.

OK its not just me. I am unlocked (by the way it unlocked on its own one morning on the way to work, weird.) No root though. And 10-20 times a day my phone will not turn on when I hit power button and then the boot up animation shows up. And takes forever as well. Its not just when I use Google search. Maybe I/we have an app not compatible with jelly bean or too many apps. Idk. But its frustrating because its always when I really need to use my phone. Do you guys have updated side loaded Google wallet app? Have you guys done a factory reset? Don't wanna reset if it won't fix the problem. Hope we get an update soon.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
I have not done a factory reset yet, but I will Saturday night since I'm off work Sunday and Monday and return results. I have no sideloaded apps other than flash player but removed it soon after the update despite no support for flash on JB.

Have you found an answer to this? My wife is having the same exact issue on her stock GS3 from T-mobile. Can't find much about this on the net. She's on her second phone with the same issue.

Data connection drops since updating to 4.1.2

Hi all,
Since flashing 4.1.2 (after a complete wipe) my data connection sometimes doesn't connect after disconnecting from wifi.
I see the "H" icon but the bars stay gray and the connection is down.
The only way to fix this once it happens is to reboot, which is quite annoying...
I've had this problem before on 4.0 but it eventually went away.
I tried both the default xxlf radio and uglh.
EDIT: I should mention I'm running stock and rooted.
Any ideas?
Thanks

I have the exact same problem.
Appeared with 4.0.4 , solved with 4.1, but broken again with 4.1.2
rebooting solves nothing, nor airplane mode.
I have to delete and reset my APN's
I'm not rooted
Me too...

If I turn on then off airplane mode, I get back carrier data.

Same here. Only way to fix it is through a reboot. Airplane mode trick doesn't work for me at all. Seems to happen much more often when I switch from H back to E when I'm done browsing on work breaks.
Same think for me, reboot to resolve.
I'm on slimbeam 2.8 and Trinity S63, but same problem on CNA ...
Nice to see I'm not the only one...
I'll open a bug report tonight (assuming there isn't one already)

Mine only seems to do it if I constantly go back and forth between HSPA and EDGE(like I stated before). Kinda sucks. lol. Wonder what happened that could've caused this.
Stock, Rooted, Unlocked bootloader
This happens to me almost every single time. I find that turning off LTE then turning it back on seems to work.
EDIT:
Also is it only me, or does JB take over 2 minutes to boot up? Long story short I used OTA Rootkeeper to keep root, I installed the update.zip in CWM and it installed. CWM didn't have to be reinstalled and my Bootloader stayed unlocked. When I installed the OTA update.zip though I didn't clear cache or do a wipe, I just installed it, could that be leading to my O.S. issues?
