I start this thread because i didn't find anywhere in Desire HD forum a analysis about Hboot upgrade.
I am currently have HBOOT-0.85.0024 Eng S-OFF and PVT SHIP S-OFF and i wondering:
1) Can I upgrade to HBOOT-2.00.0027 and still have Eng S-OFF and PVT SHIP S-OFF?
2) Will be affected in any way the ROM that i have already installed?
3) Which are the improvements that were added in the newer version (HBOOT-2.00.0027)?
4) How to make the upgrade without many headaches and without running the RUU?
I have attached the HBOOT that i extracted from the final RUU: RUU_Ace_Sense30_S_HTC_WWE_3.12.405.1_Radio_12.65.60.29_26.14.04.28_M_release_225512_signed.exe
Eng s off is gained from having a certain hboot. If you change it you will probably lose eng s off unless the hboot version you switch to is eng s off. I'm pretty sure though that the one you have is the only eng s off version, I could be wrong though there may be other hboots with eng s off. I do know the one you are thinking about upgrading to is not eng s off though.

1) if you upgrade your hboot you will loose eng s-off and just have Ship S-Off (aka radio s-off)
2 & 3) not really, but you will need to re-format your cache partition in recovery (to either ext3 or ext4.. whichever your rom is using) as the cache size has been increased by 100mb for use with sense 3. So bonus if you're already running a sense 3 or 3.5 rom.
4) Take the rom.zip from the ruu, use winrar to extract it into a folder. delete the img's and the spash.nb0's (if you want to flash the newest radio, dont delete radio.img). Once you've removed the useless junk, and just have the text, the hboot, and optionally the radio, select them all, right click and 'add to archive' (should have this option if you have winrar installed). name it PD98IMG, and make it a zip, not a rar. Move it to your sd card. power off with fastboot disabled, and then vol- and power to get into the bootloader. when it asks, volume up to commence the update.
Again, dont forget to go into recovery after to reformat your cache partition, as this will leave it raw and unuseable until its formatted.

Howdy Guys
A few days ago a mate of mine employed me to help him root his new toy. After doing mine multiple times (for various reasons) it was supposed to a piece of cake.
My method (I may have missed a point or two but you get the main idea):
1. Unrevoked
2. Install Titanium Backup, full backup
3. Copy entire SD contents
4. Install Rom Manager / Partition SD Card
5. Copy rom over to SD Card and install
6. Upgrade radio
7. From rom restore stuffs and go nuts
(optional but wanted to do)
8. S-OFF via bootable USB stick
Anyway turns out almost every step of the way was hampered because of new hardware. Here's the HBoot screen details:

For anyone else that has a desire with these specs please save yourself a lot of time and "oh ****" moments and know the following:
- Clockwork recovery will not work, you need to flash ArmonRa via the SDK with fastboot.exe OR via Unrevoked, before plugging in your phone go File > Choose alternate recovery and link it to AmonRa which you downloaded.
- Rom manager will not work (as it relies on ClockworkRecovery)
- SD Card partitioning and Upgrading to EXT3 needs to be done in AmonRa Recovery.
- Current S-OFF methods will not work and will send black lines across your HTC Boot splash screen. S-OFF tool reports failure at step 3. Ripping the battery and then restoring via recovery is the only fix.
Cheers.
I have a pvt4 and use clockwork

Sounds bad...But it should not take much time till there is a working solution for this
i have that type of desire.
and i have encounter no problem on rooting unrevoked /s-off with alphaville 1.5
i have used various roms (auraXsense and hd roms Rcmix, ownhere dhd)
used amonra and clockmodwork....at least 30 times
i have used 3,4 radio versions and upgraded to the latest 5.11.05.27
everything works and stable with richard v5f kernel and rcmix 14 + set cpu....
and they are working.
it is exactly your specification
except that now mine is S-off.
spec seems the same except
Bravo Pvt3 ship S-off but maybe is from the s-off procedure
Aug 102010 17:52:18
microp 051d
really i do not know if it was before pvt4 or what pvt3/4 means...
anyway i want to know considering maybe i will encounter future desire and maybe you are right... and it is possible that they are not working.
you cold try a Ruu update and try again the all process maybe something went wrong somewhere
You not seen the rather LARGE thread in General about this??
I have the same specs on my Desire and the latest clockwork(2.5.1.2) works. I'm not S-Off.
I flashed 6-7 roms with no problems.
I didn't use RomManager,so I don't know, but partitioned the sd card from recovery, under advanced options with no problems.
Only happens on some PVT4 devices (two different types), and there is already a thread about this.
My PVT4 has clockwork, S-OFF, root, custom splash1, etc.

Yea there is definitely a new model i have the same problems. Clockwork Recovery dont work only Amon Ra and Alpharev dont work either. Stops at step 3 everytime saying:
"Could not push the initial files during step 1. this is most likely a permissions error on your data partition.
We have tried our best to circumvent this, but most likely your ROM is either not rooted properly, causing failure.
Your best option is to backup everything, and flash a custom ROM that is properly rooted and has ADB root.
Remember: your HBOOT is NOT S-OFF, and it is not bricked."
I am using HTC desire, i had RC mix S v1.5 custom rom running on it.
the problem i face is i dont have enough internal storage to install apps or upload facebook picture.
Here i list out my HBOOT
BRAVO PVT1 SHIP S-ON
HBOOT - 0.00.0000
MICROP - 031d
TOUCH PANEL - SYNT0101
RADIO - 5.09.05.30.2
Can anyone help me to gain more internal storage ?
How to i change to Cm-7 HBOOT ??
You need:
a) S-Off -> alpharev.nl
b) flash a new hboot with fastboot
have a look at the alpharev page; it's quite easy to do
Other possibility for you:
try to move apps (and probably cache) to sd-ext

Plus, once s-off, you can delete any rom apps that you don't use, freeing up space!
I did s-off before...i think i mix up, can provide me tutorial for this ?
I download the hboot utility and burn into cd boot up with computer, but the process stuck...i wonder if there any problem or wrong hboot ?
I running a stable rcmix s v1.5 rom.

To root use Revolutionary. It will give s-off and then you will be able to flash a rooting tool. I'm a noob too and have used it very recently to s-off and root my Desire without any problem... You will find useful information in the forum for that...
Hope this helps...
Edit: I tryed using unrEVOked 3 also and got the same error...

For GB use Revolutionary. Unrevoked worked well on Froyo.
Thanks guys I managed to root and install a recovery file/rom.. heres how i did it
On the Revolutionary page read everything and download the following:
a) Revolutionary zip - save to PC. They will ask for info (currently) on your phone to get a beta key.
b) Root file - place this on your SD card. I used Superuser-3.0.7-efghi-signed.zip
Now you're ready to go.
S-OFF PROCESS
Run Revolutionary (unzip and run) and follow prompts. Say no to installing their recovery.
Congratulations, you should be S-OFF now. You can check by booting to Hboot and seeing if you have a nice pink "Revolutionary" label above your HBoot info.
ADDING CUSTOM RECOVERY
it's time to install your recovery file. i used (recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.0-bravo.img)
a) Boot into fastboot mode (from off, volume-up and power or volume-down and power then cycle to fastboot option)
b) Connect phone to PC through USB. You should see "FASTBOOT USB" on your phones screen.
c) Open CMD (Start > Run > type "cmd" and press enter)
d) Type "fastboot flash recovery c:\your recovery file name" where c:\your recovery file name is the exact location and name of the recovery file you downloaded.
You should now have a S-OFF phone with a custom recovery
ROOTING PROCESS
Now for rooting:
a) Boot into Hboot (from off, hold vol-down and power) and choose "Recovery" from the menu.
b) Choose "flash zip from SD card" or similar from Recovery menu (use trackpad to navigate)
c) Choose the Root file you downloaded to your SD card from the Revolutionary website.
d) Wait till it says it's done, then choose to reboot.
Congratulations, you're S-OFF and Rooted!
Whats the best and most stable custom rom to use please?
Also I backed my phone using the recovery.. it stated that I have no sd-ext..is that bad? Do I need to change that?
Thanks again for your help
my phone now has the following:
bravo pvt1 ship s-off
hboot-6.93.1002
microp-031d
touch panel-synw0101
radio-5.17.05.23

Thanks again for your help
You would need an ext partition for many roms, to get a lot more internal memory. Check the partitioning guide in my sig.
A good rom to start out with is MildWild Redux. I've been using it since it was released. No problems.

4ext is a better recovery than ClockWorkMod.
thanks all for your help.. I have managed to root and install MildWild 9.5 on my phone and so far it seems to be working fine
Hey!
Since hours I'm trying to change the language at my wildfire s.
I got the phone and only Englisch, Russia etc are integrated but no German.
So I started trying to flash the phone. At the beginning I started with normal RUU file (RUU_Marvel_S_HTC_Europe_2.26.401.3_Radio_47.23e.35.3038H_7.57.39.10M_release_261695_signed.exe), then I tried it via SD Card, via Goldcard and so on. But nothing is working.
If I flash it via SD Card (it doesn't matter if it is a goldcard or not) I get the error:
Main Version is older
Update fail!
Now I unlocked the bootloader and tried to S-Off the phone. But I can't find any tool or guide how to do that. I tried HTC super User Tool v3 and the unlock code.bin I got from HTC but it isn't working.
I also tried this guide. But without an result.
Now I found this thread, but I don't know what I have to do with the downloaded zip file.
I just want to install another langugae Not less and no more
Some facts of the wildfire:
***UNLOCKED***

Since you have unlocked it.....try using a custom rom(based on sense) with EU firmware
Hi,
I had 2.50 on my Desire HD which I found out can't be rooted to flash a modern rom. Now I followed a guide to downgrade it (temproot, put PD98IMG.zip into the sd card and install it via bootloader). After it restarted I had a chinese version apparently and was asked to put in a PIN. But there isn't even a sim-card in there..
What can I do next?
A few more informations:
It's not a PIN, but I can't do anything but contact emergency numbers. I can't connect the phone to usb, I can't connect with adb or do anything else.
I can get into fastboot by taking out the memory card, otherwise it would try to install the wrong pd89img.zip continouesly.
Right now I have only following informations:
Ace PVT SHIP S-ON RL
HBOOT-0.85.0024
MICROP-0438
RADIO-26.09.04.11_M2
eMMC-boot
Apr 12 2011,00:55:45
What are my options?
You can edit the android_info.txt file in the zip file with supercid numbers and install it. or you can simply add more CIDs to install. ( Like the Cid of your phone )
but 1st you need to upgrade your HBOOT to make modifications. 2.00.029 thats the HBOOT v that you need to install.

Sorry, but I didn't understand every word..
