Hello People,
Any one know if there is an iTunes for WM yet if so WHERE
Nope. I don't think that will happen, ever.
There are other WM based audio managers, though. And there are a lot of PC based media center servers with a web interface, you can use them remotely from WM.
You might be interested in doubleTwist.
It claims to sync even your purchased songs to a lot of devices.
doubletwist
Interesting... Apple just had another update to itunes. anyone having some problems with doubletwist?
Mediamonkey is a great tool with a lot of features. one of the best: it's free (there's also a gold version which isn't free).
it will also recognize your WM-Based phone and you can easily sync songs.
If you're searching for an "iTunes" look-alike player on WM, search the forum for "Mortplayer" (with iMort skin), "S2P", "Melody" or "Lumen"
Cheers
Lumen is still alpha and doesn't play any music yet.
Hello people!
Are there any news on iTunes for WM-based PPC?
Missing the point...
I believe some of the repliers above are missing the point of the question. The real point behind this question is not whether there is a music organizer/sync app but if there is an app for downloading music straight to your phone just like iTunes does. Obviously since the user uses iTunes on his or her computer an iTunes app would be a great solution but ANY program that you could purchase and download music from would be absolutely great. In my opinion that is the one and only thing that still makes me want an iPhone even with all the love I have for my TP2.
So, if anyone knows of a decent app for purchasing and downloading music for a WM phone(similar to iTunes) that would be a great thing to suggest here.
Hey,
Looking for a music app to manage my music with that'll sync with my Desire.
I dual boot windows and ubuntu, so it doesn't matter which platform the software is for.
I know Windows media player will do it - but I don't like using it.
Really like itunes - but the current itunes software sync hacks are still pretty buggy - so am looking for an alternate app
Any recommendations would be great.
Cheers!

The best for me, Media Monkey !
I'm liking double twist... syncs well with the desire, general playback is quite good and it has access to all my favourite podcasts
mediamonkey syncing works but isn't too brilliant with this phone... and it can't find my podcasts :S
Winamp next
You say that the current itunes sync hacks are buggy but I use a program called Itunes Agent that works great for me. To quote from their website:
"ITunes Agent is a tiny application which rests in your system tray, constantly looking for devices being connected to your system. If a device it recognizes is connected it enables you to manage it via a playlist in iTunes...When you are done modifying the list of tracks for your player you can synchronize it with two small mouse-clicks!"
I bought an HTC HD7 on launch. I also owned an HTC Desire (unlocked and unbranded which I've now given to Mum).
O2 has a 14 day return period. Anyway I decided I really like the Phone. Many people bang on about what Windows Phone doesn't yet have, instead of what it does. I could mention sublime push email, Office, Xbox Live, beautiful apps, very smooth, fast and accurate scrolling, tapping and pinch to zoom, tellme, the best osk ever on a mobile etc.
But for me as a big music fan who always watches video on my device the killer feature is Zune. The Zune sub is £8/month but you get access to millions of DRM's songs and 10 MPs to download or stream. The Zune software on the Phone is awesome and better than the iPod player on the iPhone is which was the gold standard.
But for me the stand out is the Zune PC software. It is so fast, beautiful and works really well. As a Jukebox it blows iTunes (the weak link for PC + iPhone customers) out of the water. I love the Zune client. Things like out of the box wireless sync of your media is science fiction to our Android and iPhone friends.
Suggestions for Microsoft:
1. Please support the avi container.
2. Please support the divx/xvid codec.
3. Please allow the saving of MP3s directly from IE.
4. Please add a podcast section to the Zune platform in the UK like the US.
5. Please expand the film collection and add a zunepass subscription option for films for say £10/month.
Even without certain functions that will arrive in 2011, Windows Phone is enough to make me forget the touchscreen fiasco that was Windows Mobile 6.x.
100% agree. I have a Zune HD and love the overall Zune style and interface + the Zune Pass is an awesome deal that makes you discover new music.
Still have to wait here in the states for Sprint and the HTC 7 Pro...
The zune HD interface is actually nicer. Now that you have access to zune proper, if you need a seperate media player you should totes get one.

That is what I am waiting for, I am not leaving Sprint to go to ATT.
I have to agree.
- Push email is absolutely fantastic,
- Internet Explorer and Pinch to Zoom really good
- Zune is a very nice experience, even if sometimes confusing (it synchronizes my new mp3s but not always delete the ones I deleted from the root folder).
I also agree that avi container as well as support for the divx/xvid codec notably must be implemented by MS.
I agree with this Zune is so awesome. Back when I had a phone and an iPod I always wanted a Zune but it was too much of a hassle to import (bare in mind I was about 16 back then).
The interface is Amazing, coming from android, I just love the heavily graphical UI with the Artist's picture in the background. I know that Android's music player was piss poor (Sense did improve on it) but Zune makes it look like nothing. Zune pass is great (albeit similar to Spotify just cheaper, I like the fact that you "download" though) and the software itself is awesome.
I don't really use podcasts, nor do I care about avi movies (I've synced over an AVI movie through Zune, zune just converts them, this doesn't bother me) although I will offer 2 of my own suggestions:
1. We need background listening support, this is more centric to the OS rather than Zune itself but what I mean is that apps like Last.FM need to be able to "catch" what we're listening to and then scrobble them
2. Zune PC Software is the best media player I've ever used but like above, no scrobbling, please enable plugin support =]
You can activate the Podcast section of the marketplace with a registry hack. Works perfectly:

I agree. Zune paid downloads are MP3s with no watermarks. Unlike iTunes AAC with watermarks (and your iTunes account email address).
It is the subscription downloads which are DRM'd with Windows Media. The point is that you get 10 MP3 downloads which have no DRM a month and the unlimited subscription downloads are a bonus.
Its like having the biggest jukebox in your pocket on top of 10 MP3 tracks.

+1. I don't buy.
Seriously, I didn't imagine that DRM still existed... Really?
If you want to compete with something free, don't make it more complicated than the free thing.

Of course. After the MSN Music and playsforsure fiasco Microsoft realise that if someone buys music to keep forver they want it in high quality 256kbps or 320kbps MP3s. That way they can continue to listen to them for years to come on any device.
Don't forget that Microsoft have many experiences of failure in the consumer world. But they keep coming back until they get it right.
That is why Eric Schmidt said that Microsoft/Bing were their only serious competition. Not Apple, Yahoo!, Facebook.

It's only DRM'd if you download music using Zune Pass.
I assume the DRM is because if you stop paying the Zune Pass fee, you lose your downloaded music (which TBF is understandable, they can't give you unlimited downloads for only £7.99 a month).
Also, I downloaded Last.fm as soon as I got the device, in the UK here.

That's only in America, doesn't seem to apply in the UK. You don't get to keep any music once you stop paying the Zune Pass fee.
Yeah im happy with the interface, only problem is Zune refuses to install on any of my x64 operating systems. This means im forced to run it on my EEEPC, which with such low horsepower, is a very very poor experience.
Avis are good for working with uncompressed pre-production video, but its a legacy format outside of that.
Divx/xvid, yea. Zune works in tandem with WMP on Windows.

Anyone having trouble installing Zune on a WinVP PC? I try to install the software but get an error message saying it won't install to C because access is denied. However, I re-downloaded the software and now it won't iniate the install. It unzips like it is going to install and then nothing happens.
EDIT- Figured it out. Simply created a "Zune" folder in programs of "C" and the software installed. Apparently the install process can't creat the Zune folder on C itself.

Could it be not available in some countries?
Yes, the Last.fm app might be limited to USA only as i DL'ed it and used it here in the States.
Shoutcast?!??! or Windows Media ASX steams??? how do we play these?
I'm trying to play an M3U stream, the only way I can work it is by emailing the URL and then opening it on the phone. It works but its not exactly great, if the signal is lost it doesnt rebuffer, it just plays what it had buffered up until connection lost over and over and over again!

I am hopeful for a way to listen to XM Radio. I have an account and there was a WM app that made this possible. The regular internet on WP doesn't allow me to listen to my online account for some reason. Maybe I'm just doing something wrong. Has anyone got XM to play on their new WP?

I emailed sirius about a wp7 app and they were noncommital about any app forthcoming. Hopefully it will come out soon.
I'm looking for a streaming app that has NPR. I usually listen to it on my morning commute but was using my iPhone for it. Now that I've moved over I don't have something to replace it. I'm hoping someone will come up with something soon as Slacker doesn't load well or load at all sometimes on my phone (htc Surround). There aren't any other apps for listening to NPR / public radio streams unless I over looked it?
iHeartRadio doesn't have the stations and has some audio issues sometimes.
Bumping up an old thread. I've just released a Siriux/XM app for WP7, and its live in the Marketplace now. Its called Sat Rad Player and you can find it at the following link:
http://social.zune.net/External/Lau...oneAppID=ecc794a8-aa58-e011-854c-00237de2db9e
We've set up some forums as well at http://www.satradplayer.com/Forums where people can get support or suggest enhancements to the app to make it better.
Check out the trial version and let me know what you think.

Yeah, this is a massive gaping hole in both WP7 and Zune's media playback capabilities. I'm hoping they introduce support in a future verson. I mean, it's not difficult. Sadly, I think the truth is they'd rather you were buying music from the Zune store.
Just one of many examples of the "dumbing down" of technology that seems all the rage these days.

You don't need a file explorer, you'd go into the hub eg pictures, long press on a picture and select share, via bluetooth.
Why would you need a file explorer? I swear some of you don't think before you post and just spin any feature question into a "we need a file explorer".. Anyway, I haven't heard any definitive answer about BT transfers for like images and contact cards... So I don't know why I keep seeing a "no" everywhere - unless I missed something from MIX
that is what i am thinking,ms could provide one button,by bypressing it,it could be shared via many other ways

Office Mobile isn't that good compared to ThinkFree or especially Documents-To-Go. The document compatibility is great, but the actual app functionality leaves much to be desired... That's why people are wondering if they'll have a better office suite.
They're prolly working on a better version for iOS, though. That seems to be the way Microsoft does things these days.

You are aware of the fact that there are different teams for each project, aren't you? The team working on improvements for WP7 is not the same team that's busy with working on iOS applications.
I'm more than aware of that. That's precicely why iOS has WLM with Messenger Social and we still have a crappy People Hub with no 1st party IM client.
That is part of the issue with Microsoft's mobile strategy. A Mobile OS is only as good as its apps and services integration. If they can't get their own Office/Windows Live/etc. team to support their own OS better than a competitor's product, those are issues which need to be remedied.
That was my point. Good job on being oblivious to it!

DivX is mostly MPEG4 Part 2 Advanced Simple Profile. And it's actually supported by WP7. The problem is that in real life DivX exists in .avi files, and this particular container format isn't supported. Now the weird thing is that .avi is Microsoft's own format, unlike .mp4 which is supported but comes from Apple.
