Hi
I couldn't have any clear information on this, just some scattered comments embedded within other threads (Darkside) and I was wondering if anyone knew of the installation method and files necessary to install AOSP dialer, contacts, email etc? I really wanted to try them out + I like using the LCD Density modifier so the basic TouchWiz Dialer looks squashed.
Tyvm!

No, not a theme, but actual AOSP applications: The dialer, SMS, contacts.
But thanks
No, look closer, man!
Heh heh heh!
In the OP, in that Thread, there is a flashable .zip that will give you the AOSP Gmail, Phone, and Contacts .apks. It will theme your Camera.apk, and another .apk (forgot which one...). AOSP MMS is there, as well!
It's a start, at least!

My fault, thank you Supakid
No problem, man!
Glad you found what you were looking for.
Those are all themed black.
Do you guys know where the regular ones are?
I've been looking around but can't find them.

If the ones from the GN work I can probably pull then and attach em here....let me know if that will work

No harm in trying!
That would be great. Can you do that?
-type R blood-
I sure can, here they are:
Phone/Dialer
Contacts
E-Mail
These were pulled from "/system/app"
Let me know how it goes
Thanks but how do I install these. I thought they were gonna be .apk
-type R blood-
They are APK's but they need to be pushed into "/system/app" with Root Explorer or a similar applications.
Make sure you set the correct permissions once you navigate to "/system/app" or else you will receive a permissions error. You set the right permissions by hitting the "Mount R/W" button on top by the navigation path.

By way of the Skyrocket Forums. I've been using these. These aren't themed in anyway i believe.

My GF's got a new Rogers S3 and I've configured the stock email app with 3 accounts. She does not like the black background of it and she'd like to be white. She does love the rest of the features though. I proposed her another email apk but she likes this one.
Any help here?
Thanks guys.

you talking about the ICS stock app or the Samsung stock app?
It says email on it and the icon looks like a white envelope with a red @ in it. I believe is the stock one. I haven't seen the samsung one. How does it look like?

Turn off the power saver option, it should then go to white background in email.
Here is the stock SecEmail.apk from the latest ICS leak.

You will need root and an app like Root Explorer to paste it to /system/app then set the permissions

I have been searching this long time and as nobody seem interested, try to do it by myself, but my knowledge is very limited and hasn't been able to make transparent the scroolable background....
There is, anyway, a black version out here, so it shouldn't be that dificult to change it to transparent.
In case someone with a little experience want to try, I attach cwm zips for both versions regular (white) and inverted (black)

I have already read better instructions here at XDA and also follow it without problems, being able to make transparent top and bottom ofthe widget (9.png files), but I'm nearly new in Android and unable to find the way to make transparent the scrollable background (where the messages list reside) and also to change text of messages to white.
I suppose that colours for that are defined in xlm files and search for it inside the apk folders, but none of the changes I made works.
Maybe the fellow who make the inverted version could send some light for us...

Sorry, but I haven't made the Inverted version. I get it in the Gmail 4.2 leak thread where it was posted:

And credits goes there to travp624, but I haven't find any post by this guy regarding the mod.
Maybe latter will try to find his profile and PM him for advice...

Yea me too please! I would love to have a transparent Gmal app (or at least the widget)!
Currently using the 4.2 inverted version on my CM10 modded Marvelc.
Without having to download THIS messaging app? The messaging app in my ROM has direct call and a couple of other goodies that I really like... just the colors are very boring and plain! Any help is very much appreciated, thanks.
The standard way of theming is open the mms. Apk in a zip viewer. Either win rar or 7 zip, then find the area that holds folders named draw able hdpi. Extract ONLY THE ICONS AND IMAGES You want to change. Font extract the whole apk. Then, open the images in photo shop or any editing program, change the colors as you please, save, (DONT CHANGE IMAGE NAME OR TYPE), then drop them back into the apk in the folder you found them and save changes to the zip. Once that's does, go into system/app, rename the end of the name .Bak. So apkname.Apk.bak
Then just copy and paste it into system app and then give it correct permissions if it doesn't already and then reboot

Try using gosms or handcent. I believe they have theming capabilities.

I used Handcent since my EVO 3D days but I really like the 4.2.2 Messaging app.... I just hate that I can't theme it. No need for a 3rd party messaging app... I can live with the plain colors, I'd just rather be able to theme it if possible!!
Then if Reapers response is too complicated the answer to your question is then No. There's no other way to do it.

Why wouldn't you just download that app? It makes it a lot easier on you to theme the stuff the way you want. :what:

Here are my Inverted and Transparent Apps. More will come!! As always make a back up prior to flashing just in case.
Flash the zips using your custom recovery or extract the zip using your file explorer and take the modded apk and replace over the stock one, set permissions, reboot, and enjoy! For Hangouts make sure you cut and paste the libs files and set permissions to match too.

Any apps that are not inside of a zip need to have root access in order to flash to your system partition. The ones that are simple apks like DropBox you install like any other app.

That tinted transparent looks nice! Thanks for checking into it. Would it be possible to go completely transparent, as in only words, no border or anything?
You mean like this? I made the widget completely transparent and the app itself inverted for easier viewing, enjoy!
You will not be able to install this like any apk. I themed this to work as a system/app so you will have to make a folder inside your system/app folder named GenieWidget (exaclty like this). Then take my apk and place it inside this folder, change permissions to rw-r-r, and reboot.

Well I usually like really dark backgrounds to give a good contrast to everything on the screen so the transparent works well with that and looks so clean.. but if I'm using anything lighter than say dark grey, its nice to have the darker tinted widget as well. Appreciate the flashable!

This is amazing! Just curious: why can't it be installed like a regular app? What is different about this apk? News and Weather installs just like any other app nowadays so I am curious why this can't just be installed as another app.
I ask because I would love to install this on my s8 (which is famously non-rooted).
Thank you so much for sharing! I'm also curious how you are going about changing the code for a not-open-source Google app.
Good question and it has to do with altering the source apk and signing,,,after it is themed and compiled it must be flashed as a system app in order to work otherwise it will f/c or not even install at all. If you want this exact type of apk and widget you can download anyone of my themes below and its on them both and can be used on the S8 unrooted.
