[Concept] Screenshot function for tango - Windows Phone 7 General

If you think about it, the app switcher screen take screenshot bitmaps for all the apps and even games (something the current screenshot homebrew cannot do). So it would be logical if there was a way to save those bitmaps.
Hopefully tango will bring native screenshot function. I came up with this concept below. You basically hold the back button for 3 seconds more after the app switcher screen appears.

That's pretty good. There are many ways one could go.
You could override the camera button so that in the task switch mode it takes screenshots, or you could press power + camera key together etc.

Wouldn't that take the screen shot of the multi tasking view. It would be better if its pressing windows key and search key at the same time.

Nice idea and I would agree using two switch instead of one. This will avoid confusion.

I'd go with long tap on search button... the only one that doesn't have anything... yet

It would be coooool XD

Camera and Home button

Hello! Nobody working to map the Home or Power On button to take pictures? Regards..
Yeah, was looking for this as well... Looked into tasker but that doesn't seem to be appropriate for it (was thinking something 'in camera app, if btn pressed, do this)
power button for taking pictures would be awesome!
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
wouldn't that mean you cant turn off your phone or on because if theres a dedicated camera key theres no power button
i´d say the camera app should be modded to use the power key, so only when camera is open this is true.
well on JM2 the powe button does something when you use the camera ... it lock every function
that's weird because you can't do anything ... no taking pictures, no killing the app, only unlock it by pressing the power button again
I agree this i cool in the video player
but in the camera ?!?

Selftimer.
Not a self-timer afaik. Even a lock icon comes up. I have used it a few times. Basically when you wait to take a picture you can have the picture app open and then have it in the pocket ready to be taken out, so you don't have to worry about a) opening the app quickly when you want to take the pic, b) having the app open and taking pictures/returning to home when you don't want to. Not a "must-have" feature by any means and it probably uses a lot more battery than just opening the app when you want to.
Changing it to take pictures would be most welcomed. Tapping on the screen is quite a delicate thing when you don't want to move the phone at all.
I meant that it could get practical if you put the camera on selftimer and lock the screen so you don't mistakenly press any button.

ok, but i found this still stupid
it empty the battery for nothing, and people who don't take much attention won't see the lock icon so they will think : **** it bugged ....

I was looking at this, as I want some way to take pics quickly. Home and Power button don't seem easily do-able, but does anybody want the following?
Quick launching app that you can put on your homescreen, that launches a camera preview. Tapping on the screen takes a pic and saves it to /sdcard/$date.jpg
Not quite a dedicated camera button, but should be very fast for taking a quick picture. If a couple people want it, I'll throw it together quickly. (Might just throw it together for myself quickly anyway )

I find the lock function to be useful when taking long videos as I've accidental knocked the stop button on occasion by accident.
On a second note, if a physical shutter button was sought-after wouldn't the volume buttons be more effective as the power button is fairly near the top and you'll probably end up covering the lens versus using the volume buttons on the bottom (this is presuming you're taking pictures in landscape, right?)

[Request] Take pictures with the side button?

I know development is kinda sparse here for the droid pro...but anyway someone can modify the camera.apk to allow the side button to work for taking pictures?
yea that would be kinda nice.
Ive got it set up now so that the single side button opens the camera, but it doesnt take pics
Had that feature on my old BB Tour before I switched to the Droid Pro. Really miss that feature. Don't miss much of anything else though.
I posted this on droidforums.net. works with stock GB camera as well as MIUI camera apk which i like a bit better.
I have been wanting to use the side button as a shutter button since I got the Droid Proand it can be done using Button Re-Mapper
You must be rooted to use this app so.... First go to settings>applications>Quick Launch and press/hold side button to clear the assigned app, this setting will no longer work once we remap the button. Open button remapper and scroll all the way to the bottom of the list and click on 246 (Side) and change it to Camera with Wake_Dropped state, apply changes and reboot. This way, along with No Lock app installed, your side button will now wake the phone. Once the phone is awake, press/hold the side button and it will bring up the camera. Now press the side button while the camera app is active and it will snap the pic. Yay.
The next coolest thing would be an app that can reprogram button actions the buttons are pressed/held like on BlackBerry. This would allow press/hold button shortcuts from homescreen without using the search soft key as we have to use now.
THANK YOU for posting this, should be made sticky in a mods page. ButtonRemapper http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=850464 and no lock from the matter go straight in my howto on this phone.
Another thing on my 3.8... verizon latest rom on settings, applications, quick launch you can do something similar to what you are saying pressing search + letter are keyboard shortcuts, like on BBs!
I'll also share that Toggle 2g/3g

works great and with widget it extends my battery even more.
Needs resigning of system apps on droid pro, be very careful and do things step by step adding pause in the batch file..

Getting out of fullscreen apps

After I made my version of the GB keyboard do paging with volume +/-, I thought a little about what else one might want. I know some people here really like to have apps in fullscreen mode, without the soft buttons, but then there is the problem of how to get out of such apps (unless the developer thoughtfully provided an exit option). Well, one could modify the GB keyboard app to map something to HOME. Here are three options that come to mind:
- Volume down press. (But then you can't adjust volume.)
- Long volume down hold. (But then your volume gets unnecessarily adjusted.)
- Half-long power hold. (Assuming I can map power keys. I haven't tried.) The down side is that if you want to pop up the long power hold menu, you will be sent home before it shows up. Still, that's perhaps not so bad if you only enable this feature for selected apps.
And here's another option, which could even work together with other keyboards:
- Power button double tap.
You press the power button twice within a short interval (say, 1/2 second) and the current app is exited. Of course, this won't look so good: the screen will turn off and turn back on. But it should be pretty easy to implement.
Any other thoughts?
Hi,
you could simply press the power-button long until the menu pops up and then switch to button-mode which provides a home-button
Instead of getting rid of the softkeys completely, I just make them smaller (24px) using Buttons for RW Rooted Archos.
I you have a rooted device, you can use the button savior app which is available on the market. You can locate this button wherever you want.

I think not. When you an application is forced into fullscreen mode by setting the FULLSCREEN.FULL option in the manifest, the button mode option isn't in the menu--or so I recall.

OK, now I did.
AnTuTu 2D without Button Savior: 295
AnTuTu 3D without Button Savior: 674
AnTuTu 2D with Button Savior: 289
AnTuTu 3D with Button Savior: 666
So, surprisingly little difference.

Oh, what about e.g. the default clock-app or the gallery-app by archos? They don't have those Buttons but you can get them over the menu. Is this somehow "another kind of fullscreen"?

I am thinking of apps forced into fullscreen mode either by modifying their manifest.xml file, or by editing the device's packages.xml. These are apps not designed to be used in fullscreen mode, but which can benefit from a fullscreen mode.

Button savior - the better menu/recent apps button

Don't really know why this app was never mentioned here.
I know it from my Archos 70 times.
To know what it does its best you look in the play store for it, but I want to tell you for what only reason I use it.
You can have shown all buttons you would have as hardware buttons, but that's not the point.
If you use the pro version you can edit and reorder those buttons, and that's what I did.
I choose only one button and that was the menu button, when only one button is mapped it directly uses that instead of expanding than I put the icon to the lowest right corner., and there you have the menu button, now you can use recent apps button like intended without having to map it to long press or something else.
Sure you can do the it with the recent apps button instead, whatever you prefer or use more frequently. Will try it the next days and see if it's practical in daily use.
You can see the button in the picture attached, you can set 3 sizes, for now I try biggest, that's what you see on the pic. I don't think it's interfering in use because it's totally in the corner which u don't use that much.
This way you get the speed of the recent apps button with the comfort of having a menu button
Let me know what you think of it

Yes but only with long press that's to slow and uncomfortable sometimes.

A couple simple things I can't figure out how to do.

My phone is rooted,
How do you multitask? For example if I am using Chrome or the stock browser, how do I switch to a app without exiting the browser? I thought it was long press the back button but it does not work. And how do I change the icons on my lock screen? Ive looked through all the setting and cant find it.
1. Press and Hold the HOME button (the physical button in the middle)
2. Settings --> Lock Screen --> Lock Screen Options --> (press) Shortcuts (not the on / off button .. the word)
If you dont have the multiwindow , you need to update firmware to get it.

Why would multi-task not be supported by my phone? This should be a basic capability with smart phones these days.

That IS multitasking. You're in the browser, then you want to switch to for example the S Note app without exiting (as in closing down/quitting) the browser. You press and hold the home button and select S Note in the app list that pops up. Then when you're done you do the same thing to get back to the browser.
If you're talking about dividing the screen in two and having two apps visible at the same time, that's a different thing, it's called multi-window and is done by pressing and holding the back key, then in the list that pops up, drag for example YouTube and drop it on the top of your screen, then do the same thing again to drag some other app to the bottom of the screen.
If you don't have the multi-window feature, you need to update your firmware.

OK. Forget about the whole update thing. I don't think we're talking about the same thing here.
Long pressing home = list of recent apps
Long pressing back = multi-window app selection bar
If you want a list of apps on your phone, you press the home button once to get back to your home screen, and from there open the app drawer.
Is that what you meant?
Sorry for my original post above, I misread what you said. I thought you were talking about the multi Window feature in note 2 which can be activated by long pressing the back button.
The multi tasking is when you long press the home button, correct. You get the list of recently opened apps. That's how it works and how it always worked.
If you want a customizable pad that's let's you switch to other apps on the fly, then I highly recommend SwipePad. You can find it in the market and it's free.

For me
Long pressing Home= list of only recently opened apps (not all the apps on my phone).
Long pressing back= does nothing on my phone when I long press it.
Long press home button gives you a list if recently opened apps, yes. That's how it works. It doesn't, in any version of android, give you a list of all installed apps in your phone. I don't know where you got that idea.
Second, if you want the multi Window feature (which opens when you long press the back button) then check OTA update. If there are no updates for you, then wait for it in the future.

To open any other app on your phone, just press Home button and then run any app you wanted, and if you want switch back to your last app long press Home.
If you still dont get it, than search in youtube for Android multitasking.
