My last Dinc finally gave up, I got the new one today and tried to root with unrevoked3 to no avail the radio on my new Dinc is different, any how-to's to get this rooted with s-off?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1306400
Ok...I got it to S-off, but now I have no back-up for it to boot to, I just keep booting into hboot, I can get to recovery, how can I access the sd card to put my backup on it from recovery? Can I just give you my number and talk to you if you are ok with that?
You need to flash clockwork recovery, you can download the PB31IMG.zip from here (http://pvillecomp.com/?page_id=28).
Download and place on sd card in no folders named exactly PB31IMG.zip.
Power off phone and pull battery, then replace.
Hold vol down button and power button untill a white screen appears (hboot). After a couple seconds it will find the PB31IMG.zip file and prompt you to press vol up to install. Do so and when prompted to reboot do so.
Now you should be able to access recovery from hboot, and mount the sdcard to place your old backups on it.
Ok, I followed your instructions to the "T", all was good when it was over, It had installed the downgrade, then I did the update CWM like it stated, when I rebooted into recovery there was no back-up for it to find, and I did a complete back-up of the Original Factory Rom, So what I did was pull my SD card and plug into PC and copied my back-up I put on PC to the SD in the CWM back-up folder and WALA all is good.
Thank you so much for all your help, now my Cyanogen7mod and my Stock works just fine.

my desrie has been running fine until today.
was running the open desire rom but changed the pinky desire 1.8 a few weeks ago.
when using phone today a few apps kept force closing so i decided to reboot the phone.
it kept sticking on the loading screen, it would go black for a second as if it was about to load as normal but then it would loop back to the loading screen.
i tried factory reseting from clockwork recovery console then wiping cache and data and then re installing a rom.
now it just sits on the first HTC screen the one you get after powering up.
EDIT ; i have googled and had a bit of a search for answers. have tried most of them with no positive results.
have probably made things worse,
while waiting for a possible reply on here and various tinternet searches for my problem i was tryingh all sorts to get it working again.
and have now wiped the SD card data completley. so now i cant load a rom from the SD card.
i tried coping my sd card back up data from my pc back on to the card but it cant run the update.zip file to get into the recovery mode.
will i have to use my gold card to get some sort of working rom on my phone now?
OK first thing to try is ensure the SD card is formatted correctly, so boot into recovery and partition the SD card. You want 0swap, 512EXt2, and rest fat32. Then still in the partiton menu upgrade ext2 to ext 3.
Once that is done, while still in recovery you should see an option for usb toggle or or something it's called. With the usb lead plugged in this will mount your SD card on the computer so you can copy your rom onto it.
From there you should be able to flash in the usual way.
Edit: just re-read your second post, and realised you can't boot into recovery. You will need a card reader to put the update.zip on, or you should be able to flash an ruu. You'll likely need your goldcard for that, and then re-root afterwards.

i take it i dont need my gold card if my phone has been debranded?
the stock roms are ruu files and all the guides i have read including
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=696189
this one im guessing you need your phone to access htc sync..
if my phone is not loading up how can i put a stock rom or unroot from the recovery console?
i have managed to put back in the fake flash update zip and have that working now at least.. tried installing a custom rom zip from the SD card from recovery console on the phone but it is still stuck on the HTC screen.
Have u tried a stock rom, running an RUU? Do it like this enter bootloader and connect the phone to the computer it should be found by the computer, in your phone should apear fastbootUSB or bootloaderUSB, something like that..
Hope it works

10. Enjoy your new ROM
and it worked, for some reason i couldnt flash the rom using clockwork recovery mode, but this worked a treat..
was really pooping it cause i thought it was game over and welcome to a posh shiney door stop..
Nice one. Glad you got it sorted.
My son rooted his EVO using unrevoked 3 and it worked fine until he created a custom rom when it loaded it wiped out his operating system and didn't load. Now his phone is stuck the boot loader screen. Can someone please tell us how to fix the phone if you need more info just let me know and I will get it. Thanks for any help!
Did he make a nandroid backup? If not here is some advice: Ok, first go into bootloader, hit recovery then hit wipe data/ facotry reset (something to that effect) wait for it to finish and try a reboot. If that doesn't work, take out the micro sd card, insert it into your computer and download a stock rooted HTC evo rom (should be a zip file, don't extract!). Once done downloading, place it on the root of the micro sd.then put the sd back into the phone and boot into recovery again. Once in recovery, hit the install zip from sd and the hit choose file from sd. Find the file you downloaded and hit enter. Wait for it to install and reboot the phone. It should run properly again if these steps were done correctly.

You're on the right path but a bit off track.
Just use #1 if you have access to Recovery. Just read #2 so you have the correct illustration of what boatloader looks like vs recovery. (The post above was confusing)
#1. Make sure you have a rooted version of a stock ROM on the root of your SD card. If you do not, read the later part of #2.
Next, for to wipe and the wipe data, cache, and dalvik 2x..
Then, flash rooted ROM from the zip. Test...see if it works... if you tried over a dozen times with problems... then try #2.
If you had created a NANDrois back up as the root suggestions imply the here is where yo can restore nanderois as well.
If this still does not resolve the missed, you can try #2 or learn how to flash RUU.
#2. The white screen with the android on the skate board is the boatloader. When your EVO is yrunes off, you can access this by pressing and holding power+volume down. Remember, this is the bootloader.
Now, you can put a rooted pc32 zip in the root of the SD card by either removing the SD card from the phone and using a micro SD card reader.
Or, you can go to the bootloader screen then you can select recovery and go to recovery.
From recovery, toggle to USB and then push it copy the pc32 zip to the root of your SD card.
Once you have the zip on the SD card, turn off your phone or ADB command a reboot bootloader. Press yes to flash thepc32 zip
Did this work?

Hey guys. I rooted my phone and it worked great. I installed clockwork and saved my ROM to where if I went to another ROM I could set it up easier. WRONG! So now I have wiped my data and cleared my cache and reinstalled revoked. when I reboot the phone it just keeps booting up on the white HTC EVO 4G screen. I have let the phone site for 30 minutes and when I came back it is stilling rebooting to this screen for a couple of minutes, then reboot to this screen and repeat. How can I fix this?????
right now I have wiped my data again, cleared storage, and installed unrevoked again. It now says install from sdcard complete. What do I try from here??
Need to choose zip to install to sd card
Then navigate to the rom zip that you downloaded/choose
That should load you up, sounds like your rooted and now just need to flash your rom of choice. Good luck
Swyped from a galaxy far far away......
ok I wiped date, wiped dalvick, cleared storage. I then ran unrevoked. I then went to the sd card to unzip my ROM and it wasnt there! So I pulled the battery, I pulled the SD card and inserted another card which I installed the PC36img.zip on. I did a hard reset and it booted into HBoot. I then went into recovery and I then went to install zip from SD card. I choose the PC36img and then it did something really fast and I couldnt read what it said. I did see clockworkmod at the top. I then rebooted and now the phone goes to the HTC EVO 4G screen for about 1 minute then reboots and does it over and over. Im stuck and I dont know what to do.......
It sounds to me like you need to zip a rom to your phone.
Put a copy of the zip of your rom of choice onto your desktop and plug your phone into the computer.
Boot your phone into hboot. (volume down + power)
Choose recovery
When you are booted into recovery choose usb-toggle option.
Your phone should then show up as a storage device and you should then copy your zip to the sd card.
toggle usb off
Wipe data, cache, and dalvik-cache
Flash zip
Reboot
The initial boot might be a bit long, but your phone should be up and running. If so you should perform a backup, and then save that onto your computer to avoid loss if anything should go wrong.
*you don't need to keep flashing the pc36.img file, and you don't need to keep running unrevoked. you should already be in root with nand unlocked, so just flash a new rom like Myn's or Fresh or whatever you want
I got it. Thanks for your help!

Glad to do so...
I haven't changed anything in the phone since I bought it last year, I just rooted it and put Leedroid on it shortly after.
At first, the phone used to randomly reboot. This started a couple months ago. But today it turned off during a call and now stays on the white HTC bootup screen.
What could be wrong?
Falsh another rom via recovery
No, not another one. Flash the same one, so LeeDroid. If that doesn't help you can just do a full wipe then flash LeeDroid.
Thanks for the replies. Much appreciated.
However, theres an update. I cleared storage through the bootloader menu and now rather than hanging on the white screen, it goes on further to a black screen with "android" written in silver.
I'll try the Leedroid flash again. Do I do the original Leedroid ROM or can I do an updated version?
Can anyone help me with how to load a new ROM whilst stuck in this situation? I can get into FASTBOOT USB, just need to know how to transfer the ROM onto the phone's storage.
Thanks!
U can't transfer data threw fastboot either use a SD card reader or some one else mobile n transfer data n then reinstall or install a fresh Rom
Device HTC Desire
Rom RcmMixSv08
SD class 4 6.40gb fat32 / 1gb ext3
S OFF
Radio 5.11.05.14
Hboot 0.93.1000
custom hboot Alpharev Cm7
Recovery Alpharev Cmw 2.5.1.8
Fake Flash Cwm 3.0.0.5
I thought that the update.zip option only works from the internal storage, not the external?
download the newest complete rom - not an update.zip

I'm stuck on the bit after that.
I've downloaded the ROM. I just need to install it in the phone's current state. I would be grateful if someone could tell me how to install the ROM if the phone doesn't boot.
Assuming you have Clockwork Mod installed, this is what you need to do:
1. Somehow get the ROM (*.zip file) on your SD card (through a card reader or someone else's phone or any other mean).
2. Boot your phone into the bootloader (hold volume down when you turn on the device).
3. Click Recovery (wait a few seconds for the SD card to mount, then press volume down to navigate and use the power button for "click").
4. Then click "install zip from sdcard" and navigate to your ROM and install it.
What version of LeeDroid were you using? If it's one of the latest ones then you need to have USB debugging enabled otherwise you could encounter the problem you describe.
I hadn't yet installed the ROM, and the ROM that I was using previously was one of the early 2. versions.

I really hope that it's the solution for me too. I have the same problem, my DS is also dead but i don't know what rom i had.. So i guess i'll just try RUU_Saga_HTC_Europe...blah-blah..
Basic info:
S-OFF
HBOOT-2.02.0000
RADIO-2.15.00.09.01
I've unlocked my Evo 4G using Unrevoked3, then ran UnrevokedForever. (was that dumb?)
After that, I tried to update to Cyanogen 7.0 using ROM Manager two days ago, and learned AFTERWARD it wasn't a very good idea, that it's not wiping cache and the dalvik cache etc. fully and this has burned many people. I got stuck in a boot loop (waited 30 minutes) and nothing. So I booted to the Clockwork recovery, and get the following errors:
Android system recovery <2e>
Use Volume key to highlight;
click power key to select.
reboot system now
apply sdcard:update.zip
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition
------------------------------------
E:Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p1 (or /dev/block/mmcblk0)
(I/O error)
...repeats 10 times then:
e:Can't find /sdcard/update.zip

Doing research this usually means the Micro SD card or the slot itself is boned.
So I've removed the Micro SD, and carefully cleaned and reseated everything. Now I get:
Android system recovery <2e>
Use Volume key to highlight;
click power key to select.
reboot system now
apply sdcard:update.zip
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition
------------------------------------
E:Cant open /cache/recovery/command

So it SEEMS I might have fixed the SD card, and it's now reading, but the backup is gone?
Just letting it boot, (and re-trying several times) it now sits at the white EVO 4G screen and goes no father.
I don't have an SD card reader or micro-adapter at this time. So I've been trying to push an update or flash through fastboot.exe connected over USB.
I've been reading the stickied threads, getting fastboot, and ADB (says device not found, but fastboot finds the Evo just fine...) with the Android SDK up and installed on my Win7 x64 PC for the past two days. I don't even know where to start anymore, I'm not even sure if I'm trying to fix the right things. I just need a working phone at this point, and hopefully haven't lost all my Titanium Backup info on the SD Card either.
I hate my first post being a question like this, I've been searching and reading until I'm blue, I just don't know where to begin.
It's ok, you're not dead in the water. Clockwork Recovery, in MY opinion, is just not reliable. Nor is ROM Manager. I've seen too many people have problems. If I were you, I would get the pc36img for Amon RA, which I have attached here.
Make sure it is named PC36IMG.zip (all you have to do is delete everything in the name between PC36IMG and .zip
Exactly like that, and put it on the root of your SD Card, then boot into the bootloader. (Vol down/Power til boot loader appears)
When it does it's scan, it will find the file and ask you to update. Click to yes and let it flash it, then the phone reboots back to bootloader.
Now, it'll scan the file again and ask you to update, but say no this time, then go to recovery.
If you do boot up into recovery, and you should, go to wipe and wipe EVERYTHING, except the SD Card. You have a good start by doing the SD Card already. Do a factory reset/User data, and then each sub category, except the SD card. Then, hit return and flash and flash your ROM. Now, you probably know, it will take some extra time to boot up, but you should be OK.
Thanks for replying, I KNOW I'm in one of the "asked a thousand times already" situations, I'm not just figuring out which one it is.
I've been trying to get Amon_RA recovery loaded. I could tell this was the best (too late), but am still struggling to push it to the root of the SD card so the loader will pick it up.
Now I'm thinking I can't push a pc36img.zip file to the root of the SD card with fastboot.exe correct? (I know I need to rename it to exactly the right name, saw that messing up lots of folks in my endless searching.)
I'm trying to push it with ADB, but I haven't gotten that to connect yet. I might not have the right USB drivers that ADB likes, and I can't get it to recognize the device, or open up the shell. I installed HTC Sync which is supposed to get ADB to connect, but no dice. Did the USB Debugging mode get blown away when I manually cleared cache and user settings? I'd thought that the Loader screen would have it, but I'm not so sure.
If I can't get ADB working within the next hour, I'm going to swing through Office Depot and get a micro SD card/USB reader or the little shell that makes it regular SD-sized and stuff the file on that way if I have to.
You don'[t have a way to just copy it to your SD Card? A card reader or a different phone you can put the SD Card in for a minute and connect to your computer.
You don't need ADB, but if you can connect via ADB, just copy the file to your sd card.
Yeah, I just got home from work, and picked up a cheapie USB/Micro-SD adapter on the way.
I'm loading the .zip right now.
ETA: Well, that's fixed. SOOOOOO much better than Clockwork.
ETA #2: I wiped/erased everything except for the SD Card....
Now what did I screw up? I got Cyanogen 7.0.3.1 (newest listed stable release) and copied it onto the SD root as PC36IMG.ZIP It recognized it, read it, and then I went into Ammon_RA recovery, and chose the option to flash a zip from SD card, and it spent time loading, prompted me to reboot, then it rebooted and still sits at the white HTC EVO 4G screen. I let it sit for 15 minutes.
ETA #3: Re-loaded everything once more and it's now working great!
The cyangen is a ROM, you just go to flash zip from sd card or whatever it's called,. browse to the rom and flash it. You don't have to rename that. Just go back to recovery, wipe everything again and then flash the ROM that way
