Hi everyone! Thank you for your help in getting CM up to a flawless standard! We are now almost ready to deploy CM 1.5 - it will include MMS blocking, Class0 auto replies and many other new and very cool features.
We need your help now to iron out any remaining bugs before we embark on a daemon rebuild. Please download the app from the market and get testing! Here are the issues we want to address specifically:
- If you have problems regaining 3G after the telephony restart. This should have been fixed. If not, please try "Slow radio restart" in Debugging and report your results!
- Issues moving list priorities on Light or Dark theme. Again, if you have issues, please switch to the other theme, try again and then report back.
- Notification color schemes. We are interested if the new notifications comply with the majority of frameworks.
Thank you in advance for all your great work, this ultra-awesome app is as much a child of yours as it is of ours

This is a fully functional application. However, after a 24 hour demo period it will start nagging you to buy the Key, which will remove all nag
screens and timeouts from the interface. The nag screens are pretty light though, so users who dont want to spend can live with them.

So, has anyone done any testing?
Hey, running it since yesterday. Here are the issues I found:
1) Data connection not working. I waited for 15 minutes for data connection to start, restarted telephony service still no data.
2) Restarted phone, data came back for a while then again gone!!!!
3) Menu button is disabled, is this feature or bug?
4) I can't move to full screen mode. Maybe some problem with ROM? I'm using CheckROM v4, with siyah 2.6.2
5) Lot of FC due to lack of data connection as phone considers it enabled but apps don't get any data
Will let you know more if found

Sounds like your issues are rom related. There is no way lack of data could be causing fcs...

It's the free version anyway, I've downloaded it now and will test

Hi guys, we have just release a cool new app that many will find useful:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=21736203
Have a look and do some testing!
call log
The app work perfect...
In log menu we have: system, all, and whatever block list activated. If i delete a number in all tab, the other block list doesn't automatically clear up until i scroll pass it or exit and go back into log.
Feature request: pls include "FORWARD" in action. I do aware of forward option in call menu but that would forward all...
By the way guys, we have just released a new app that lets you securely switch between multiple installations of android on one device:

Check it out please!

Hi everyone. Im one of the developers of SwitchMe, and app that allows multiple secure logins into separate installations of android on a single device. The pr is after the break.
I really need a few people to check into some issues people on the original galaxy s have been experiencing. There are some warnings involved:
- testers must perform a full nandroid backup before using the app, it is not our responsibility if you start getting boot loops
- if you report results or bugs, please use the "Write to us" function in the app whenever possible, and always describe the issue in the header of the logs you send
- if you post here, bes sure to include your device type and rom
- if you have apps installed on sd, be sure to mention that as well
--------------------------------------------------------------------
SwitchMe is a unique application for root users that allows you to log in and out of multiple installations of Android just as you would on a desktop computer.
The technology behind SwitchMe saves all of your applications and data, protects it and stores it as a file in memory. You can then log out of an
account and log into a fresh installation of Android or another account with its own unique content.
You may create as many profiles as the memory is capable of holding. Some of these may require very little free memory because they contain few apps,
others will be larger as they contain many applications and lots of cache and data.
Why is this functionality useful?
Privacy - the most obvious benefit is that you can securely share one device among multiple users, which gives you privacy and peace of mind.
Testing - if you are a developer, you can use profiles as clean sandboxes to test your applications and their interaction with the system.
Gaming – with multiple installations of Android on a single device, you can now play online MMOs as different characters.
Speed - the games your kids play slow down your tablet, but with SwitchMe you can easily create profiles without games or instant messengers.
Battery life - when the battery is low but there are important emails or documents to edit later, switch to a profile which only contains these essentials.
These of course are only suggestions - there are plenty of other uses for the functionality SwitchMe offers.

The Lite version allows the creation of two profiles, enough to test on.

Rom : simplicity 2.2.1
1st try , cloning the default profile,
Now i can switch to the cloned profile n i do all below
-Uninstall some app,
-delete call logs,
-delete some sms
-change to flight mode.
Then , switch back to default profile,
-all app are still there,
-call logs are deleted,
-deleted sms also gone in default profile
-and it remains in flight mode
Then i switch back to cloned profile,
-all previously uninstalled app, still there, but i cant run them
Then i switch back to default profile, everything fine.
Next, i delete the cloned profile, and make a new fresh profile, and switch to new profile. Everything just like when first flash Simplicity.

-all app which not come with Simplicity have black icon with SD on it.
-all sms still there
-all contacts gone
Switch back to default profile,
-everything fine except my contacts all gone

Try wiping the cache after first booting into a new profile. We are considering adding this as a feature.
By the way, the app currently only supports the official android implementation of a2sd.

SwitchMe - share your device!
SwitchMe is a unique application for root users that allows you to log in and out of multiple user spaces just as you would on a desktop computer, with each profile having its own separate system settings, apps and data.
Some of the benefits of this technology:
Privacy
Securely share one device among many users, protect your accounts with passwords and log out automatically.
Kids
Create a profile for the kids, with only the apps and access you feel comfortable with.
Gaming
Overclock your profile for maximum performance in intensive games
Speed
Imagine a buttery smooth profile, with no kids games, messengers or bloatware to slow things down.
Testing
Create a sandbox profile to easily test applications and themes - no more nandroid nightmares!
Battery
Switch to a profile which only contains the essentials to save power through brute force.
Critical usage warning:
Incorrect use of this application can potentially harm your device. Before proceeding with use we strongly recommend that you perform a full nandroid backup through the device recovery.
READ THE HELP FILE CAREFULLY TO AVOID ISSUES
Without the Key, this application allows a maximum of 2 profiles and no security features.
Only the standard Android implementation of Apps2SD is currently supported. Use all others at your own risk.
Most devices should be compatible as long as they have enough free internal memory to create secondary profiles. The application will warn users if available memory is low.
Stay tuned for new features, and please rate the application by pressing the star button on the main screen - good ratings help us improve and expand functionality!

Been looking at this app for quite some time but never actually tested it out... now I have a nexus 7 it might be a time to change that.
Firstly what I would want is to set a second profile for my girlfriend, hiding all root apps and giving her a kindle profile etc, the basic stuff. I take it that is what this app is designed to do?
secondly, how does uninstalling this app work?

It all seems to work perfectly for me. Great app. SwitchMe allows me to lend my N7 to family members whilst keeping my profile intact and hidden.
My only suggestion at the moment is to allow a different wallpaper choice for the switch screen. I could then set a background with graphic instructions/welcome messages on it.

1 - yes
2 - uninstalling the app will not remove the profiles. You must manually remove them, either through the app or by deleting its data. The app will warn you that you will lose access to all inactive profiles when deleting them (restricting you to the profile youre in at the moment).

Hello, I'm very interested in this app.
I want to be able to have my own profile and one for my children to play educational games.
I would like to be able to hide applications on that particular profile even if the data is not shared across profiles on the same app.
I would also be concern about the storage. Would they be able to view the files on my sdcard from other profiles? Is there a way to prevent that or allocated some storage space for different accounts?
Also another concern that I have is with Rom updates or even switching roms. In the case I want to just update the rom and at worst I have to do a cache/dalvik cache wipe, would that affect the profiles in any way?
Edit: I just tested and I can view everything on the storage area of the device and further. Also the gallery shows all the photos that stored on the device.
As I said above, the maintenance is up to you. Regarding different roms - you can only use one base from - if you want to use a new one, you will need to remove the app and delete your profiles.
Anything to report?
Hi guys. Heres an update with some critical fixes:
1.5.3.13
Added compatibility for Galaxy Note
Fixed switch screen issue on OTA updates and wipes
Reworked wipe profile behavior
I created a new profile and named it "default". Then I chose to switch to it and my player rebooted. After rebooting though it comes up with a login screen but whenever I put in my name "default" and try to log in it does nothing. I'm completely locked out. Also I did not set any password. Is there something I'm doing wrong?

Hello,
First off, I want to say thank you for creating this app. It has been working great for my family to share our N7.
I'm familiar with linux, but I am not familiar with Android. So I have a couple questions.
1. I installed an app(game) in the wrong user's profile. My son made alot of progress in it and I don't want to lose it. Is there a way to copy an app and all of its data from one profile to another?
2. If I download a new app in one profile is there a way to copy it to multiple profiles without having to redownload it again. Could this be done through ADB?
3. If I wanted to wipe the tablet and start over will doing a backup with TiBu copy all the data for every user or do I need to do a separate backup for each user?
Thanks for your help,
Chris
Been using it ever since I got my Nexus 7, works great for my wife and I.
I haven't tried the experimental fast-switch though, maybe I should.
My only recommendation is to set the priority on the notification to one of the new JellyBean ones, the lowest. That way it will stay in the notification tray, but won't show the icon on the top bar. That's something Lux and Battery Widget Reborn do really well. It still keeps the apps running, just doesn't crowd the bar with icons.

Fast switch will only affect things like multiple languages, multiple lcd densities and and other framework related stuff. Just try it, it wont make your device explode.
Regarding the notification. It is not there to keep the app in memory, its there for logging out. App doesnt need to be in memory, it will work just fine with no notification at all.
I want to be able to granularly set the permissions for each app. From what I understand my options are:
Cyanogenmod - except CM10 for SGS2 is missing this at this time
Pdroid for GB
Pdroid 2.0 - running CM10 only
LBE (from China)
I have had Pdroid 2.0 running on CM10 for a few weeks but CM10 isn't stable - just had it auto-reboot in the middle of a call. Does anybody have any other ideas / suggestions?
On a related note - I'm wondering why it seems that most people aren't bothered with apps monitoring their use and even more important archiving all the data compiled on them?? The only thing that I can think of is that most cell phone / XDA users are really young and just don't know any better??? Didn't they pay any attention in history class?? What am I missing here?

Because phone security is generally easy to manage. Most apps make a good name for themselves. And many people check the security of an app as soon as it were to hit the Play Store. It doesn't mean we are young it means that we aren't dumb and know how modern technology works.

I highly doubt that anyone on XDA, regardless of age, is dumb. I do believe, however, that there are quite a few younger members who could be a bit naive due to a lack of experience. Younger folks tend to take most things at face value. Just because something is free monetarily doesn't mean it isn't costing you something. Just because an app is on Play Store doesn't mean it is "secure" - especially since the Play Store (as well as Android, Google, et.al.) operate on the same business model as the apps!
Just a random example - Why would Angry Birds need my Sim Card Serial number to operate properly? Why would it need to know the phone numbers of all my incoming calls? Answer - it doesn't - in fact it doesn't need ANY of the permissions it asks for to operate properly. So why does it ask for these permissions? Answer - it is data mining your phone.
Ok, so I think most XDA members are aware of WHAT these apps are doing. My original question is WHY don't more people seem to care?

Yes, this is the app I listed above - just had the initials wrong! :silly: It is a lot like pdroid but, like you, it scares me.
I have my own small business and run most of it from my phone, in the beginning I used the standard flip phone then graduated on to a touch pro 2 with Windows Mobile 6.5 as I began to accumulate massive amounts of data on my Windows Mobile phone, for some reason I still felt secure in the applications like ActiveSync that I was in control of my data.... A year ago last October I upgraded to the Samsung Galaxy s2.. this was my first real experience with Google's Android operating system. in the first few minutes of using the new phone I could see how deeply the hooks were being placed to data mine my information. I resisted at first but then came to realize if I wanted all the bells and whistles Google was offering I had to play the game... I use the security program mentioned above... maybe they should have an app were you sign a consent of exactly which data you would like to keep on your phone and not share with other people. then when you visit the play store apps that request more of your private data than you're willing to share won't show up? I would like to have an open sourced built firewall that monitors traffic, letting me choose the permissions per app as I see fit.

I've ran both Adhvanlt's and Lens's JB MIUI Roms, and they're both amazing! The standard MIUI launcher feels a bit like the iphone, and there is no app drawer, but that's easily fixed by downloading [insert favorite launcher here] if you don't care for it. There's hundreds of options for customization. They are literally the most customizable ROMs you'll ever run; All of this on top of the fact that it has the security features I believe you are after baked right in to it.

Looked at two MIUI ROM's for the E4GT. Both of them have issues with Google Voice. I need Google Voice.
I am also going to try +AF (Droidwall fork) firewall tonight to see if it will work on FK23. It apparently has issues with some ICS/JB ROM's. That will at least give some protection from apps that don't need network access at all. But for apps that need network access to do their intended job it's useless. Just read last night that the developer has added profiles to +AF - that should be really cool.
I guess I'm spoiled a bit with Pdroid - it works so well and is very detailed.
Thanks for all the replies! Other suggestions, ideas, thoughts, opinions welcomed!

As an app developer, I can tell you that there are some shady apps, but if you download from good devs, the permissions are *usually* necessary. Here's some examples that people question the most:
Access to contacts... Assuming it's not a contact or sms app, if any app has a "share" feature needs this permission.
Access to sd card... Any app that saves anything or lets you change a background needs this.
Read phone state... So the app can properly call the "onpause" method when a call comes in.
Access to location... Assuming it's not a location app or game like ingress or zombies!Run!, you'll typically see this on free apps that have ads. Ads allow developers to get paid for their work while keeping the app free. They don't have access to the ad data, though. They just put in the api and the ad company handles the rest.
On top of that, large organizations will seek phone specific permissions like sim card numbers for analytics.
Google makes most of its money from ads, so it reads your usage to better target ads. Google also uses location data to improve location services like maps.
If you're worried about security, don't download a random app that only has 100+ downloads. If an app has 50000+ downloads, you can rest assured that it's already been vetted.
Also if you're downloading pirated apps, you're just a moron who is opening up his world to who knows who. Many (not all) pirated apps have added data mining code.

see this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1994169)
It works by removing package elements from user's package-restriction.xml file to add the app and adding the package element back to remove the app. (located at \data\system\users\10\package-restrictions.xml where 10 is the user's id)
This is quickly thrown together and will likely have a ton of bugs, but I wanted to go ahead and get it out there for testing.
- This is BETA
-You must have ROOT
- This changes system data on non documented files it could screw something up.
- I'm not responsible for any problems this causes or lost data or bricked or broken devices
- please use cation
- it is currently built to run on main user to enable or disable apps on secondary users (once root is fully working on secondary users I will see about making it run correctly on secondary user's account)
- not tested thoroughly with paid apps*
- does not currently support system apps**
- due to the way I pull the app list from the package manager some installed apps may not show as available to add/remove
- apps installed first on a secondary user's profile will probably not show in the list to add/remove
*paid apps seemed to work but I did not have internet access during testing. My theory is that any paid apps that use Google's license verification will not work or not work for long. So adding your Google Account to the secondary user's play store is probably still the best way to share paid apps.
**The entries in the xml for system apps is different. Therefore I will have to research them more before getting it to work or deciding not to mess with those apps. Currently some will show not installed on other users even though they are and removing/adding them will not work correctly.

I'd love to get feedback to what is working and what is not. Also if anybody figures out anything more about the package-restriction.xml file I'd love to hear it. Especially when it comes to system apps.
Thanks mate added my sons Google account and it is all running perfectly. Seperate saves and account details for apps and allowing me to share my paid ones with him
First review on play store is up.
Will have a mess around with apps and report back but it appears to be running sweet at the moment
Cheers danny...

I wanted to chime in as well. It is working on AOKP. Thanks again jeepguy04.
Looks like it's working for me too
Strange, I'm rooted. Using root apps such as cache mate, titanium & sixaxis.
Multi user app enabler says not rooted.
So does root checker??

On the first 'owner' account I'm rooted, but the second user account doesn't recognize root in apps shared through multi user app.

That is a known issue (if you want to call it that). For me it's not a problem as my second user is a guest just like on my computer.

I know, that's why I quoted the user I meant to answer
It wasn't meant as a negative comment, as I think this app is very useful.
I tried this with ten games and all worked fine (free and paid) except Retro Racing. It works with primary user but crashes with secondary user.

Do you think it is possible to have a shared folder for fotos and musik for multiple users?
some one post the apk my devices are not compatible lol
Great idea! My solution involves just buying everyone their own tablets.

Should work on any tablet running 4.2 (or phone if your custom rom enables the multiple user profiles)

Currently I only have it available in the market to tablets to avoid confusion for people wondering why it doesn't work with their phone. Maybe I will change that since only nexus devices or phones with custom roms are running 4.2. Those users tend to be a little smarter and know if their phone has multiple user profiles or not.
Here is a link to the apk for anybody that can't see it in the market.

The shared folder idea is interesting but beyond the scope of this app. Probably could do it with symlinks or something (not very knowledgeable in linux). Maybe I will look into it and either make another app or find a way to make it fit in with this app.
Yes. Symlinking the photos/music folders outside /data/ should work. But I don't have a 4.2 device(nor willing to set up an emulator) so I'm unsure.
Looking forward to trying on my p5113 CM 10.1

Google Play billing service is for accepting donations via in app purchase. Under settings anybody can donate if they feel the app has value to them... so far I've gotten two $1 donations...lol
network access is for connecting to internet for ads and also for ACRA (Application Crash Report for Android) it basically sends error reports to me to help fix errors. It can be disabled under settings if you do not want it reporting errors.
Does not populate menu on my Nexus 7.
The LP5523-controlled segmented LEDs on the rear of the Nextbit Robin are one of the device's most unique features. Yet they see very little use, being used only for effects relating to the now-defunct "Smart Storage" in the stock ROM and simply displaying a pattern during boot in custom ROMs. Nextlit rectifies this by employing these lights as a useful notification indicator.
DOWNLOAD
Nextlit allows you to preview the five patterns programmed into the LP5523 by Nextbit plus another five unique to the app, and select one to activate when a notification is received. You can configure patterns for individual apps, letting you identify which app requires your attention without needing to wake your phone. Nextlit exploits the potential of the segmented LEDs to encode greater meaning than can be expressed with the standard notification light and looks cool while doing it.
If you want to use the app for any more than simply previewing the available patterns you'll need to give its service notification access. The application does not read nor care about the contents of notifications; the only thing it does is count them. You can see the relevant routines here.
The app needs root access in order to access /sys but will work on any ROM. Nextlit has been featured on XDA and is free software, released under the Mozilla General Public License version 2.0.
To do
user-definable patterns
necessitates an assembler for the LP5523's instruction set
music visualisation
BCD clock
(optionally) disable lights while charging

The preview works but I can not enable it for notifications. The app force closes if I try. How do I give the app the correct permissions? There is no permission in the app settings, which I can assign.

Oh dear :s The app is meant to take you to the notification access settings when you first enable the service with the switch, does it crash before that? You can try giving it access by navigating to notification access yourself (For Nougat, Settings > Apps > cogwheel > Special access > Notification access). What ROM and Android version are you on?

I am using a personal build of AOSiP, Android 7.1.2
The app quits before the query. But thanks for the hint. I did not know this option yet. I already had logfile ready. But it works now. At least the message "Service started" came.
Thank you for your quick help.
Here is a logfile from matlog. This is my first logfile ever created. If you need something special, let me know. I would like to help provide useful information.
Now I have another problem. I hope I do not flood the thread. The LEDs do not stop flashing. Even if I turn off the service, the LEDs come back on with the screen off and keep dancing.
But I'm still very excited. Many thanks for your effort.
Thanks for the logcat. I actually realised what the error is just after my last post (stupid mistake, it'll happen whenever someone has no apps set up for notification access), and that is fixed. I will try to reproduce the service failing to stop, but it's working fine for me. I'll upload an updated apk, hopefully with fixes for both, later today. Don't worry about spamming the thread or anything, I can only fix things if people report them
OMG thanks for the effort, really really appreciate it. I hope other ROM devs see what you did and implement this in their ROM's. Props to you for working on the application, great work keep it up please.
New version (1.0.1) is up, with fixes for both issues. I've updated the download link in the OP. Because Android caches services, you should uninstall 1.0 before installing 1.0.1 for the fix to take effect.

Thanks for the update. Service starts and stops fine now. I look forward to future improvements to this app.
I'm glad it's working now. Thanks for all the words of encouragement everyone Has anyone confirmed everything working on stock, just so I can update the OP?

Working on stock 7.1.1.
How much is the battery drain?
That's great news! I'll update the OP.
Regarding battery drain, when I wrote that I was thinking about the service that listens for notifications requiring loads of wakelocks because I misunderstood the way that the NotificationListenerService works. Unlike a normal service, it actually runs constantly in the background and is managed by the Android system rather than the app itself (this was also the reason for the "service not stopping" bug that was fixed in 1.0.1). So I'll remove the lines about "minimising battery drain" in the OP, unless people report that the app is actually having an effect on their SoT. For the lights themselves, according to max_current, each LED can draw a maximum of 3.2 mA , so assuming negligible power consumption of the LP5523 itself, that's just 12.8 mAh, or just 0.5% of the Robin's total battery capacity per hour (assuming they're at 3.7 V) for all four at full brightness.
One thing that will actually reduce power consumption, though, is adding options to show only when the screen is off (you can't see the lights if you're using the phone after all!), and to only show patterns for notifications that would normally activate the "standard" notification light (so music players don't set it off, for example).
In other news, I have setting custom patterns fully working, but need some more time to document the process fully, and to come up with some nice ones to show off what the chip is capable of. The LP5523 can hold up to 96(!) instructions, but the kernel driver only supports up to 16, which is quite frustrating. I may be able to find a workaround for that by chaining multiple engines together, but that's something for later. In the future I'd also like to try to implement user-definable patterns, but that will take more time.
This project has been rather more popular than I expected, so now is a good time to ask everyone: what features do you want to see in the app?
App doesn't work
After installing and turning on notification access for the app force closes when trying to open it
Lights don't stop flashing
Great use for the leds. A few observations:
Using the app (1.0.1) for a couple of days now. The leds do not stop flashing after dismissing notifications.
Also, while there is no notification for the service stopped, it does stop on its own after a 3-4 hrs (Which is when the leds do not flash when receiving notifications) Haven't figured out what makes it stop yet.
I'm on LOS 14.1 (Android 7.1.2)

That's odd. The logic for handling a notification dismissal is as simple as counting the number of active notifications and turning the lights off if there aren't any, so I can't think why the lights would enable but not disable. It sounds obvious, but did you have any low priority persistent notifications active while testing? That's honestly the only thing I can think of.

This is definitely something I'm planning!
Seeing the app featured on the side panel was a great surprise today, but it keeps the pressure up to improve it
