Yeah, I accidentally put my phone in Odin mode once and just pressed the power button again to get out of it. What exactly is the method for getting the phone into Odin mode?

Volume down and power button at the same time

I just did the same thing. Power button + volume forum = odin mode. I was told you go into that mode when you want to push files from your pc to your phone.

Are you certain?
Take the battery out for a minute. Not just a quick second.
And try booting.
If that doesn't work...same method but while holding both volume buttons and power to see if you can access the bootloader.
If not...I don't know what happened.
If you can't access adb/fastboot...it looks like you'll have to use ODIN to factory reset the phone.

no i cant
You can still get to ddownload mode. Hold power + volume up and down and plug in USB cable quick. Once you're in download mode use Odin and flash to stock
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
how about download mode? Try to odin back to stock and start over.
i downloaded the stock files but cant figure out how to extract it and be able to get it on odin... sry im a newbie
i cant put it into download mode either
First put the files on the desktop so you can find it easily then open odin and go to PDA press it it will ask for a file go to the desktop and select the file. Next thing is shut your phone off take out the battery then replace it then plug the usb cable into the pc. After that then do as instructerd above hold down vol up and down and power and right away plug in the usb to the phone then follow the instructions on the screen. You should be in download mode. Once that is done your phone should register in odin you should see a yellow box with a com# then you are good to go. DO NOT CHECK ANYTHING IN ODIN ONLY WHAT I SAID ABOVE. make sure the file is there and press start let it do its thing it should take about 5 minutes or so depending on your pc. Good luck let me know how it goes

pull battery
Hold volume up, down, and power at the same time
when samsung logo appears, release only the power button and stay holding the volume buttons until CWM appears

Questions go in the Q&A section

T-Mobile Galaxy S3 won't boot after Odin-HELP

So I just flashed the stock image through Odin (used the USB cable that came with the phone) and it boots past the boot animation(the T-Mobile 4g one) and then just hangs on "SAMSUNG" and it's still glowing and so is the notification LED but it won't boot, it just stays there. Can someone point me in the right direction to get this thing going? Is this a brick? I don't know what is wrong with it.
I believe It is hanging on the kernel (panic.... not you, the phone). Have you tried booting into recovery and wiping cache? (volume up + home button during hard reset)
Edit: Also what are you flashing from (i.e. CM, AOKP, TW custom ROM)?
if you were on a custom rom prior to reverting to stock, you need to do a wipe in recovery

It took mine a very long time to boot after odin stock flash. But i dont think your screwed since it still powers on. Can you still get into download mode? Try to flash it again and see what happens.
Go into stock recovery and do a factory reset. Then reboot, that should do the trick.

I ran into this exact same issue. I tried flashing kernal and everything after I did odin. What I had to do in order for my phone to boot was boot into recovery and do a factory reset. Keep in mind this was stock recovery so everything on your sd card will be gone after the wipe.

Volume down + home screen + power button doesn't work for download mode? If you're screen is still powering on and showing the battery charging icon and samsung logo you haven't bricked your phone. I know on previous phones I have had that even though it showed nothing but a black screen odin still picked the phone up and was able to flash it.

No, Volume down+home screen+power button only produces the Samsung or the Battery symbol for about a second, goes away and nothing else after that but a black screen, ODIN does not see the phone as it is not powered on, hope that makes sense

Oh, Sh*t, I think I just bricked my phone - same thing happened. It now won't even allow me to boot. I took the battery out, unplugged the USB. Plugged the USB in and then put the battery back in. The LED light comes on for about 30 seconds and then goes off and stays OFF. I've tried POWER+UP/DOWN volume and HOME...still no avail.
The computer does recognize [the phone] when I plug it in by making a thumping sound and then it makes a few thumping sounds and then that's it.

S3 won't boot, load CWM, go into download mode...

Alright, so I have an i-747 (AT&T GS3) running AOKP Jellybean (8.28 build) with the KT747 kernel. I just tried to install Chainfire 3D using the automated installer, and when the phone rebooted, it stuck at the Samsung Galaxy S3 logo until I pulled battery. So I tried rebooting into CWM - same problem. And again with download mode. Even after pulling the battery for a good 5 minutes, nothing works. Am I bricked, or is there some fix for this?
If you can get into CWM your not bricked. If you haven't backed up your phone there is a good chance you will have to start fresh. Its always a wise decision to do a nandroid backup via cwm before doing anything major. Including installing chainfire.
Have you tried wipe/factory reset in CWM?

Yeah, I made a nandroid just this afternoon, but I can't actually boot into CWM at all. As in, I turn on the phone (power+home+volume up), it gets to the Galaxy S3 logo and just hangs there. If I could get into CWM (or download mode) this would be about a 10 minute fix, but I'm kind of out of luck here.
Huh. After another battery pull, it let me boot into download mode. I'm gonna try to reflash to stock and hope for the best.

Curious?
I know its technically "Solved" but does anyone have any idea why this is happening? I have a Verizon GS3 and it's happening to me. I try to boot and it vibrates once and doesn't turn on. Recovery does the same thing. But going into Download mode works. Odin back to stock as we speak but I'm just curious what went wrong. I just did a clean install of a rom, set it all up (working at the time), set it down for the night and woke up to it like this.

Same thing happned to me but your not bricked. You can get into bolth download and boot mode easy
Here is how you do it.
RECOVERY MODE
Unplug the USB cable.
Shut down the phone.
Hold down the 'HOME' + 'VOLUME UP' buttons and press the 'POWER' button for about 5 seconds to enter Recovery Mode.
[edit]Download Mode
Save that somewhere. Make sure do it right. I got stuck also and thought I couldn't get into recovery but I had to do it right (it hit recovery mode first try) I have learned that most people do it slightly wrong. Make sure follow directions
Download mode
Unplug the USB cable.
Shut down the phone.
Hold down the 'HOME' + 'VOLUME DOWN' buttons and press the 'POWER' button for about 2 seconds until a WARNING! Screen appears. Press the 'VOLUME UP' button to enter Download Mode.
To get out of Download Mode, simply press and hold the power button until the phone restarts
if helps hit thanks.
Just save that to a text file somewhere
I have also soft bricked when I deleted my rom once on accident. I dunno how I did it but I would get stuck at the TWRP screen. It wouldn't go to download or anything however when I plugged it into odin it saw it .... I even had a soft brick when screen went black from a bad boot animation and same thing.. and I had one bad soft brick where it took about 100 trys to get it into download mode (black screen) but odin detected it. I spent like 4 hours working on it.
I think
1. People don't follow directions correct (they do it a little wrong) which is enough if your phones messed up for it not to work.
when your phones normal it can get into recovery or download easy but when its sick you got to do it perfect.
2. I think something wrong with the phones (my s2 never had any issues in 2 years of owning it) S3 has tons of issues from usb, to bluetooth, to these soft bricks I have had)
3. Roms play a big part
4. I also think the way storage works in this new phone causes lots issues I dunno why just what I think
anyway Like I said now when I have a isssue I open text and read it and make sure I do it right and 95 percent of the time it was my fault I wasn't doing it right. K just my thoughts
when i try this on my verzion s3 it wont load back into the CWM after installed to finish rooting. it just goes back into the android system recovery. tried it about 10 times and nothing different

[Q] stuck in safe mode

I have sprint Galaxy s3 with jelly bean rooted. On new years eve I installed a 3rd party app from the market to see if I could get a hot spot. don't even remember the name of the app. I ran it and it locked my phone up. I pulled the battery and when it rebooted it was in safe mode. In safe mode I uninstalled the program but it did not help me at all. Any time I reboot it goes right to safe mode. I have tried several times to get to download mode and recovery mode and have not been able to reach either. The phone works fine in safe mode I could even do a factory reset and with no problem the phone resets and goes right back to safe mode when it boots up to the new factory set up. No 3rd party apps are seen and no download mode or recovery mode can be obtained in the usual ways we use to boot to them. I am stumped any ideas from anyone.
Try use kies!
Hi. You can try this method.
1- get or make a usb jig
0r
2- turn off your s2. Pull the batt out for 10 sec and press on button w/out inserting the batt.
After doing that, try to boot into download mode. Sometimes yhe phone need some rest, juat pull out the batt for 5-10min and retry. I suggest that you try to enter recovery mode before heading to download mode..

Yeah, i'm at a loss, was gonna say if you can get into DL mode, then could odin to sock. I'm not sure of any other way to get around it and force that puppy to boot back into normal land.
Try this.. Power off phone... Restart, once you see Samsung logo, Press the Menu capacitive button repeatedly. (read this is how to get into safemode) maybe it'll work to reboot you OUT of safe mode. (Note i'm just searching the web to see if i can find anything) And i did pull that for a i9300 International, but it may work for this one as well.. (just a shot)
Seen another with similar issue, Pull SD and battery for 10 min.. When rebooted, went back to normal. Again these are all shots in the dark..

You have the root, why not use it instead of sudo-randomly smashing keys *Grin* ? If you don't have a Terminal app install one of those, su to root (answer to allow root when Superuser/SuperSu asks you) then run "reboot recovery". When/If recovery comes up wipe Cache, Dalvik-Cache, fix permissions and so forth, then try to restart into the system and see if "Safe Mode" crap persist.
I had my phone come up in Safe Mode one time, can't remember what I played with to even trigger it though. If this doesn't work, you can use something like Rom Toolbox Pro, or another fun tool to wipe the caches while the phone is up in Safe Mode.

That is the one thing that has me questioning. The volume button seems to move freely however; I have tried volume button when booted up in safe mode and the volume down does not move. the volume up moved the volume control up. although when pressing vol. down when trying to go do download mode it boots to download warning screen. unless it is stuck on internally. I don't know, cause the button moves freely.
Mine was in safe mode once. All I did is reboot it and mine went away.

Thanks this d root is no longerdid help me make my decision . I am taking the phone to sprint store. by downloading and using keys it seems that the software does not cause my problem. I hooked up to kies and did a complete firmware upgrade. Although there is no upgrade it still reloaded jellybean. It did a complete restore though and root is no longer present. Super user is gone. But I still have the same safe mode issues. I am guessing that this is a hardware problem probably the volume key. I feel ok with taking it to sprint since root is gone. who knows maybe i'll get a new one. Thanks to all who helped I surely appreciate it.

Pull the battery. Reboot into stock recovery. Factory reset and reboot. You'll be fine. Happens all the time.

Volume up + power + home if you didn't know. Sorry should have specified. Some people don't know.

NOTHING.... none of the buttons work... nothing happens when I plug it into the computer, charger NOTHING.... just loops over and over.....pulling the battery does nothing.

Ok take a breather, stress makes this seem like a catastrophe.
Pull the battery. Put in the battery. It won't turn on after a battery pull until you turn it on, which is why it's recommended. Press and hold volume up + power and home at the same time when you feel the first rumble and see the Samsung logo let go of power and keep holding the other two buttons.
Its literally all about timing. Might take two or three tries.
Trust me there is no damage from a boot loop. I flashed back to stock this morning and had to do the same thing I'm explaining right now. Took me 3 tries and I've done this a hell of a lot of times.

Pull the battery. Replace. Immediately press Vol up + home + power in that order. Do not just press the power button first nor just by itself. Release just the power button as soon you get a vibrate
Different guy having the same problem with the same solution we are suggesting. Just timing.

then please tell me how.... and remember, its not just normal recovery loop.... Odin is actually flashing back to stock firmware and it is stuck in ODIN and it says "wiping Dalvik cache" ....so its not like its been already flashed back to stock and its just in boot loop.... Odin hasnt finished flashing it and its looping while still in Odin.....and as i said before...no matter what order i press the buttons or when i press them... it wont go intop recovery mode.... unless you know a different way... this will not work.

Just do this:
Hook up the phone without a battery... While holding only Home and Vol-Down insert the battery and continue to hold them... The USB will force it into Download mode while holding them and putting in the battery... Flash it with Odin...

You need to be in download mode to use odin, not recovery mode
Vol down instead of Vol up in button combo

Get ODIN here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1722686
The drivers here:
http://www.samsung.com/us/support/owners/product/SGH-I747MBAATT
A stock ROM for Rogers, Fido, whatever it was here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1968625
Put the .tar in the PDA slot, only auto-reboot checked, hit Start, when it's done it will be stuck at Samsung until you go into recovery and factory reset and wipe cache...
