Hi everyone !
i'm totaly new to the android phone thing
i would like to ask for your help , to get some answers for my questions
got the Desire today and found out that there are two version of the device out
one codenamed 8181 and the other 8183 i think ... is there any difference between the two ?
what does rooting the device mean ? is this the same thing as HardSpl for Winmobile devices ? or is it more like the iphone Jailbreaking ?
what are the things that a rooted device can do that not rooted can't ?
are all the Androids compatible ? ( for example if a version is released on a device can all the devices install it ? )
since i can;'t access android market, is there another place that i can get android games and software ?
does the OS have a File manager ?
can we have custom ringtone , or is it limited to the one in the ringtone menu of the Sense UI ?
THANKS IN ADVANCE EVERYONE !
OK here goes!
Rooting the device is basically removing the HTC restrictions on the rom and therefore you can install custom software on the handset.
I think the 8181 8183 thing is the version of handset. 8183 can only be used on certain networks in certain countries. I'm not 100% sure on that though!
A rooted device can use custom roms, you can use apps like titanium backup that will only work with rooted devices, you can install themes, and you can customise it till you hearts content. Within reason. You can install your apps on the SD card.
All android software is not compatible. You can not for example, install nexus one software on a desire. It can be ported over but this depends on the developers and if they want to do it. We have some superb devs at the minute who have ported the nexus one froyo roms. They are still a tiny bit buggy, but those bugs are literally being fixed one by one every day. I'm using a froyo port and it's perfect for me in everyday use.
Why can you not access the market?
You can download file managers in the market.
You can have custom ringtones and notification tones. If you search these forums you will see how to put them on.
Hopefully this has helped you a bit!
Thanks For Your hElp
Helped a Lot
i installed the rom XBmod HD7 V 1.01 Build 7720 every thing working perfect .. i was download htc hub from the market place then i restarted my phone now it says storage is curropted or smthing like that i reset the phone and now it shows 13.0 mb total storage and 0.0mb free plzz tell me what to do ..
Perhaps the Device Forum would be better, or
The ROM thread would be better than that.
But to post your problem in Windows Phone 7 Software Development? That's just crazy, I know you developed a problem with your WP7 software, but this isn't the right place.
Thread Closed.
I have the HTC One X with the Leedroid extreme 6.4.0
I installed it from scratch wiping the whole phone
When I launch some apps (like daily sudoku or mahjong)
it freezes the phone and restart it.
An idea ? help??
I didn't find on the leedroid website a link for support and exchange?
I moved your thread to the correct forum. You posted in the AT&T One X forum, but you have the International One X
try before u start the apps to clear the apps cache or settings that will start the app from scratch
So I've been messing with custom roms for a while I have flashed over 200 of them onto numerous phones. Because of XDA i have learned so so much about Roms and Android. I just learned how to S-OFF my old Htc Desire CDMA and I need help finding Roms that are good for the following:
Use This Checklist:
[]Stable
[]Wifi works (I have no cell data on it)
[]Camera Works(Don't Need Video)
[]Fast
[]No Sense UI(Optional)
Please don't suggest MIUI for no matter which phone or which build i have put on any phone it is always slow for me.
Also! could someone show me to a link or a how to extend the memory of the phone so I can install more than 300Mb of apps?
Hi there.
Here i have one HTC Bravo, but it has Cyanogen Mod. The problem with the device is that it has a little memory and can be used only as speak station - accept calls and dial another people. Even after i made a factory reset via settings the memory is still not enough.>>>
total memory 151mB
apps 60.96mB
available 67.31 mB
I found one guide but the first link is not working.
