Desire Not doing a thing - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Last month i rooted and S-off'd my friends desire, and i also installed the oxygen Rom onto it, but now i have no idea what the idiot has done or how to resolve it.
First of all, there is now no ROM installed in his phone.
Second, he has somehow unrooted the damn thing.
Third, it is now S-on again.
I have tried everything from searchin the internet to installing proper official ROM's on it and getting know where. Each ROM i try install will come back with the same 131 error, "Incorrect CID"
all i can do with the phone is load up the boot loader and get into fastboot, and it will recognize the
USB plugged in, clock work recovery is still in the phone and i can get into that, but i cant use the backup function or mount anything during to S-ON and it being unrooted,
Can anyone help please
Thanks

[Q] Unroot fail, cannot access recovery. fastboot loop

Hey guys,
I've search through many forums for someone with similiar problems but to no avail.
I had my EVO rooted with unrevoked 3. I needed to have my phone repaired at the sprint store and since a rooted phone constitutes a voided warranty, I attempted to UN-root. I followed the DROID DEMO 2-STEP UNROOT to the tee.
After attempting to flash the pc36img, It gave me the error of :Main version older
Tried to flash the stock ruu image, wouldn't work either. Someone told me to remove the s-on image on my sd card and replace with s-off. I did that and it let me flash the pc36img, went through all the ok's and after complete and reboot, it boots to fastboot only. Also, I cannot get into recovery(triangle screen).
I downloaded android sdk with the usb drivers so I could flash the unrevoked recovery image through adb. When I go to command prompt to enter adb, the device is not found. Im guessing because USB DEBUGGING has to be enabled on the device. Since I cannot get into recovery nor boot my OS, is there any other method of forcing usb debugging on the device?
Or, If there something else I could do to get my evo to boot normally?
Any help would be definitely appreciated(A LOT!!!)
Im not really an expert(i know, why did I play around with something im not familiar with) So please bare with me. Thanks in advance!!
You're nowhere near bricked. Quickest solution would be to push Amon_RA over fastboot, then flash the same version or older ROM as the 2-step solution so you can actually use it.
If for some reason that gives you trouble, you're still S-OFF so just grab a rooted PC36IMG.ZIP and let the bootloader flash that one. Then you can still push Amon_RA through the OS using the Rom Manager (the one for clockwork, but which lets you flash alternate/Amon_RA recovery).
EDIT: I think the 1st method (fastboot commands) might only work on hboot 0.76 which you are probably not on. Use the 2nd method (ROM Manager), more info here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=744918
Thanks for your help! I guess I had a bad version of pc36img, I re-downloaded another version and it worked perfectly.
Thanks again, bro

Help Unrooting HTC EVO - Very Odd Issue.

So, I have had my EVO rooted for a while now but it has recently developed a charging issue with the USB port. I want to take it into Sprint to have it looked at so I need it unrooted.
I used unrevoked to root it in the first place so I followed the instructions on their site to unroot. I hit and odd snag at that point. You are supposed to flash the s-on path in recovery, which worked fine, then reboot to HBOOT and let it install the PC36img file, which is where my problem first started. No matter how many times I tried it would not install that file. It kept saying it was older than the rom version I was running. From there I also tried multiple times to install from HTC Sync with offical RUUs which achieved the same result. Getting frustrated I put s-off back on and tried the pc36img once more with great success. It booted right into an older stock version of Android.
Here is where I'm currently at. I went back to HBOOT and tried to launch recovery and...oops...the custom recovery is gone and all that is left is the very stock 3 option one where the only thing I can flash is update.zip leaving me unable to enable s-on again so I can take it to the Sprint store.
I have tried rerooting again with unrevoked and it keeps failing to install custom recovery. Any ideas? Is there possibly an update.zip out there that would turn s-off to s-on?
Thanks.

[Q] Bricked?

I need the help of an expert!
I did the unrevoked root, which I misread (apparently) thinking that it did a backup of my current rom. Then I tried to flash pre-rooted stock 2.2 and upon reboot it's stuck at carrier screen (Alltel).
I decided to reload stock, but as I said I was apparently mistaken about unrevoked doing a backup.
Is the device bricked? Any rom I try to flash doesn't work. I can boot into recovery, i can mount usb, but that's it.
My ultimate goal would be to put rooted (or unrooted then root afterward) 2.2 on the phone. At this point I'd settle for 2.1 so the phone... works...
I aint no expert I'm afraid, but just a thought...
did you do a factory wipe/cache wipe/dalvick wipe before you flashed?
On my first attempt, I forgot and ended up stuck on the bootscreen.
I had a similar problem before, can't mount as usb, sd card does not work. You may want to try out the steps from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=691639 . This worked for me.
Thanks,
I did do a data wipe, cache and dalvik wipe prior to flashing. I've gone through the full process a couple of times including battery pulls after reboot and hang.
I have usb mount through recovery (whatever recovery unrevoked placed on it). I can access my sd card through usb, I just don't know how to get this phone back to stock. I would be happy with almost any daily use rom at this point...
If you want to go back to stock you need to look for the RUU (stock Rom) for your carrier.
If you search this forum there is a thread somewhere which lists all the new RUU's
here it is http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=695667
Here's some phone info (in case it helps)
BRAVOC DVT2 SHIP S-OFF
HBOOT-0.98.0000
MICROP-051e
TOUCH PANEL-SYNT0101
RADIO-2.05.10.00.11
If you find the correct RUU for your carrier then follow these instructions to revert back to stock
http://theunlockr.com/2010/06/07/how-to-unroot-the-htc-desire/
Thank you. Was not aware of RUU's for download, searching now.
Do you know if a Verizon RUU would work with Alltel? I only ask because I'm not finding the Alltel RUU... Perhaps my search terms could be better? I'm searching "Alltel Desire RUU"
Update-RUU
Ok, I found an RUU file, for my Alltel CDMA HTC Desire....
But it's exe? And the instructions I read tell me to plug my usb and (in the android interface) select "htc sync" for how it should connect. I don't have any UI, because I don't have an OS! Thoughts on how I could use this file or should I keep looking for a zip to flash?
When it says HTC Sync, it means the program you download from HTC. The one for syncing your phone. Go to the HTC site and you will find it on the download page.
Edit: Ah I see what you are saying! Not sure on what to do if you can't select HTC Sync on your phone. Maybe try running the RUU.exe and see what happens?? Sorry if this doesn't help
Just a thought, the ROM's you are trying to flash, they are for CDMA Bravo and not the UK ROM's ?
Yes CDMA Bravo
thanks though.
Maybe take a look at this thread. It tells you how to remove the ROM from the RUU so that you can put it on to your SD card and flash it from recovery. (at least I think that is what it does?
Edit: Sorry!!

I also read somewhere that if you put the phone into Fastboot , then connect to your PC and run the RUU.exe, it should work if you are S-OFF
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=842703
THAT SOUNDS AWESOME.. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! Would you post the link though?
Perfect! This extracting the ROM worked! Tried everything again with newer version of unrevoked (had one downloaded to hhd, idk why it didn't occur to me to check for updates). Now running Cyanogen 6.1
Now if I can just figure out how to get the auto-backlight adjustments to not be so dim most of the time...
Excellent, glad you got it working again
Once you've played with CM6, you should try CM7, its good enough for daily use. In fact I use the nightly's (this ROM flashing becomes a bit addictive after a while)

Unroot failed, now phone is stuck in Fastboot loop

Hi Guys, I posted this in Android Software and Hacking General, but I didn't get a reply. Probably the wrong section!
my HTC Desire GSM is stuck in Fastboot and won't boot into the ROM. The background to this issue is that I installed S-Off and then ClockworkMod and flashed Cyogenmod 7 to see if it would fix a reboot issue on the phone. The damn thing just reboots itself when the CPU is used heavily...
Anywho, after realising that Cyogen wouldn't resolve the issue I flashed the standard Virgin UK rom back over it and upgraded to 2.22.351.2 via the system update feature. The problem was that ClockwordMod was still installed and I had to get rid of it to sent the phone off for repair to Virgin!
So I did further research and found that I could flash HBoot via the AlphaRev.nl downgrader tool. I downloaded it and popped it into the root of my SD card and it flashed the bootloader back to Hboot 0.80.0000. That should have been it, but all of the sudden the phone no longer boots into the Rom. All it does is to power on and then go into Fastboot. That's it! When I try putting the standard Virgin Rom back onto the SD it tries to load it and then says "Main Version is older!" "Update Fail!".
How do I get around this now? The phone doesn't boot, so I can't re-flash S-Off and start again, not am I able to run the stock Virgin Rom within Windows because it complains about the versions.
Is there any ways around this situation? I just want to get the phone back to stock so I can send it to Virgin and get it repaired.
P.S. I *have* used the search function and spent the last 4 hours testing various things but I'm now stuck.
Cheers Guys!
Mich
Well you obviously fckd up with the Downgrader, you should have run it first BEFORE RUU. Also did you flashed Stock Hboot prior to Downgrader? (if you used CM7 earlier)
I never played around with the hboot downgrading etc. so i wont be able to help you but im sure there is some workaround...
as your returning your phone anyway why don't you try the official HTC gingerbread update from the HTC developer site (sorry I don't have a link). It should return your phone to stock and when you get it back you need to use revolutionary to get s-off back. Also, there is a sticky from user bortac which has loads of help and trouble shooting advice.

Any advice that uses the 2.3.3 RUU to fix something is plain bad advice - it can just make your problem a LOT worse.
@OP Go onto my guide, look at RUU problems for help
What you need to do:
-Make a goldcard (there is a tutorial there)
-Flash the WWE RUU
Guys, upgrading to Gingerbread has actually brought the phone back from the dead! =) And I can now return it to Virgin to get it repaired properly. The symptoms are that while the phone is plugged in and charging, and I'm doing stuff (taxing the CPU), the phone will eventually simply rebooting itself. Just *BANG*! And it's gone. And once it starts it's a bit of a run-away thing and just keeps on doing it until you leave the phone alone for a bit. Virgin had a look at it and simply re-flashed it, thinking that they could away with that. Typical, overworked, non-creative call centre workers..... I'm well pissed off with them!
Gonna send it back next week and force them to swap the motherboard or something, cause this is a serious fault with the phone.

Never got S-OFF and now I can't get get into recovery!

Ok here it is, My son Never go s-off and we somehow got a ROM to install, Magnolia_2_0_Final, this one. Now he had revolutionary on it and unlocked. The fun part is, now he can't get into recovery, it just goes to a white HTC screen. We have tried to relock the phone and go back, and tried to do all the tricks of the forums, we are still stuck. I would like for some detailed instructions on how we can get this back if at all. If you could help that would great. Thanks.
It will help if we had more detail on what you exactly have done and how you are doing it.
First with the phone on go to your settings. Look under "POWER" setting and disable fastboot.
Then I recommend pulling battery and reinsert battery. Hold volume down and power button to access hboot. The go to recovery through that.
If you have root access the down load Rom manager from market place and make sure you have recovery installed. If not download and flash from Rom manager. From the Rom manager app you can reboot into recovery.

Recovery
We we have got into recovery and all is ok. We have updated SU and Clockworks. We are running Magnolia 2.0 *Sense 3.5, Android 2.3.5, Tweaks*, S-ON. The weird part is I have no idea how we got the rom on without S-OFF, but here we are. Now we have tried to just install the PH32IMG file and have had no luck with that. No matter what we have tried, all we get to is a loop of the boot screen.
Wait, did you unlock via HTC Unlock first? Either way, unzip the ROM zip, pull the boot image from it and follow the instructions in guide 6 in my sig to flash it in fastboot.
HTC Unlock
Yes we have it unlocked though HTC Unlock and still S-ON with the ROM. Now we just need to either be able to go back and get S-OFF so we can move forward. The problem is if we try to flash the zip from CWM, it doesn't work.
So you're going to need to go to htcdev.com and relock your bootloader. Then, follow attn1's guide to downgrade to 2.3.3, then run revolutionary. You can find guides for all of this online.
Won't turn back on after I relock it
The phone stays at the HBOOT screen and wont reset so I can't use adb devices at all because it won't see that it is plugged in. what do I do?
Coming from 2.3.5
Oh and I'm also coming from 2.3.5 if that makes any difference
I think you're gonna have to go back to S-ON a diff way. There's a thread in the general section on how. Follow it and then revolutionary s-off.
All Ideas have FAILED so far

This is what I said to begin with. Now I thank anyone who could help in this situation. We can get into recovery, we have a rom with 2.3.5 sence 3.5, s-on, CWM, and we have tried all of the ideas so far. We need to know is there a better solution getting this phone back to stock and s-off.
