Just barely installed this ROM yesterday, and everything's great so far.
The only issue I'm having is that I also flashed the trickle charge kernel on top of the ROM, and now when I open my camera, all I see is a white screen. It will still technically take the picture, but I'm not able to see what I'm taking or focusing on. Not sure if it's a bug in the ROM itself, or specific to the kernel I flashed.
Any advice would be much appreciated. I've searched through Google and these forums, and have yet to find a solution that addresses my problem.
Thanks in advance!

Sbc Kernels only work on aosp roms and froyo. You have to flash a gingerbread kernel

Thanks for the quick response!
Do you happen to know if there are any Gingerbread kernels currently out that allow for the trickle charging as well?
If not, can you recommend any GB kernels that I could use to flash over the one I put on already to get everything back to working the way it should?
Thanks for your help!
Chopsuey, poonsense, freedom, golden monkey are all gingersense custom kernels none are SBC and some will be UV which is undervolted
Sorry to be a total pain, but you don't happen to have links to where I can download these by chance?
I would greatly appreciate it.
Check development thread they are all posted there I'm on my phone trying to cook and a bunch of other stuff all at once so no llinks right this second but Google the name + xda and they will pop up just loom for the threads starting with [kernel][sense] + name chopsuey or freedom or golden monkey are all on xda poonsense is in kernel manager app
Awesome! Thanks so much for your help!

I have the pershoot v1.2 running on euro DZ with stock sense since yesterday.
I can confirm : no issues whatsoever.
WiFi, bluetooth, FM-radio, GPS, Overclocking to > 1.5GHz all working perfect.
Are these kernels compatible with the US T-mobile G2 Stock ROM? Sorry i just need to clear it out of my way. thank you

I don't use Sense myself, but I think it's important that the Virtuous team is recognized for all THEIR hardwork. As humble as you are in your post, you & your team deserve recognition for your efforts too.
Your contributions are definitely not without merit and appreciated by many, many people. You guys are important in your own way for making the community (G2/DZ & beyond) what it is, so thank YOU for your hard work.
BlueTooth won't turn on for G2 Stock ROM with both Pershoot and Cyanogen Kernels
Thanks for the work though.

Hi.
Excuse my ignorance, but trying to find out how to update stock kernel to this.
Tried searching, but rather new to Android and there seems to be a lot of varuois advise.
Am I to understand that all I need to do is download for example the pershot kernel, put it on my SD and make a fastboot update? Since it contains a "boot.img"
Or is ADB involved?
Simply put, how would I upgrade my "old" stock kernel?
And before upgrading, how would I go ahead and backup my old. Nandroid?
Thanks for your time.
If your sig is current, then your first step should be to S-Off. Check one of the stickies.
Then the easiest way to go about updating the Kernel/doing a backup would be to grab Rom Manager off the Market and flashing ClockworkMod.
Thanks alot for the kernals everything works on desire z fine fm radio etc..
the only problem i am having is the phone freezes if i set the max fre over 1094 mhz on set cpu it allows over clocking to over 1400 mhz right? well i am a proper noob though so maybe i am doing something wrong? i need to change a setting perhaps? or maybe this kernal is not for overclocking ?
thanks
or maybe i am just unlucky and 1094 mhz is the max my phones cpu can handle since every cpu is unique?
Random black-screen on wake-up
Tried both 1.2 and 1.3, same problem.
The issue is: When I wake up my phone from sleeping( either using Power Button or D-Pad), I have random chance to get a black screen. It's special, unlike those "freeze black-screen", the "home,MENU,Back,Search" buttons below the screen light up normally, open the keyboard and the backlight will turn on too ,but not the screen, it just remain black.
When I press the PowerButton again, the screen light up for about 0.1s (I can see the lock screen) then back to sleep.
Sometimes I have to press the Powerbutton several times get the screen on. but sometimes it works just fine.
I have no problem with the "Unmodified kernel" from ROM Manager, but when using these two kernels, it happens again.
Is there any solution or similar case?
Just installed the CM kernel on my DZ with stock sense rom. Everything seems to work perfectly. Setcpu works great with it. I can OC to 1.5ghz with small steps.
What are the difference in between the kernels??
Using 1.3 atm and no problems at all whatsoever. However I would like to know the differences in between kernels. Does anyone know?
Thanks in advance

I can confirm this black screen on wake up as reported by jzhyok while I am test running right now the CM 1.3 kernel on my german DZ with unmodified Sense ROM, perm root, s-off.
I used setcpu with 1.5ghz and 1.2ghz with same results, just in case this could make a difference.
One more thing. My DZ instantly froze when I changed the governor from on demand to smartass in setcpu while I was at 1.5ghz with this CM 1.3 kernel, so I removed battery and now stay with the on demand governor.
Any fix for this anoying black screen wake up problem and any hint for the smartass governor? Which governor would be better, on demand or smartass?

ok Per the "noob video" i called my mom and told her that she wasnt lying to me when she told me i was not special, but I do have a problem with this kernal let me explain
1. Which kernel build(s) (ie; bfs/cfs havs/nohavs etc) are you using with the issue?
2. What Rom are you using?
3. If known, what OTA base is your rom using (ie; is it based on 3.29, 3.30, 3.70, etc)?
4. Does the issue persist if you go back to a stable kernel build?
5. The issue being experienced (obviously ;D)
1. netarchy-toastmod-cfs-havs-nosbc-universal 4.3.1
2. Cyanogen 7
3. unknown
4. cant get back to a stable kernel
5. I am seeing pixilated lines on key pressed and slides. What I mean is when I press an icon or slide my phone or look at my battery charging it will distort a minor annoyance. Also my usb connection is no longer working it will not let me toggle between charge and disk drive
Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't netarchy a kernel for a sense rom and not an aosp?
Edit - just double checked, its for a sense based rom only..
If using cm7, I would suggest tiamat or savaged zen..
you cant use that kernel with CM7. flash tiamat 4.0.5 or any other AOSP kernel. NA kernels are for sense ROMS only.
Your mom did tell you correctly because this did not belong in the dev section.
That kernel is for sense not aosp.
Use tiamat or Savaged zen or "God mode"
OH WOW Guess that is why lol. I thought I read it to say it was usable by many roms. So just flash the stock kernel and use one of the ones echarette1, and mattykinsx posted. Thanks you 2 for telling me that i messed that up.
And alaman68 I thought since it was related to that kernel I coul have posted in that kernels thread. Guessed wrong.

Oh no trust me I would not have started a brand new thread I would have tacked it on to the thread that contains the kernel and the information. I am not a forums noob and know that much. And I did not take your letting me know as a "better than you" context, but just wanted to tell why I thought posting in that thread would have been better. Nothing mean intended by you or me just helping in how to keep the board clean you were.
Now on to another question. Currently my Evo is giving me a battery life of ~5 hours before I hit ~15% and being in a job where I am constantly using my phone I can not afford to be attached to a charger for 3 hours a day. I was told by a friend that using kernels will help with battery life. If this is the case out of the ones I was told to use what would be better in terms of extending the life of my daily battery, if that is something they can in fact do?
If you're running CM7, use the Tiamat or SavagedZen kernel, hit the link in my signature for some good tips on battery conditioning and links to better battery guides.
Thank you to everyone who helped me figure out what I did wrong and thank you HipKat for that link going to read it now
I just rooted my phone today and now no idea what I am doing. I checked out the Cyanogen ROM and would like to get it on my phone, however I do not know where to get it or where to begin with this. I checked out a lot of the forums here to find a answer and google and was unsuccessful. I come to you for assistance in learning this process, in hopes to understand, learn and figure all this out!
My questions are : How do you install Roms? What is Rom Manager for and how do I get it working with my phone CORRECTLY? What else do I need to install and get on my phone to fiddle with Roms or any other cool stuff in the future?
I want to be able to have my phone setup to ultimately do anything that a rooted phone can do. Please help!
Ok...well..if you haven't already, hit the DEV section two doors down. Also one of the best pieces of advice I can give is to search out " qbking77" in there and on youtube. He is the hands down "King" at how to vids for not only this phone but many others. Just add "Epic4g" to any search with his handle and you're on your way!...ENJOY and see you on the darkside!!
ALL HAIL THE QBKING!!
well i figured out how to change the ROM's! i am curious what some good ROM's are. I tried out CM7 and i would rather not use it because of the nature of the no 4g and other things that dont work on it. If anyone knows of any good ones with a cool UI please let me know!
and yes i checked out qbking77 and hes is AMAZING!! his videos helped me figure out how to change the roms!
Syndicate frozen rom 1.2 with genocide 2.0 kernel. Flash the rom then the kernel.
All ROMs are good and all have different features. If you make a specific list of what you want maybe someone can help you. Otherwise go into Development and read the OP on each of the ROMs for what features they have. When you find one you like, then read the entire thread to see what kind of problems you can expect.
If u want clean stable rom go with bonsai 4.0.1 with the aio mod, if you would like it just let ne know on this thread and ill give u a link for it and a link for the specific all in one mod, it is a froyo rom but it is stable and mu favorite rom as I never have issues with it

Cm7 is da bomb diggity!
Runner up is miui!
Both are in alpha and beta states [near perfect but cool enough to be daily drivers]
Run an acs if you're not ready to go off the chains!
I prefered stock just cause it runs hardcored but if you run it make sure you stay as close to stock as possible and just get updated kernels to stay afloat til you're really ready to backup and try others!
Flash On!

SFR 1.2 with Genocide 2.0 is good I used it for awhile until the 10/22 release of CM7 which I'm now using. I don't have 4g in my area so no loss there for me. Everything else I use my device for it works great with so I've not needed to go back to SFR.
would there be any specific reason why the battery seems to drain super fast with SRF 1.2 / Nuberl kernal?
Could be the kernel or some specific setting related to it. I'm not familiar with each kernel. So I'm going to make some guesses and say perhaps O/C overvolting, CPU governor not optimal choice, can't think of anything else from the kernel. If you switched ROMs you are probably going to want to fully charge and then boot into recovery and delete the battery stats or use battery calibrator (by marosige is the one I installed) to do it when the battery reaches 100%.
Flashed the ROM from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1492461 which uses a 3.0 kernel. It runs smooth on my device. However, if I use my phone to listen to music, my battery drains very fast (about 40%/h) although I'm not doing anything else with the device. It also gets quite warm as if it had a high CPU load. However, the CPU load is low as you'd expect. The CPU clock is also OK, most of the time it runs at 245Mhz.
I then downloaded the very same RO with a 2.6 kernel. This time, battery was good when listening to music (1%/15m) and the device stays at a normal temperature so I assume there is a problem with the 3.0 kernel. Did anybody else also encounter this? What can I do to help debugging this problem?
Personally I'd suggest to move over to a similar but better/more stable ROM. Two that come to mind are mimicry and elitemod ICS, both are great and have far less bugs than the ROM you are using. But to each there own... I'd suggest contacting the developer, either within the thread or via pm and ask him why he implemented the 3.0 kernel when it is just far to buggy to use as a daily driver? I'm not hating on him just seems as it was put in his ROM and well... not supported much thereafter.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda premium
The 3.0 kernel isn't as stable as 2.6. If the battery drain issue is that bad then I would suggest moving onto a rom that still uses 2.6. Or if you feel lucky, go test out Andromadus JB which also has the 3.0 kernel. It might be better there. Considering you're testing this with a music app, why not try another application? Try changing the overclock settings. The unofficial CM9.1 and Andromadus are mostly in testing right now. You'd have to be willing to deal with these problems if you use those roms, and report the bugs to the authors.
I would suggest using Mimicry. It may not have all the new bells and whistles like 3.0 kernel, but at least it's stable.
For the record, the 2.6 kernel that Mimicry uses has a *ton* of 3.0 kernel patches merged into it.

Thanks for the replies! Forgot to mention that I first also blamed the audio player (Apollo) and changed to the app I used with the stock ROM but the battery drain was just as bad. So: sorry Apollo
My intention was to help the author of the ROM to track down that issue. But since I'm new to these forums I wasn't allow to reply to the original thread so I wanted to ask first if this is a known general issue of the 3.0 kernel. I'll PM the author and point him to the thread. If anybody knows a good thread on debugging battery drain issues or knows how to do this, please feel free to post links here, I'll also search further.

Hi all,
I've scoured the forum for quite some time now and have tried a number of newish ROMs (those posted in May) but have not found any that are compatible with Ktoonsez's latest kernel. A lot of people have advised against overclocking but my GS3 certainly performs better with OC enabled. I flashed one of Jamison's nightlies months ago and it has been the most stable/reliable out of any ROM I've tested since. I either got lucky and found the perfect ROM for my phone or I just haven't found a solid new ROM that supports OC'ing. I've had random reboots, force closes, etc. with all the new ROMs I've tried so I was hoping someone could give me some ideas on a ROM/kernel combination that might work for me. The only reason I even want to change my current ROM is because many of my Google apps report that an update is available, but when I go to update, my "device doesn't support this version." It's quite frustrating and a pretty sad reason to switch ROMs when literally EVERYTHING else works flawlessly, but it is a problem for me and I'd like to be able to stay up to date. Sorry for the long post, but anyone with advice would be wonderful. Thanks!
You need a kernel that support OC, its not ROM specific.. You do however, need to check kernel's description to which base it works with.. Sometimes they will have one for just touchwiz or touchwiz and aosp, thats pretty much the main thing to look for and just try different ones.. It should also say if its OC able or not
