[Q] Rooting Arc 2.3.4 - Xperia Arc Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi there, First I apologize if this thread is already created elsewhere, either I couldn't find it or most of them contain fragmented answer to my question. And I just wanted to be sure, so I won't get 0% battery life, as I fear I might bricked my Arc as I did previously with my Acer Liquid with no way to recover.
My Arc, LT15i, Stock 2.3.4, Build .42
Q1:How do you get zero % battery life(so I can avoid)
Q2: With the latest Zerg Recovery I can root my Arc right from 2.3.4 correct?
Q3:Once it's rooted, Can I downgrade to 2.3.2 and 2.3.3 for lower custom roms?
Q4: Do you need specific build for specific rom and vice versa?
Basicly I wanna install 1 of this rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1213888

A1: You get it if you flash older version of android on phone then using one (2.3.4 -> 2.3.2)...Someone says you can flash 2.3.3 without problem but i would reccomend to flash 2.3.4
A2: Yes you can
A3: 2.3.2 will brick your phone DEFINITLY...2.3.3 might work
A4: if yes, creator will say what you need to do for working ROM (kernel, baseband, build etc)

[Q] Downgrade from ICS without battery issue

Hi there,
Before you say it I did search but didn't find what I wanted
I have the LT15i with ICS on it and I want to downgrade to 2.3 because I am sending it in to Sony to get the crack repaired.
But I am worried that I will flash the wrong firmware on it (an earlier one) which will cause the 0% battery issue..
could someone post the link to a suitable generic .tft file that I can flash to get me 2.3 without the battery problem
cheers
Okay so I am going to probably flash 4.0.2.A.0.42 so I can retain root, can someone just confirm if this is a safe file to flash and wont give me the 0% battery notice? I assume it is fine as its 2.3.4 but just a confirm would be great
I went ahead and all is good
You will not get this issue, it is caused by the downgrade to 2.3.2. The 4.0.2.A.0.42 is 2.3.4. So, you can flash this firware without risk.

Simple question - OTA upgrade

This will probably be really easy to answer:
I've just downgraded my friend's Arc from .62 to .42 standard ROM, and rooted it.
I read that I could then OTA upgrade back to .62 and keep root. OTA upgrade with sim card inserted tells me I have the latest software.
PC Companion is offering me 4.1.B.0.431, which is ICS - correct?
Is there any way I can upgrade this phone back to .62 GB, whilst keeping root? Can I flash a .62 ROM with Flashtools, or will that lose my root?
Any other suggestions?
If this isn't possible, then can someone tell me the positives and negatives of going to ICS on this phone, vs .42?
It's not mine, and I don't want to give back a phone with any (worse!) bugs than it already has. Also I don't want to unlock the bootloader. The reason for the root in the first place is purely because the owner wants rid of the camera sounds. The ROM it had before did not have the option to turn off the shutter sound.
Ah, don't worry - the phone has offered me 4.0.2.A.0.62 OTA now, problem solved!
Incidentally, I just want to get my facts straight - if I now delete some bloatware, that means that if this phone (rooted, but locked bootloader) ever needs to be updated again (to ICS), then it will have to be done by flashing a clean .ftf rather updating OTA/via PC Companion. Is this correct?
If my friend inadvertently tried to update it herself then the update would just fail - it wouldn't brick, since it still has a locked bootloader - correct?
btw its not .62 ROM its a firmware on GB... flashing .62 on flashtool will make you lose your root so you have to do an OTA update on your phone to .62
.62 and .42 are practically the same, on the other hand upgrading to ICS is not any better... scrolling is laggy, the OS itself is not smooth (ICS) unless you wanna use MooDeD 90.5 on your phone
which is fast and not laggy and this ROM doesnt require a unlocked bootloader because its based on stock ICS

Well if you have a locked bootloader and no custom ROM flashed on your phone, you can use PCC to upgrade to ICS but i always flash through flashtool
Once you have got root suggest you install cwm and do. A complete backup before removing any bloatware.
This way if something goes wrong you have a clean system to go Back to.

problem upgrade firmware xperia arc

hi,
I got myself a sony ericsson xperia arc s
bought it in a store, doesnt belong to any carrier (I live in israel)
I tried upgrading to LT18i_4.1.A.0.562_NCB build,
but during the flashing process it gave me an error...
ERR_SEVERITY="MAJOR";ERR_CLASS="MEMORY_CLASS";ERR_STATIC="HASH_VER";ERR_DYNAMIC="Final data verification failed
the installation didnt go through and when i tried turning on the phone it showed the "SONY" logo, and then a symbol of a triange and "!" and a symbol of a phone - then shuts down.
I tried to flash it again but nothing helped,
eventualy I downloaded LT18a arc s_2.3.4, 4.0.2.A.0.42_Generic USA Build
and flashed it, everything works "like a charm"
but I want to put ICS on it.... any suggestions? anything I could have done wrong?
B.T.W
in the "about phone" my model number is lt18a, and on the back of the phone its written lt18i
so which one is it?
the in advance, I realy hope its the right forum....
seems like u have older version of flashtools...to flash ICS, use the latest flashtools. older version cant flash ICS..and make sure data verification is unchecked..
and it really doesn't matter if it says lt18a or 18i...maybe u flashed lt18a firmware...u need to flash lt18i firmware...
it was clearly mentioned when .562 came out officially, that final verification should be unchecked....while flashing thru flashtool (a version below v.8)
so anyone else?
the two of you gave me 2 different answers,
I didnt use an older version of Flashtool, im using the latest 0.9
any other suggestions? I just dont want to mess up the phone...
why dont you try the latest 4.0.4 firmware?
do you think it will work? im afraid it would give me that weird screen again and I wont be able to turn on the phone again,
if im currently on a 2.3.4 usa generic, can flash the latest cm7? or jjhybrid aswell? or do i need to be on 4.0.4 build before i do it?
ok, so I downloaded LT18i_4.1.B.0.431_(1254-2184)
if i understand correctly its the latest 4.0.4 for xperia divices
my device SI is (1254-1958)
Im currently using (2.3.4, 4.0.2.A.0.42_Generic USA)
My device is rooted thx to DooMLoRD's rooting tool, and of cource its bootloader is unlocked.
so in anyones opinion, can I just flash the generic rom thats listed above?
pls answer,
thnks
yea man..u can flash any .431 firmware...use the latest firmware with data verification unchecked
Ok, good news!
Managed to flash the latest FW! Am currently on 4.0.4
Everything is smooth! Battery life seems to be a bit better but only time will tell...
Anyway thx for every reply!

Only some quick questions before "formatting" my Xperia Play

Hi there.
I have a stock ROM .042, and I want to re-flash a it (or a newer stock ROM that can be rooted) to solve some problems I'm having with my Xperia Play (R800i, from Spain). I once flashed the official ROM I have, so I know it's not difficult, but I need help to refresh my memory and to solve some quick doubts:
- What is the newest ROM for my R800i that can be rooted? I thought it was the .042, but I read of somebody with the .058 rooted (wich I think is newer than .042). Where can I download this newer ROM (I already have the .042)?
- In this time I suppose that have appeared new tools to flash our Xplays. What's the best way to flash my Xplay? I would apreciate a link to a tutorial please.
- After that, what's the best way to root the Xplay?
- How can I save all the SMS i have on the phone? I have important and personal conversations I don't want to get lost.
- Any advice you can give me before flashing?

If you bootloader is unlocked, you can flash a custom kernel and have root on any ROM. I'm currently on the .069 version and everything is working fine.

You can either use the ADB tool that comes with the Android SDK, or use Flashtool (http://androxyde.github.com/)
- After that, what's the best way to root the Xplay?
If you install a custom kernel, it will automatically root your ROM (I suggest using DooMLord's kernel: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1176502)
- How can I save all the SMS i have on the phone? I have important and personal conversations I don't want to get lost.
Just search for "SMS backup" in the Play Store, and you should find a number of apps that do the job.
- Any advice you can give me before flashing?
Don't unplug your device during transfer

[Q] How to upgrade from GB back to ICS? (Emma flashtool)

Hey guys, I searched all over the net and xda forums and found lots of similar threads but I still don't know what exactly to do.
So I have Arc S (LT18i) and my phone upgraded by itself from Gingerbread to ICS stock 4.0.4 some time ago.
Today when using Emma I accidentally downgraded to stock GB 2.3.4 and now I don't know how to upgrade back to stock ICS I had before. I tried with Sony Companion because it detected new software (4.1.B.0.587) but it said it couldn't.
I actually wanted to install custom rom CyanogenMod 10.2. but I bumped into lots of things..and I ended up with downgraded version on my phone. I rooted it again and now don't know what to do.
Bootloader: unlocked
Rooted phone
Build number: 4.0.2.A.0.62
Kernel: 2.6.32.9-perf [email protected] #1
How can I upgrade back to stock ICS or if there is a way I can simply install custom rom (tho I'm a big noob and a bit scared of it)?
Please help if anyone has any links or anything that could help, thanks in advance.
Flash stock ics ftf using flashtool

Sent from my Xperia Neo V using Tapatalk 2
Okay so I'm singing right now like a little kid! I found out I couldn't update through Sony Companion because I had unlocked bootloader so I locked it back (flashtool) and upgraded with Companion and right now Im running on 4.0.4 ICS!
Yesterday I tried flashing stock ics but there was an error and couldn't flash it properly so I was really worried.
Thanks anyway for the answer!
if you say us the error maybe we can help you
and why you want to flash stock ics when you are running it?
You can look at *#*#SEVICE#*#* in dialer then you go to service and configuration. there is standing bootloader unlock allowed: yes i think because you are unlocked it some day ago..
i rate you down for unlocking your bootloader because you cannot run OTA and you loose your warranty.
and you can boot into fastboot so you are able to flash kernels, what means you can run all roms except some roms like cm or miui !
so flash a kernel and run a rom what you want.
If you tell us the problem, i think we can solve it
Yours,
Slimey!
