Hi I am running a froyo mod and have been for a while now.
How can I get the official ota update for froyo?
Or am I just as well off sticking with the mod I am running .... I'm not sure what benefits the official release has over the current mod I am using
Thanks for any help here

Well if you install the official, you will lose root and who knows when you will be able to gain that back.
Personally I see no point in getting the official as these mods are cleaner, faster, tweaked and well supported for.

If you really do want to get the official OTA update you'll have to flash back to an HTC ROM and then update.
There are already quite a lot of ROMs available in the development section which are based on this weekend's update which won't mess with your root.
I installed one which is close to the stock ROM but with root access and busybox. It's perfect for me and I still have root.

Dear experts in xda,
I got am Asia (Chinese) 2.1 Non-root stock Desire for myself, I thinking not waiting for the official release for Asia and try some Europe roms out here. but I'm afraid that I might need to come back to the stock Chinese rom sometimes, yet I can't find any on the web (some are testing versons).
I want to know how could I make myself something like an RUU or anything to back up my current un-rooted stock rom? so that I could make sure I can come back to my Chinese rom.
thank you so much

You can also do a nandroid backup. Root (use unrevoked3, fast and safe), then install ROM Manager from the market. Run it and tap the "Backup Current ROM" entry. Enter the name for your backup, allow ROM Manager to use su. Your device will reboot into recovery and make a complete backup of all your data (the ROM, apps, etc.). You can always restore it from recovery or ROM Manager.

It sounds cool, I'll give it a try when I have time, but in case I wanna upgrade to Official ASIA CHT 2.2 verson when it rolls out, could I unroot using unrevoked3 as well?

thx
thx guys for helping out. but 1 last simple question,
is there no way to backup my stock rom WITHOUT rooting or flashing custom roms?
Guys, I have finally rooted with Unrevoked 3, but I found App2Ssd is more complicated than I think, plus I heard that 2.2 for Asia has already rolling out,
Assuming I can't find my current ROM on the web,how could I unroot without my current RUU?

Hi all I have a desire de branded from orange running latest HTC rom. I was wondering if there is anyone in the colchester area who would be willing to help me flash a new sense Rom I have read a few guides about changing SD card and all and sounds to confusing so any personal help would be much appreciated. Or a really dumbed sown guide with links to every thing I need thanks all

When you say 'new' Sense I take it you mean one of the HD ROMs? This is the only way to get Sense 2.0 at present
Yes I did mean the dhd Rom just wanted to see what it is like ,
Also if I root with unrevoked will I loose my set up or does it back that up in the process

Rooting doesn't change anything except to give you root access and flash a custom recovery. The phone will still run exactly as before. You can back up the ROM before flashing by doing a Nandroid backup. Then you can flash a custom ROM but for instructions on that either read the ROM thread or search for threads on flashing a new ROM as it's not the place to do it here
well i was planning to root my desire z for this Virtuous Affinity v1.48.0 rom, looks cool =D.But if the future ota come out,can i just flash the ota rom (OTA_Vision_Gingerbread_S_HTC_WWE_2.42.405.2-1.82.405.1_R_release_199251k3r3wb3a4l4wniec) to remove root and receive future ota updates?i know its stupid question..but im puzzled can someone tell me how to get official update if i have gotten root and custom rom? thanks

If you're running a custom ROM you won't receive the OTA notification but you could always just download it manually.

The ROM needs to have the updater apk stripped out for it not to work afaik?

Means if I'm using affinity I wont receive ota update,I know. What I means was can I just flash that official Rom with clockwork mod?after flashing back to official Rom I know I lost root and s on back. So will it receive ota notification if I flash the official Rom? I'm abit confuse >< srry I'm bad in this...
it´s not that easy to return to stock... the best thing you can do is follow the wiki for rooting. the wiki also descripes a way to return to stock (means reinstall official recovery, s-on and remove superCID)
here is the link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=HTC_Vision
and if you are waiting for a update to 4.0 ICS you better stay rooted and use customs roms
EDIT: in my country updates are recieved through carrier, so i think it´s important to have the original carrier firmware and CID to recieve ota updates

Thx a lot hoffmas!=) well, how can you be so sure desire z would get ics? And if I flash virtuous affinity v1.4.6,then I want to update it to version 1.4.8. Do I have to factory reset and wipe everything in order to update to v1.4.8? I can use the virtuous unity v9 kernel right?? I know its stupid question..hope someone can help me with it =/
the desire z will probably get a update to ics and if so you will see a thread on xda with the stock rom to flash without loosing root but for sure cyanogen is going to be faster
wiping is always a good idea. best thing is to use superwipe and the wipe options in the recovery (system/data/cache)
here is a link for the superwipe (flash it through recovery):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1044992
you can use unity v9 (flash it after first time booting), but unity v10 kernel is included in virtuous affinity 1.48
pls use the thanks button if my posting helped you

Thx, but the unroot part is so complicated, instead of using that wiki, can I use this guide?
http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile/how-to-unroot-t-mobile-g2-htc-desire-z-complete-guide/
Sure there are different ways to return to stock, but i only post links to guides i used myself (so i know they work)
So maybe someone else knows, if the guide you posted works...
Actually the wiki looks complicated, but it isn't. It's a step by step guide and what is most important: it is a safe way

About the super wipe,I should flash those 3 zip once I have root on stock rom?
No, you have to choose one .zip and flash it through recovery after you rooted an installed a custom recovery....
So if you want to install virtuous affinity use superwipe before flashing affinity (after using superwipe you have to install a new rom, because the old one is gone)
You are sure you know what you are doing? Do some researching before you start to root your device... Rooting means you can brick your phone.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1169004 can i just flash the 1st ota rom (only root and busybox added)? then check for future ota updates?
i don´t think you will recieve future ota updates using this rom... but roms like that one are the reason for me to say, that there is no point once you are rooted to wait for ota updates
official updates do come from your carrier and so its important to have the original CID and carrier firmware, as i mentioned already.
another hit on the thanks button would be appreciated
I know wat do know what root means,I rooted wildfire and flash custom Rom before..but I don't plan to reverse back to stock since I already know they will be no future update..but for my desire z..is just that I'm impatient of waiting the ota...so maybe have a try on affinity, but I can't flash the official ota Rom (2.3.3 and sense 2.1) to return everything stock right? I know..kinda dumb of me,forgive me on my stupidity >~<
no i don´t think so... but maybe i am wrong. As i returned to stock for warranty, i did everything as written in the wiki guide and because i didn´t find the original vodafone firmware i did not recieve ota updates (even with original recovery, simlock and CID restore)
but i´m not a dev... maybe i´m completly wrong
If I'm grasping this correctly, you are worried that you won't receive OTA after rooting and flashing? I'm curious as to what OTA you are waiting for and what it has that other ROMs don't? (Honest question, I think the Z's had a few more updates than G2)
Not knowing aside, i'd say root it, flash what you want, and only return to stock if needed for warranty. Chances are you're going to find more support from the community here than with the manufacturer.

Exactly! Well, wat I'm worrying was after I root and flashed then, the official ota (maybe sense 3.0) roll out then I will be stuck at root =/ I knw root I can do a lot of stuff..but idk y my mind just like stock =/ if the sense 3.0 of the future update can have horizontal home screen I will get it..
I don't know truthfully. My guess is that any update that WOULD come out would then immediately be ripped apart by the community and made better anyways. There are already quite a few ROMs with Sense 2.1/3.0 features, 3.5, etc, and ports from other phones that support landscape mode (a mt4g ROM if I recall).
You can always return to stock, though I don't think you'd ever want to. ;-)

Can someone tell me how to root an HTC One VX. I have been all over the Internet looking and have found several sites but the issue is that the root package file does not download. When clicking on the root package it goes to a website and then it does not display anything because the page times out. Does anyone have the root package?

htc dev unlock, then you can do fastboot flash recovery (custom recovery) once got custom recovery you can either flash JMZ custom rom, JB rom, or Flash the SU.zip and keep it stock with root
