[Q] Unlock code after each wipe - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Hello,
I have a locked galaxy nexus and I enterded the unlock code to use it with another network. The problem is after each wipe (reinstall of rom), the phones asks for the unlock code again.
Is it normal. Is there a way to unlock the phone without having to unlock it after each wipe?
Thanks for your help.

It's not normal in the sense that every other phone remembers it's been unlocked, but it's normal in the sense that mine (and probably everyone else's GN) does the same.

ok thanks but if there is a way to avoid this, I'll be happy
(just for info, where are you from)

My desire used to do this as well.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk

interesting, I had a desire but it was sim-free so I never noticed
I'm from spain and I got my nexus from vodafone.

do you mean the net lock? I pay money for unlock it

yes I talk about the code I bought on the net.
So there isn t any way to make this code permanent?

Maybe it's a good thing because you loose the warranty by unlocking.

as the unlock code has been provided by my network operator, no, I don't loose waranty. I am talking about simlock, not bootloader lock.

Mine was not provided by the network operator...

I never experienced this on my HTC HD2 but My Galaxy Nexus does it as well but not every time. It definitely does it every time I change the radio. I have stuck the code on the inside of the back cover.
I have a GSM model that I got from O2 on contract and the sim unlock code was provided by them.

Where did you buy the Code (www.???
Hi,

There is currently no 'free' way of sim unlocking your device if you hang around long enough someone may write a program to do it but you may be waiting a while. Quite a few members have stated the unlock code can be obtained over ebay within 2 hours for around £9 which is a good price. You could also contact your carrier and tell them you want to take your phone abroad and use a different sim card in it while you are away to save costs. Sometimes they will unlock it for free.

got mine unlocked from o2 for free, filled in a form on their site and they emailed me the unlock code
just bought a SIM unlock code from here for £5
instant delivery, works perfectly. awesome
a warning about sim unlock: I got my nexus today from vodafone spain and as expected it was locked. I got an unlock code from ebay and it worked like a charm.
But, I like to play with new phones first, then restore defaults and set everything up the way I want it. The thing is, the galaxy nexus doesn't remember the network unlock code between factory resets, at least mine doesn't (yakju, came with ITL41F).
The codes work, but you may need yours again, so don't throw the number away
any code for three? im waiting the three to give me the code, about 2 weeks now
Hello Mark, is the Samsung Galaxy Nexus an universal phone? Can I use the unlocked version with LTE carriers in the future? I am in US and Verizon is the only LTE carrier I was wondering about using T-Mobile (HSPS technology) or wait for Sprint (my current carrier). I live in USA but I am thinking about moving to Japan so I wonder if I should just wait and maybe I will need to get one in Japan with one of their carriers... Also I love the forums and it is all great, but is there an IRC room for this questions as well?
Thank you in advance,

The GSM version can be purchased unlocked and used on any GSM carrier with their supplied SIM card. The GSM frequencies are listed for the Galaxy Nexus and they cover the majority of GSM international and US domestic carriers.
The LTE version, as far as we've heard, is only for Verizon in the US. Not sure what LTE technologies other carriers in other countries are using.
If you're interested in having an international capable version of the deivce, the GSM version is currently your best option.
Hope that helps!
Hi,
I would also like to purchase such a code, but how ist it with OTA updates? Still avialable?
How would it be if I later root my phone and put on a custom rom? Will it be still unlocked.
or
cant I just put on a custom rom, to sim-unlock the phone and save those costs?
Sorry for the noob questions.
Thanks

Custom Roms cannot sim unlock your phone as it isnt part of the system.
Flashing an OTA update or a custom rom will not affect your phone if you have sim unlocked it with a code.
MArk.
Hi,
Thanks for the reply.
I have contacted my carrier (A1 Austria) and complained about the simlock. To make a long story short, they finally gave me the simunlock pin.
But recently I unlocked the bootlader and the unlock was wiped so I needed to reenter the pin. After I reflashed the original rom (back to stock) the sim was locked again.
And the most strange thing happened today. I just restarted the phone today (as every day) and the sim was locked again. So reentered the pin to unlock.
My question now, can it be that the simumlock pin they have provided me is not correctly working or is this a normal behaviour or a bug?
Br, Avi

That appears to be normal behaviour.

Sim unlock galaxy nexus? ? ? ?

I was looking into this last night. I thought it would be easy but seems I was wrong.
How is it that, if you have root, you cant just delete all files connected with the sim lock. Or, if you install a custom rom, wouldn't that just overwrite all the lock crap???
Try it and see if it works. My guess would be no... You'll probably need to contact your operator and tell them to unlock it for you.

The simlock isn't store on the OS. Its in a non voltatile section of the radio - the same place that holds unique information like your phone serial number (IMEI) etc.
You need to use one of those online services who obtain it with a service center contract directly from samsung.

Hi
I have an IMEI unlock codes server, and I can provide unlock codes for all Samsung phones locked on European networks.
All models are compatible, even the most recent.
The unlock by imei don't make you loose your warranty, and it's permanent.
It's the easiest way to unlock your phone.
All you have to do is power on your phone with an unaccented sim card, type the provided unlock code, and the phone will be unlocked for ever.
The only info that I need is the IMEI of the phone. (type *#06# to see the IMEI)
And the model of the phone.

Well:
There are unlock codes, depending on the carrier you're locked to.
There's application for temporary unlock and permanent unlock, but you'll loose your IMEI on permanent unlock: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1548210.
There's my not very well tested method for perm unlock with IMEI intact: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1606982

[Q] Carrier Unlock?

Hey,
I got my Nexus two months ago and I've loved it unconditionally!
But I'm moving to the USA for three months in the summer and I really want to be able to use it over there. I'm just wondering is there an efficient way to unlock the carrier restrictions without paying my carrier? I'm on a contract and they won't do it.
I have until June, so if nothing is available now, I'm sure it will be then-provided it's possible.
I'm really not sure if this is possible because I'm totally unused to Android-I came from an iPhone 4.
I don't mind using Custom ROMs, Rooting, etc.

The Galaxy Nexus is factory unlocked. All Nexus phones are. It's one of Googles provisions for these phones.
not anymore, carrier sold GNs are locked. If your operator won't unlock it, there are a lot of sites that will unlock samsung phones. I got my unlock code off ebay for about £9...
you need to enter the code again after a factory reset so keep it safe somewhere

?? Mine was. I thought they all were still. Is it only in certain countries than? I bought one from Bell Canada and it is unlocked. Either way ignore my post I just assumed all of them were still unlocked.
@OP I found lots of places to buy unlock codes cheap. If you aren't in a hurry you can also wait until we find a way to unlock it with software.
I got the chance to test it out today and as it turns out, it's unlocked.
I got the phone in a strange way where there was very little contact with the carrier because it's on a corporate contract.
Either way, it's unlocked, but thank you guys for the help!
I'm using CDMA/LTE GNex, so this doesn't apply to me.. but just wondering..
Is the unlock code unique to each device or do all Gnexuses have the same code?
If the latter, why does no one publicize it?

they are unique, if someone cracked the encryption ( pay sites ) they could sell the keys they can create. you need to give your IMEI to be able to generate your code
Out of curiosity what carriers are locking the phone? I now have used 3 different phones all factory unlocked. Is this just certain countries?

Galaxy Nexus Successful Unlock (Bought Code)

Hello!
I have an NTT Docomo branded Galaxy Nexus.
Wanted to use a roaming sim so I needed to unlock it.
Checked some sites and finally decided to use the service from this site:
http://samsungimeiunlock.com/
I payed around $32 for the code(depends on which carrier your handset is locked to).
I would have happily donated it to a team who can sim-unlock our phones but I did not have the time to wait since I badly needed to use my roaming sim.
I received the codes in around 8 hrs.
First time using the code worked without problems.
I am not in any way connected to the site I mentioned above.
I just want to help those who are doubting online sites that provide unlock codes.
I guarantee the one I listed above works, and again, I am not in any way connected to the site.
Hope this helps and clears some doubts.
Peace yah all and enjoy your GNs!
P.S. - I unlocked the bootloader, rooted and flashed stock Google ICS 4.0.2 (not Docomo image) prior to inputting the code. Not sure if it would matter though.
If you had unlocked your bootloader then flashed a custom ROM then their would be no need to buy an unlock code would their

I'm just curious about the actual process of using it. Do you just punch in a bunch of numbers into the dialer, or what? Like what is the actual process to do this?
Turn off phone, insert foreign SIM, turn on phone, phone will ask for unlock code. 99% of GSM phones are like this.

I'm thinking the reason your thread got 100+ views and not one reply is your question being the noobiest of noobs!
Anyway, the Galaxy Nexus isn't sim-locked. the "sim network unlock pin" message you're getting must be a security PIN in your sim.
Maybe not: I've a Vodafone GN and it is network unlocked with a internet purchased PIN code.
Each time I "touch" the rom, the device ask again for that unlock code.
pin code
Witch provider do U have? is your sim protected by unlock code?call your provider and ask for "PUK" code this should help.
Mine was O2 sim locked and I bought an unlock code from an ebay seller. Several weeks later it decided to sim lock itself again without provocation.
Unfortunately I had deleted the email with the unlock code so had to buy it again... Annoying.

This is an ignorant response. The OP's phone is SIM-locked.
OP, flashing a new firmware does indeed SIM relock the phone. SIM relocks can also seemingly appear randomly or after removing your current SIM card from the phone.
This is why it's important to either memorise your SIM unlock code or keep it at hand. Just re-enter your unlock code and you'll be fine.
The OP's question is certainly not a NOOB question.
This is a common problem with what apparently seems codes purchased. When you install a new ROM or make certain changes, it asks for the code to be re-entered. Nobody seems to have a solution for this yet! Upon re-entering the code, the phone will work fine.

Sounds like you need to purchase a sim unlock code from an internet retailer if the code was not included with your original purchase.

If you goto fastboot (volumeup + volume down + power), what does it say in the lines of "baseband version" and "carrier info"?
aren't all galaxy nexus factory unlocked? so it should work with any network right out of box.
Unlocked phone showing same problem
Hi everyone,
Sorry to piggy back on this thread, but I thought this might be helpful.
I bought an unlocked phone (NEVER locked to any carrier) which was working fine for 3 days. Suddenly this morning, it asks for the "SIM network unlock PIN".
I have not modified the device in any way, it is original with locked bootloader, not rooted, etc.
The SIM had not been removed in the time period, and the device had not been turned off. I had it on airplane mode overnight, then it showed the problem in the morning.
Its not a simple SIM pin code, it asks me for that when I boot the device, and accepts my pin, then follows with the message above which I gather to mean it is locked to some carrier or other.
Running Android 4.0.4
Baseband: I9250XXLA2
Build number: IMM76I
Unfortunately I can't even buy an unlock code, because I don't know what carrier it thinks its locked to.
Maybe this is an indication of a deeper problem on this phone, not just related to replacement ROMS.
Any help would be appreciated.
Regards,
Jakrapup

No. People, if you don't know enough about the subject or enough to read the whole thread, don't comment. Some GSM phones are sim-locked like DoCoMo and evidently some Vodaphones and I'm sure more.
Also, there is a questions and answers forum. This isn't it.

I had same prob and used the do como solution it works 100%
I managed to sort my problem out without rooting, but it indicates something fishy is going on.
The phone was sold to me 'unlocked'. I contacted the vendor who promptly gave me an unlock code (I thought unlock codes were carrier specific... so which carrier is this code for? No idea, shouldn't even have had one!).
I'm starting to wonder if the vendor had bulk purchased locked phones from overseas (phone arrived in a french box), purchased the unlock codes, unlocked the phones, and then sold the phone on...
The vendor does tell me that the phone is supported by the local Australian warranty despite the french packaging, and the presence of an unlock code indicating it was purchased from a telco?
Anyway, problem appears to be solved, though I have no idea what triggered the lock in the first place.

Not Kogan,
I took a risk and bought from an Ebay store, rated as a top seller with a very high score, but you never know.
The box was sort of sealed, doubt it was the original seal. The seal was plain white, no writing or branding on it...
You get what you get with Ebay stores I guess
