Are you looking at flashing custom ROM's or just changing your baseband?
My question is, if it matters which baseband I use with a specific rom,
or does every baseband work with any Rom ???

works for any rom.
That irritated me at first too. No idea why SE has that kind of problem. But here it doesn't matter for flashing roms. Its only important signal and wifi strength

many thanks to all
There may be recommended radio's to flash, but there's no requirement - all what works best for you!

I friends,
Can anyone help me please to find answers for the following questions?
# Is changing (upgrading or downgrading) "baseband only" risky?
# How can I find the matching baseband (Radio/Modem) for a particular ROM I'm running?
# If I want to use specific baseband (let's say XXKL3), how can I find the related ROM to extract baseband? (I see ROMs with PDA/PHONE/CSC numbers. Which one represents Baseband number?)
# Is there any recommened stock ROM with no Wi-Fi issue?

It is not risky if u flash it via Odin follow the proper steps. If something goes wrong, just flash another official STOCK ROM.

This is actually not the matching of ROM but ur region, for example, DXLM2 baseband for Malaysia, while XXLM3 for Europe Region.

First of all, thanks for your explanatory response. Now things are more clear in my mind.
You're right, stock ROMs have no Wi-Fi issue. But as I know (correct me if I'm wrong) particular stock ROM versions are more stable than the others. I'm asking those ones if possible...

Hi guys, i have some questions about this procedure because all the procedures are made for LT18i version and my celphone is LT18a version (american).
I would like to know if there is any diferences about the procedure to install the CM10 on my cellphone, because of the diference about frequency from this two models.
I'm afraid realyse the procedures and my phone stop working.
I read on the forum that the main difference between the models is the frequency, and i woud like to know if there are any other differences, my cellphone operator works at 850Mhz / 2100Mhz - and the LT18i don't work at 850Mhz it works at 900Mhz / 2100Mhz.
Thx for help!

I also have the LT18a and I'm running CM9 and I've tried CM10 without any issues, I just reverted back to CM9 since CM10 had some stability issues.
Flashing a different kernel or ROM has not had any effect on my radio.
'i' or 'a' the procedure is the same. I=international,a=america, they both work irrespective of where you are in the world.

So, how people sad this is irrelevant, but i have some questions, what might I do first? My device is just like the way it came to me, with the original configurations. I know that i need to root it, but what is the procedure, i might backup all i want and them root it right? but do i need to do any other thing before rooting?
Thx!
Backup what you can before rooting like sms, contacts, calendar, emails etc.
Unless you are rooted you can't backup apps, data.
What it's you system details. Read the stickies in the general section all details are there

Soooo,I've got the XXKK6 radio, which is bassically for android 4.0.x I think and the newest one for android 4.1.2 which I am using is XXLF1.
I am living in Romania and i've got my Gnex from Vodafone, those are the standard europeean radios, now my question is:
Should I flash the newest radio for my android version? I am having really bad issues with my signal and my data connection. Is there any chance that my phone will end bricking?
No, flashing radio with fastboot won't brick the device

GetRil doesn't actually change the radio. It let's you download the RIL file that is most compatible with your existing radio.

Thanks am a noob knew it was good for checking baseband compatibility but only used to check mine as had baseband incompatibility issues with 4.2, was handy to check after reflash to make sure it was ok, still lots to learn so appreciate this kind of feedback. Will now do more research about ril files.

So Im looking into this rooting and custom firmware/ROM deal, and came across a couple questions id like answered if possible.
I'm on Telus, in Canada, and my baseband on my GS3 is I747MVLDLK4. Every thread i see about custom roms and rooting refers to a different baseband, and my question is, what baseband ROMs will work with mine? Or is it even safe to flash this phone with a custom ROM at all?
Ive seen different opinions in other threads and everything seems to conflict, so i need a definite answer as I'd love to get into this whole community and start doing awesome things with my S3, but i don't want to go through a period of not being able to use my phone because i flashed the wrong firmware.
THanks

Baseband is the modem package with the phone. There is actually a newer version released. I'm on telus and have flashed almost everything on these boards. If you stay in these threads and it says AT&T you can flash it on our phones

Don't confuse baseband with a operating system update. There isn't a need to update the baseband. It's just if you are having reception issues.

All good and helpful points but I will clarify further just so nothing gets misunderstood.
Baseband = modem. OP needs to flash only Telus modems and not ATT ones. Specifically only use the I747M modems. If you flash the wrong modem you may screw up your device. Tread carefully here.
When KorGuy talks about flashing anything on these boards he is referring to ROMs only. ROMs almost never include a modem in the package so there is no need to worry.
Check out the threads by Tony Stark for good answers.
^ I hope all that makes sense.

Last month I rooted my att note 2 and installed Twrp and the jedi X 13 rom. I noticed today that my wife's note 2 on the stock att rom has much faster data speeds. So I decided to check the baseband version and found she was on mca4 while I'm still on ucalk7. I'm almost positive that this is the reason my data speeds are slower but would like to know for sure. And if so, can I just flash the modem and ril file without touching the custom rom? And also can you point me to the proper files to flash?
Thanks,
Wade

Solved
1st, I wanna thank the mod for moving this to the right place. I had a brain fart yesterday and posted it in the Sprint forums. So thank you!!
2nd, I solved the problem with my data speeds and it had nothing to do with the modem. At&t had my phone identified on their network as a iphone 3gs somehow, so I was never on the LTE network and therefore wasn't getting the LTE data speeds.
However, through troubleshooting this I was able to find the information needed to update my baseband to the newest one without any problems and can confirm the Jedi X 13 rom works great on an LTE network in case anyone was wondering.
I love this forum and have learned a lot through reading and wanna thank everyone for all the good work!!
Thanks,
Wade
Great job Wade!

Hi guys,
I tried to figure this all out. I am on a Samsung Note 3 - i317 - Android 4.1.2 - UCAMC3.
I am in Germany from time to time and need to unlock it. I actually talked to AT&T many times, but those morons are not able to unlock it (seriously!!)! The last person I talked to said: "Why don't you just unlock it yourself, there is plenty of help on the internet". So I take that as a permission to root and flash.
However, I rooted it yesterday and I read that to unlock it I need the J3 modem. Now my question is, can I just flash the J3 modem, unlock it and then flash back to UCAM3 / do the latest OTA update afterwards? I have TWRP on the phone.
Is there anything else I need to watch out for? Please give me hints if I am on the right track.
Thanks guys!!
[EDIT] OK, so I just did it! I flashed the J2 Modem and tried the unlock. It worked! Just flashed back my CAMC3 Modem and everything is great. Thanks to those who work hard on getting all this stuff lined up for us dummies!!!
BTW your not on a note 3 lol

Hi guys,
HAHA ... yeah, of course I meant Note2 ... :silly:
Thanks for the hint that it won't get stock updates. I actually just found that out because I tried to install the OTA update.
So one last question for now:
I just downloaded the newest H3 modem and flashed it with TWRP. My system info now shows:
Baseband version: I317UCAMH3
Build number JZO54K.I317UCAMC3
Is it normal that build and baseband differ? I saw a screenshot somewhere else and the build had the CAMH3 version as well. Did I do something wrong or is that normal?
Thanks guys for all your help!! :good:
Your fine. Build is rom related not modem man.
Sent from my Note 2 using Tapatalk 4
Baseband and firmware generally read the same. ..unless you flash a different setup. ..
Modem or firmware separately from one another. .
The device won't care unless they are not compatible code. ..
Simply verify the files to make sure they are for this device and your good. ..
And of course you should always read the instructions for the files just in case the developer requirements changed for some reason. ..g

you re fine! Baseband has nothign to do with your build number. Build number generally means what rom base you are on. you re good to go. I think everyone is rocking the H3 modem right now and speeds vary depending where you are geographically but the WIFI data speeds are a little faster.
Thanks guys for the feedback!!
It's working great. Really seems to be much faster on WIFI. I didn't do speedtests, but it just feels faster.
