[Q] Slow Keyboard - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I was writing a reasonably long email today on the phone (which was dreadful enough ) and the keyboard kept freezing with the blue indicator still up. If I stopped typing after a short delay the rest of my sentence would come up and shoot across the screen as if I was typing it out. I guess it was still registering my keypresses while it was frozen/stalling. A couple of times if missed sections of text.
Was I typing to fast? Why would this happen and does anyone else have problems with the keyboard?
EDIT: Mods, please move to the Q&A. Thanks!

Landscape?
"Update: Thanks to read T4rd, we have a fix. Well, it seemed to fix the issue immediately on my phone that is.
Head into Settings>Language & input> and uncheck the box for “Spelling correction.”
This seems to have taken care of the problem. And don’t worry about this turning off auto-correction, there are separate auto-correction settings in the actual keyboard settings that remain active. This could turn off Android’s ability to spell check and underline words in red though. So in order to reduce lag, you would be disabling a feature."

Pretty useful to use voice typing function for those long texts or emails

I had the same issue when typing a long email. The keyboard was unresponsive and would still type but was really slow. Any ideas what caused this or how to fix it?

Lock screen lag.

Does anyone else's lock screen lag really bad sometimes?
Sometimes it will work fine but sometimes it could lag horribly.
I can slide to unlock and then it will actually slide a second or two later, and the animation when it brings up the home screen is really choppy.
I keep thinking of doing a factory reset to see if it solves it but o don't want to lose everything if it doesn't work.

Cause when you lock ur screen in full light condition and unlock when in dark light condition (and vice versa), the lag you describe happens.

[BUG] Sometimes the led doesn´t blink

Hi, I have noticed that sometimes when I have a notification, the led doesn´t blink at all, and sometimes it does. I have official IMM76I, and I have noticed it mainly with Whatsapp, but it can be because is the only program I use with the phone silenced in my work.
Have you noticed that?

Where are we talking of color option?
I have noticed it even with GTalk and many other apps. Yesterday, I was playing when a notification sounded. Without turning on the screen, I kept watching the phone but the LED never blinked. I turned on the screen and I had a GTalk message.
Nothing else have noticed that problem?
I have had this problem as well on my VZW nexus on AOKP m5 and earlier versions as well. It doesn't happen all of the time, but maybe 10-15% of the time with SMS and at least 90% of the time with gmail.
I can see a gmail come in on the notification light on my Xoom, but nothing happens on my phone, I'll check the phone 5 min later and the email is there but no notification.

Thanks for the idea, I have not tried the light flow app; but I have asked in another forums and people with than app also have noticed the problem.
Anyway, the objetive is to find the bug and report it to google, so they can fix it in the next update for our Gnex
Anyone else with the problem?
Is the option checked in each program? Those who flash rooms and rebuild everything might forget an app or two that does not have the option on by default.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA
I've noticed from time to time as well... But the other thing is that even when it does blink, it often shuts off fairly shortly afterwards.
It would be nice if there was options to ensure that it blinks and keeps blinking until you acknowledge it.
Light Flow works perfectly for me. Never had an issue with it not blinking or blinking incorrectly.
I use it as not all the apps I have on my phone have LED light functionality natively, and Light Flow takes care of that.

A few small issues with my device. I'm wondering if it's worth exchanging?

Hello everyone,
I just bought my S3 last Sunday. Since then I have noticed several issues with it and I'm wondering if it's worth exchanging. They seem to be both software and hardware issues.
1. It's pretty laggy. For such a "groundbreaking" phone this is lagging much more than my old Sensation. It's rarely smooth switching between screens and going from lock screen to home screen is also laggy. Overall, it's not very smooth. Is this common on this device? Maybe I'm expecting too much.
2. The music player skips and repeats A LOT. Whenever a song is playing, it will constantly have gaps in the music. It will just stop playing for a brief second but then continue normally. It also will repeat parts of a song, such as saying some lyrics twice.
3. Whenever someone calls me, my voice sounds "distant" to them. If I call someone my voice sounds totally normal but when I receive the call I am either echoing or I sound like I'm holding my phone away from my face.
I guess my biggest problem is the lag. It really bothers me since it's supposed to be such an amazing and smooth phone. It takes several times longer to load apps and things than my old Sensation did, and I don't have many apps installed at all. Opening the app drawer is consistently laggy as well.
Are these common issues or do you guys think it would be worthwhile to exchange the phone? As of right now, I'm not very pleased with it.
Thanks for all your input, guys!
Edit: Also, whenever I hit the home button it takes several seconds to load it up. Is there a way to speed this up?
Also, I am not rooted yet. I always like to spend a few weeks with the stock setup before rooting.
Edit 2: Last thing, S Voice is a piece of **** on this. Literally. It takes FOREVER to load up and RARELY does what I say. Does this actually work for you guys or is S voice generally useless?
Not common at all. Exchange.

Smooth as butter.
Have you tried installing the latest OTA? It may help with some of your problems. For the home key lag, double press to open s voice, then go into settings and turn off double press home to open.

1. Try this. Settings >Developer Options > Window animation scale ->change to 0.5x or off. Transition animation scale >animation is off
Also make sure Do not keep activities under developer options is unchecked. Check it first then uncheck it. This should solve the redraw issue on teh homescreen (at least it did for me)
2. Did not happen to me
3. Turn off noise reduction
For the distant sound issue open the dialer>call settings>additional settings>uncheck noise reduction. Even running unrooted the interface should be very smooth however.

that is yet another odd thing about my device. it claims I have the latest OTA, when I know I don't. Also, it says the music hub is still unavailable (even though I know several people who have it running)
I haven't actually used s-voice myself, but a lot of reviews said it wasn't very good.
Another thing you can try for the lag you mentioned is in Developer Options, change the Force GPU Rendering option.
Also try limiting background processes to 3 or 4. Though you shouldn't have to resort to this. If other options don't work id still take it back for exchange.

I just tried all the things you listed in number 1 and it is definitely faster, in a way. When I click the home button, the wallpaper pops up immediately. The apps however take significantly longer to load up and the app drawer still takes quite a while to load. I think I am stuck with a return. Thank you for all your help!

To speed up the home screen button:
Double tap home screen (bring up s-voice)
Tap menu softkey
Tap settings
Uncheck launch s-voice
You will need to do this with your new device as well.
And s-voice is generally useless, or as far as I've found.

I've been using it since S3 till Note 2 now that don't feel it drains too much battery. Anyway, the battery life is very good on Note2.
I tried installing it but upon setting it up, it said it can't be activated together with the Air-view function...therefore I have uninstalled it.
Can anyone please confirm whether we can use both Light Flow together with Air-view?
Damn yeah i get the air view and light flow issue too
Maybe someone will make an alternative
Sent from my GT-N7100 using Tapatalk 2
Light control works.
I don't know why, but it turns the TalkBack.accessbility option on and off during install,
which forces you to turn air view off.
However, it doesn't actually NEED talkback.
I turned airview on after the install finished, and was able to change my my notification colors (changed missed call from red to purple)
- Frank
I get the spoken "Folder open" or "Folder closed" when using light flow and opening folders. Talkback is disabled and it doesn't do this with any other features.
Only fix was to disable Light flow which eliminated the problem.
Install liteflow then go in to settings & turn Air-view back on...Now both work fine
Perhaps you can try Light Manager which can be downloaded from Google Play.

Not sure if it works on Galaxy Note II.

The battery killing is specific to some versions of the s3 where we work around some really bad bugs in the led driver.
It shouldn't affect the note 2 though.
At the moment the airview suggestion of switching back on is the best I know of (I had that reported from a beta tester with a note 2) - there's a reference to that on our support page - http://www.folioflow.com/ff/page/website/lightflow/pageId/2171
The main issues I'm aware of are the talkback and swype issues. I've offered me help to swype as they are aware it's an issue with their app and have recreated the issue themselves.
I've sent some code to Samsung regarding the talkback "folders open" issue and can recreate it with any app that uses accessibility services.

First of all, you MUST pop up a notification during install that air view can immmediately turned on after install.
I've seen several people post that when they saw the 'turn off air view' box, they immediately aborted the install and get a refund.
You must let them know, before it happens, that this is (for now) normal.
Secondly, the bug implies that the talkback bug is an ICS issue, so I'm not sure why any Note II users are having the problem.
(I don't have this problem, although I'm not exactly sure what folder people are opening to trigger the problem. App folder?)
- Frank
For me, it happens any time I open a folder on a homescreen.
Sent from my GNex using smoke signals.
Also happens if you slide your finger on the homescreen page dots. You get "talked back" the page number.
Swype-alike "Continuous Typing" in Samsung Keyboard also gets disabled if you use any kind of accessibility apps.
I was actually so frustrated with the talk back feature I uninstalled this app. I might install it again.
Dev. you should really consider telling people this, because I'm sure there are others who were like me and said "oh no! Talk back is working even though I turned it off" and just uninstalled it.
It happened to me on my home screen folders.
So does anyone notice a battery drain on their devices while using this app? Of course I'm referring to people who have a Note 2.
EDIT: Nope, I turned Air View back on and I'm still getting that annoying folder open and folder closed voice. I even turned on talk back and turned it back off! haha. I have to uninstall this until this issue gets fixed. On my home screen I use folders all the time, and it's rather annoying to hear.
I've removed talkback and changed airview back on and is now working 100%. Not sure does it drain battery since have used it from start. I get 6-8hrs screen on time. Gotta love Bright Pink and Cyan.

Screen off and on without using power button !

hi all
first time poster long time reader
I am so tired of trying **** apps.
Could somebody please tell me what app works with the nexus four to allow me to touch the screen somehow to see a text message etc when it arrives??
for the first time ever I am missing the button in my iPhone that let's me hit it to see what is going on at a glance.
I just want a way to toggle the screen on without hitting the power button on the Nexus 4
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
The only way to do this is to leave the screen on, which would drain the battery. There's probably an app that would turn the screen off (or dim it), but this would keep your phone awake and drain the battery.
Someone feel free to chime in and correct me if there is such an app.

I don't really understand why you cannot make text msgs received light the screen up like it does on an iphone. It was so convenient to just glance at the phone and see it was work texting yet again and mutter under my breath for them to piss off and then go back to playing Xbox without ever having to touch the phone.

Try Light flow for that... I think you can set a custom LED color and the screen to come on with certain notifications.
Yeah I've got Light Flow. You can set the LED colour and the screen to come on with some notifications. There is a 'lite' version which should cover the basics. But if you dont use the stock messenger or use things like Whatapp, you need the paid for version.
I use it and it has great customisation BUT at the moment I can't get it to work 100% of the time. So be warned!
It will be great though once they update it for 4.2.

For now I'm settling for half of the equation; screen off with a double tap. I'm using screen off and lock from Play.
I had PGM on my GN and it works very well, the developer is planning on getting an N4 the last I heard.
I'm currently looking into getting the phone to wake using the volume rocker -- I'm reading that it's inside android.policy.jar and removing two lines that ignore the volume rocker button presses.
Anyone want to give it a go? I'm going to look into it this weekend.

For the Gnex there's an app called “PGM", I emailed the developer if he had intention to update the app so it works with the Nexus⁴, but sadly he doesn't have the phone yet.

I emailed him too! That is one of the best app out there, in terms of the idea behind it. No real battery drain, but still be able to wake your device from sleep. I died a little after getting that email.
Kinda hope someone would do something like that for N4.
You can use Tasker+Secure Settings (pro version) to use the Google Now shortcut to unlock/lock the device, but there is no waking the device.
I too am waiting for pgm! That would be amazing
