Anyone with this issue? It allows me to freeze them. Says they're frozen. But then they're not grayed out and they are still active.

Yep. Noticed that the first day I had the Nexus. In ICS you just go to Settings->Apps and freeze from there. It is part of the OS and one of the best things they added!

Wow. Thanks. Didn't realize that.
Edit: I don't see that option in Setting -> Apps. Am I missing something?
Sorry... I was going too fast this morning... Select the app, click on it and it should see an option to deactivate or uninstall. System apps will show deactivate and regular apps uninstall...
I am not on my phone so I don't remember the precise label for the option...
Thanks again. I'm actually trying to freeze non-system apps. But that's definitely good to know.

Several times I have edited my app drawer order, grouping apps by type on each page (a page for games, a page for internet stuff, a page for utilities, etc.), creating folders, etc. Then I hit Menu > Save, and everything is fine, until I reboot my phone. Then it loses the app order, and a few apps get seemingly randomly moved to their own pages, so the total number of pages grows from about 5 to upwards of 8 or 9. It seems like the most recently added apps get moved, but not always. I move them all back how they should be, but they only stay until a reboot.
Anyone else have this happen? Or better, found out why? Or even better, how to make them stay?
Really? Does nobody sort their apps? Or nobody has had this problem?

I don't sort them in the App Drawer. I leave them arranged alphabetically grid or list. I do arrange the ones I most often use somewhere on the 7 Home Screens though.
They will not stay. It is an annoying problem. I use folders now to group my apps. And I have my apps sorted to stop the spacing issue.

I will try to replicate it. I am using ADW EX so I will switch it up and see what happens

Still happening on Starburst ROM 1.5, so the problem it's with TouchWiz and is not ROM-specific.
I made a backup of TWLauncher with Titanium, so when my drawer gets really messed up I restore data from the backup (killing the running process) and it does restore my app layout as it was when I made the backup. Not a solution, but a lot quicker than re-sorting 50 apps. If only I could figure out how to trigger a save of the layout...it seems to just do it occasionally and I can't figure out what triggers it (certainly not when the Save button gets pressed...as if that makes sense).
Had anyone replicated this issue on TouchWiz 3.5? (or is it 4.0... whatever the flashable one is that's newer than what ships with the device).
I know what u mean but for me its all good after i fix it a second time untill i change then itll revert to just before i changed
It only happened to me on 4.5 thiugh
Good thing actual tw4 launcher doesnt have that problem

Yes, it's a problem with TouchWiz - I can replicate this behaviour on my S2, factory 2.3.5 ROM without root

Bummer. Guess we have to wait for an official update to get an updated launcher.
are you saving the changes ?
You have to make your changes then hit menu again and save changes.
otherwise they don't stick.
after clicking save don't press anything for 30 secs or so
that seems to do it for me
if i save and immediatly go back it doesn't save

Okay, I'll do some organizing and give that a try.
hi all,
after updating my galaxy s2 from 2.3.3 to 2.3.5 with kies, i had the same problem about sorting applications page.
i didnt reset my phone before or after updating with kies. first i tought that i might be about this. i was looking for a solution and i read these posts. without resetting my phone i just tried to delete files of TW Launcher.
Settings>Applications>Manage applications>All(tab)
find and tap "TW Launcer"
tap "Clear data" button.
after that my home screen and applications screen look default.
applications screen sorted alphabetical.
i customized my home and app screen again and till now didnt change anyting, i mean didnt forget the layout of apps.
i wanted to share this little unprofessional solution with you =)
if there is a better way i want to learn.
finally i have a question, after updating to 2.3.5, when i tap contacts, it opens slowly, after 1 or 1.5 seconds lag(black screen) it opens. but not always. it happens just sometimes.
do you have the same behaviour?
sory for my english. looking forward to see your answers or comments.
i tried and there is no problem anymore

14th post,
see my firs post
I'm really surprised I haven't seen more people complaining about it but I guess most are not running TouchWiz.
To re-explain the problem I'm having..
You arrange all the applications in different panels the way you want (after you hit "applications" not the home screen panels)
After turning the phone off and on again Or plugging it in to the computer via USB and removing it, all the applications are a mess again. Not the way you arranged them and there doesn't seem to be any logic behind it.
It's not just the way they were the last time you turned the phone off or the last time you plugged in the USB cable.
I also thought having folders in an earlier panel may be causing later panels apps to get bumped around but I've tried it with the folders in the last panel and I get the same randomness.

I have a Galaxy Nexus, brand new as of Saturday Jan 4. As soon as I got it, it got an update, I'm guessing to Android 4.0.2 since that is the version I have. My question has to do with My Verizon Mobile app, the Books app and the Email app. Will disabling these apps screw up anything with the phone, like are they very connected to any other apps or setting with the phone ?
Also, is disable like delete, if not how do I truly delete an app ? And while on topic of getting rid of things i dont use that wont effect the phone/other apps/anything, what other stock apps that come on the phone from the start could I get rid of with no side effects at all ?

Disable is just like it sounds. It removes the app from menus and stops it from running. In order to fully 100% delete system-level apps, you must be rooted.
There are many different threads/lists of "safe to disable" apps.
sorry if i double post this. searched but couldn't find a similar thread.
what bloatware/apps have you removed from your HOX, and have any consequences occurred? please share your experiences..
i`m on leedroid, so some bloatware have been removed by developer already.
i removed all twitter apps, no occurrences yet.. used titanium backup ofcourse.

you can just disable all the apps you want through settings-apps as well mate if you do not use TB. Plus disable all bloatware if you are on a branded phone and i would also say disable google maps, facebook if you do not use and even the email client from HTC. I use gmail app from market hence why i would disable that.
I was thinking of making a thread and giving battery tips on how to save more juice and what apps to remove...maybe i should do that and see if it helps people out.
Any apps that you do not use i would either disable through settings or freeze with TB or unistall them..I could make a list on a thread if you want in the next couple of days

only disable it really if you do not use it. i have disabled it as i barely use it my friend. from what i can see i would even freeze or uninstall friend stream as i do not use that either...there are so many i have not even had a look at...by having TB and if you was to uninstall all the system apps you do not use you are making your own Lite rom by doing so
We could all share what we have disabled and compare results too.

you have to uninstall updates for system apps first then you can disable, note not all system apps can be disabled.
what i did was restart the phone open task man then disabled the ones running at start, just click the name not the X.

if you go into settings-apps-all apps you can disable all the apps you want. of course some system apps you can not, not sure which but you can pretty most of them.
Thanks, done
Every time I pull up my task manager to close out apps I find Google maps running even though I never opened it.
Is it triggered by another app, like Facebook possibly?
Er sorry, I thought I was in the Q&A forum. If one of the mods want to move this I'd appreciate it.
Download Autostarts from the Play store. You can prevent anything and everything from running on its own. One of the best root apps out there. It will also show you what the triggers are that cause it to start up.

It may depending on the app. It would be easier to just freeze apps that you don't need or use. If you get an error because of a dependency, it's usually far easier to defrost the app than to reinstall it (especially if it is categorized as a system app).

I think I'd prefer that option although I realize re-installing Maps wouldn't exactly be a hassle. It isn't really eating up battery or getting in the way I just wondered why it was always there when I knew I hadn't manually opened it.
Thanks for chiming in, the more I learn the better I enjoy my phone.
What is Video Hub and why is it always running even after I kill it? What is the purpose of it running all the time? Same question for S Suggest; why is it always running and how do I make it stop?

I disabled those stuff right away. If you're on stock TW, just press and hold the icon (as if to move it) and drag it down to 'app info' tab. When the application information comes up, hit force stop then disable it.

Excellent advice. In addition if you want to disable system apps and you are rooted, I recommend the often referenced here Titanium Backup. The paid version lets you freeze (disable) any app, even one's that the above method will not let you disable. Doing this for a fair amount of services that you aren't planning on using can really help out with battery life. If you are rooted, I also recommend the free ES Task Manager as it has the ability to selectively disable services from auto-starting on boot.
You should also notice a lot of apps that are always running not just those two. Its how Android works, it keeps it in memory so that it opens quicker. Its not supposed to cause battery drain but there's lots of debate about this. Definitely freeze anything you don't need or at least disable if you don't use. But you'll see a lot of things running in the background using a third party app. Usually its not that big of a deal unless they are using CPU
