I really couldn't stand the default music app on this phone, so I decided to pull the Google app from the market. Here's what the problem is.
If I start my random shuffle after plugging in my headphone cable, it will play the first song. Then, it stops. If I hit the power button or unplug the cable, the next song starts playing. I have to do this for every song.
Has anyone else tried that music player and experienced this?
(and for some reason I can never, ever put these things in the right forum. *facepalm*)
I have a similar problem with this app on my sgs2 too! But on my sgs2 i stream at work everynite with the google music app on my vibrant it streamed flawless with no gapps of dead air BUT with my sgs2 it buffers between every song! i know its not the building because my vibrant played perfectly in there. but between every song i wait anywhere between 30 sec to a few min until the next song plays on random, i never waited anytime on my vibrant!!!
THIS IS MY ONLY COMPLAINT ABOTU MY SGS2, I LOVE THIS PHONE, SO THIS COMPLAINT IS SMALL COMPARED TO MOST PEOPLE
This is one of two problems I have. The other, and very much more serious issue, is that the alarm clock function fails 20% of the time to ever go off. I'm trying a replacement app to see if the behavior is app or rom related.
My google music app won't reliably play offline music while offline. When I play a song, it will skip crazy fast through songs, stop on one and play it, then repeat. It's very annoying. This will happen with songs that are on my sd card as well, so it's not completely the app's fault.
I think samsung may have setup something weird to force you to use their music player. I was having similar weird issues with ubermusic, which NEVER gave me any issues. quite the coincidence...

Thats something u need to either reflash rom, or take phone back!!! i would would say odin back to stock but we dont have that yet. I use my alarm on my phone 6 days a week and it has never failed on me.
My google music app plays fine just not flawless like the vibrant which it should be the other way around, when i say flawless i mean no dead gaps of airtime, buffering etc

I've been thinking about flashing, but was really hoping to wait until something cleaner, say, CM7, was available. Flashing tweaked stock roms feels kind of pointless, but with the issues I'm having I'm starting to get concerned...

I've experienced similar issues with the ICS google music app.
Just got the Samsung Nexus ICS from Verizon the other day. Phone is still stock. Installed Pandora.
The issue: Playing Pandora for about 30 min or even 10 min the phone shuts off immediately and then turns back on. Does not even go back to playing music on Pandora. Right back to the first screen, password screen. Now I have played google music and this has not happened. I even un installed Pandora to troubleshoot which music engine is bugging. No issues with the phone after I un installed Pandora. I waited a full day then re installed Pandora and the issue has not gone away.
Talked to another forum member who has the same set up and he has had no issues with running Pandora.
Any suggestions.
Thanks

Pandora for me bugs out when trying to use it on ICS. It "sorta" works. I chock it up to not being ICS compatible.

No troubles running pandora here. AOKP with apex kernel. Maybe try fix permissions.
Mine works fine, try uninstalling and reinstalling the app.

I am running stock 4.0.2, rooted. Pandora is running fine on my Galaxy Nexus
I am running the GSM version. It streams fine over wifi and over the Cell network.
So, it doesn't look like the problem is ICS. It may be something specific with Verizon.
Are you playing over wifi, verizon CDMA, or LTE?
This may or may not be your issue. I've had a few apps crash on me. Turns out they didn't like the force 2d hardware rendering setting. Some apps don't crash but have other issues. Like tap-a-talk won't always show images with it turned on. If you have that on , you can try turning it off.

Pandora works fine for me with the screen on if I turn the screen off it cuts out from time to time. Sucks as I use it while working out and its driving me nuts. Any chance ICS is cutting CPU availability with the screen off and it impacts pandora?

I've had Pandora, Google Music, and Rhapsody all crash my phone a number of times: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1379600 . Not sure what the issue is.
I have no issues with streaming Pandora on my stock 4.0.2 Verizon GNex all day (8-10 hrs). Like someone else said, try uninstalling and reinstalling the app.

Could it be a Bluetooth problem?
I'm having the same issue with Pandora (and Stitcher). I use them on the drive to work with Ford Sync, and after a while the phone will restart. I think it may be a bluetooth problem because upon reboot, the bluetooth connection gets stuck and requires another boot once I get to my location.
The bluetooth incompatibility is a known issue and hopefully gets resolved soon
I'm running ARHD 6.04 (4.03 ICS) on Sensation.
It can be a hard hand off from LTE to CDMA 1X/EV-DO, even with eHRPD. The data connection actually stops before being picked up by the other network. If connection is lost, Pandora will pause itself. If it's in the background, it may be killed.
Just posted up my experience in this thread in the Q/A section:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=21865443&postcount=21
I was told to try using Fix Permissions in RM, but ran into an issue with that as well.
---------- Post added at 07:08 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:54 PM ----------
Solved the Rom Manger Fix Permissions with this:
http://androidforums.com/899973-post26.html
woo, just a radio, still get lot to replace
Huh?
Anyway, Fix Permissions seemingly solved the problem for now... will update later.
So... One Pandora crash on 3G so far since Fix Permissions. Re-did the process and so far it has been holding again, for slacker and iheart too.
Pandora has done that on every phone I've had. That is why I don't use it anymore.

People have been seeing the GN do random reboots for awhile now, even when not using Pandora.
I've had it happen when the phone was just sitting there on the desk idle. I've had it happen during navigation with Google Maps. But it most frequently happens on Pandora.
There is a theory that it's a heat related issue. Basically that the phone is rebooting to protect itself.
There is some logic to that, as it seem to happen most frequently when I've got it plugged in charging and I'm streaming something to my phone (Pandora, Google Maps, etc).
It's apparently an issue Google is aware of, but that doesn't make it less frustrating.

I wish this were a more general reboot. The only other crash is get is with occasional flash videos, when trying to change the quality (youtube).
Otherwise, I have had NO OTHER RANDOM REBOOTS aside from Pandora/Slacker/iHeartRadio. Happening very frequently again. Is it just straight incompatibility? These apps are unusable and this is a heavy portion of what I use my phone for.
If it were heat, wouldn't all the games that leave my phone at hand-warmer status crash it? This does not happen for me. I explained very clearly when this issue was arising.
I had something bad happen to my rooted one x running leedroid 4 yesterday.
I sync'd a lot of music to the phone, around 15gb. I then disconnected it and went out in the car and the phone freaked out, everything crashed then it wouldnt boot for a good 10 mins, then when it did, it was really slow. The back of the phone was red hot.
anyway, i ended up having to restore from a nandroid. Everything was back to normal.
So, i decided to try again tonight. It did the same thing. This time i've narrowed it down to the music apps scanning the music. If I freeze out the apps (music & player pro) the phone works normally.
I've tested this a few times and get the same results. I've also noticed that when the music player is scanning (you can see the album list updating) the battery discharges faster than usb can power!!!.
During normal use, it's doing things like bluetooth streaming and gps at the same time with no issue. It just seems that writing to the internal "sd" is killing my phone.
Has anyone else transferred a huge number of tracks to this phone? Is this a rom issue?
It seems to work ok with lower numbers of tracks. which is leading me to believe that the scanning of music is the problem
This is an issue.
Had it too, sync the first 5gb, let it do its job. It will freeze, stuck, bug and **** as long as it is indexing the new music.

the irony is, my old desire v1 happily syncs and scans 16gb without a problem
Identical issue. I returned it lol

So I use google music player instead of the native s3 music player from samsung because I have all my music uploaded to the google cloud. I just got the s3 a month ago and continually have this issue. I'm listening to music then all of a sudden it stops, it looks like its still playing but can't hear anything and then when I try and back out of it its frozen.
Any ideas? Anyone else experiencing this issue?
thx in advance

I think its a problem with touchwiz, so far have not had any issues with toasted .marshmallows. a solution I found is to go to application manager and clear data under Google play. Its not efficient and you have to wait a few minutes for it to sync again.

Are you rooted? I had that same issue on jellybean stock w/ root. Better Battery Stats showed I kept getting a LPAplayer wakelock and when I changed the build.prop following this post (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=25475691&postcount=4732) it seemed to help. Dunno what the cause is or why that would fix it, but try it out if you have root.
thank you for all the responses.
So I am not rooted, just on the out of the box sg3 system.
I will try some of the suggestions..disappointed that there is the issue. And it does the same thing whether streaming from the cloud or the songs I have pined for offline listening which sits on the cache. :crying:
I'm having the exact same issue. I'm on stock JB, not rooted. It'll play a song or two then just freeze. I have to back completely out and try again and get the same results. Frustrating, because I don't store any music at all on my device.

Shouldn't be a touchwiz issue, as I have the same problem even though I'm running Nova Prime. I just replaced the google player widget with the samsung one and have been happy ever since. I don't really miss the cloud sync cause my library rarely changes much.
I am having the same issue. I thought it might be the romantic I was running, but now it has happened on two different roms. I wonder if it is a Jellybean issue?

I'm still having this issue. I don't have music pinned on my device, it's all in the cloud. Never, ever had this issue on my Vibrant. I actually went to Google's help today and the rep who called said they know it's happening with this phone. He advised me to uninstall the updates and then reinstall from the market. I did that, and it actually feels worse. Now it's "frozen" on one song and won't let me select another. The only buttons I have available are back, pause and forward, but it isn't playing anything.
Interestingly, I just uninstalled updates again, taking my Play Music app back to v4.3.606.400990 and it seems to be working fine. I've even had music interrupted a few times by phone calls and it picks up again and plays with no help from me.
Used to happen to me as well on stock, but since rooted and now running 4.2.1 problem has disappeared
same problem with vzw gs3
I have this same problem with my phone. The following steps detail what reproduces the issue for me.
Play Music starts playing, gets through about two songs, then stops.
When waking the phone Play Music is frozen. The pause, previous and next track buttons, but nothing on the screen responds to touch.
Hold down home button and use the built in task manager to end Play Music, accepting the warning.
Restart Play Music and continue playing. It will play normally after that.
However, from then on the LPAPlayer will keep the phone from sleeping.
If I leave it alone, it will show wakelocks into the 10-15 hour range.
A reboot of the phone will fix the wakelock, until I use Play Music again.
I am on stock rooted JB for VZW (VRBLK3). I don't think it's ROM or even phone specific though.Iit seems to affect a wide spectrum of ROMs and a few different phones on different carriers.
I am currently trying out the recommendation on this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=34586729&postcount=10
I am about six songs in now, will report back if it fails.

Hi all,
I have the strangest issue with my phone:
Whenever i'm streaming any music or podcasts on my phone (3g connection), the playback works perfectly for a couple of minutes and then it quits and does not resume until i turn the screen on again. As background, I was using the Android Revolution for a couple of months and was thinking that this might be caused by some sort of power saving feature, that cuts the data once the screen is turned off. I'm back to stock now and I'm still having the same issue. This is not application-related, since the same thing is happening with pocketcasts, spotify and google play music.
Can't find any other threads with the same kind of description of the issue, so I'm thinking I'm alone with the issue. The only thing I can think of would be my mobile service provider, but it makes no sense that the data connection would drop immediately when the screen is turned off. Also, the sleep mode has no effect on the issue.
Does anyone have any ideas!?
Try turning off SLEEP MODE from the power tab under settings.

Power Saver Mode (done by HTC) has an option that Disables data every time the screen goes off.
Although while I am streaming music on soundcloud , It still works with screen Off .

Just to let you guys know, that this was in fact caused by Android Revolution. I switched back to stock rom and was having issues with the play store not downloading apps that you have selected from the browser-based store. Had the same kind of issues with AR, so was thinking that the problem is still continuing. Used the stock rom over the weekend and noticed that even though i'm getting the random pause in music every now and then, the overall experience is way better.
