Hw acceleration - Xperia Arc Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Sorry if it has been already asked many times, but I would like to know if hardware acceleration is enabled in ics alpha and leaked release (doomlord's rom)!! Thanks

I think it is enabled in the leaked ROM because actions like app drawer scrolling work smoothly, which is not present in alpha ROM.

What branch to start with...

Now that bytecode has given us CWM, the question becomes what current ROM or branch of cyanogenmod would give us the biggest jump on getting a working image for our phones?
I think CM9 would be a good candidate. It would probably be the most popular choice to get working. I know I'm itching for ICS on our phone. I think it would make it the best phone on the market for now.
I'm no programmer so I can only say my opinion... I think whatever can be done first to get away from LG / AT&T software. If that's CM7, cool, if it's CM9, cool.
I'd think CM7 is the way to go to jump into a custom ROM that you could get working the fastest for this phone. CM7 has been out for a LONG time and it's been well tweaked and it's SOLID!
BUT... CM9 is what's coming (and for more and more phones/tabs, it's what's already here!).
I say even if it takes more effort now (vs. an older and more stable CM7), go right with CM9 and let's get this party started!

Why not ICS? Maybe it would be easy to port ICS for Galaxy Nexus to Nitro?
I'd say CM7 since by the time you finish getting CM9 figured out and working with the current kernal, it will have already been released by LG.
I'm going to start working on my own custom rom, at least as long as i can figure out how to get my Ubuntu setup... ugg..
Does anyone know any good guides for making your own AOSP ROMS? Or is it all, learned knowledge and experience?
I sure wish I knew what you guys are talking about. Lol

I think CM9 is the way to go.
Question to any who know, if we were to put CM9 or any ICS on the Nitro, will it use hardware acceleration? That is the main feature I have been waiting for.

Hardware acceleration for the UI? Or 3D / 2D graphics?
I think I read the other day that you can force the UI to use hardware acceleration in the build.prop file. With CWM feel free to tinker.

unless someone on the CM team gets a nitro, there will be no ICS/CM9 until LG puts out a rom.
We need to just start w/ the basics. Optimize (battery life and performance) what we currently have and go from there.
I find your lack of faith...disturbing
Seriously, I think we can get a pretty damn good rom going if we put some work into it.

CyanogenMod: http://www.cyanogenmod.com/
CM7 is based on Gingerbread and is a very optimized and customizable ROM (OS) for the phone, which is generally close to perfect and has a myriad of features that you don't normally find in regular/stock ROMs.
CM9 is the same basic concept as CM7, except it is based on ICS (Ice Cream Sandwich, Android's latest OS).
ICS: http://www.android.com/about/ice-cream-sandwich/

In my opinion, our phone is built to support ICS or any iteration of it (clear stated by the 3 softkeys instead of 4 in gingerbread). So I suggest we proceed with either ICS or CM9.
I don't know if it matters, but I think someone should reach out to CM team and inform them of the development. I am sure they will be very interested in developing CM9 for a phone that is clearly intended to be a rival to the Galaxy Nexus.
The main thing to consider is the kernel , ICS runs on 3.xx kernel and gingerbread on 2.6 , porting 2.6 kernel drivers to 3.xx is alot of work. codeaurora kernel is a good start

I think a simple debloated init.d optimized stock ROM should be the starting point. Starting a long project like CM9 will only slow down the adoption rate of the phone because the progress will be slow. I think most people will want to see a couple of ROM choices before they jump aboard.
Once you use CM9 it will automatically start hardware acceleration for smoothness and my upcoming base ROM that i'm including is going to have hardware acceleration and much more, please stay tune.
mod ammend
moved to general - this isn't a development query
I'm going to bet it will be cm9!
isnt riccardo from G+ already getting close to a ics release for the nitro...

Linaro ICS builds for Kindle Fire?

Is anyone working on a Linaro based build of ICS for kindle fire? They have had hardware acceleration working for a long time for the pandaboard which is the same OMAP4430 SOC so it seems like it would easier to start there as no one else seems to have HW accelration working for ICS. Also they are supported by TI so it seems like it would be a good base to get HW acceleration running for ICS. Linaro doesn't make much noise but they provide very stable Android builds and I have been using the Pandaboard one for ICS and it runs great.
Does this come with gapps or do I flash seperately?

The pandaboard has a new 3.0 kernel using ICS native hw acceleration (Linaro or otherwise)
That effort is in progress here:

[Q] List of Android 4.0 ICS ROM's for Evo 4G?

Hello,
Just wondering if there's a list of ics roms for the evo 4g? I saw there was one listed on the wiki - and looks like there's one more that i noticed on the rom development forum. Don't suppose there's a list which would list install steps/requirements and what's working/not working for however many ICS roms there are?
thanks
just gotta lol at this...umm some ofthe roms working and not working can change daily sooooo i'll chime in on the ones ive used
things that arent working across the board is 4g and front facing camera (ffc)
Gummyworms 4.0.3 ics version. camera is shifty works with a fix camcorder and panoramic dont work and no hardware acceleration (hwa).
Aokp based off of 4.0.4hwa does work. seems to have a something that is buggy that keeps it rebooting but to be honest isnt happening to everyone. camera works with a fix and camcorder and panoramic dont work (i cant remember that exactly but im pretty sure they dont)
and currently im on jamies first release of kwiq ics which has hwa, based of 4.0.4, camera works with a fix but camera and camcorder are not working. buuttt i have had no reboots yet which imo means its suppper stable.
rope made a comment that was really good to explain a difference but i dont remember it soooooo aokp/gummy are awesome if you want to have built in customizations and have a lot of bugs worked through but they have been through some releases. kwiq is really stable as i said but not as much to customize out of the box. which is a trade off but i have to say this is also first release of kwiq so i think there is room to grow there
I was just about to try evervol's rom based on 4.0.3 since it seems like that one ismore stable then the newest one based on 4.0.4

Not limited to ics but it does provide ask the basic info of the ROM then a link to the xda thread

Remove IME switcher notification in

I know that the Andromadous Rom now includes a toggle to remove the ime switcher notification that is a feature in ICS. I would like to see this feature in the CM9 unofficial Beta. Is it possible to port it over? Can the framework be edited to accomplish this? I would ask in the development thread, but I still don't have the necessary number of posts. Thank you in advance.

Of course it's possible, took me 5 mins to do with Andromadus . The issue really is that the dev of the Cm9 "unofficial" ROM is trying to keep the source as close to stock cm9 as possible. It doesn't look like the dev doing that rom is actually adding his own features, just merging in cm9 code and fixing bugs where appropriate.
That said, Andromadus is also based entirely off cm9, just with added features and similar bug fixes. If you want andromadus features, use andromadus. The roms are very similar anyway.

How similar is Andromadus Beta 3 to CM9 Beta 5? Should I switch to Andromadus tests? I appreciate the response.

They're almost identical. They're both based off the CM9 source code. There are some differences in the non-CM9 code they use (hardware-specific), and as I said Andromadus does contain custom features/fixes that the other ROM does not.
Try them both. Neither ROM is an official CM9 release & both arguably contain the same amount of CM9 code.
Thank you.

[Q] We will have vsync on desire?

I am very excited seeing kernel 3.0 being developed for Desire. But we will have vsync on our device? Butter is just a new thing that is very eye-catchy and it could bring a lot of speed on JB for Desire
AFAIK the hardware is incapable of vsync, but i've seen some sort of software vsync related change in some ICS or JB (dont remember) commits. Guess it will end like hw accel for ICS, as software based hack... I trust on our fellow devs
