I'm assuming that the zoom bar is just an extension of the resistive touch screen beyond the visible screen, so what are the chances someone will make a program/hack that will let you use it for other functions, like a dpad and a mouse?
TD2 users already have it sort of working as a scroll wheel.
I've been watching the M900 on Pocketnow, and while I'm not swayed, the potential of the navigation functions of the biosensor do wow me. It'd be a welcome addition I think. I'm new to xda-dev, but whenever I've come across the name/link, it's always with effusive praise and admiration. I figure if anyone will, it will be someone here.
Bump for this one!!
As soon as I saw the zoom bar on the TD2 and TP2 and the limited functionality of usage only in messaging, web browsers and pictures, it just screamed hack hack hack
I was also thinking gestures like the Palm Pre...
ooooh... I'm intrigued! I'd like to see what some developers can put together for this. That would be a sweet feature to hack.

Agreed. The zoom bar seemed like a good idea when I first read about it, given the multitouch zooming was a no go with the resistive screen. But then in the reviews, it just seemed so under-utilized.
I'd love to have a configuration utility that let you use it in different ways in different applications, kind of like some screen rotating apps let you set up rotation differently for different apps.
Or like the Jog Dial on the hermes. (only wished the TP2 had that, and it would have been perfect. One handed control of the device...). But it will have to be pretty precise, and it isn't yet.
If it can register touch pressure (tapping) I would like 2 see 4 sectors (up down left right)

D2 Zoombar as buttons request asks for 3 buttons. Hopefully someone will do more.
Would LOVE to see 3 or 4 buttons on the zoom bar!!
(And maybe sliding button 1 to the right or button 4 to the left still means scrolling)

The main screen can tell the difference between a press and a flick, so I imagine the zoom bar could have assigned buttons and still scroll.
Hi All
For my TP2, i'd really like to have Zoom Bar that zooms ....everything!!
I would like to just zoom the screen (any screen) to a larger size. I did kinda think (or at least hope) that it was what it was going to do anyway, not just zooming pictures, browser etc.
I would like the simple (??) funtion of being able to zoom any app, any screen, anything - to be able to read stuff maybe a little more easier.
I do use glasses for reading only and it is a real drag to have to get them out to read a text clearly, or see whose calling or just to get a better look in daylight etc.
A zoom 'anything' or 'any screen' would be really awesome and a supremely useful utilisation of something that is already there. Then you couild just drag the screen around to get to what you want to see better (yes, just like a picture, so basically i guess, the current screen becomes like a picture).
The other ideas of buttons, d pads and so on all sound great too, but this would probably benefit so many people get better use out of their devices.
I wonder if it can be done...????
Cheers and happy TP2ing.

Probably better than just magnifying the screen, for readability in text heavy apps at least, would be setting font sizes to the zoom bar--zoom up, Font Sizes get larger, zoom down, they get smaller. I think that might actually be enabled in some text apps already, but I'm not sure. The touchpad on my Acer Aspire One does this in some word processors.
For things like Caller ID, a screen magnifier would be needed. I'm guessing you'd need a resident program to be able to do this anywhere and everywhere.
Thx fortunz
All true, but wouldn't the simple 'magnify the whole screen' thing be a really (really) good thing to have - and logical too. Just an extension of the way it works for images. Just seems like something that it should do.
I did notice on the HTC Manila 2.5 demo video from Germany, in the Settings area, under 'Other', there was a setting for 'HTC Magnify'.
Uncertain of any further details, but it could be just what i am talking about, maybe!
Cheers to all

I don't disagree at all.
zoom as scroll and on manila start screen not only inside
I just wish the zoom ball zommed in on pictures (going towards center of picture) rather than how it works in opera (the upper left corner)
Bump...
Anybody anything?
i would be interested to know if this is possible too.
I would luv the zoom bar to wash my car and mow the lawns for me... any chance?
....LOL....
Yeah, the zoom bar is really under-utilized. I often forget it's there and go to screen -> larger text to increase my fonts... Guess it's because it only works in a few apps. Without realizing, I've gone to settings -> screens before I realize I have a zoom bar...
Would love to see some gurus here hack this to a mini d-pad, or at least and up/down arrow. Currently, I have the vol up/down to do this using AEB.
i agree with all of these .. we need a genius programmer to make some kind of super aeb where you could have different button profiles and set a shortcut to profiles on the homescreen .. my perfect setup would be to have zoom be able to switch open applications and somehow map the back conference mute thing to play/pause in music player .. or have zoom button be able to switch songs for you (like with screen off/lock on) and hold for running applications list ... then have it all skinned pretty like some translucent palm pre thing .... lol .. just dreaming..
games
they can also utilize in racing games like as steering wheel instead of touching the screen
I'm really not a fan of the froyo/gingerbread 3D gallery, the effect is cool and all, but it's distracting and makes it annoying to use. On top of this, in CM7 the gallery seems to be giving me some battery drain due to the sensor usage for that 3D effect; yesterday the uptime for sensor usage on the gallery was 16 hours. Is there either a way to disable that 3D titling stuff, or a better replacement gallery? Now that I'm on CM7 the ONLY thing I miss about sense is the stock sense gallery, it was simple and streamlined. I don't suppose I could install the Sense gallery on my AOSP phone? Or some other gallery that isn't so flashy?
I use QuickPic & I completely removed Gallery 3D. You'll be surprised at how fast it is.
Perfect! Exactly what I needed. I will test drive it over the next few days, but already it's light years beyond that gallery3d application. Hopefully the various applications I use can recognize it as the gallery of choice with no problems, but I don't foresee any problems.
Thank you!!!
+1 on quickpic, only thing you cannot seem to set it as default for is if you are recording a video and then click the little thumbnail in the top right corner, works with camera though.
Eep... Just noticed that within Gallery3D also existed the picture frame widget, but I just downloaded from the market "Clickable Picture Frame" and it's higher quality than the stock android one. Also you can click on it to have it do something (open a contact, call a contact, text, email, etc). All is well in the evo universe today. I love this forum.
Quick pic is great...along with Hide It Pro LMFAO.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
I just sent the below email to Samsung via support website –*the form didn't even have an option for SPH-L710!!
Is there an official place to submit feature requests? Not that I have high hopes they will listen, but ...
I recently switch to this phone from an HTC Evo LTE. The Galaxy is great, takes great photos, but there are a couple things about the camera that I wish it could do like the Evo.
1. "Burst mode" -- on the Evo you don't have to change to burst mode; you can just hold down the shutter button. It also shows you all the photos instantly. On the Galaxy it takes several seconds for each one to show up. Is it because you don't have that dedicated chip inside?
2. On the Evo, there are 2 shutter buttons, 1 for stills, 1 for video. This is MUCH MUCH better than having to slide a switch, THEN start shooting.
3. You have that gesture for going to camera from lockscreen, but it still requires an unlock, causing you to 'miss the moment.' It would be much better if you could skip the unlock to just take pictures, like on the iphone (where you can TAKE pictures but not VIEW anything or switch to another app if you use the camera icon on the lockscreen.) It would be even better if you could just slide the cam icon on the homescreen and not have to unlock.

Anyone here use this? I try to snap a pic in landscape and it saves it sideways. I can always rotate it, but I shouldn't have to. Camera ICS saves them correctly.
Using Tiny's CM10.1 rom.
Does the same for me. Cant find any setting to change it. I dont actually use the app anymore, but bought it back at christmas time when they had the sales for 99 cents. Thought the effects were cool.
Just realized that it does work... The wrong way. I turned it volume buttons down and landscape worked the way it should. There doesn't seem to be a reverse landscape option though. I think I'm going to email them and ask about it.

I always hold mine that way to take pictures - and I use Camera Zoom FX a lot, I have no use for the effects but it's one of the few camera apps that handles display rotation correctly. The stock app is the worst, it rotates the whole display and with the glitchy preview it's a nightmare. Camera Zoom FX rotates the buttons and nothing else, much less stressful on my poor Dinc's GPU. It does only work in two positions though, but I never noticed that before and I take a lot of pictures (it's easier than writing stuff down - lol).

I do like the stock camera and the way it's integrated with the gallery, but it just sucks on the Dinc. CZFX is a really good alternative. Camera ICS is nice but I like the look and features of this one more. I emailed them on the 21st. Still haven't gotten a reply. Volume buttons down just feels upside-down to me. lol. Hopefully they'll implement a reverse landscape feature sometime. Until then, I can deal. Just made it my default cam and assigned it to the Search hardware button. I don't use it anyway, so it's nice to have a dedicated camera button. I use QuickPic as a gallery, so I deleted the Gallery2 apk. Freed up some system space. Default gallery seems to take forever to refresh after I move pics around with a file manager (even after hitting refresh).
Hi,
Coming from a P4XL, I used a lot the AE/AF locking function in the camera app when tapping the padlock icon.
However It seems there is no more AE/AF lock option in the P6XL camera app.
It was extremely useful to create hi-res panoramas.
Did I miss something or is it really gone?
I think I've noticed the same thing. At least, I was wondering if it changed and it automatically locks when I manually click on something I'm looking at in the camera app, or what.
