Shaving Down Original Battery Door LTE Nexus - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

So if you look at the original Battery door which many say fits over the extended battery it has a bunch of lips where the battery is to hold it down.
If someone were to shave those down, with like a nail fail or sand paper, do you think that would be enough to take the extra pressure off the battery and thus be able to use the original cover and not worry about damaging the phone?
Just interested in peoples thoughts, and maybe someone is more talented than I can try it (I already chipped it).

I doubt it. The extended battery cover has a slightly outward contour to wrap around the extended battery's slightly larger size.

It doesnt even add enough to make me want to try shaving down my old door really

I was going to give this a try this but my dremel died a few weeks ago. I think it would work though. I'm able to get the factory backing over the extended battery with all but 1 of the tabs snapped in (with a lot of stress on the backing/battery though).

Yeah, I really am curious, not just to make the phone thinner, its more for the cases.
The phone does have a nicer "feel" with the extended battery, but when I put a case on, my choices are WAY limited due to the extended battery. But I choose function over form any day.
That being said, if this allows original backing + no stress on battery and results in being able to use any case I want, that is... to quote Charlie Sheen... winning.

Along these same lines...sort of, would there be any problem anyone can think of using the regular battery with the extended cover with some kind of thin plastic or something (I'm thinking maybe just a guitar pick or piece of an old credit/gift card) as a spacer?
I tried it out and didn't like the give that there was without any kind of spacer to fill the gap.
Also, as long as it was something like a piece of plastic as opposed to something that would cause interference, this wouldn't affect NFC, right?
I don't care as much about a case as I do not having to carry around multiple phone backs.

I did a bit of sanding/scraping/cutting to thin the battery area of my stock door. It certainly doesn't fit as easily as the extended door, but I was able to click it into place with significantly less force than was required before my modifications. I may do a bit more fiddling when I'm back at work and have access to a heat gun to take out some of the bend at the bottom of the door. Until then, it feels like there is significantly less stress on the door and my incipio case fits with nearly no gap between the hard and soft cases.
Now I just have to hope this doesn't somehow destroy my screen. Guess that's what insurance is for!

[Q] i9100 replacement battery cover

Does anyone know if I can pickup a replacement Battery cover for my GS2? I picked my phone up this morning and noticed some scuff marks on the back of my beloved phone. Could I call Samsung and get one do you think?
i'd actually be intersted in getting metal one, the plaggy one feels a bit to flimsy to me, although a metal version would be harder to get off and on.
i'd be quite interested in some coloured battery covers actually - either metal or plastic.
accessories seem a bit thin on the ground at the moment though ...
I'd prefer it if you could buy a battery cover with a kick stand built in!
Anymode have back covers.
metal wouldnt be no good as the phone will over heat,
Really? Why would metal make the phone overheat, wouldn't it be more conductive than the plastic?

the opposite if anything, in fact
although id prefer plastic since its so light lol

Btw the plastic cover dissipates heat better than metal because of it's meshed surface => more surface exposed to air => more dissipation than plain slick metal or plastic.

Surely a metal back would conduct heat away from the phone better than a plastic back hence why computer chips are cooled by metal coolers and not plastic ones

Still no replacement cover out?
Also interested in another battery cover. Might just make the phone 100% perfect instead of 99%
wouldn't be kind of impossible to get the cover into place?

deas anyone have any problems with backcover.
When you pout your nail to open back cover it pops up for about 1mm or 1,5 mm in the air and does not close to the main suface of the phone.
All clicks are good bak on the left and up, but on the upper right it sticks out. I'm going to servise tommorow and I'll see what will they say (100% they will say that it is my faulth)

Metal would always be a better conductor of heat but the real problem with having a metal battery panel would be the shielding affected to the radio components of the phone. IE the effect on 3g, WIFI and bluetooth and a possible reduction in signal strength. Many phones with metal back covers and cases have grounding connections on the the covers to the motherboards of the phones to stop this problem. The SGS2 was not designed to have a metal battery cover so would not have these connections. The cover is designed to be thin and light and is there purely to hold the battery in and cover the sim and memory card so why have it made of metal?
sure but still: the back cover is made of cheap plastic. i really had to fight against myself to not open the cover as usual. it took me some minutes to take off the cover without breaking anthing. thats it for me tho. forget the metal...but the plastic is just really really thin imho. and the feel is kinda crappy....metal is the better choice here.
Does anyone know of a replacement battery case or phone case which makes the knob (? dunno the right word for it) at the bottom just as high as the rest of the phone? So that it makes it plain.
I really dislike that knob. The phone never lies straight and it feels awkward in the hands. I wish they had kept the height of the knob at the bottom and made it more like the LG X2 or so.
Not seen one as yet but no doubt there will be a higher capacity battery come on to the market. This would probably be from a third party manufacture with a replacement battery cover that will take up this space that you talk about. Seen many for HTC phones so I am sure there will be one for the SGS2.

I hope so. If someone makes a 4000 mamp battery it MIGHT last nearly a day.

Any cases or covers with its own....

IMHO having a protective case/cover is essential to protecting your device & hard earned money.
The one thing I noticed though is that all the cases I've looked at cover the existing battery door, which makes getting to the battery, if need be, a little more of a hassle. To do so one would have to remove the protective case/cover, remove the OEM battery door & then reassemble when done.
Are there any covers that have their own built in battery door?
If I had an iPhone (yeah right! ) then it wouldn't be a problem nor a concern (that is until the battery craps out )

VZW holster/shell + official extended battery. Does it fit or not?

I've been reading a lot about cases lately and currently have the VZW shell/holster combo.
The question is, does it fit? Some people said it fits but not perfect, others said it doesn't at all.
I'm very confused.
Anyone have any actual results?
I'm thinking of switching cases anyway since this one doesn't seem like it has enough protection.
It fits, but not perfect.
It fits snug at the top but leaves a small gap across the bottom edge, leaving enough room for dust to get in. The phone has never popped out of the case on me but I do have to clean under there at least once a week.
I think it fits the best (natural fit) when the extended battery is on, and the battery door is off. So basically the shell acts as a battery door. Otherwise there is a slight bulge in the case on the bottom if the extended battery door is on.
It really does not fit. It looks like it might fit at first, but as said above, the bottom of the phone sticks out a little further than the lip of the case. What this means is that when you slide the phone into the holster, the bottom of the phone actually slides against the holster instead of the case only sliding against the holster. This worried me as it could eventually leave marks on the phone itself.

I am trying this now and it does definitely fit like this. I'm a little worried not having the back on the phone will allow dust to get into places it shouldn't, but the VZW case seals it up fairly well unless you use the built-in stand.
To update my own thread.
I ended up getting the extended battery and it does not fit snug in the holster/shell combo. I did NOT end up trying with the battery door off as for one, I want to be able to use the phone as a whole and not have it in pieces and I do not want dust in the back.

Is it the door or the extended battery itself that causes fitting issues?

Is it the door or the extended battery itself that causes fitting issues?
Like with the battery door off my VZW my phone fits into the standard holster/shell combo.
Do most of the fitting issues for the device come from the door then when it's on? The battery size isn't all that much bigger than the std one.

Not sure I fully understand what you are asking but I'll give it a shot.
So there is the standard 1850mAh battery with a standard door (battery cover?) that comes with the Verizon Nexus. Then there is the 2100mAh extended battery that is just under a millimeter thicker than the 1850. The extended battery comes with a different battery cover that is more rounded, especially towards the bottom, to allow room for the extended battery. Being more rounded at the bottom is what I believe causes problems with the phone not fitting properly into certain docks/holsters and what not.
The standard battery cover has the slight lip at the bottom which is what most cases and things are molded to, and this lip is quite a bit different when compared to the contour of the extended battery cover, hence you have problems with cases not fitting. So I think the extended battery cover is more to blame than the extended battery itself. It seems like they made the cover more rounded than it needs to be, because like you said, the extended battery is not that much bigger at.
Yes it's the door. The prongs are longer and the door sits out farther ever so slightly. Most cases can be manually bent slightly at the center to give them a curve that fits the new back. Do so carefully though. Better to bend slightly a bit at a time than to try to force it.

the impossible to find case

unlike most people i prefer soft silicone cases. it makes the phone stick to damn near any surface and that is important for me. i would LOVE to find a case that integrates the silicone into the back battery cover (replaces the cover) and also follows the shape of the phone to the sides (bumpers). i have seen some "hybrid" cases that are metal/plastic on the back with silicone bumpers but they are cases and not battery cover replacements.
anyone understand what im shooting for? its not so much protection from being dropped but more the ability for the phone to "not slip" on various surfaces.
i would also entertain a combination of soft silicone bumpers and a different battery cover as long as the silicone bumper is raised off the back and front enough to provide grip/protection.

Not sure how you would make a battery cover out of silicone. Probably wouldnt stay on the phone to well lol...
could have plastic attachment points, but i just dont want a super thick silicone case.

Personally I have a "carbon" skin on the back plate, and an aluminum bumper, but I had looked into getting a silicone one. The sticker on the back A) looks cooler B) gets rid of the stupid Tmobile branding, and C) does make it a littler easier to grip in hand, but I doubt it adds much grip to other surfaces.
I would think it pretty unlikely that there will be what you are looking for unless you were to make one/have one made. You might be able to find some sort of stick on product to attach to the battery cover though. I am thinking you could maybe take one of those pads designed to put on your dashboard to make things stick to the pad, and instead apply it directly to your phone. Might be pretty thick though, but that would also give you some protection. Then you could get a silicone bumper on ebay for a few bucks and have something similar to what you are looking for.

So, you basically want the opposite setup of an Otterbox? Soft silicone on the back?
This crazy query netted me a ton of results. Note 2 silicone case.
This isn't exactly what you are looking for, as you need the harder case to snap into the battery compartment, but it might be a start?

I would hate to have to put your phone into any sort of pocket, lol!
Not sure if you'll ever find once since the NFC chip is integrated into the battery door which means whoever makes a replacement will have to include a NFC chip (which I don't see as very likely)
Oh, good point, didn't think of that.
double sided tape on the back of your choice of cases.
i have already ordered a simple silicone case with screen covers for the day to day until i find what im looking for.
also i found this last night after making this post
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Soft-Silico...1?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item43b5c04917#shId
say delivery time is a month or so LOL but its only a few $ and looks like it has silicone edges front and back. i figure this will work great with a dark blue brushed aluminum back cover that seems to get so much love/hate on this forum.
There are a ton of bumpers. That's not the hard part. What you wont find is a silicone backplate, for the reasons listed above.

You actually don't have to have the NFC chip on the battery door. There's a ton of replacement back doors on eBay for the Note II that explicitly state no NFC in their description so it's not a requirement per say as long as the person buying it knows and is fine with not having NFC.
Personally, I went and bought one of those battery door replacements with built in flip cover for the front on eBay and made sure to buy one that did have the NFC chip. I doubt I'll ever use it but just in case.
When I looked though there was a ton that said no NFC.
yea, i really dont care about nfc... why not have a plastic battery cover with a rubbery/silicone back coating? does not have to be thick like a case, just enough to keep everything from sliding around... sounds simple enough.
If you don't mind modifying your backplate and really just want to ensure that it does not slide around as much, you might try applying a few thin layers of this - http://www.homedepot.com/buy/perfor...ubber-coating-spray-11203-6.html#.UKvGrod9JjY

The "CHIP" isn't in the battery door, the antenna plate is which is a lot easier to duplicate than the electronics.

It's also stuck on there. With enough patience and motivation it could be removed and attached to a new backplate. Might ruin the original, but that's replaceable.

True, but my point still stands, meaning most manufacturers won't want to tackle that problem. And yes, if you don't care about NFC then this doesn't really matter.
possible?

About the Plasti-Dip: I tried applying it to a Nexus S a while ago, and it peeled off very quickly, starting at the edges.
Anyone looking for a case to protect their note shoiuld try the otterbox defender... it really is worth the price and isnt as bulky as some are made to believe
