Dialer Command ##3282# - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

I recently used the dialer command ##3282# or (##data#) to change Sprint Network information to see if it would speed up my 3G (helped a "little"). Well I was going to go and set it back to default settings again to compare speeds, but now when I enter the command, nothing happens. So I see no way to change it back. I am sure it has something to do with something I flashed, but has anyone else seen this happen and/or have a possible work around?
Thanks

oops gave you thanks for a question...lol that alright nbd.
for me when that happens it is something i did with the dialer as in it is not the stock dialer...either it got themed..etc.
that is just what I have seen in the past.

Thanks for you reply. Well i can't give your thanks back, all I can do is give you one in turn. LOL
Well I am still stock dialer, So not sure. I have rooted, added CWM, that's about it. I have a few things frozen, so I am going to play with that....
EDIT: Seems as if it was from freezing "com.android.sprintmenu"

lol...hey it is xmas time for giving.....yea if you have things frozen that could also do it, good luck.
you could also do a backup go back to complete stock 13...ie no frozen apps.... do the change then restore if you cant find the app you froze.

##DATA# Not working on my phone anymore? Why?

It says "initializing resource" or something like that, then just does nothing once that window disappears. I'm still on the dialer.
This happened right after I installed Baked Snack. Whats up with that. Anyone heard of this and know the solution? Just figured I'd ask.
Thanks.
Not all ROM's are created equal, that is not part of the Baked Goods in the ROM you are using.
Son of a *****! (not you) I thought I finally found a ROM where everything I wanted worked. The search continues....
I used to have a problem similar to that, try doing that with your wifi turned on and connected.

It worked! You, sir, are - howyousay - the man.
Having your MSL from your provider and not using an emergency dialer would also help if the WiFi thing doesn't work on another ROM

[Q] How do I get data back on my Evo?

Here's what happened:
Called Sprint because I was unable to send out SMS although I was able to receive. I was on the device at the time of the call and I asked the rep if she wanted to call me on another phone. She said that what she had to do didn't involve me being on a different line. I found it kind of weird but I figured she knew what she was talking about.
She tells me that she's done doing what she was doing and that I had to reboot my phone. I disconnect the call reboot my phone and test out the SMS. It works but now my data doesn't work at all. I'm using Cyanogen RC1 and I see no 1X or 3G at the top. I can s/r calls as well as s/r sms.
I called again and the guy knew I was using Cyanogen's ROM (I guess they have a way to do that now). He tried basic troubleshooting but we couldn't fix it. How do I fix this? I remember seeing a website link in a thread a while back that contained all the different PRL versions available for download in a .zip file that we could flash in recovery. Does anyone have the website?
I tried rebooting. Should I do a nandroid restore? I have a feeling it's network related so I don't know if that will fix the issue.
Have you tried flashing a sense or stock rom and see if you get text messages there. Worth a shot. If not give your nandroid a shot or even a full wipe install.
I'm going to a nandroid restore right now. I already backed up all my apps and stuff.

Good luck!
No luck. I'm on the phone with Sprint right now and all of the reps I speak to are lost. I know it's a network issue and something not being enabled on their side.
Ok I got off the phone with them and still haven't resolved my issue. They are claiming they can't help me because my phone is rooted. They wanted me to press ##3282 commands but Cyanogen doesn't have those functions built in.
This mess all started off with a texting problem. The thing that baffles me is that SMS has nothing to do with data.

Yup, that was my idea.
I'm still a bit taken back at the fact they knew which rom you were using.
Yeah man the guy was like " I'm looking at your account and I was checking what version you were using and it says Fresh". I told him that it was what I was using before but I'm using Cyanogen now.
They somehow know what version. I think they somehow send a signal to your device so it can send back the info that's in the about section. I thought it was pretty cool. He kept stressing that my warranty was void.

[Q] Okay I give up.. Text Message problem..

First let me apologize for making this longer then maybe need be. However I want to make sure I point out everything that I think matters. Okay here it goes...
I cannot receive text messages. I can send them, however. Now, I run Cyan, the newest version (6.1 Stable). I have the newest everything.. Radios, Wimax, I mean everything. If I use Nandroid and revert it back to a state a week ago, my texts still will not work, even though it was working at that point in time I made the back-up. I mean I've uninstalled, re-installed, re-applied, re-flashed, re-EVERYTHING and nothing works. The internet, phone calls, any other software, works perfectly fine. I just cannot receive texts and I hope someone can help me out. Even if you think it may not work, I will try it. I thank anyway willing to read this, and trust me I'll check this all the time to see if anyone has a suggestion.
Are you using the stock messaging app? Or are you using something like Handcent? How are you trouble shooting this, are you sending yourself text messages and they aren't coming through? Have you posted on the Cyan thread to see if there are similar problems?
I am not sure what it is or what it could be. are you checking the stock message app and making sure they are there and just not showing up in a 3rd party messaging app?

I am using both. Well first I tried Handcent (since that's what I had installed), but then when I flashed to a brand new ROM, all I had was stock, and that still didn't work. Also yes I checked their forums and kids had problems with texting, but unlike mine. Also they had different phones. Anywho, I am testing this with 3 of my friends, and sending myself (if I think I'm doing something different) with AIM or my mother's phone. I don't know man, I just, don't, know. It's really irritating me though. Thank you though for reading all that and trying to help, it is a mystery.

Go back into recovery, wipe the cache and dalvik at least twice each and reboot. After you've rebooted, update your profile in the settings menu. That *should* help you out.

Hey buddy, I wiped the cache about 5 times in a row, (Juuuust incase, also the dalvik) I've now tried switching back to older radios and older everything. But I can't seem to install ANY sense roms for some reason now. What the heck is going on all of a sudden? Like Fresh, Ava, Re-Engineer, and nothing.
Also, I went here..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=791019
But when my phone boots up, it'll check the .Zip, stop half way, and restart in an endless loop.. So it's like I'm stuck on Cyanogen, and my texts won't come in. I don't know I'm sure everyone is thinking the same thing I am, which is I'm crap out of luck.
Hey there, I fixed my problem, and the only reason I am responding is to not waste anyone else's time, and who knows maybe someone else eventually will have this problem.
Anyway, I'm not sure what exactly fixed it, but I went into recovery, deleted every single thing I could delete, Hell, I even deleted the sdcard stuff (I'd imagine it makes no difference, but I was desperate). I installed the "Ava" rom and for some reason when I deleted and formatted Everything, "AVA" was actually able to boot up, the moment I went through the steps with Sense, it asked me to log in, and I did. A couple seconds later, I heard "Dling, dling, dling, dling, dling.." for a straight minute. Then all at once I had my 68 messages. ...Which makes me wonder, where the F were they before they got to my phone? Just floating around in the air? Like did the text message float to my phone when I was on Cyanogen and say, "Nope, nevermind." and float back away only to return when I put AVA on? ...Phew.. Sorry, just relieved. Thanks everyone who tried helping, I appreciate it!
Simple answer to what happened:
Sometimes EPST updates the radio's profile and PRL and all that in the background. Since CM doesn't have EPST, it can't do that, and after a while it "expires". You basically just have to flash a Sense ROM and it'll fix it.
Now, as for your "unable to boot" problem, that's due to the new radio version not being compatible with older HTC kernels. Only AOSP and 3.70-based kernels can boot with the latest radio.
Ta-da!

No kidding? That's amazing, you're the champ. Thank you for the explaination, it makes perfect sense. I'm not to um, cell phone savvy yet so this is new to me. However now I know to always keep a Sense ROM on my sdcard just for that sake alone. Thanks again man.

[Q] Any tricks or ways to speed up the download speed on CM7?

I'm using CM7 and I am experiencing very slow download speeds. On sense roms I would use ##data# to correct this but as we all know that doesn't work on AOSP roms so does anyone know anyways I could speed up my downloads?
ya i know how
WIFI is the way to go u better thank me
This is what finally worked for me-- just posted this earlier:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=13478940&postcount=24
And the link to the fix: http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-tips-tricks/280082-major-solution-fix-your-slow-3g-speeds-evo4g.html
Follow it to the 'T' .. it seems to be working for most. Dramatic 3G speed increases.
And, wrong section,
Does that trick work for CM7 roms?
I skimmed, but it says not for ASOP roms....
yes-- but fix is applied in a sense rom, then restore backup of CM7. It's all in the instructions.
EDIT. hah. I guess that's not in the instructions.
Ya, backup your CM7 setup. Flash a sense rom (I used Mik) , they do the fix following instructions exactly, then restore your full cm7 nandroid backup without wiping.
Also, try this, so you dont hit 1x. Go to your AOSP rom's dialer. Type in: *#*#4636#*#*
Select Phone Information.
Scroll down to Set Preferred Network Type (you'll see its on CDMA auto(PRL))
We want to change this to CDMA only!
Then just back out and you should be set!
Odd.. i was happy with my speeds after fix, but plugged in the code just to look around, but didnt save changes. Noticed today my speeds are back down to 5kb/s down.
But the weirdest part is, when i punch in the code now, nothing happens.
Prl is still the same as before. Ill apply the fix again, but just curious...
You have to select cdma only and hit menu then select radio band.. it will force close.. go back and check and see if it saved..this is what I did and I worked for me
Or it might be the other way around idk give it a shot dude!

Possible Fix - - Loss of Use

Hey guys,
Please dont flame if this doesnt work, BUT after i got a LOS event, i decided to go into the ##DATA# menu to just look around for any sort of settings to help.
I did ##data#, then EDIT, then enter your MSL. i went into Other>Multimedia, backed out, then DSS.
My radio reset itself and got reception/data back!
Give it a try next time u got a LOS problem and report back here....
Sean
I followed that all the way to the DSS. What do you mean by that?

Rebooting seems a lot simpler and less of a chance of screwing up any default settings. unless Samsung comes out with a new modem software , im sticking to rebooting. Besides, my phone doesn't really loose signal, only happened once so far since launch day. Just lucky I guess.
My phone gets LOS only when I'm in certain areas, and I used to do a reboot whenever I noticed it.
Now I just have a tasker profile set up so that whenever I get LOS, the phone reboots automatically, unless I'm using it. LOS doesn't bother me anymore.

Please show how you have done this. I can't seem to figure out how to set that variable.
This worked for my LOS issue but make sure you have the stock kernel before trying it.
Some users said this worked for them. I just tried it this morning so time will tell.
***I think you need the stock Kernel or else you might get a bootloop
The MSL can be found by downloading "terminal emulator" and typing "getprop ril.MSL" It is case sensitive.
From there, go to the phone, and type ##72786# , at the SCRTN screen select yes, let the phone reboot, let the activation go through its thing NOT TOUCHING THE SCREEN unless it tells you to. Let it do a reboot again.

Yes. There's a 95% chance you'll get LOS. Some times, you can go into Roaming, but then when you try to go to Automatic, you'll get LOS. Because Roam Control itself's method of changing networks is turning off the radio. The issue is LOS prevents it from turning back on.
Haha sorry guys, I was asleep. Of course I'll share!
I made a new thread for this because I don't want to interrupt the OP's thread. It can be found here:

Cheers.
I haven't had LOS in over TWO WEEKS!!
All I did was odin the stock kernel on top of my stock rooted rom and voila the yellow triangle at boot up was gone.
I still have all my su permissions for wifi tether and other apps that need su permission. I only lost my cwm recovery, but I don't need that when the rom is stable, phone works perfect and does not LOS EVER!!!
Coming from the Evo 4G I had Juice Defender Ultimate installed on it and carried it over into the Epic Touch. For the longest time I was having issues with LOS and through trial and error and a couple flashed kernels and ROMS, at least one thing I do know now is that this program on extreme setting will kill signals on the Epic. IDK why this is because I used the extreme setting on the Evo. I changed it to "Aggressive" instead of Extreme and my issues with LOS are pretty much done.
