EI22 Touchscreen Problems & Delayed Lock Screen - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys, I have been having some touchscreen problems after upgrading to EI22. What happens is the touchscreen works, and than suddenly when I try to tap on something, the area I tapped on doesn't respond unless I reapeatedly tap it to get it working. What's weird is different parts of the screen continue to work. Its not my digitizer because when I flashed Froyo via Odin the problems dissapeared. I flashed GB using the rooted EI22 rom on xda. Help would be appreciated. Also the lock screen has a delay opening which I noticed on my Fascinate too. This problem occurs on GB and stops when I remove the sd card. I've heard others complain about this problem.
Edit: I have this problem on any EI22 rom, Thunderhawk, Marcusant, etc. I am on Marcusant now though. I flashed with ACS 5.0 cwm after odining EI22. I formatted and wiped dalvik prior. I am using a vcast verizon micro usb cable if that makes any diff. Btw I'm using the kernel that comes with Marcusant. I've tried other kernels.-Dan

Do you see this on stock GB too? I only ask because most of you statement sounds wake locky/setCpuie/oc/uv-esque to me.
If so you would not see it manifest on stock. May be worth rokken it for a day. Makes you have c,razy appreication for the devs and sets you up to take it in if need be too.
Just my 2 c,ents.

Does this happen to you ?

Lately I've been really annoyed with phone, for some reason it just randomly reboots for God knows what reasons! Is this common or even a known issue ?
Are you running stock or a custom rom and kernel? I've never had a reboot with stock or on Starburst with lostkernel.

I dunno man, if that isn't happening without some 'aftermarket modifications', umm, I'd swap the damn phone. That isn't normal. I never get reboots unless I am overclocking on perf gov with everything maxed out...and that's pretty much it. If you are getting reboots just sitting there or dicking around on the internet that would be more than enough reason for me to take it in and swap it out...especially if you can reproduce the it for them.
Thanks for the replies guys, to answer your questions no I'm completely stock running stock kernel and it happens whenever I'm online or some apps will trigger it. I'd hate to restore but I think it's the only way
Ive had it a couple times.
It started after uploading app from market installing it while I was deleting one at same time
device crashed reboot took place.
From that point a had a couple reboots within days Touchwiz error displaying automatically going to phone keypad no escape from it.
I ended up doing factory reset fixed it all is well
did you by chance take an SD card out if another phone and pop it into that phone? if so, back up whatever data is on it, and try formatting it (if that cures the reboots, obviously something on the sd is corrupt and not cooperating with the system... dont restore anything from that backup you took after formatting) I would then try a facotry reset if the previous doesn't work. if the factory reset doesn't cure it, I'd swap the phone.

Thanks guys, I installed all the apps I could to the sd card. In other words all the apps were in the internal memory and that seems to fix the issue.
I'm not rooted and I'm getting random reboots.

Urban precision v2 rom function problem

Ok, u guys know that last night I installed the urban precision v2 rom. The akward part is, it was working fine for awhile, and then a couple hrs later, I started having all kinds of problems. My phone froze up, no buttons wanted to work and it was rebooting all kinds of ways. Especially the fact it rebooted into cwm and then it also when into download mode. I had to pull the battery, go into cwm. Do a factory reset and restore my nandroid back to cleangb. Can this sudden issue be a problem with the rom or kernel? Plus when it was working fine with this rom at the begining, my phone was running super fast. I mean like no lag what so ever. So any idea what may caused this sudden issue? Cuz I honestly don't know.

[Q] Does CRT-OFF animation cause general lag?

So, here's why I ask this.
I updated to stock FC09 as soon as it was available. After a day I did the one mod that I can't live without, circular 1% battery using UOT kitchen. Ran the phone that way for a few days without issues. Then I started missing CRT-OFF. I edjumicated myself on how to edit the line of code to enable CRT-OFF by decompiling and editing the framework-res file and then flashed the modded file. All worked well for a few hours, then the phone started slowing down and getting choppy. Rebooting only helped for a short time, then the phone got laggy again. So, I went ahead and reflashed the original mod with only the battery mod (no CRT OFF), and I've been running the phone like that for several days now without a reboot and it's been super smooth.
So the question is;
Does the CRT animation slow down the phone or is it just a coincidence that my phone got laggy after I did the mod?
BTW, here's the link to the instructions I followed to create the modded framework:
http://www.freeyourandroid.com/guide/enable-crt-animation
I've done almost the same as you. I went from cm7 to stockFC09 and I've noticed some lagging with the whole rom in general. Even EL30 and FB15 worked better in my opinion. I even flashed stock FC09 on my cousins phone and his phone lags and freezes 10 times more than mine. So I kinda think there's something wrong with FC09 completely.

I think it is using themes and mode for el30 on a new rom that is not el30.

I think it is the Sprint Connections optimizer. I disabled it and my wifi doesn't error out or cause any freezes.

That may be it cuz at times (in my basment where I barely reach my wifi and have weak 4g) I turn on both wifi and 4g and I usually get freezes and reboots and the phone lags like hell. So I'm guessing your right in my case.

Not in my case. I'm on stock FC09 right now and it's about the same as EL30. It was only after I added CRT off that it got laggy and freezy. Uninstalling CRT off got rid of the lag for me.

Random reboots

I was on Calkulins ics 1.4 and just switched to CM9. I was and still am getting random reboots on both of these. The only thing that's stayed the same is my FD02 modem. I have not updated it yet. Could the modem/version cause issues like this or is it most likely something else?

Did it happen when you were running Gingerbread? I have heard this is not too uncommon when running the ICS leaks because they are not final yet. Also I hope you have a Epic touch because in your post it says you are using a Motorola Startac. If that is the phone you are using, you are on the wrong forum.
Also what root method did you use? When I first got my phone I rooted using the root that gives you the yellow triangle and I got crazy random reboots and random shut downs. I returned to stock then re rooted using Sfhubs latest root method and I have not had one problem since.
Are you using SetCPU?

Its a known issue with the FC and FD leaked builds. It has been getting progressively better with each new leak. If you're in a good reception area you should be ok. Most resets are occurring when going in and out off 4G roaming.
The only real fix at this point is to go back to an FB build (I think FB27 was the last one without the reset issue)or Gingerbread.
It didn't happen on GB. Only on Calkulins last rom and CM9. Not using SetCPU. I'll try an older modem before I go back to GB.
Also has there been issues where after opening an app the menu box starts popping up without touching the menu button? It happens in my Gmail, browser (stock), and Waze GPS. I also only noticed this on these last couple ics roms.

Ya, from what I have seen that is also a known issue. I would go back to Gingerbread. I am not switching untill everything is smooth and stable.
Same problem here. I was doing fine and dandy on the GB kernels and roms and then i made the switch to the Venum/CM9 and everything just started rebooting. I went back to stock rom/kernel el 29 but i still get reboots. I've tried everything and i just have to narrow things down.

Cm7 dropped keys and swype issues.

So I'm running cm7 with nyan kernel and when I type on my keyboard it sometimes misses a character. Is this kernel related would flashing another kernel fix it? I remember this was a problem back on froyo and there was the flashable zips to fix it but I haven't seen anything like that in a while.
Also, I restored a backup of my swype keyboard (the blue one from most of the tw themes) and it works perfectly, but everytime I reboot I get all these FC's on it and it doesn't go away until I restore "app only" in tb. Its not that big of a problem but its annoying. Is there any way to get rid of that? I believe it also is a cm7 related issue since it didn't happen to me on tw or cm9.

I've had a similar problem with CM9 Nightly on Nyan ICS. Once I unrooted back to stock using ODIN and rooted again (clean install) with the same ROM, with a different kernel this time, my keyboard seemed to run smooth.
My keyboards problem was it would disappear outta the blue.. I had to exit out of my messaging app completely, sometimes even thatt wouldn't do it.
Hope that helps somehow!

I currently went back to tpr so if I go back I will try to flash a different kernel cuz I was also using nyan kernel so maybe that would help. Thanks.
