Nandroid Backup Failure

Allow me to preface this by stating my credentials. I've been rooted and have flashed most every ROM created since day one. I'm no stranger to the processes involved.
Just recently, this started happening. If I create a nandroid backup, then try to restore it, the boot animation just goes forever. It doesn't boot loop, it just keeps going.
This has happened with both CWM3 and CWM5, when trying to restore ICS backups. I've tried flashing the VR Superwipe with no luck either. I've also tried Fixing Permissions.
Has anyone had similar situations that could offer a solution?

Only ICS backups? Did you install a different hboot?

Well I've only tried it with ICS cause I've been running them since January.
I'm using Hboot .92

I personally haven't run into issues with restoring ICS backups using CWM 3.0.0.8. I've done the same process for GB and ICS restore, which is:
1) boot into recovery
2) backup rom
3) flash a new rom then realize I need to restore for some reason
4) boot into recovery then wipe data, format boot, & format system
5) restore and enjoy
I've done this on ICS roms AOKP and CM9 with no issues. I'm not sure how to find a fix if you have used CWM 3 and CWM 5 unsuccessfully.

If you've used the same hboot the whole time that can't be the problem. Try reflashing recovery with ROM Manager and use the "erase recovery before flashing" option.

data.img damaged? stuck on HTC, even after nandroid.. CWM failed backup?

After accidentally installing D2W over A2SD, I tried to revert to my nandroid. Wouldn't boot. Tried advance restoring over a clean A2SD flash, and it seems
it's the data file that's causing it to get stuck on the HTC screen - I restored just that and it failed to boot.
I'm guessing CWM didn't backup properly (although the MD5 seems to check out fine). Does that mean I've basically lost all my data? Is there a way to salvage anything? Can I extract any data manually?

Wiped everything (except FAT32-partition of SD card) before restoring backup? How long did you wait for booting?

Yup, full wipe. Waiting about 7 mins on the HTC screen after nandroid. Usually takes 1 min to get to the boot screen. Full wiped again, install clean ROM (MIUI), booted fine. I didn't know that CWM could make faulty backups

Just use the best recovery one can currently get:

Thanks, I'll do that now. Haven't upgraded my recovery since the first unrevoked came out..
Though so far the 4ext app keeps failing to flash the recovery.. even after rebooting / reinstalling busybox

[Q] bricked my toro while on vicious jelly bean v1

my phone was running amazing
then i turned off my phone so that i could turn it back on it wouldnt got past the google boot screen
now every rom i flashed and kernal and radio combo
has rebooted it self at boot animation to repeat
Any Sugestions?

Wipe data

wiped data and cache and dalvik while doing this

restores with stock 4.0.4 .....

even tried restoring another rom but it goes all fine till /data then in the middle of restoring /data it has error on all my restores and fails

when i did the google factory image restore it wiped everything now how do u put files on sd card without going into usb debugging

Are these verified working restores?
If not... .img's over 2gigs cannot be restored.
This is an AOSP issue...
(TWRP allows you to enable compression...thus shrinking you're backups to smaller than 2gigs...but that's of no use to you currently).
A few users have also reported bootlooping after flashing something else...or nandroid restoring even without errors.
I had no such problems.
Flash stock images, if all else fails.

Same thing happened to me on v2 and I was using TWRP. Backed up /data/media rebooted into boot loader and ran fastboot -w and it booted right up. Using cwm to be safe now
EDIT: MAKE SURE YOU BACKUP /DATA/MEDIA BEFORE DOING FASTBOOT -W OR ALL YOUR SDCARD DATA WILL BE GONE!!!

[Q] i747 fail to boot after every power cycle.

Here's the short and sweet of it. I am on an i747, running TWRP 2.4.4.0, and PACMAN ROM current nightly. Then I updated to 4.6.3.0 TWRP. Recently my phone lost power ( I forgot to charge it). Then it would boot. I tried to do a restore in TWRP and it would fail at data. I tried flashing a ROM, fail at running updater. I tried to restore, again it would fail at data. Nothing would install or restore. Finally, in desparation, I formatted data. Then, after all of internal was wiped, I could restore from a backup.
Problem fixed right? No.
If I reboot, shutdown, crash, lose power, or in anyway power cycle, the phone fails to boot until I completely format data and do restore. WTF is going on? I'm currently trying to downgrade TWRP to see if TWRP is the issue but I doubt it is.
EDIT: 16:23 The problem is in DATA. I used TWRP backup to restore JUST system and boot and it didn't fix the issue. Something is messing up stuff somewhere in /Data. When attempting to restore data, I sometimes get an error about data/lost+found but I can't reproduce the error right now

Softbricked and unable to flash/wipe/format/restore

My galaxy nexus suddenly crashed yesterday. I don't know what happened, I only know that I had the xPrivacy installer and "App Ops". It's a rooted phone with TWRP recovery v2.8.6.0 and CyanogenMod 10.2. The only problem I had so far was WhatsApp not displaying any chats and had to restore my chats. I do suspect these two are linked to each other
When I try to boot it normally, it crashes after a couple seconds and gets stuck booting and crashing again until I take out the battery.
After fiddling around for a while, all the errors pointed at the data partition, but it seems like I just can't write anything to the internal SD.
What I've tried to fix it is (not necessarily in this order):
Wiped (Dalvik)Cache
Factory reset via TWRP
Restore a recent nandroid backup via TWRP (this says it failed)
Restore a nandroid backup that I made after a factory reset via TWRP (this says it failed)
Restore a nandroid backup via Nexus Root Toolkit
Create a backup (just to test if I could write, it said it succeeded but after a reboot there was no backup)
Wipe data partition TWRP
Used "fix permissions" on TWRP
Formatting SD via TWRP
Wiped all partitions via TWRP
"Flash Stock + Unroot" on Nexus Root Toolkit (Soft-Bricked/Bootloop mode)
Flashed CM10.2 via TWRP
Flashed CM10.2 via Nexus Rootkit
Flashed stock ROM via ADB
Deleted all data via Windows Explorer
Hard Factory reset via ADB
Everything says it was successful, except when restoring a backup via TWRP and a single time I tried wiping the Data partition. I once got an error message saying a file was opened too many times, but I think that is just because it couldn't read the file.
Besides unlocking, rooting and flashing CM, I haven't done much software wise. I have done some handiwork hardware wise, because when I got this phone from a friend, the pins for reading the SIM card were broken off. This was a couple months ago and I don't think I broke anything.
I hope that I have been clear enough explaining my problem, I sadly cannot give a logcat file.

Same issue for me.
I tried also with odin and it dosen't work.
I have Cyanogenmod 11 and clockworkmod recovery.

and same thing here, try to install CWM from flashify app... see if you can wipe and install roms with that... i know that CWM is outdated, but most of the times it still gets the job done...

This is so weird. 2 days ago the same thing happened to me, my phone is stuck in a boot loop, and I can't bring it back to stock, since I can't wipe or flash. This is so frustrating.
