Hi all,
Just upgrading to new Imate ROM. Now it seems that Universal has push email can anyone recommend an Exchange SP2 direct push email provider for consumer market? Many thanks for taking the time to read.
Tom C (UK)
The onlyone I know for the moment is 4smartphone.net - if you find any better (means cheaper), let me know!
Some report are saying 4smartphone.net takes 30 seconds to push an email to your device, rather than 5 seconds or less that others are getting via their own exchange servers.
Its worth asking these website exchange account providers what frequency they run the push 'heartbeat' at - you might end up with a big bill if they haven't set the Exchange/firewall to a reasonable rate.
Device SMS Address
I've just signed up for the 4smartphone trial, but Orange are completely unable to tell me what the Device SMS Address should be. They don't have a clue what this is about. I was guessing , but that doesn't work.
Does anyone know what it should be?

If you're using the aku2 rom then you don't need an sms address. The MSFP/Direct Push works via http not sms. Waaaaaay better!
Settings
I think it is that version. I'm using the new ROM version 1.30.68 with Radio version 1.09.00. I can see the push mail icon in Comm Manager, but it's greyed out, so I'm not sure where to go from here. The 4smartphone support pages are not exactly informative.
Can anyone point me to a website about setting this up? My searches are not getting me far.
Thanks.

Got it working
Just need to ignore the instructions on the 4smartphone web page about SMS Device.
From the moment of clicking send on my Desktop to the email arriving in my device inbox the time taken is about 25 secs, which includes gmail forwarding it to the 4smartphone address.
4smartPhone Help!!
Glad to hear that you got the SMS problem sorted which help me out too. I can now sync with contacts but what do I do for the email. Do I have to set an account up on WM5 which I have done but there is no push coming through I have to manually send and receive. Any help much welcome. Thanks
You need to set it up using active sync in WM5. You will need to add a server (secure.4smartphone.net) then your username, password and domain (4smartphone). It will then sync using the GPRS connection.
I've got Outlook desktop, Outlook Web Access (with smartphone) and Outlook on WM5 all synchronizing nicely. My only problem is that I have three pop email account on Outlook desktop, but 4smartphone only seems to work with one.
And just to add the obvious, you need to have email being forward to the address that you got @smartphone.com

4Smartphone.net are US based, where email to SMS is very common. It took the Americans about three years to wake up to the fact that everyone else in the world has to pay for SMS messages to be sent - hence the new push technology from Microsoft.
What they are referring to is a feature known as AUTD (always up to date) which is how Exchange used to do push. A specially created SMS text message would be sent to your phone which told your device that something had changed, and it would then do a sync.
I am told that it worked very well - it is just unfortunate that for everyone outside of the USA the feature would cost many thousands to run for each single user.

4smartPhone Help!!
Thanks for your quick reply. I have forwarding set up and all the correct settings for Active Syn in WM5, UserName, Password, Domain and Save password. Under the Options in ActiveSync there now appears and Exchange Server with the following selected Contacts, Calendar, E-Mail, Tasks.
I'm still not sure though what to do with the email all the above are syncing via 3g. In the Messages section do I have to create a new account and if so what are the correct setting for this?
Thanks again for the help and suggestions.
Tom C.
When it syncs with the Exchange server it automatically goes into the Outlook email inbox on your device. If you've previously been synchronizing with the desktop it wipes out those emails, which is why I'm trying the Pro version of 4smartphone and synchronising all three.
Have you checked if test emails you are sending are reaching the 4smartphone email address? You can do that by logging into the web version of Outlook via the link on their website.
Also the push email icon in Com Manager should now be working and it will say Microsoft DirectPush at the top.
That may not be much help, but I am also completely new to this.

Once again thanks for the help. Just about got it sorted as I read your reply. The missing link for me is that the you don't have to sent up a seperate email account I was looking for server addresses extra but all those go under ActiveSync. Getting mails fine now but not too sure yet about sending them. Are yours sending fine or is there a delay?
Thanks again, you are still once step ahead of me
I've got Push email working with mail2web.com and have a few questions:
I've gota couple of email addresses that won't forward to my mail2web email account and I don't really want to use mail2web's harvester as that only checks once every hour, so I was wondering whether it's possible to set Outlook on my PC to synce with my mail2web account so that my PC will download emails from my POP accounts, then upload them to my mail2web server, which then pushes the emails to my phone?
Or is there a simpler way to do it?
Also, when I reply to an email that's been pushed the reply address is always my mail2web email address, which is a pain as it confuses people and gets rejected by my email groups. How can I change the default address that my replies go from, or even just change them on each email as I reply?
I'm sure I'll have more questions soon.! Cheers.

Hi all new here and got question regarding my new TP2, Im trying to setup my TP2 to sync with exchange but can not get it to work. I already inputted the username, password, domain, and also the OWA access information. My work's OWA address goes like this www.myjobaddress.com/extension , But after trying to sync it and when I check again it would just show www.myjobaddress.com without the "extension."
Is there a step-by-step guide somewhere? Is there anything else I need to do?
Thanks all in advance
yeah your server name in activesync shouldnt have the "extension". An Exchange server is an exchange server - with a FQDN: owa is a website residing at an addresss - sometimes with path after server name, not always, depends on the admin and the complexity of the setup.
i know that my owa address is waay diff than my activesync, etc server name.
Your admin or 3rd party provider should be able to give you a little config util that will setup your device properly, usually downloadable from a formatted txt msg. Or if you have access to your personal exchange control panel you should be able to get it from there - at the very least the correct info.
Hope this helps a little...
From what I've seen the OWA setup follows the standard as such webmail.company.com
It's been the same format in all the jobs I've had that had OWA access.
The other thing you can do is use Google Chrome, enter your OWA address then once it connects, on the new page that opens you can see the URL. It'll start with the format above.
The other thing you'll need is the domain name. And at times, that domain isn't the same as the company name. So you need to ask your Exchange admin.
All of this of course assumes your company is on Exchange 5.5 or 2007. If not you're not going to be able to get push email.
Thanks for the replies guys....I was able to get it to work. What I did was explicitly input this address "http://www.comanyname.com/exchange"
then just re-entered my username, password and domain. I had username in this format earlier "domain\username", I just removed the "domain" and entered just the username and it started syncing.
Thanks again guys
Hi,
I'm having some problems with default Mail application of Android under HTC Desire for sending mails through my personal mail server.
I host my own mail server with SMTP Authentication but *only* with Android Mail application it seems to ignore username/password I provided under the account settings so no authenticated session is done on the mail server and this one reject the client because of this. SASL Authentication is properly working with other clients (Windows mobile pocket outlook, Thunderbird 2 or 3, Outlook ...etc)
Do you have such other similar experience/problem with SMTP Auth within Android 2.1 please ?
Thanks by advance,
laurent
Hi, i'm having the same problem using the corporate SMTP server (which works for everyone else). Might be a bug on the email app?

hi !
thks for your reply, now i know that i'm not alone
I was afraid of this ... it could be a bug
I searched on Google about this problem but found no interesting entry anywhere about it like if nobody saw it ?!
Do you know if there is a sort of BugZilla for android OS please ? Maybe we could find an entry there or at least enter a new one if necessary ...
laurent
Hi, the email application belongs to the Sense, so HTC should fix it. The stock Android email app works (tested on a Samsung phone with the same SMTP server) but is not available on Desire.

Ok, thks for this information, sorry I was thinking this one was the default mail application from Android
so we have nothing to do other than waiting and cross our fingers that HTC release a fix asap ...
if you want the default android one, i ffound it on a post here somewhere....cant find it now though, but you can download it from http://rhedgehog.com/apk/email.apk
If someone can upload it to rapidshare or something (no access here at work) it'd be cool.
Edit: Oh by the way, have no issues with my server. Auth turned on, standard SMTP, SSL off. no idea what software my host is running on the server though.....
hi,
thks for your reply !
do u mean smtp auth is working properly for you ? if so can you give me firmware version of your htc desire please ?
thks

SMTP Auth is working fine for me with SSL, I use Runbox premium mail service.
I am running software version 1.15.405.4
1.15.110.11
Hi again,
Thks all for your informations, I also have 1.15.405.4 and so did some new tests with SSL enabled/selected this time and SMTP Auth is now working !
If I go back and disable SSL, I have no logs on my Postfix server-side about SMTP Auth and client is purely rejected.
By the way, for my curiosity I tried with the Android default Email application rhedgehog provided (thks) and with this one SMTP Auth is working with SSL selected or not ...
So, as a workaround, I finally kept SSL on but did not find yet the last word of this problem !?
@alebolic : maybe you should try with SSL on ...

I have a Samsung Vibrant Galaxy S on t Mobile. I have no pop3/smtp issues on all platforms and devices including my Blackberry 8520, 9700, and Pearl. I have two POP3/SMTP accounts that I need email to send and reviece from constantly allday. Sinc eI bought my Android phone I have had nothing but issues on both the defaul internal client and with apps like K9 for example.
Whether I am rooted or not, fresh reboot or after it has been on or idle, smtp always fails a few days after adding account and POP3 works occasionally. I have tested full and as needed syncing, other SSL ports and etc other than the recomnmended and still pop3 is sporatic and SMTP fails frequesntly a few days after thet account are created in the phone. I had zero issues on my Blackberry, I just dont understand why these phones are giving so many people issues.
?? I am begining to wonder if everyones issue is a task killer killing an app that is needed and it is not opening when needed?
?? Is there a underliying push to make people use Gmail and apps instead of the phone?
It must be a base system issue because POP3/SMTP apps behave the same way. As everyone knows Gmail works fine always. My Yahoo! Mail app works perfect as well.
WA: I just use bookmarks I placed on my Home screen to access my mail via browser.
Not sure if it is relevant, I use a service called authsmtp for all my outgoings, and it is a little irritating when being set up on Android HTC Desire froyo. The first time it tries the access and says the host isn't responding, if you then say you have ssl it then produces a checkbox saying login required and you can enter a username/passw combo. After that it works.....
Seems like the requirement to let it know you have secure access isn't geared to the first attempt to set up.

Same problem here.
The HTC Desire Z mailclient does not support SMTP Auth with my mail server.
I checked on my mailserver to find the problem, but the phone does not try auth
at all.
Server says "220 ... ESMTP Sendmail.."
Phone sends "EHLO [..ip..]"
Server answers
"
250....
...
250-AUTH DIGEST-MD5 CRAM-MD5
...
"
Phone sends "QUIT"
The Phone shows "server does not support authentication".
BTW: this phone is the only client I tested with this bug. Working clients are: Thunderbird, iPhone, iPad, aso
It seems HTC mail does not support the provided Auth methods. If anyone of you has a working setup, could you please tell me which mailserver it is or tell me what auth method
would work ?
Have you tried authsmtp as I mentioned? They were aware of the original problem I had and they may well be able to fix the Z issue.

Has anyone successfully setup Gmail through the exchange connector using the Android mail app? I am looking for a way in which to provide push email but without getting threaded emails....
I have attempted to set this up on my handset however I keep getting told to try again later
Yep mine works fine. Username should be your full email address, and server address 'm.google.com', with encrypted SSL.
server address is m.google.com
SSL is on
working fine here.
hey cant seem to get the email service working on all ICS roms including the Virtuous RC3 one, it just says username or password invalid. How is this possible?
cheers
Some more information please!
Which email provider do you have?
Have you try to set up the email account not automatically?
Maybe the informations that your phone get are wrong and you must set up the account on your own!
I have RC3 and my mail works fine! Googlemail and an other provider
Hi, I'm trying to use the email client with microsoft outlook exchange, Gmail works fine. I input my email address and password and click exchange and it just says details are incorrect. I dont understand why, because this has always worked before.
Thanks
Mmmh okay it's seem to be that exchange makes troble!
Some people reported already the problem:

So that means you have to wait till a update is relased or you change the configuration on the exchange.
But i have no experience with exchange server =( I can't help you with this!
