[Q] Is it possible to get the "Chat Tab" into the contact for direct IM calling?
Hi All,
I'm using some apps (SipDriod, AntiSIP, Linphone) to make calls via SIP to a contact URI - essentially these URIs are the same as IM address and I store the URI in the IM field of the contact. On the various app dev forums they say that the SIP URI should be directly accessible from the contact info by use the "Chat" tab. However, I cannot see such a tab available to me on my HTC Desire.
I have had some info that this should be available using the standard Android contact manager, but the HTC Sense overly may be blocking this. Is there any way I can get the standard (or third party) contact manager specifically for this functionality without screwing up the HTC Sense People manager (as I quite like the normal search functionality)?
I can't root the phone and put a different ROM on for the moment as it is a brand new works phone from Orange, which means I can't go back to a stock image.
Cheers
Hi
I am using 2.3.4 through Gingerbread V3
Wondering if you can install a different dialer, maybe there is a thread somewhere with dialers.
Why?
Because this one does not search my contacts for the letters entered on the dialer, very annoying.
cheers

T9 dialer. I use GO contacts to circumvent this. And also has a vibrate on connect from Sense roms.
Thanks, going to have a look at that.
Other suggestions are still welcome.
EDIT:
Just noticed it does not support Danish, neither does GO contacts.
That is a problem if their name contains æ ø å.
Also I noticed that third party apps since 2.3 no longer have access to the phone state, so your missed calls counter is going to accumulate. Most irritating. I hope Go team solves the it in the upcoming versions.
That'll most likely be fixed, but missing language support probably won't come right around the corner.
Btw. i'll try post this question in themes and apps, seems more relevant and might get more answers, so moving this to themes & apps.

Just got myself a GN and I was a bit disappointed with the dialer.
With my old phone I could just spelling the name of a contact and the dialer would list contacts.
GN just puts in the numbers no direct search ??
Is it some option or something I am missing or do I need another dialer??
Love the feel of it just wish I did not have to go to contacts to find a number...
The stock dialer does not support T9 Smart dial. Either use another dialer, or use the google search bar to search for the contact you want to call.
Or spend a minute amount effort and tap the search icon in the bottom left of the dialer then start typing the name. It's not really much time wasted...

I also wish the T9 dialer was built into stock Android as it is with HTC Sense, Touchwiz and MIUI.
If you would like Google to change this, star the following threads in the Android issue tracker:

While it may not be much more effort, it is quite clear that this feature is available in other stock dialers, then why not in google's own?
I also store my contacts on the sim card and if anyone has noticed, then you cannot import all contacts into phone at once. You have to manually go through all contacts which again is a sore point.
I think that is a valid point to expect in the dialer, not whether searching seperately is an option or not!

Why not synchronise your contacts with google, so if you:
1. lose your phone.
2. Phone gets broken
3. Somebody steals it
it only takes 2 minutes before you have all your contacts again.
There are a lot of Contacts apps around on the market, and i bet even 1 of them supports transferring your sim contacts to the phone.
Earlier i used GO Contacts, but they don't support ICS yet. So for now im using DW Contacts (looks ok, only used it for an hour though).

Yes and accepted, but that behaviour has been standard all along. Rather than make me select one contact at a time from my hundred contacts, that one simple click would have been better. Anyways I prefer not to upload contacts into the cloud because
1. I may not have the consent of some of the ppl that I hold details for, e.g. bosses and they may not prefer it and
2. I personally do not know who or how this data is used/accessed in which case I would rather not. And personally judging by Google's appetite for gathering our personal data, I would rather opt out. Its just me....
Sorry OP to have hijacked your thread..
Correction - User error Apologies, I have just read the manual and it does allow for an 'import all' option to copy all contacts from SIM to phone.
To bad wish they would put that in its a very nice feature I seen no reason to be left out.
Anyone know a good dialer to use instead ?? Would love one with the same look if possible ???
Perhaps it is some sort of lawsuit infringement that prohibits them to build it into the dialer. I don't think Apple has this either, right? Maybe Microsoft has the patent on it.
3rd party dialers have this feature. In fact, I just install the MIUI dialer because it is just awesome. It is in the market and not listed under "MIUI Dialer" but "e9" or something. It works great.

Do you have the problem with it not clearing unanswered calls ???

I know from gingerbread that 3rd party apps can't clear unanswered calls. Some if the apps solves that by using the stock dialer list when selecting the notification.
Anyway its limitations in the OS and not the apps.

I have t-mo m8 converted to unlocked and I cannot get multiuser to work it just shows up in settings but when I choose add user it gives me setup has stopped errors.
Please if anyone knows a way let me know the fix. Thanks
Update= I removed HTC setup wizard and then tried to add user. It worked just had to manually add gmail account. Only bad part is when playing games or in some apps won't allow to pull up navigation keys.
I'm pretty sure I'll find a way. Mods can delete this thread. As all the views and no replies seems no-ones interested. Thanks
Hi guys,
I'm having trouble with the OOS Dialer, as a huge number of contacts show up twice or thrice despite being spelled exactly the same. Therefore I'm looking for a way to
a) solve that problem (already tried merge contacts, cleared app data etc.)
b) bypass it by using an alternative Dialer.
Requirements would be absolute stock-ish look & feel and the problem either doesn't exist or the good old custom rom way options (where you have much more option within the dialer app: Merge contacts, only show contacts with phone numbers, etc...).
Any hints?
Try Google Phone.
