ROM Factory
What is ROM Factory?
Its a tool that will allow the user to create a picture perfect .img from your boot and system partition. It will then create an update.zip from it.
What is a "Fruit Cake"?
A fruit cake is the finish product, a self contain rom, already ready for installation, already inside an update.zip.
So really what does it do?
It allows a bootloader unlocked user to create a full copy of their boot and system partition. All of it, including mods and changes done to either one of those partitions.
Can this be use for easier rom development?
Yes! Beyond just its normal capabilities! After installing the resources you can modify the script and add things to it in *sdcard* /fcm/workdir! Once you are done adding and changing things in there, press "Create ROM".
Supported Devices:
olympus (atrix), sunfire (photon), triumph, WX435, fb0 (triumph), p999 (lg g2x), p990 (lg o2x), p970 (lg optimus black), ace (htc desired hd), pyramid (htc sensation), galaxys2, GT-I9100, GT-I9100M, GT-I9100T, SGH-I777, SGH-I727, hercules, crespo (nexus s), crespo4g (nexus s 4g), toro (cdma galaxy nexus), maguro (gsm galaxy nexus)
Experimental Support:
umts_jordan(defy), wingray, stingray (xoom)
Your phone must be rooted!
Step One: Press the Install Resources button on screen.
Patience this step could take up to 5 minutes.
Step Two: Press the Create Fruit Cake button on the screen.
Patience this step could take up to 5 minutes.

So it will create an update.zip which is CWM flashable? How about generating a .tar.md5 for Odin?
Anyways, great work! Looking forward to this!

Afaik a nandroid backup is everything including data folder. This one i think is a little less than that. As op said it copies the rom so devs can pass them to their beta testers etc. A nandoid backup is including ur personal settings like bookmarks or last viewed webpages and contacts etc. And a nandroid backup is recovery dependant. Afaik a nandroid from a cwm v4 base wont be suitable for a phone with a cwm v5 phone.

1.6 - The update that took a month. Will be release today. This will be amazing. I'm just waiting on testers.
Advance Mode
Apps Mode
Back Up Mode
New look
Open Source components
New site, new forums, new devices.
The update will be made available late tonight or early tomorrow. Depends on how tire I am after i get off work.
We are alive and kicking. Since release, Fruit Cake Maker has been downloaded 1,956 times. We are 556 active developers. A total of 12 bugs have been crushed. We currently work on 20+ devices and devices variants.
Nightlys and experimental.
Starting Feb 1st or 2nd. My build bot will begin auto compiling nightlys for those who want to experiment with the latest changes. Nightlys will be compile each night and made available no later than midnight.
An experimental build will begin to be compile mid Feb. the build will be compile every friday at 6pm. The experimental build will feture a different preference screen, and will require the user to specify all the variables. ie: boot location, system location, storage, mode. so on. This build aims at enthusiast who wish to use the tool on a non supported device.
FCM now has requirements. Busybox must be installed to use the back up mode.
Thank guys for your support.
I think it's great personally, used it on DHD also with ease.
I'm surprised this project doesn't receive more attention.
It certainly deserves it.
Many thanks
Wow. If I get it well, it create a flashable zip image of your current installation, with apps etc?
Wow. That will be a lot easier to share beta ROMs in the future.
Many many thanks.

I'm currently waiting on Google.
I submitted the new version into the market, but somehow i ended up with an older version being available for download. hopefully this issue will be solved soon. I'm sorry for the inconvenience.
1.6 finally!
Some of the testers are reporting errors with the new modes, but changing storage location seem to be working quit good. I will be writing a tutorial on how to properly use all the new modes. Regardless, this new version requires Busybox for app mode, and back up mode. It must be installed on /system/xbin << same location used by cm7 and cm9. I will be releasing a new version tomorrow or Thursday, to fix some of the new mode woes.
Again, sorry for the inconvenience.
Very good work!
Awesome! keep the good work, I will try it tonight from home.
Sounds Great
Hello,
The ROM Factory sounds like a great Idea, im not a developer but i can see why its great for devs,
Question is, will it be useful for just a user like I am?
if i am to use it to back up, how does it differ from Titanium and CWM NAND backup?
Thanks

So uhm are there any real differences? Or am I just plain stupid and miss them. 5.2 is good enough for everyday use as well....
Note: this is not meant to be rude or anything. It's allways good to see more devs
Man, it's nice to see new faces, but you're not bringing anything new to the table, just a "rehash" of someone's ROM.
Like someone once wrote, proficiency with winzip doesn't make you a dev, and it's sad to see ppl just playing around with winzip, adding a few apks, changing a few lines and posting "new stuff".
I wanted to look the other way, just like I did with the other new "chefs", but hey, guy, you even had the very good idea to add a donate link to your sig., not even reaching 10 posts!
Unless you bring something new, I don't think it's a good idea to post, since it's just spam.
That might come in handy for you: "innovation, not imitation"
I didn't say it is brand new stuff. As I mentioned in the first post, it's based on Vanillain ROM. If you try my version and the original version you'll definately see a difference in both speed and stability.
Really, I don't think this is as useless as you might consider it. Maybe I'm not the only 'vanilla android' fan around here looking for a stable release.
What's with the attitude people... He posted a ROM he thinks is good and he wants to share his work, even if it's not *NEW*...
Download or don't download but give him a break... let people try and feedback, maybe you'll find he didn't just "zip" the ROM...
RaduG thanks for your work and share. I'm into Sense UI so I won't be trying this but again, thanks for sharing!
Ok so here it goes.
Just did a restart after setup and it is fast but switching between screens i a bit slow (will give it some more time). The launcher has only 3 screens "helix" I think you could use a different one.
Oh and the 3G watchdog could be an option. It is useful but i bet not all people would like it.
At the and of the day i think this is a great ROM. Stable and ready to be used as an everyday ROM
Thanks for your feedback.
I've tested different launchers available and the HelixLauncher included in this ROM is the most stable in my oppinion. I will wait for more feedback and if you users like it I will take the apps you don't like out.

It's not a matter of software being new, but seriously, just how many rehashes of base roms shared by other devs were posted?
How many "chefs" DID compile their own custom overlay of aosp?
In fact, nprussel was using mine for quite some time, but didn't react since he really has contributed a lot in these forums; in fact, I'd congratulate him.
Apart from some additional apks, I don't see anything new in here (same old bugs, "features" of other roms based on the leaks)
The one thing that really ticked me off, is the "audacious" donate link for what is, let's face it, a rip atm.
I've taken it off since you first posted. You're somehow right, but i really don't think this is useless. I'm 100% sure this is the most stable Android 2.1 you can download on the forum ATM. Since it is an improvement and i've given credits to the source, i don't think there is a real issue.
Still waiting for feedback.
Could not get it to work, did a full wipe, then flashed.
Then it boots and every single thing that starts crashes: 'sorry ... setup stopped unexpectedly'
I have the latest radio.
Managed to mount my sdcard between all the error screens luckily, so I'll put another ROM onto my phone in 5 minutes.
Strange, a few users tested and everything worked perfect. Please try a full wipe after install and post results. Thanks.
Going to check it.
This is my third rom, so I should now more or less how to install it, but what do you mean with wipe after install? My actions, in order:
put zip on sd card
boot in recovery
wipe whatever I can wipe (system and cache, I do not have an ext partition so no point wiping that)
flash
boot
so which step then?

Yep, i've ran aHero, great build too! But this is more stable and works better with Live Wallpapers.
Welcome to VillainROM
This bit’s the introduction. If you’re not interested in who we are, or how we got here, or are of the TL;DR mentality, then skip this entire section.
I’ve been raging recently. That’s right... raging. I’ve moved house, had NO internet connection (and still have no connection, until the 29th November), and T-Mobile then decided to block my access after 4pm for exceeding my fair usage allowance on my “unlimited” internet package. So yeah, the fact that we’ve even found time to work on and release these ROMs shows how dedicated we are to bringing VillainROM to the masses.
As many of you have noticed, I’m well and truly back in to the world of custom roms, after a few months break over the summer. Believe me, it was well and truly needed. It’s great to be back though.
If you’ve come from a HTC Hero/Desire or Magic, the chances are, you’ve heard of VillainROM. For that reason, I won’t go into who we are in too much detail. Sufficed to say, we’re a hardworking team of collaborative developers, working towards a common goal; to improve on manufacturer’s versions of the Android OS’ and to provide alternative, AOSP versions. We will no longer be providing 'experimental beta' releases, but instead, only releasing ROMs we deem to be 'final'.
So, enough of the "sales" pitch... let’s talk about the ROM!
Before I do, though, I’d just like to take this opportunity to offer a huge message of gratitude to the team at #g2root. Scotty2 and the team worked their arses off for weeks on this, and together they achieved what HTC attempted to make impossible. We all owe them a huge debt of thanks.
Well, we’re a bit later than we’d hoped on the G2 scene, so we thought we’d say hi with a bang. Well, three bangs actually. That’s three ROMs of course; we hope you like them.
The first of the three ROMs is Villision. The other two ROMs which are finished, but undergoing internal testing are coming over the next couple of days.
VILLISION 1.0.0

If you’re looking for speed, and as close to G2 stock/AOSP (without being an AOSP of course) as possible, then this is the ROM for you. Villision is our stripped down version of the G2 Stock Rom, De-odexed and with all T-Mobile branded crap removed.... with HomerSP's and my very own tweaks. We're personally using this as my daily driver, until we get around to ROM number 4, which will be a compiled AOSP build based loosely on CM6.1.
I would like to thank HomerSP of VillainROM for his assistance on this ROM, which is the first ROM we've every worked together on. He's been a legend to work with.
Villision 1.0.0 Features
- Based on OTA G2 Stock ROM
- Custom Power Menu (Reboot & Reboot to Recovery)
- Coolbho's 1.497Ghz OC kernel (thanks CM team) - We will be compiling our own range of kernels next week, so expect an update on this.
- Languages added (including GB English - that's right, colour > color)
- De-odexed
- PNG Optimized
- Zip-Aligned
- Dalvik heap tweaks
- Custom wallpaper & bootanimation (Designed by Mikebeechm and animated by HomerSP)
- Removed T-Mobile applications (bloatware)
- Removed all market downloadable apps such as Earth, etc - YOU PICK the apps you want.
NOTES:
Busybox NOT included: If you need it, download it via Titanium Backup’s ‘Problems’ link. It will download and install immediately.
INSTALL SETCPU TO SET OC!
INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Boot into clockwork recovery
2. Nandroid backup if you're nervous
3. FULL DATA WIPE
4. Flash the ROM
5. Reboot!

Due to the way xda is, and the split between g2 and z sections I reccomend that if you have any important comments or find any bugs about this rom please post so on the correct section of the VillainRom forums which can be found at www.villainrom.co.uk
Also it might pay to read the g2 post for this very same rom.

For xda rule clarification, we will continue to provide support on xda, as per usual. I am just trying to make things easier for all
As i have heard the Z and G2 are diffrent on some ways and few have get problem doing stuff that was z/g2 flagged better ask is this one for pure G2 or will it even work on Z? Maybe some one have try it on a Desire Z and can tell?
I have it running on my DZ absolutely fine. Shame no HTC keyboard. Bring on the Sense ROM lads!

We have never forced OC on anyone in the past so I doubt it would have changed with this rom (I have not flashed it myself yet)
mine was overclocked to 1.42 by default, but setCpu let me change it to stock and loads inbetween. Seems like a really stable overclock too. Maybe it depends on the type of desire you have? I have a euro one.

All right folks, everything is now part of CMSGS project. See http://cmsgs.com and http://github.com/cmsgs
Use build instructions from http://cmsgs.com/mediawiki/index.php?title=Building_from_Source
Before building apply local patches from device/samsung/galaxytab/patches
After building use tools from device/samsung/galaxytab/tools to build kernel and build factoryfs.ext4 from system.img, read the readme files
Thanks to Deodexed, who provided his hosting, we now have public beta
Only for people with GSM tabs who know how to use adb and heimdall
If you dont know how to backup and restore your tab don't try it!
Grab: http://files.deodexed.com/ModADroid-Galaxy-Tablet/Technomancer/cm6beta.zip
Read the readme file and have fun ;-)
The Tab should be partitioned with P1_add_hidden like for JJ4 or later ROMs.
If anyone wants to use Odin, rename factoryfs.ext4 to factoryfs.rfs and tar all rfs files and zImage and Odin should be able to flash it too.
Status:
What works
Phone calls, data
Wifi
Bluetooth Keyboard
GPS
Buttons backlight - linked to LCD backlight
Sensors:
- BMA020/BMA150 Accelerometer
- AK8973B
What doesn't
Camera
Sensors:
- BH1721FVC light sensor
- L3G4200D gyro
- Some are probably screwed up because of hwrotation = 90
Bluetooth Audio
Issues and workarounds
* Stuck on CM boot ani after flash
Probably / data is not mounted.
run "adb shell mount"
it will show list of mounted partitions, if /data is not mounted to /dev/block/mmcblk0p2 as rfs, format the /data partiton.
To do that "adb reboot recovery". "adb shell" when in recovery, "parted /dev/block/mmcblk0", initialize/format partition 2 to fat32 using "mkfs 2 fat32"
* BT doesnt start
Try again
Try rebooting
If that doesnt help try "adb shell stop hciattach" Sometimes hciattach service gets stuck when starting. I have added code to stop it automatically.
Latest fixes:

This is quite amazing. Great job. Do you really think you need to build it all from source? Can't you just modify the current build instead of starting from scratch? Wouldn't it be faster. Please people don't bug the dev about doing testing or helping if you have NO dev experience. I'm sure he will release it if it's stable enough. This thread is gonna get raped in sure of it

This is awesome. I have the sprint tab and I always feel like my n1 running cm performs so much better than the tab even though the tab has more powerful hardware. Can't wait for this and certainly willing to help whether that be through testing or donations.

I only have ATT Tab so I can only do GSM development. But if any devs with Sprint or Verizon Tabs wanna join we can set up some git repositories ans cooperate.
So galaxy tab friendly our no?

Wow, this is awesome
Super Awsome buddy! All the best.
This is awesome work, but note it is really really unstable at the moment.
Last night when I was helping test it really did hose things, had to repartition and reformat the entire internal MMC to get any default firmwares to even boot again
But this is a good sign for the future
i cant wait for this
bumpity bumpy bump
CM 6 compiled from sources now! Looking for testers , see first post
Now to pull from the CM7 source for some Gingerbread goodness
I can test if you want, running JME at the moment on a GSM Tab.

Gingerbread goodness most likely requires newer kernel (2.6.35) so its not that easy ;-(

To be honest, this is not tablet mode at all, it has nothing to do with silly build.prop hacks. This is the first and only Android rom to feature true Hybrid mode. This rom lets you scale and project every app, every widget, even system components individually. Remember, android is modular, everything is an app: Lockscreen, navigationbar, dialogs, popups, keyboards, widgets, and your regular apps of course. Apps have the capability to switch into various designs or layouts according to the device they run on. This can result in a complete new experience as many apps will transform to the better. Now for every element that you like choose a mode (PhoneUI, Phablet/Nexus-7UI, TabletUI) and/or a size. You are 100% independent of the system DPI which runs nicely in whatever value it has been assigned to. You do not need to boot your phone into a certain DPI. Neither will most of the changes you apply require a reboot. You will not suffer from the myriads of troubles which normally haunt you under build.prop tablet mode. Your market, phone, etc. will all work, apps won't shrink on you unless you shrink them yourself.
This project will entirely transform your device, but retain the aesthetics and the feel of your phone.
CWM Install ROM from here (MD5: 9E01D449FC3D6BB9442FAD05A7CCB668)
CWM Install Gapps from here
CWM If you're coming from any other rom, Wipe Cache / Factory Reset (May work without fullwipe from older PA versions or AOSP JB)
CWM Wipe Cache Partition
CWM Advanced->Wipe Dalvik Cache
Reboot
If you have trouble booting right after you flash, try flashing the kernel via fastboot:
extract boot.img from the zip
boot in to bootloader (turn off phone, hold the vol up button, and plug in usb cable)
fastboot -i 0x0fce flash boot boot.img
reboot
This rom is based on FreeXperia's CM10 and therefore anything that doesn't work there, will not work here.
Known issues:
Camera does not work
If you have an issue and you want to call our attention, here's what you do:
Try everything you can, find solutions for yourself. Wipe caches, revert all your settings you have made, go back to your stock Kernel, factory reset if you have to or reflash the rom. Assume that the issue is on your side and try your best to isolate it.
Search this thread and Cyanogenmods aswell (its our base) for possible reoccurences of your issue and hopefully solutions that may have come up.
If you think the issue is important enough that we should cease our work and look into it, post your issue, BUT ...
... stay friendly, do not demand anything, do not threaten
... explain your issue as precise as you can, name the exact apps and conditions that cause trouble, help us to replicate the issue right away. If we can't there's no way we can fix it and your post will simply clutter the thread
... collect evidence, keep in mind this is a developer thread so even if you are not one, do us the favor and research how to record logcat. logcat is the single most important help you can give us to resolve your issue.

The memory management was changed from ICS to JB, and with the camera libs being proprietary (Sony won't release source), a lot of work remains to make the camera work. However, on a positive note, we may be able to use libs from a different Xperia device as soon as Sony ships JB for one of them.
FWIW, camera aside, with the latest changes from FXP137 this rom runs very smooth and seems quite stable :silly:
Hope Sony releases them cause that is the only thing that is making me not flashing them
Is there any interest in a CM9 based version of Paranoid with a working camera? Or should I just put the project on hold until Sony releases JB camera drivers in the next couple months?

A couple months seem so far yet it seem so close. Hopefully, sony would release them in a few weeks. But seeing how the latest line of flagships are still ICS, it would be a miracle for them to release drivers anytime soon.

Sorry for bumping this thread, but is it possible for you to create an updated version of Paranoid with the newest build of CM10? It seems that the newest one finally has working camera.

Hey Fellow P930 owners,
Here are the files needed to get Ubuntu Touch to boot on our phones. The is a pre-alpha build and cannot be used for a daily ROM. I nor any of the involved sources take responsibility for problems, bricked devices or your cat's head exploding. If you do not know what to do with the following files do not go any further.

Here are the files:
Recovery: http://goo.im/devs/nexwave/p930/ubuntu-touch/cm-10.1-ubuntu-touch-20130225-UNOFFICIAL-p930.zip
CM part: http://goo.im/devs/nexwave/p930/ubuntu-touch/cwm-ubuntu-touch-20130225-UNOFFICIAL-p930.img
Ubuntu Touch part: http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-to...urrent/quantal-preinstalled-phablet-armhf.zip (Updated daily)
Install Instructions:
1. Have or get root on your phone.
2. Have or install a custom recovery. (TWRP, CWM and Ubuntu CWM all work)
3. Reboot to recovery.
4. Make a backup of your current ROM. (you will want to go back as not much works in the Ubuntu Touch preview at the moment)
5. Do all wipes. (cache, dalvik cache, data and system)
6. Flash CM part.
7. Flash Ubuntu Touch part.
8. Reboot and Enjoy! (It will take a minute or two before the ubuntu screen loads, be patient)
Working:
- WiFi
- Touch
- Display
- Power Button
Not working:
- Mobile Data
- Calling
- Bluetooth
- SDCard access
- Sound
- All hardware and capacitive buttons (except power button)

First off, great job man :good:
But i was wondering how did you get it to boot, in my case, i was able to compile the ROM without errors, but when flashing the .zip, i would get past the two LG Logos and it would just keep bootlooping afterwards. I see you posted 3 files in your initial post, is there a special way to flash it, i guess i ll wait for the future instructions ... ... but i would still like to know if i was even close of having a working compiled ROM, still new to this kind of stuff hehe
Thanks
Nice! Ya beat me to it. Good on ya!
Anyway, I read in the other thread that quite a few things don't really work right now. Things like calls. Do you have a list of anything not working?
I wondered the same initially then I realized the only thing you missed was flashing the zip image from (I purposely split the http so you could see what file you are fetching, there are a lot of builds there ) http://
cdimage.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-touch-preview/daily-preinstalled/current/quantal-preinstalled-phablet-armhf.zip
After flashing both zips it booted up for me... I wonder how well the rom would work with other kernel configurations.. You dont need the recovery.img
But for some reason my own build failed with the following in the logcat
Code:
E/linker ( 841): ics/linker.c:1072| ERROR: Library '/system/lib/libubuntu_application_api.so' not found
E/linker ( 878): ics/linker.c:1072| ERROR: Library '/system/lib/libubuntu_application_api.so' not found
E/linker ( 929): ics/linker.c:1072| ERROR: Library '/system/lib/libubuntu_application_api.so' not found
E/linker ( 937): ics/linker.c:1072| ERROR: Library '/system/lib/libubuntu_application_api.so' not found
E/linker ( 973): ics/linker.c:1072| ERROR: Library '/system/lib/libubuntu_application_api.so' not found
Nz
P.s.
After install there are a few features missing like
Unable to use the Phone,
browser,
texting..
In all it is pretty much just a small taste of what it could be - which does look to have potential - but in general a waste of time using it.

I got mine to build last night and installed it.
Nothing happens... It boots up and says that there are "14 tweets received"... I even downloaded the links in the last post and installed them with the same result.
Is that all it does right now? If so, I'm kind of angry that I just wasted my time doing this.

Well you can do swipes to open menus and such. Also web browsing works on WiFi but ya... that's about it. Really not usable other than to dev on. Which is what it's intended for.

Hey Guys,
Just wanted to let you know that I'm going to be attending a port clinic with the ubuntu touch team tomorrow on IRC in order to learn how to port the new flipped image. I wouldn't want us to miss out on the awesomeness that is going to be Ubuntu Touch .
Feel free to join us/me, details quoted below.
We noticed that some of the port images linked from [3] haven't been
updated in a while. If you should need help to update to the newest
version of Ubuntu Touch, we are running a Ubuntu Touch Porting Clinic on
Thursday, 1st August in #ubuntu-touch on irc.freenode.net ([4] has a web
frontend, if you don't have an IRC client). Simply ask your question on
IRC and we'll have some folks around to help you out.
