FAQ
What is apps2ext?
Code:
Apps2ext (previously called apps2SD) moved all user installed apps to a secondary ext partition on your sdcard.
This method had the advantage of being straight forward and simple, However, it had the drawback of being difficult to set up.
This method is no longer officially supported by CyanogenMod.
Please see the forum for device specific work-arounds if you really want apps2EXT on CyanogenMod.
Why did I include a apps2ext script to the rom?
Code:
Even though we have 1GB space of internal memory and a lot of the G2 users believe that is enough.
The more apps that are installed, the slower our phones can get after time.
Apps2ext takes all of that stress from our internal storage and diverts it to our sd-ext partition if there's any.
This results in our phones never have to worry about slowing down just because of the number of apps that we have installed.
Requirements
- T-mobile G2 or HTC Desire Z
- S-OFF
- SDCard
Other requirements:
*Only need this is you plan to use sd-ext and swap*
- Sd-ext partition at least 1024MB
- Swap partition at least 256MB
I DO NOT RECOMMEND USING ANY KIND OF SUPERWIPE
The rom has it's own built in wipe
Installing Process
- Backup your previous rom
- Repartition your sdcard ONLY if you want sd-ext and/or swap enabled
- Download the rom
- Wipe everything (data, cache, dalvik-cache, battery stats) DO THIS ONLY IF COMING FROM ANOTHER ROM
- Flash the rom
- Once flashing process is complete it will auto reboot!
Working
- Everything should be
Not Working
- Nothing, but tell me if anything is broken
Issues
- Calender (Still has some chinese, seems to be a miui.us build issue)
REGARDING ISSUES
Post the issues on http://pastebin.com/
- Please give me a logcat if you have an error, I can not help you if there's no logcat of the issue

YAY!!!! I cant wait to try it out! I love your other roms and cant believe that you are making this while I am on a miui kick. Thanks so much, downloading right now!

It's a sad day when one of the big MIUI designers for G2 has to preemptively apologize for asking legitimate questions, clarifying that they're legitimate questions and not trolling.
For my own part I'd like to know if you've removed any .apk files or if all the changes are under the hood. Have you patched in hardware keymaps so the dot com button functions properly?

I read your changelog, just curious about a few things.
What benefit does your a2sd offer over the AOSP native (2.2+) a2sd? Why are we using swap on a ROM that doesn't suffer from memory exhaustion? (don't intend on getting into the semantics of swap, clearly it has its uses/benefits, just not seeing them here)
Not trolling, just want your 2c.

Read this for a better explaination. Apps2ext is basicly what it is which is no longer supported by cm because of how difficult it is to make it work. It is working on this rom.
Edit: For swap you don't need to use swap if don't want to. The swap partition is not required nor is the ext partition. This rom includes both options along with blahbl4hblah's own personal mods in it. Also swap will not work unless you find and flash a kernel that supports it. This rom series is going to be awsome!

If your talking about Darktremor's a2sd scripts, the reason for why is because this is a lot faster and has more security checks. The 2-3 reboots of splash screen might cause issues to the phone since it's from the splash screen.
As for why swap, the reason for this is because though our phones have enough ram, more ram never hurts it just makes things better. Another reason for why it's better to use swap is because it puts less strain towards the ram resulting in better battery.

It's not complete haha, far from it to be honest.
It has everything you'll get from the normal build but much faster in my opinion.
Please let me know if you run into any issues.

Since this is an alpha build, the only .apk file that I removed was Gmail which I will put back in a stable build which shouldn't be too far along as long as people are able to report back to me on this thread.
Every .apk has been full optimized to where I like, though other users may see different results it may be better.

Okay I need to reupload this, If any of you flashed this and then rebooted and it just keeps rebooting
I forgot to add more things
Sorry again

Alright everyone, the fixed build is now up
I forgot to add some important system/app .apks

This is the first build but if you have some suggestions and or links to other mods or hack then it would be appriciated. I also had have the .com issue on my evo shift as well so I would say no that it does not include that.

Thanks so much! Its great to get to hear from one of the developers! I have been trying out the rom for a little bit and it runs great...the only problem that I have run into is when I plug my phone in to the computer, my phone goes into a boot loop. Which is unfortunately is a deal breaker for me. I do a lot of eBay and other things that require moving files between my computer and my phone. I cant wait to try the updates when they come out! Thanks for putting out a new rom! I like having many different miui roms. Its great having you as a replacement for bulletproof!
thanks again!

Thank you both for responding.
My thing is, you're making a lot of vague claims without providing any real data to back it up.
I don't understand the correlation between lots of apps on mmcblk0p26 = slow phone and lots of apps on sd-ext = fast phone. I've never heard or read anything to suggest that an SD card provides better performance than the internal SanDisk SDIN5C2-4G NAND, as a matter of fact, you can see for yourself. Here's the specs on our NAND:
Sustained Read 15 MB/s
Sustained Write 9 MB/s
source: http://omapworld.com/iNAND_e_MMC_4_41_IF_data_sheet_v1_0[1].pdf
Now download "SD Tools" from market and test your SD card's read/write speeds. If you're using a class2 (which is what shipped with the phone), you'll likely get results in the ballpark of ~5MB/s write ~7MB/s read. To me (and anyone that can count all their fingers and toes) that equates to a loss in performance.
Regarding swap...
Wat? How does using swap instead of internal RAM result in better battery life?
Source: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Swap_and_Compcache
Their explanation/understanding of swap pretty much matches my understanding verbatim.
Not trying to **** on your work and shoot holes in your ROM, just trying to provide some thoughtful feedback to some of the claims made. Please don't take offense.

In my experience as well as sparksco we have fantastic battery life as well as the phone stays cool even at 2ghz for a good amount of time. The SD card read or write speeds has nothing to do with sdext I believe. Those are only pertaining to transferring or reading pictures or videos and etc from your sdcard. Sdext is different. I don't know if you've ever used sdext so I can't say or judge you.
The best thing I can say is try it for yourself

The reason for the reboot was if you downloaded the first rom that I uploaded it was missing a majority of system/app .apks that are important so that may be why.
Give me a logcat of when it happens and we will be sure to fix it

I am sorry. I dont know how to send you a logcat of what happens. I did install the second upload though and I am sure of that.

This rom is still an alpha build but it should be very stable and fast.
If there's any issues of any kind just give me a logcat of that pertaining issue
Adb logcat > logcat.txt on your command prompt
I'm calling it a night so further questions shall be answered tomorrow

Oh okay. Well ill be sure to look into that tomorrow or when I have time.
For logcat just do
Adb logcat > logcat.txt on your computer
You must have sdk installed for this to work
Hope that helps

This ROM is a mish-mash of Vanilla Gingerbread & CM7, and is compiled from the latest CyanogenMod 7 sources. It will be regularly maintained with the latest commits from the CM guys, and our own VillainROM tweaks and changes. This ROM is starting to take shape, and differing from the stock CM7 build.
Anyway, before we begin - I'd like to thank the entire CyanogenMod team for the epic and consistently BRILLIANT work, for without it, this, and many other ROMs would not be possible. Well done guys - You deserve all the credit. I'd also like to thank Ninpo for his CM6.1 work, and the rest of the VillainROM developers & staff (Pulser, HomerSP, Kendon, Shen, Lenny, Acolwill, dmzda, Revoked, McDuck, etc)
INSTALL INSTRUCTIONS:
To flash this ROM, you will NEED to have ClockworkMod 3.0 installed, which manages EXT4 partitions. If at any stage you need to revert back to a Froyo ROM, you will need to reflash /boot into CWM 2.X via Fastboot.
1. Download ClockworkMod 3.0 from here
2. Boot the phone into Fastboot mode by holding Volume Down and pressing power
3. From terminal/command prompt, type:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
OR... alternatively, just fastboot boot into CWM 2.X to revert to a Froyo backup.
4. Boot into recovery (adb reboot recovery ... or Hold camera and press power)
5. Perform a FULL DATA/CACHE WIPE (only if coming from Froyo)
6. Install Zip from SD Card, and select GingerVillain1.4-signed.zip
1.4 Known Bugs:
1. Enabling screen on/off animations and OC/UV at the same time causes lag when trying to turn the screen on. The animations work fine without overclock... so it's oone or the other right now I'm afraid.
Download links are HERE!
If you're a fan of the ROM.. thank us with a 5 star rating!
thanks will flash soon. in the meantime posting a mirror at my blog.
So you bit off Cyanogen, called it your own, and are (albeit politely) requesting donations?
I hope I'm not right.

You know Cyanogen already talked about this before and apparently you didn't read it or get the message that this is what being on an Open OS system is about. Please read around or at least think before you snap at people for no reason.

Wow, just stop, lol. If people feel like donating for the things OUTSIDE of the CM stuff in here, then that's great. This isn't just cm7 compiled from source, labeled GingerVillain, and saying "Donate plzzzz"
Honestly, I've been using the other cm7 builds, but WOW. This build is SUPER smooth, at only 806mhz!! It's definitely going to be a keeper if it maintains this. Don't know about battery, obviously, but for anyone who has been using the other ones .. the modifications by Villain definitely make this thing fly. No DSP though, or StatusBar widgets, before people ask.
I hate you NP.....

BTW, I'm not knocking any of the other cm7 builds. They are definitely awesome, and I love that the Android community does what it does.

wi-fi problems?
Just flashed it. Looks great! However, when I turn on wifi to setup my Google account, restore apps, etc., it stays on for a few seconds (won't show any of the open networks in my building) then just turns off.
Also Twitter sync doesn't work (try to sync Twitter with existing contacts but it automatically switches to option back to 'Don't Sync')
Anyone else having this problem or know a solution?

I can't tell ya what ROM to run, obviously, but to me, this is leaps and bounds beyond the ones that are just direct/simply cm7 builds, as those have no real enhancements. This build, runs amazing actually. Screen shots, it's really just stock vanilla. The only thing different, is the background. Just head to the other Villain ROM (senseless) threads, and you'll see what the bg/boot animation look like.
Also comes pre-packed with GB keyboard, along with GB launcher. Smokin' fast.

I swear someone should put google market apk up so we can install that as soon as we flash a rom.

+ KSM Memory Management :
Due to heavy memory load with OpenGL support, it is recommended to activate KSM to reduce the memory usage and avoid problems like random reboots. This is done by going to "Settings"->"Performance"->"Memory Management" and check "Kernel samepage merging"
You can also activate zRam if you still encounter low RAM issues
+ For all people (like me) missing some AOKP options in this ROM give [URL="http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1531222"]Reloaded ICS 1.9b3-041012[/URL] a try ! it's great
[COLOR="Blue"]+ + If you would like to check out the 'TabletUI' mod (check my signature for more info) I have made one for this ROM..Just dont forget to disable the navigation bar before using it : [URL="https://hotfile.com/dl/154284773/c4aa8e4/TabletUI_MOD_CM9_HD2_HWA.zip.html"]TabletUI_MOD_CM9_HD2_HWA.zip[/URL] - [URL="http://depositfiles.com/files/0qry1rdlo"]mirror[/URL][/COLOR]
[COLOR="Red"] !! Keep in mind that [B]you can't use both of the above mods together !! Use one of them [/B][/COLOR]
[B]Bugs[/B]
- When you need to reboot your phone for the first time using this rom please use the poweroff / on function
You can get stuck into a bootloop when using the reboot option and will need to pull battery..
- Black bar while using the camera (try lg camera of the market as alternative)
- Barcode scanner not working (try NeoReader of the market as alternative)

I will try to fix some more stuff, but I won't be maintaining this rom for very long..
Be aware that there are other projects that I want to spend my time on and besides that tytung (and dorimanx) will probably shortly follow with a better build from source !!
This ROM is just to give you guys some results of last week development and something to 'play' with so you can see some hardware acceleration in action !
Enjoy Everyone and keep it friendly please!

If you're not going to maintain this rom does that mean we dont need to take any logcats or report any bugs to you or will all the info we have be needed by the other developers?
Just wanna know how much those who decide to take the plunge need to put this rom to its paces.

I am by no means an expert but given that tytung is currently working off an old codebase he'll probably rebase his ROM on this. And if he won't, someone else will. Anyways, bug reports will not go amiss.

Yeah but looking at the desire thread their ICS rom had more bugs than our roms prior to HWA. I thought it was more likely that once they figured out the reason they could boot this as opposed to booting the AOKP or a direct CM9 from source they would either switch to those two more reliable sources.
But oh'well, I'm bored so I'll just switch my main number to my BB and abuse this rom through the night.

Why wont you just let HD2 die I really want to buy HTC One X but this will keep my HD2 minimaly for another 6 months.

Hey.. no need to start that kind of 'drama' (sorry) already on the first page m8
I said : I won't be maintaining this for very long..
You know just as well as I do.. this is gonna be ground/base material for other devs/users to build on and make different ROMS/things out of it...
I am very busy maintaining the AOKP rom (which will need HWA also at some point) and these guys from Team Kang come with updates every week at least...
Our well respected CM9 rom maintainer tytung will probably take this over at some point and I don't think we need
3 different CM9 roms floating around (although.. I won't start counting the CM7 roms for that matter )
Besides CM9/AOKP/AOSP there are a lot of other nice ICS roms around (MIUI/SENSE) that could use some ICS love
Anyway... Post your logcats please !
I won't be around much the next couple of days, but there will probably be more people around helping out ( I hope )

I can confirm the compass and gyro tweak working on CM10 11/4 Nightly. What I'm wondering is what changes I should be looking for other than battery. (I will report on battery tomorrow after a full charge)

Flashed and haven't noticed much of a difference YET, though it has only been a few hours. I'm mostly happy about Photo sphere now working because of the gyroscope fixes! Will report back once I can run the battery through a full cycle. On most recent CM10 nightly.
Going to try on paranoid Kang. Will report back. Great idea and work btw!

also, after the flash of the fix on MIUIv4 JB build, the system is crashed. Status bar icons are all gone and after unlocking the phone and the screen turns black. Just thought I'd report back my results!
It seems incredibly snappy. There was only one time that there was a graphical artifact but I'm attributing that to the nightly, not the tweaks. My GPS locks super quick, I'm going town for a bit and will do some nav testing and some other testing. Again will report back. And thanks again!

I take NO responsibility for any damage.

CoolOS, i guess you are one of the best.
Your both roms were amazing.
Will flash this too and let you know my experiences.
By the way, still loving and running you GB MIUI.
Thanks again.

I would add for having a good balance Smoothness / battery.
Does this one will remain smooth after some weeks? that's the question I think!
@magikstar
Maybe soon I will add more Languages. Firstly I wanna change one thing in this rom.
@aryank
Try Faka 3.0.72 kernel it's really good.
@Kéno40
I added to my roms auto wipe dalvik-cache and cache after week of using - so no lag after long term of using.

Thanks. I will try but the SGS experience I had on this kind of ROm was that the system always slowed down, no matters if wiping of not....
I have flashed this Rom, but I didn't get an option to select kernel or any swaps.
It only gave an option for slim MIUI or full MIUI.
May be I should have selected slim right???
Also, I'm unable to change my themes, each time it asked me to create xiaomi account.
But still after creating an account, I wasn't able to change my theme, it said, sorry service is not available.
So even for applying theme do we need to create an account?
And ya, as you said, this Rom is smooth, but lags in multi tasking.
Browser, calls and msgs takes time to load up.
So till now this is what I have experienced.
Hope you'll take the development of this Rom a bit furture.
Thanks a lot for sharing your lovely creation.

If you wanna Customize your installation you should chose Customize Installation.
Your problem with themes is MIUI idea. Each time you wanna chose new theme you must active your internet connection - this is stupid think.
Miui v4 is heavy, so maybe some apps needs some time to load. I can lock some apps in memory to fast access but then you will get less ram to other apps.
Thanks a lot.
I guess your MIUI GB is my choice.
Faster, smoother & multitaskable. Overall GREAT...
It has most of the features of v4 too.
So reverting back to my MIUI GB nandroid.
Thanks for your help and support.
The only problem I've found is whenever the carrier shows up (I'm on AT&T), it shows "AT;ampT." I have a bad case of ocd. xD Other than that, yet another fantastic ROM.

Go to Control panel and change Carrier name. I can't fix this, because I can't recompile framework-miui-res.apk - really strange
Today I release version 1.2.1, this is changelog:
- locked Dialer, Contacts and Messages apps in memory - to fast access,
- fixed small lags after screen unlock.
Hi, i flashed this ROM to give feedback for the dev
Thanks for this nice MIUI ROM for this device, however i merely can test what works without SIM card
So...what i saw so far, it works quite smooth for the given RAM
No glitches so far
One reboot after i flashed it before i could configure it, but thats all i had so far
Besides that...i installed it with the htc keyboard and there i could not disable the haptic feedback, so i could disable it in the settings but when i got back it was enabled again
So far thanks again for the hard work, keep it up

ok, version 1.2.1 is up.
BTW
I compiled kernel from @qriozum 3.0.72 source, and I relocate ram from GPU to userspace and get +31MB of ram (standard 361MB - new kernel 392MB). Recording video in HD will not work, but 800x480 recording is fine, 3D performance is still good. I will share with this kernel soon.

What about graphics performance? Any glitches, or video playback or gaming performance?
Wont this hinder gpu performance. I mean, gpu handles them, so without gpu memory how is the performance.
Have you tried the kernel?
Sent from my HTC Desire Z using xda app-developers app
On Antutu, standard 3d score is about ~1800 with new kernel ~1750 (one test) sow no changes really. I tested Gta Vice city, and really no see diferrence, maybe less stutter because more ram for userspace. Playback videos on 720p works great.
Only disadvantage for now is no recording videos on 720p.
Getting huge graphical glitches in Google maps app, and play store shows the phone as T-Mobile Samsung GT-I9300, whats up with that
@up
Google maps glitches is probably caused by new Adreno libs (I will test it, and change that). Thx for reporting.

- FAQ -Q: KTweaker shows me NO PROFILES when I go there.
A: Download these 3 xmls and copy them to KTweaker/Profiles folder on your external sd card.
Q: I have some problems with the EXTERNAL SD CARD write.
A: Download this and flash it from recovery! Google has modified the default permissions for the external SD Card on Android 4.4 KitKat, which directly caused many of your favorite third parity apps lose read/write access to external SD card and became useless.
If it isn't working, try this from Google Play.
Q: I want to add more languages to my rom.
A: Download this and add what language you want!

So it's the same as more or less every other TW rom on the forum... Only with less things of interest? Cool. You haven't gave credits to anybody for the kernel other tweaks and mods you've used either and nothing in the rom makes it more "performance" oriented than any other TW rom that uses KT kernel (almost all roms)... So your branding becomes pointless. I'll pass.

Hello, firstly there are CREDITS in my post. Now, it's your choice and your own opinion, but learn to respect somebody's work. It's my first rom, mate, don't be such a mean person. I understood you don't like it, go and find another one, but respect my work.
Thanks for sharing the ROM, good luck

It's no different to any other rom? I didn't say I didn't like it... I asked the point of it's existence. You keep calling it performance and other words to the same effect.... But the one and ONLY difference from your rom to ANY other of the 1000000 TW roms on the forum (apart from them having more features) is that you included a poorly tuned kernel profile.

And I told you, it's my first release. It's your choice to test it or look for another one. There aren't 1000000 TW roms in this section. I would barely find ~30 updated ones. I just wanted to have this rom in these 30 roms. I can call my rom whatever I want, because it's made by me. It's my own way of presenting it, so what is your problem?

The rom title and write up is my problem it is misleading and inaccurate... I'm not hating and I welcome all new roms but yours isn't what you say it is.

Man, it says [FAST][SLIM]. Have you tested it already so you could say that it's innacurate?

You keep talking about performance and turbo charged.... It is nether of those... It's a stock rooted TW rom with a battery mod and a change of kernel.... And it isn't any faster than any other TW rom.. They are all pretty much the same in terms of speed if you truly want to build a rom based in speed and performance you should of built a AOSP rom.

Yeah, it's my first release. It's a good place to start. Now, as I said before. It's your own opinion, I respect it and that's it. I don't use AOSP because of the poor camera.

I'm going to give this a go, it's the first so it a starting point. It can only get better over time and it would be great it people just let you continue your work without complaining.
It's free to try, if you like it keep it if not move on.
Good luck with the rom
My advice, only listen to the important things rather than the complaints.
