I've noticed this too in the 1 amp car charger I have.

I use this Belkin iPad Micro Auto Power Charger that outputs 2.1A and it charges very quickly.

Can you confirm that your battery wont drain when running GPS?

It doesn't work like that. The phone will only draw as much current as it needs. You only need to make sure the output voltage is correct (which it will be for any charger with a USB port.)

The latest reviews on the above linked Belkin charger are horrible. It's almost as if it is for older phones. I'd personally look for a different charger. At least read the reviews before buying so you know what you are getting.

This is the same issue with HTC phones, when you charge via USB DC, it goes into a different charging mode and doesn't feed the phone the full 1amp it needs to feed the battery sucking GPS radio.
This mod lets you convert a DC USB charger to trick the phone into thinking it's an AC USB charger.
You need a 1 amp charger to do this.

It's not about it being 1A, that's only half the equation. It also needs to trick the phone into thinking that it's an AC USB charger.

Good car charger?

Where can I find a good car charger that charges my Evo at a good rate? This weekend I was traveling and was in Detroit for a few hours and my phone died, I get out into my car and plug the phone in and I have to wait about 10 minutes before I can even turn the phone on. Then I use it for about 10 minutes and the phone dies WHILE BEING PLUGGED IN!

When you connect your Evo to this charger does it show up in Battery Status as Charging (USB) or Charging (AC)?
Battery Status can be found by tapping Menu > Settings > About phone > Battery.

I bought a MicroUSB car charger made by Duracell for Blackberrys at Sears for $15. (I work at Sears, it was convenient.) That thing outperforms anything I could have hoped for. Listening to podcast on the highway while using it for nav and some Vlingo text messages (with Vlingo Actively listening) and it charges through all of it.

It shows up as AC. But I'll confirm it tomorrow when I go for a ride. My only issue with it so far is, i don't know if its the device or my car, that I dont get anything above 500mAh. So when I'm running GPS, 3G, music, and navigation, I'm usually losing 10-100mAh... I'm in contact with Kensington about it to see whats the deal. I'll be trying the charger in another car seeing as though my cars been having problems starting up in this cold weather.
I got two of these chargers from ebay for 4.50/each shipped. They charge as AC and I've used them with navigation. Actually quickly charges and I like the retractable cord plus comes with a wall charger. Check it out. Very decent buy for the cheap price.

Ah, I see what you're saying now(Checked this while charging on desktop). If this is the reason my Evo is losing charge then I'm curious to know if there is work around to this.

That's also why I'd like a definitive answer about the Kensington charger: So I can add it to the database.

Isn't there a limitation on the current the charger outputs while charging?
I didn't charge the Note. I originally posted this in another section for another phone model if you follow the link. I posted the thread here cause Note owners would get benefits from this charger in quicker times. I do like this one better than Apples 2A charger. Every phone charges slowly from PC USB port, right?
Do you think this would be safe? It's a cable that is designed for portable hard drives, to give them enough power. Maybe it would give the phone too much amperage (?)
My quick research finds that a typical PC USB port (and for sure Mac) has 500 mA power, so if you used this cable with two inputs, you'd be giving the Note 1000 mA which is basically like the wall charger, so it should be safe. What do you think?
I've used it for 4 full charges and the battery stays cool but charges fast. No problems to date. It's been a great find.
Well, i have been using the charger that came with my Galaxy tab wich is 2 amp, since atday one.
No problem at all. It charges in little more than an hour.
I also have been doing this for more than a year with mi exiphone and the charger from the Ipad.
Maybe in the long run the battery life suffers, but i haven't seen anything like that. And honestly, waiting two and a half hours to get the phone charged via regular charger and ready to go me is not an option.
Going to order one right now and give it a try.
Does anyone know of any car chargers that can charge at about the same speed?

Do the Apple 2A chargers for the iPad work for "fast charging" the Note? I know when I bought one in the hopes of fast charging my Galaxy S it didn't work. The Galaxy S just recognizes it as a regular USB charger. No matter which USB cable I use (even the OEM Samsung that came with the GalaxyS)
The charger I bought was this one from Macally, the CARUSB10 and it does not work for fast charging:
http://www.macally.com/en/Product/ArticleShow.asp?ArticleID=332
However, if I use my Samsung AC wall charger or my Wife's car charger for her Blackberry it is recognized as a "AC" charger and I get the good charging speed.

Old charger used on S3

Hi all,
I just found a 2 year old motorolla car charger with micro usb connection in my house. Anyone know if it would work with my S3?
Same thing with the equivalent AU charger of 850MAH ?
I would like your advice before connecting my phone.
thanks.
I have been using all of my old chargers. They all use the same power pins so it's fine. It's just if they have lower amperage than the original it will charge slower.
yeah should just charge slower. i believe stock S3 Charger is 1amp 5volts. i have been using my old ones from my GS1 which is .7amps volts. u can also scower the intertubes for essentially any charger with the 1amp 5volts output and you will be getting what the GS3 was designed for. might be worth the couple bucks to keep things "stock".
but yes it charges fine
Hmm...

I'm pretty sure it'll be good...been using some older chargers myself (have 2 cars, a minivan and my personal and my wife's is the 3rd...) so I have a mixture of them.
If you really wanna see, there's an app called Battery Widget or something like that, they show you the mAh or voltage that's charged at X time to and you can test each charger and see what's best. Some chargers are weaker (generally the USB ones)...but find that app (I've heard but never used/installed myself yet)...actually there should be a few of them free on the market.

But just remember this at least, use the STOCK (original USB cable) whenever connecting to the computer...I don't know if it's Samsung or whoever/whatever, but it won't work 100% unless it's the stock one. Trust me on this.
As long as it can charge go with it.

+1 on this. Takes longer when I'm using older charger or USB on a PC but it works.
i have no scientific basis to back this up...
but I never use non OEM charger that came with the phone. I find either other chargers don't supply the same juice, or even if they do, they still end up wrecking battery life.
my non scientific theory is that not only does it charge slower, it spends more time "fighting" the resistance to charge and somehow fails to charge the battery fully. i could be completely wrong but i stay away from using chargers that weren't meant for the phone/battery. it's worked well for me so far, whereas my friend who uses any random charger that "fits" has always had ****ty battery life with all her phones from nokia to blackberry to iphone
I'm using my HTC TYTN II charger with mini to micro as my second charger and it works.

Is this charger able to charge tablets. As far as I know, some tablets needs 12V output to be charged. For example Asus Transformer prime.
I got this one some time ago for my car. It's a kit with a wall and a car charger with 2 usb outlets from energizer. It does say it's for samsungs but this has charged just about anything (iphones, ipads, other phones, etc) that also had broken chargers, has never let me down for a few years now.
Both output 5V on 1A.

using chargers with a higher amperage may not necessarily affect the battery immensely
however negative effects may be noticed over longer periods of time (battery swelling, accelerated loss of charge)

The best chargers to use are the blackberry playbook chargers. Ive been using these things since the note 3 and they charge fast! They are like 15 dollars for 5 of them on ebay. OEM and all.

Most people agree and you can google for more assurance that they charged faster than the oem note 3 chargers. Im not exactly sure how fast it charges compared to this new "fast charging technology" but literally they charge so quick because of the ratings INPUT - 100-240V OUTPUT - 5V 1.8A. I dont even use my oem note 4 charger, i just have one of these in each room and they are perfect. Just ebay 1.8a blackberry playbook oem charger. The wire is pretty long too so thats great.
Edit: i have nothing to do with this ebay post or anything like that but here is what youre looking for. Just look around on ebay you will see people who have them in 3x or 5x bundles for like under 15.00

Correct. The Motorola turbo chargers are the same thing just a different name. So you can use those as well.
As for the charger ratings. It actually needs to be 9volts 1.67amps. To quick charge. And also it needs to be able to change to 5v 2amps. Because quick charge actually changes voltage and amperage in the middle of charging and slows down in order to protect the battery.

That's true. As long as it slows down when it gets up to a certain percent it's probably not that bad anyway
You can always just buy another one and swap it out though
Deals for batteries sometimes go around 30 bucks so it isn't that bad. I usually buy 2 anyways so I can have one just in case, but I don't think that will be an issue with the fast charging on this phone.
I ended up buying the Verizon Fast Charge chargers. confirmed to work with fastcharge as they're basically quickcharge 2.0 chargers.
