Can't update to EK02 - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

Stock EG30 can't update to EK02.
Baseband version says:
S710.10 S.EG30
Kernel version says:
2.6.35.7-SPH-D710.EG30-CL435734
Build number says
GINGERBREAD.EG30
i used the instructions for flashing the stock EG30 [after many attempts to flash to EK02 stock] with ODIN. Placed the EK02 on external SD card and booted into recovery (stock) tried to apply the update and it fails at updating modem each time.
EK02 MD5: 49bc6cab6887015557a4d4950813c554 *182a027d4f63.SPH-D710_update_EG30_to_EK02.zip
any suggestions or is this a return to sprint repair shop deal?

To flash that EG30 to EK02 zip, you need to have a custom recovery and be rooted. If you are stock and unrooted, check for system updates.

The system update that pops up telling me about a new firmware fails at the same spot updating modem.
And after the reboot I'm never notified of the update again and checking for firmware updates returns there is no new firmware update available.
Update
Just got the phone back from the store and they don't know what the issue is but suggested that i use CWM to do the upgrade. Sadly not even CWM can flash the modem i tried, and they will not warranty the phone because this isn't a problem the phone still works but i can't update the phone to the OTA

The store told you to use a root only function? That is one AWESOME store.
And... is the update the EK02, or the EG30? I can't tell. I don't want to flash the wrong thing. The OP stated they can't update to EK02, but the commenter stated that to flash to the EG30. So which one is it? What is the OTA update?

Eg30 is the stock software and ek02 is the update .Odin the stock tar provided in the link . Update over the air from sprint.

+1.... @OP It sounds like you are making it difficult for yourself and honestly the EL13 with nociq is really the way to go. Or if you are completely stock right now then use this method hereand just flash a EK02 rom. The one thing I can tell you is never go to the store. You dont want them to flag your account and if something bad really happens they blame it on root. I know they are not supposed to but why tempt fate

i had the same problem....i flashed back to stock rooted rom....used file manager to go into the cache file....there is an update .zip file called something about EG30 to EK02...i moved it to SD card...booted into recover (CWM) update vie sd card and BAM....2.3.6....it unrooted me...i used e4gtauto-sfx.exe to reroot

[Q] Update Notification won't go away

I flashed my Epic to EC05 using the official google zip, downloaded from google. The system About Phone shows the following:
FIrmware Version - 2.21
Baseband Version S700.0.5S.EC05
Kernel version 2.6.32.9
Build Number FROYO.EC05
Hardware Version D700.0.5
So clearly the updated worked, yet I continually get the standard OTA update notification for EC05. When I click restart and restall it reboots into CWM and then the signature verification fails. Anyone know how to fix this?
I would try flashing using Odin and the tar for EC05.
Pretty good Odin tutorial here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cW-PL7-T7_c&feature=feedf_more
EDIT
Ooops....looks like the tar is not available for stock EC05....in that case...odin back to eb13 and do OTA update to ec05.
EB13 stock tar can be found here:

EK02 OTA Update failing..

Hey guys,
So I am on EG30 modem (stock), and I only installed crawlcj's odexed stock rooted ROM.
I got the OTA update notification today morning and I just pressed update and walked away for like 30 minutes, and when I came back there was a yellow triangle with the android figure on the screen and it seemed to be stuck.
So I just held down the power button to turn the phone back on and it seems that the phone is still working fine under EG30 but EK02 was nowhere to be found.
I'd like to get the EK02, do you know why it failed and what I need to do to get the OTA to install correctly?
Thanks in advance
it failed because you are rooted and dont have stock recovery anymore. so if you want to upgrade to EK02 you should just flash the update that is posted already for rooted phones its fast and easy to do.this is the link to get you right to the new modem. after you flash the modem upgrade just chose a rom that has also be upgraded too. now you have the new update its just that easy

I'm going to jump onto this thread to because I'm having the same issue (and have searched this high and low for a solution). I have Crawrj's Stock EG30 Deodexed with Root 3.0/Busybox 1.18.4 on my phone. All I would like to do is to upgrade to EK02 and 2.3.6 (which I'm not sure if it's one and the same), remain stock but retain root. I don't have an SD card in my phone and I don't have clockworkmod (@ewalk4366 the video in your link assumes the upgrader has CWM). Since the OTA failed, I'm at a loss of how to proceed next. It seems I'm missing one thing or another when it comes to trying to upgrade. Any help would be appreciated.
P.S. Sorry for some noob butter but I still don't have all the terminology down correctly, so there may be times where I say modem but I mean rom and visa versa. For the sake of this thread, I think I'm saying what I mean.
just install the new EL13 modem using odin... i hope you are rooted

Thanks for your response but don't I still have the stock recovery? Crawlrj's odexed busybox rooted 3.0 rom didn't have any other recovery mods..
And I'd like to have the completely stock version of the EG30 ROM and the Modem.. So I should flash both? Wouldn't that erase my memory?
Skoksn,
I was using this thread and a few others to solve my problem which I think was similar to yours

Need to upgrade modem, on original odin root

Running the orignal stock rom with odin method root from about october of 2011. Sprint update fails to load so I'll need to update my modem manually. Currently on EG30. Recently been finally getting the dreaded LOS everyone talked about for months.
Is there an easy way to do this without wiping? Im totally satisfied with my phone's performance, just need to upgrade this modem finally.
TIA!
OTA fails because it detects a rooted device. Head over to development section, modems are stickied (link at bottom). Flash with Odin. Will not wipe data.

Ok, I found the sticky:

Seems there are a ton of modems now. What is the one sprint is using now? That is, the one that sprint is nagging me to upgrade to?
Well I upgraded to eg31 without a hitch. Seems sprint is still nagging me for an update. Is there a way to stop this message? Also, is eg31 the modem that sprint's OTA update installs?

OTA is not failing because it detected a "rooted" device per-se (it doesn't look for that at all)
It fails because the root method that was chosen accomplished its goal by using a modified kernel and the OTA patch update for the kernel won't work with a modified kernel. If the root method left the original kernel in tact and did the work through the ROM (as is done with the Auto Root sticky), then OTA would have worked (assuming no other changes other than root)

Correct me if i'm wrong anyone but EG31 was a leaked version, caused most of us to initially be unable to upgrade to EL26...could only from 30.

sprint's current ota is ek02. although the el29 modem is rumored to be the next ota. I believe you can freeze(if you are rooted) the system updates apk. I use titanium backup for it. just remember you won't be able to upgrade prl or profile or anything like that. if I am wrong please someone correct me.

well eg31 actually did come factory on some phones. eg12 was eg30 without the patch. we had that for a long while until eg30 was pulled successfully. ek02 came next. then el13, el26, then el29.

Correct in concept.
EG31 is a leak of what we thought was EG30, but actually was built a day later. Parts were still labeled as EG30 or EG30-Rev5 which led to some initial confusion. The components were slightly updated from EG30, meaning for the purposes of the EK02 OTA update, it wasn't the same as EG30.
The OTA update that depended on EG30 was EK02 (not EL26)

no, you won't have to re-odin, there is a tar file for el30 by toadlife

Does it matter if I used CWM instead to flash ShadowKernel will I have to install Odin and do this instead.

ICS Update

Hello All,
FYI: This is stock Not rooted.
I got the prompt this morning on my Sprint Galaxy S2 Epic Touch 4g for a system update to ICS It had a full charge I clicked to reboot it started counting down and all it did was reboot, it didn't update I checked the about section and the build and everything is the same and if I go to the system update area now it just says your phone is up to date. Any ideas on what happened?
Thanks in Advance.
Ryan B.l
Something probably went wrong and it didn't boot into recovery or if it did, it is possible the update had some issues.
There is probably a log file in the /cache directory somewhere.
If you really want FF18, IMO the simplest way is just download the pre-rooted FF18 ODIN OneClick here;

Thanks for the prompt reply, I appreciate it. I just booted into recovery and wiped the partition cache and rebooted to see if that would help at all. If not then I may just have to manually update as suggested.
I've been using one of Calkulin's ROMs - If I want to try out the stock ICS update, should I flash back to a stock GB ROM first or would I still get a notification to update?
If you are on a custom ROM, you might get the notification, but it won't pass the verification stage when it tries to install.
I would just use the pre-rooted FF18 ODIN OneClick (Full Version) available here:
