Go Launcher laggy on Galaxy Nexus? - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I am a fan of the launcher replacement go launcher and used it on my Droid incredible. I tried the ICS stock launcher and just missed the features go launcher provides so I went ahead and installed go launcher.
I have used it for a couple of days now and it seems very choppy and laggy especially when scrolling through screens and opening the app drawer. This seems odd because it ran very smooth on my Droid incredible.
Any ideas as to why a phone with faster hardware would run slower with this app? Thanks!

Its all to do with HW Rendering dude. ICS and the Galaxy Nexus is dependant on it. Take the stock Twitter app for example, its really choppy. Same with the Facebook app. Google have probably forgotten to turn on HW Rendering for third party apps. But I've heard in Android 4.0.3 it has been fixed so flash the ROM and see how it goes.

Will definitely await some feedback on this. Noticing so many of the 3rd party apps lag on the Nexus, it's shocking.
Fingers crossed for 4.0.3....

I have just flashed a very early version of 4.0.3 from AOSP and I have noticed ALOT of smoothness from third party apps, even the Browser is smooth. I'm unflashing for now though until Google release 4.0.3

I thought 4.0.3 was just for gsm? Is there a cdma one?

You tried Nova Launcher. Maintains stock look and feel with more options. I really like it and it is pretty smooth.

Why are so much apps so laggy?

I was so happy when I upgraded from a T-Mobile g2, but now I'm thinking it wasn't worth it
Everything was smooth on the g2 even if it was single core at 0.8ghz
When I use apps the scrolling isn't smooth at all, everything's so laggy, especially go launcher which I was using on the g2 without any problems
Do you guys think a future update will fix this?

I would say that there isn't many apps updated for ics yet.....only a few and that's why they don't run smooth....but I would guess that as more and more phones get ics, more and more apps will be updated too......at least that's what I think and hope......

The built in live wallpapers aren't optimized for ICS except phase beam. Wouldn't surprise me if a lot of others weren't either. Also.. if you are using a live wallpaper not optimized for ICS.. well there's your problem.
I'd bet, like most, that it hinges on the optimizations for ICS.
Keep in mind, ICS was a HUGE update (maybe not coming from 3.x but y'know) and app-devs have a ways to go before they're using the newer configs on all their apps. It'd be entertaining to see GB ported back over to the GN to see how well it ran.

Stock launcher not fluid?

Is the stock launcher not very fluid in its tasks? Switching between menus, settings and apps isn't always smooth. I'm not saying the phone isn't fast but the transition between one thing to another tends to be jerky for me.
Not be anal, just doesn't seem right for a high end device.

Not this again..... there are like 10 other threads asking what is the best ROM/kernel.
Look at all the roms in dev forums and find which one best suites you.
most popular combo is most likely aokp + franco.

Sense is a bit laggy

I think Sense is a bit laggy in my HOX. Is it possible to install apex launcher and not root the Phone? Or Will Sense run in background?

This is interesting. I am still stock but this is the smoothest Sense out of the box for me.
Are you rooted? If yes, did you port stuff from your phone? This would create problems especially switching from another version of Android.
If you aren't, it could be stuff that you have installed also.
Just a guess.
Could you specify where you get lags? I didn't really notice any lags. There are slight delays sometime (for example when you open the clock (defaults to world time, which sucks)) but that's to be expected. Other than that it seems very smooth to me.
You can download Apex or Nova Launcher from Play store and you don't have to have root. I prefer Apex because it just fels more smooth and has more options. And who thinks that Sense is not lagging should give Apex a try and than compare yourself
By the way Sense gets disabled by itself if you set Apex as default launcher. That's a 100 MB pure win on RAM.
Just by scrolling between homescreens, i only have clock/weather widget and contacts widget and calendar widget + some icons on my homescreens. Sometimes it runs totally smooth, and sometimes it lags when scrolling to the next screen.

I have gone from 2.1 to 4.0, in between using all kinds of launcher.
It's true in the earlier version the difference can be quite obvious. But I don't think so for 4.0. Sense may be slower, may be not. It is no longer obvious.
But I don't use fancy background, just a static picture. And I always turn off animation.
The OP is talking about smoothness and not response which I agree that sometimes sense causes some delay. But that split ms is harmless to me. I am not going anywhere in that time span anyway. But for the OP to notice such a difference is abnormal.
Apex launcher made me love and buy the device again lol
Sense fan since the early days, but not 4.0 i don't like the taste or will tolerate the lagginess on a quad core hot chip

With all due respect how can you honestly be okay with a half-baked phone? I am a galaxy SII owner and I've had my HTC one X for one day. I love the phone but sense still appears to be more of a memory hog and hindrance than anything else.
I know lots of people who are happy with SGSII's because the software largely functions as its supposed too (I still put vanilla ROM on it because touchwhizz is ugly) but I am already experiencing my htc rebooting the launcher everytime I press home after opening a few apps.. I also noticed that something like 650mb of the 1gb ram is being used when I turn the phone on... Sense is seriously a memory hog. Multitasking doesn't appear to be functioning how I'm used to on the S2. HTC should make sure they iron out kinks like this before they rush to market, after-all their USP is the software...
Even before I received my HTC one X i was reading weekly about bugs and problems people were having with it, which unnerved me a bit.
Thing is, I actually like some elements of sense and it's a vast improvement from my desire but the fact is I can see sense really dragging the performance down over the life of the handset. Even if I use Apex launcher, sense's launcher still drains memory.. I'm removing sense asap

Only solution is don't use them. You would think that the Gnex would be able to handle live wallpapers with no problems. Guess we'll have to wait for quad cores to run them smoothly.
The only wallpaper that I like is wave because it is beautiful and is very very smooth.. I recommend trying it.. It doesn't use much battery either..

Its gotta be some bug that Google hasn't fixed. These same wallpapers run OK on lesser phones, so its likely something software related.

Lesser phones at much lower resolution.
Do all of the live wallpapers lag for you? The only ones that lag on my phone are Bubbles and Microbes.
The only ones that lag are those not yet optimized.
Phase beam is awesome. I take it that OP is not stating that the device lags because of LWP.
It's definately a software issue.

Ok,i understand! However, even in my gnex the only live wallpaper that doesn't lag is phase beam. Thanks to everyone,if you have news let me know 'cause me too think that is an issue related to software
I sent a report to Google:
1-set the live wallpapers that lags
2-go to applications->running and select the live wallpaper that you're using
3-select report and write a description that can help developers to fix this issue.
I hope that as much people as possible will do this, maybe google will listen to us!

I guess, but does the note lag? Different gpu sure. But why does phase beam work smooth as can be, but the nexus amoeba one not? Are they that different in resource requirements where one works smooth and the other not? Both seem in the same ballpark to me. Something has to be going on...
To reduce lag in many wallpapers, just stop them from scrolling.
Simple.

I heard that turning on forced GPU rendering can get rid of the lag but turning that option on usually is more trouble than it's worth. It's something Google should have fixed a long time ago and it's baffling that they haven't.

I am running stock ICS and made just a few tweaks when i first got the device due to the 5 tweaks to make on ICS article. Thought sonething was wrong but read that force gpu might be cause.

Renderscript is already gpu accelerated, so forcing it is just doing what it already does.
The only one that works 100% smooth is phase beam, the others 1000% lag !

[Q] Strange delay on app drawer anyone else have this issue?

Hey guys, im not sure if this has been discussed before and I have googled the issue but no one has seemed to have pointed it out.
I am currently using ATOM rom on my GSM Maguro Galaxy Nexus and I have noticed a slight delay when flicking from page to page on my apps but it only happens upon opening the app drawer... I'm not sure if explaining it in words is the right thing but its the best I can do without recording the problem with a camera as I do not have a separate recording device to do so.
I'll go into more detail however, say for example I open my app drawer and I immediately swipe across to show more of my apps, there is a 1 second delay before it decides to acknowledge what I have done. Does anyone else have this issue?
Also I would like to point out that it is not the custom roms fault as it does this on every rom I have used, including stock rom.
Its not a huge deal of a problem but it is quite annoying as sometimes i'll swipe again and end up on the widgets page of my phone because I think my phone hasn't registered my finger correctly.
Thanks for reading guys
Weird?!?! I just tried this and I don't have that issue.

I was using Stock launcher, i've tried all of them launchers and they're all nice but just don't feel 'right'. I'm so picky . The ROM I am now using (installed last night) is Android Revolution HD and it seems to have solved at least a little bit of this delay which is strange because last time I had this rom installed I remember the lag still being there. I can also recall that 4.1.2 and below didn't have this random delay but 4.2.2 does?
