I have found a few quasi-similar in other forums. apologies if I should have searched more. I can't quite find an answer to this.
Rooted as described here using the Lost Kernel. Got Superuser app. Have since changed kernels, flashed modems, used Odin, put in ROMs, etc.
However, when I try to use busybox or Titanium backup, it tells I don't have root installed. That I don't have the su binaries or busybox installed.
What did I miss?
k
Download busy box from the market.

well, the thing is I already had BusyBox installed. And Titanium Root. But when I did either of them I was told I didn't have root.
Apparently, though...trying to install the su binaries - but FAILING (it error'ed out on install)...worked.
huh.

This originaly started as a flashable version of the su tools made available via the V6 Supercharger thread, specifically the ICS thread. Originally I made these flashables to address Segmentation Faults made noticeable during by zeppelinrox V6 scripting tools. Since I use these tools frequently, I plan to keep them up to date, and available for all. Unless otherwise noted, starting with "MS_Guru-One-Stop-su-Shop-v1.0-signed.zip" these flashables will be built as an "All Devices Compatible Flasher". If you find any of my tools helpful, hit the tanks button. I've attched all my installers, and you can also find my su tools and many more available at Goo.im. Happy flashing....
Don't install this on a GB build. This flashable is intended for ICS build's, and users receiving Segmentation Fault errors.
The same warnings from the V6 thread apply here: Installation Warning! If you mess up you will probably lose root! Have a nandroid backup! (But if you can follow instructions, you can restore your su binary with permissions still intact via ADB if I'm not mistaken)
Update 7-17-12: As of this date, "MS_Guru-One-Stop-su-Shop-v1.0-signed.zip" contains the most up to date Busybox, su binary, and Superuser app. Its signed, as well as flashable via CWM. Contained within this flashable you'll find.....
Busybox v1.20.2
Superuser.apk v3.1.3
su v3.1.1
Update 7-10-12: All of my tools and ROM's are now available from Goo.im. Check there for my latest and greatest. My most current full feature su flashable is MS_Guru-One-Stop-su-Shop_3.1.3_1.20.0_3.1.zip As of the posted date, it contains the most full feature, and stable, Superuser + su + Busybox tools available. Happy flashing... =)
Update 7-1-12: Superuser-3.1.3_Wraithdu-su+busybox-signed.zip
This CWM flashable is identical to "Update 6-30-12" in all respects except one. That difference being the upgrade of the Superuser app, from v3.1.2 to v3.1.3. Please reffer to "Update 6-30-12" for additional info.
Update 6-30-12: Superuser-3.1.2_Wraithdu-su+busybox-signed.zip
Included in this CWM flashable are the following files:
Superuser apk v3.1.2
wraithdu's modded su binary v3.1
wraithdu's Busybox v1.19.4, plus install script
Plus all permissions and symlinks are properly set
This corrects segmentation errors up to "V6_SuperCharger_for_Android-Update9_RC9_Test_18.sh". As of this date (6-30-2012) running the script "V6_SuperCharger_for_Android-Update9_RC10_Test_1.sh" causes su errors every time. I'm not sure if its the su or the script that's broken at the moment. I'm assuming V6, as I tested with both wraithdu's v3.1, as well as ChainsDD's. (( Just an FYI ))
Update 6-10-12: Superuser-3.1-alpha1_su-3.1_Busybox-v1.19.4-wraithdu-signed.zip
Same modded busybox and su as the 6-9 release, but I've included ChainsDD's Aplha 3.1 Superuser app This is an Alpha release, keep that in mind. But there's some pretty cool features in the latest Superuser app. Worthy of mention are "temp unroot" and "OTA Survival" (((I did NOT test these features, but the app seems to elevate permissions as expected))). For anyone curious, I received segmentation faults with the 3.1 binary list on ChainsDD's site, and the Busybox didn't fair so well either. Neither of which I've included. As of this date, avoid them both.:
Superuser apk Alpha v3.1
wraithdu's modded su binary v3.1
wraithdu's Busybox v1.19.4, plus install script
Plus all permissions and symlinks should be properly set
Update 6-9-12: Superuser-v3.0.7_su-3.1_Busybox-v1.19.4-wraithdu-signed.zip
I got tired of flashing multiple zips, so I compiled everything into one flashable. Included in this CWM flashable are the following files:
Superuser apk v3.0.7
wraithdu's modded su binary v3.1
wraithdu's Busybox v1.19.4, plus install script
Plus all permissions and symlinks should be properly set
6-8-12: The following contains only the Superuser apk v3.0.7 and wraithdu's modded su binary v3.1.
Superuser-3.1-signed.zip
Don't forget to thank:
wraithdu for his su binary and Busybox mod
zeppelinrox for the V6 thread, and all that it encompasses
ChainsDD's for everything he's contributed to the community
Nooby here, what is this?

This is an updated version of Superuser-3.0.7-efghi-signed.zip with wraithdu's 3.1 binary, signed and re-upped by yours truly.
This is mainly for ICS builds, and users getting Segmentation Fault errors. I have NOT tested this on GB builds as its unnecessary. If you flash it to a GB build and it causes you issues, your stupid and there's no hope for you.
Noob 101, if you don't know what it is, don't flash it!!
So u think we can use this to root our kies update monday?

Like I said, this is mainly for those with Segmentation Fault errors. I really can't say what will and won't work on a ROM that's yet to be released. But currently wraithdu's binary does correct the segmentation errors seen in the ICS builds available for download now.
I'd appreciate any feedback, granted the majority of this isn't my work, but I'll fix whatever I can if anyone encounters errors.
If you're gonna say this:

At least say it BIG:
THIS SUPERUSER BUILD IS FOR ICS, ONLY. IT IS NOT FOR GINGERBREAD.
I REPEAT, IT IS NOT, FOR GINGERBREAD.
This superuser binary is really only needed if you are wanting to run the V6 Supercharger. There are links to a cwm flash able of this in the zepplinrox threads about V6.

That's a lot better. I didn't hear anyone with segmentation problems over here so i was a bit confused on why it would be necessary

Make sure you make a nandroid before trying this. I tried to use the copy and paste method in Zeppelins supercharger thread and I ended up losing root in the process. I'm not saying flashing this thru recovery will cause you to lose root, I'm just saying be safe.

Actually that's a Busybox installer. This flashable first removes the old su binary and symlink, copies over the 3.0.7 Superuser apk, wraithdu's modded 3.1 su binary, then sets appropriate permissions and symlink.
Thanks a bunch!!!

I use the stock 4.0.3 rom, rooted by flashing the su binary to system.
Now I updated to the latest superuser market app, and it sees that there's a new version of su binary.
But when I try to update to this new su binary, everything else goes fine, but when it reaches the last step "Making sure new su works...", it says "Fail!".
What's going on?
Problem
I HAVE THIS PROBLEM Too i contacted chainfire but he doesnt answer me back.
Same issue here as well. It still grants all my apps superuser privileges though. I wonder if it matters?

Should I make a flashable zip with the latest su? That would work.

yes I'm having the same issue after flashing new ROM...but Tit Backup won't gain Root! ^^
Same issue.. The newest SU update is a fail. It's a total shock because it's always been solid in the past. We wouldn't be doing half the things we do on our phone without it
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
I also noted this when trying to update the binary on my GTab 7510. Only things I can suggest are choosing a ROM that has the latest Superuser + binary included, re-rooting with a newer root package, or uninstalling the update (although you constantly get the update notification which is annoying).
Same thing used to happen to me whenever I would try switching from SuperSU to Super User. Seems like SU anything from the market doesn't play nice with our phones.
i just reflash a root zip or superuser zip and that usually fixes it for me. no idea why its happening though.
I am running AOKP JB B1, just like suddenly, some of my Apps like DX tool box and DX power booster can't gain root access anymore, but other apps like root explorer work fine, I tried to update supersu and binary, no good.
Then I thought maybe I screw up the system because lots kernel flashed, so I just reflash AOKP JB B1 with full wipe , but still no good...
Could it be application compatibility problem or something wrong at my end?

Just a guess but some apps look for Superuser.apk to confirm root access. If your ROM has SuperSU.apk as SuperSU.apk that could be the issue. When I flash a ROM with SuperSU I always change the name to Superuser.apk.

a. update your busybox, use stericsons busybox updater from the play market. open the app, update busybox.
b. open your superuser or supersu app and make sure that your binaries are updated and that root is enabled. superuser has known issues with jelly bean.
c. if aokp has an optional root or no choice, enable root.

all other apps like ROOT EXPLORER , TRITIUM BACK UP, FRANCO KERNEL UPDATER, PGM2 and something more were able to gain access to root , only these 2 can't
this is the app that can not gain access ...

Guys/Gals,
I am running the newest version of PACman ROM by klin1344 on KToonsez Ktweaker kernel.
Cleanly installed, with newest Gapps
What I need help on:
I have an in settings superuser app (the new opensource settings integrated one from Koush) and I also have the standard SuperSU.
I was able to remove SuperSU, but wasn't getting prompted for any root requests afterwards. I also then went into the in-settings SU app to update the binary but wasn't prompted at all. I am wondering if I SHOULD be seeing a binary update prompt from the in-settings SU app? (this might be the extent of my issue) or if more steps need to be taken to migrate from 2 separate apps to one.
Any help is greatly appreciated!

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=38760467
Edit:
turns out, after removing SuperSU and rebooting I still retained access to root but I am no longer getting prompted for it nor do any of the apps requesting the permission get logged in the in-settings Superuser app.
You need to install the superSU app

Gotcha and that handles which apps get access correct?
Is there anyway to boil it down to the single in-settings app? Or do u think supersu is the only way, currently, to handle su requests?

I am constantly having issues with the built in superuser app in most 4.3 roms (in settings) and /system and "sdcard" storage... is there any way to update the built in su binary?
Right now I'm stuck installing supersu instead to get things to work right. I'd prefer to use the built in superuser though to avoid conflicts
On a side note, why do most roms include the most incompatible superuser app for 4.3 anyway? (I've found supersu works best, followed by superuser from the market with only a few issues, and the built in one does not work well at all with 4.3)

I dont know if you can change anything about superuser.. But you could have a look at developer settings. There are some settings regarding root access..
They use superuser because its open source. Supersu isnt (as far as I know)
