Hi,
I've been using Oxygen 2.0.3 for some time and I remember my battery has autonomy from 100 to 0%. The phone was shutting down at 1 or 0%, every single time.
So once I decided to backup and wipe battstats file. Since than my phone is shutting down at 9-10%. I've changed two Oxygen versions, full wipes etc etc. Nothing.
Tried with restoring old batterystats.bin file but the system overwrites it every time. Tried calibration - no changes.
Is it possible to restore old .bin file somehow? Could I take someone else's 'more precise' .bin and put it in my system?
Did you try to wipe the battery stats again in the recovery?
Sure, every time.
I've done calibration last day, deleted stats from recovery and now I'm waiting for the phone to shut down. At this moment it's on 9%...
Edit: Hm, 4% and still has 3640mA. Usually it shows 35xx mA at 9% and AFAIK that's the lowest point for li-ion batteries.
Edit2: Turned off at 1%. That's all what I wanted, but I'm not sure what have I done exactly to make batstats reading more accurate...
Here's the guide for rooting by rivera82falcon:

Guide for installing ROMs by me:
Before installing the ROM...
1, Download Titanium Backup from the market, allow superuser permissions, then click menu>batch>backup all user apps.
2. Make sure fastboot is off in settings>power.
3. Put the ROM zip on the root of your SD Card
4. Download SMS Backup and Restore, and backup your SMS.
5. Back up your contacts by checking "back up my data" or something like that under settings/privacy
How to install the ROM...
1. Turn off phone, and hold power and volume down until you get a white screen that says Hboot.
2.Volume down/up is for scrolling; power is for selecting.
3. Scroll down and select RECOVERY.
4. Scroll down and selected BACKUP AND RESTORE.
5. Select BACKUP and wait for it to finish.
6. Hit the back button to go back to the main menu.
7. Scroll down and select WIPE DATA/FACTORY RESET.
8. Scroll down and select WIPE CACHE PARTITION.
9.Hit the back button to go back to the main menu.
10. Scroll down and select ADVANCED, then WIPE DALVIK CACHE.
11. Hit the back button.
12. Select mounts and storage and select FORMAT SYSTEM.
13. Hit the back button to go back to the main menu.
14. Scroll down and select INSTALL ZIP FROM SD CARD, then CHOOSE ZIP FROM SD CARD, then whatever the ROM zip is.
15. Let it do its thing. This may take 5-10 minutes. DON'T PULL THE BATTERY.
16. When it is finished, hit the back button to go back to the main menu.
17. Select REBOOT SYSTEM NOW. This boot may take up to 15-20 minutes so be patient. Once again, do not pull the battery!
18. Run the initial setup. When you're setting up your google account, make sure the "keep data backed up" or whatever box is checked. This will make sure to restore your/keep your contacts backed up.
19. Redownload Titanium Backup. Hit menu/batch/restore missing apps with data.
20. Redownload SMS B+R. Restore your SMS.
21. Enjoy your new ROM!
Nice guide for those not wanting to use a ROM manager.
When I restore the user apps will that also restore the app settings and gamesaves?

I would recommend restoring the app only, and then go back and restore the data. You will then have whatever settings you had as well as game scores, levels etc after doing this. Just make sure that before you flash a new rom, to make a new backup, or at least a backup of the apps or games that may have had the settings, scores or levels changed. I have gotten into the habit of backing up my games after I get done playing. Nothing worse than flashing a new rom, and have to go back a few levels and start over
Just wondering - what exactly does formatting do? I've always done a system wipe, cache wipe, and dalvik wipe before flashing but I've never formatted. I've flashed a good half dozen ROMs without issue, so I was just wondering what the deal was with formatting.
I also haven't been wiping battery stats when flashing. That one makes sense to me though.

I wouldn't wipe batt stats unless your flashing on a full battery. Really just a full data wipe and dalvik cache wipe will do it.... Then mount system and fix permissions if you're having trouble with rom after install/reboot. Can't hurt to follow above procedures, minus a battery stat wipe every time. That will reduce your battery's life over time...

Formatting is generally used to erase the SD Card, such as if your were going to partion the SD Card, or change the File System IE Ext 3 to Ext 4.
Guys, I updated the OP, based on feedback.
And I think the reason that I did all that extra wiping was from back in the droid incredible 1 forums. When gingersense roms came out, the op's of every thread said to wipe EVERYTHING like 3 times. I just did everything once, but still. I probably didn't need to wipe all that stuff.
Maybe change the title to "Noob's Guide to Flashing ROMs Manually"? The noob way to flash a ROM (or managing/creating backups) is definitely using Rom Manager.
Done. Good point, although ROM manager is known to mess things up.
Yeah what's now in the OP is the exact procedure I've been using, it's been working great so far.

I've never wiped battery stats, not really sure what the benefit is. Used multiple batteries and ROMs on my previous phone.
If you do a factory reset it wipes your data and cache. I generally just do a factory reset/dalvik wipe on new ROMs. When flashing over a ROM, just format cache and dalvik.
If you are really picky you can go into advanced and wipe each partition there manually.
thanks for the great write up. i hope this isn't a stupid question, but when you're switching roms and doing all this formatting do you lose your pictures, text messages, contacts, etc.???
wiping cache and dalvik is redundant after doing a data wipe/ factory reset. dalvik cache lives on the data partition. and the factory reset wipes cache already anyway.

I wipe battery stats now, but not through recovery. I download battery calibration from the market, and follow the instructions in the app. Major increase in battery life.

If you wipe cache and/or dalvik cache only, no. If you wipe data/factory reset, you will lose any of the above on PHONE STORAGE. You can save pics to the SD card, so they won't be deleted, you can download SMS Backup and Restore from the market for texts. For contacts, some ROMs have backup assistant. For those that don't, make sure you check "backup my settings" under settings/privacy on your current ROM. This will back up your contacts to you google account. After you flash a new ROM, just check the "backup my settings" box when setting up your google account. Also, just redownload SMS B+R, and restore your SMS. If your pics are on the SD, they will still be there, you don't have to do anything. Hope this helps.
Lots of edits in the OP.

thank you so much, i've been doing a lot of reading but this has all the answers i was looking for in one place. i really appreciate it. thanks!!
This is the only guide I've managed to find that gives simple and concise instructions. Many other guides leave out steps, use different names for things, or use abstract terminology.
Very well done and a HUGE thank you! I'm new to rooting and I've been trying different roms like I've been doing it for years.
I'm glad I helped. I flashed my first ROM with my friend giving step-by-step instructions over the phone lol.
This is exactly what I do for ALL of my android devices.
However...especially when going from aosp to sense...or vice versa...system, data and cache should really be formatted.
This is really a solid habit to get into...as I do this with every ROM. This way I can accurately find bugs if applicable and helps me determine if the ROM quality is up to snuff.
Kinda like hand tightening lugs on wheels and torquing them.
Great writeup. Thanks!

I've been having this issue for the past couple of weeks and I don't know how to resolve it. At first I thought it might have been my ROM so I wiped everything clean and flashed a new ROM but the problem still exists. I read on a forum that the cache partition could be full so I used Terminal Emulator to check the disk usage and I'm reading that my /cache is 98% full. I also have a dalvik cache in the cache folder as well as a dalvik cache in my /data folder both of which are close to 300mb in size. I tried to clear the cache and dalvik cache in recovery before resorting to the full wipe and each time both cache rebuilt themselves. I'm completely at a loss and I'd really appreciate some help with this issue. Thanks in advance.
So you're out of space? Perhaps you have several backups from CWM taking up all the room. They are pretty large files. I myself keep my stock backup and my most recent, the rest of them rest on my pc.

thats not the case here. i dug around a bit and saw that my cache and dalvik cache are 98% full. as stated earlier i tried deleting the dalvik cache but it regenerates itself. i looked around in titanium backup and saw an option to integrate some of the cache to the system. i enabled that and it moved around 150 items around and freed up some space. i'm still around 88% full and i know this problem is gonna rear it's ugly head very soon so I'm trying to install programs like link2sd and as2d+. none of these programs are working though...they all require partitioned sd cards (which i have) but none of these programs are seeing the partitioned card. i've tried repartitioning under recovery but that does absolutely nothing. anyway e4gt users can take advantage of these programs?
I had the same issue and it was driving me crazy. I just downloaded Cache Fixer and ran it and now I am good. Turns out my cache was 95% full, wiped it using that tool and I can now update and download.
I want to add that after it cleared, I could update but some of the other apps on the phone did no work (Google Music and Dolphin Browser to nae a few). I re-boot and the cache is back to pre clearing levels and no other issues. It does temporarily fix the isse bt I do not have a permanent fix.
If anyone has one, I would love to know what that may be.
i just want to say that I am having the same exact issue and performed the same steps the OP did. Only when I wipe the cache with cache fixer it everything forces closes so i can't update anything. So i am really stuck.
The only success that I have temporarily is uninstalling the app then resinstalling it. But thats not a permanent solution and sucks for apps like beautiful widgets.
PLEASE HELP
EDIT: on calkulins 3.0 rom and self updated google play
Has anyone noticed or had a problem concerning the battery life on JB?
I've got AT&T running on rooted JB and in my battery screen it currently shows media eating 25 percent. This never happened on ICS.
Earlier today it was around 45-50 percent. I've never had terribly great battery life on it since I had it but what gives?
Thoughts, questions, comments?

Same thing here.
I read somewhere maybe a corrupted file(s) may be the culprit so,i formated my internal sd after a factory reset today, and still doing the battery draining.
After a fresh bootup, android.process.media is running for a good 30 min. non-stop.
The only workaround i found in another topic is installing startup manager and block the media process, but you need root acces.....
Very annoying...... i don't have that bug with ICS.
you can disable the media scanning with this app from the play store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.addz.mediascannerroot&hl=en
There's a few open bugs in Google Code tracker for this. This one seems to be the most "commented/stared". https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=37199
I upgraded my GS3 to the JB release the day after it came out. Had no problem until I put in my SD again (today) that had thousands of pictures and music files. Noticing the massive drain real fast.
Pulled the SD again, and problem goes away. I haven't tried an SD wipe yet, but looking at the bug reports that's not expected to help with 4.1. The corrupt media file is supposed to have been a 4.0 related bug...
I wiped my 16gb sdcard because I assume there was something corrupt or the phone continuously scanned for something on the external sdcard. Now I have nothing on the sdcard except for a cwm backup and haven't noticed the process running. I'll slowly add some files back when I need it.

I've noticed the drain too. All I do is force stop the process from my battery info screen.
It won't come back unless I reboot/reinsert the card.
I think it takes long time to scan the internal and microSD, if you have a CWM backup(s). I removed my backups off the microSD card and it seems to be fine now. Also, once it get indexed properly, I don't think it scans every time it restarts.
it's the CWM backups. change your backup type from .dup to .tar in CWM. reboot the phone. restore each nandroid that was created as .dup and back it up under the .tar setting. boot into CWM and delete the .dup backups and clear unused backup data.
the backups will use a bit more space but you will remove the blobs folder and it's thousands of files. these files are what is causing the media scanner to consume the battery.

I to now have this problem and without rebooting the media scan still starts back up after stopping it! I'm on bone stock jellybean.

In having this issue too. When I can I'm going to take my backups of my sdcard. See if that helps.

Cleaning up some images and cleared media and gallery data, fixed the issue for me.

do i need to boot up to the restored nandroid then reboot back into recovery to create a tar backup?
After a restore of the nandroid, can i just stay in recovery and run the backup as tar?
I was just force stopping the media service until I got that media scanner ROOT app. Works pretty good now my media battery and CPU usage are at a minimum.

In the last few days, my N7100 (which I gave to wife) has gone twice in bootloop by itself while idling.
Every time TWRP showed that the phone was unable to mount /efs.
By restoring the efs partition from a nandroid backup I could restart it again both times.
The double failure of /efs at less than a week distance makes me think there's something very wrong in the phone.
After first efs restore I did a factory reset and installed only 2-3 fundamental apps, so I don't think it's the fault of a rogue program.
Do you think my device is at the end of its life cycle? Is there anything I could do to fix it?
Thanks.
