S-[ON]/S-[OFF] Question - HTC Wildfire S

I've got an unbranded Wildfire S purchased from Phones 4 U and it came with an O2 Sim Card, it updated to 2.3.5 OTA last night, does that mean my Wildfire S is S-[OFF] and rootable or is it still S-[ON]?

You can check by going to Settings > Power > Disable Fast Boot.
Turn off the phone and then turn it on again while holding VOLUME DOWN at the same time.

Thank's for that, it's S-ON.
I don't get why you need to be S-OFF/Unlocked Boot loader to be able to root a HTC phone when you can root a Sony Ericsson phone with a locked boot loader. My Sony Ericsson Xperia X8 that's got a locked boot loader and Sim locked to O2 is rooted and running a custom Gingerbread ROM, but my unbranded (Sim Free) Wildfire S with locked boot loader is stuck with stock/official HTC Roms?

Because the NAND partition is locked.
S-ON > Security ON
S-OFF > Security OFF

You should seriously search the threads before posting......PLZ!!! it is a request to every noob coming on this forum...

Dual Booting on Wildfire S

Hey Guys, it's possible a dual boot on HTC Wildfire S? I would install Cyanogen Mod 7 + CyanoGen Mod 9 or other ROM.
Thanks
Ciao ragazzi, รจ possibile un dual boot su un HTC Wildfire S? Vorrei installare la Cyanogen Mod 7 + la Cyanogen Mod 9 o un'altra ROM.
Grazie
i seriously doubt it....wildfire s struggles for space as it is, without having 2 roms installed at the same time :O
Ok... but i have an HTC Wildfire and i have installed BootManager and i have 3 Roms...
If your phone is S-OFF(not BL Unlocked) then maybe
If it it is BL Unlocked, then no
If you have S-OFF'ed and BL Unlocked(Which is EXTREMELY STUPID),Then also the answer is no
I have a phone unlocked with HTC DEV...

BL Unlocked(aka BootLoader Unlocked) means unlocking from HTCdev..........so the answer is no
I have tried it myself(my phone is also unlocked from HTCdev),followed the instructions i got on asking the Bootmanager devs......Didnt work
Ok... So no hope? =(

Why is it extremely stupid to have an S-OFF phone with an unlocked bootloader?

Because an Unlocked bootloader restricts access to radio and a few other partitions
While S-OFF gives you total access to it........So by unlocking your bootloader while you are S-OFF,you purposely restricted access to partitions
In my opinion it is quite stupid

I don't think so.
In my opinion (which mostly is wrong) I think S-OFF + BL Unlocked = All S-OFF Features + just display of
****UNLOCKED****
MARVEL PVT SHIP S-OFF RL
BLA
BLA
That's what I think. It could also depend on the order of being done.
For example, I S-OFF my device and THEN get BL unlocked. There's a chance im restricted to modify radio or whatever since BL unlocked was the latest.
Second. I BL UNLOCK then I S-OFF. This way I get full control, despite having BL UNLOCKED.
Just my opinion.
And finally, @OP - Since the Wildfire has got Dual Booting And All, we may just need a dev to make a script that does it for OUR phone.

You maybe right,i'm no expert after all
But the reason why you can't dual boot on a BL Unlocked phone is that certain permissions are required for dual booting which only S-OFF phones can provide....
I've had talks with the Bootmanager devs via Email and they have explained me this stuff

As if I am an expert..
Well, in conclusion we need S-OFF.
Sent from my Wildfire S using xda premium
Dual booting is possible.
You must have installed full busybox.
If you firmware version is 2.26.401.3 boot manager did not work(i don't know how it will be in other versions)
You must have bootloader s-off, not unlocked from HTCDev. If you have unlocked it relock it and downgrade hboot to 1.08.0000(or something like that)
In boot manager probably phone setup will not work. Backup you boot partition from TWRP recovery. Boot rom from app. If you cant boot you phone rom flash boot img from fastboot or from TWRP.

This thread is EXTREMELY old..............I seriously see no reason to revive it, plus dual booting would actually imply towards installing 2 different roms on the phone or external storage and switching them conviniently, instead of using the recovery for it
