[INFO] dropped on the floor but no scratch found - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

taking off my coat but forgot it's in my pocket, so it dropped on the floor (wood) from about 1.7 meters, ouch!

Sorry to hear. Take solace in the fact that w/ most scratches, a screen protector will hide it and you won't even notice it, assuming the scratch isn't too deep.
EDIT: I just saw you said there was no scratch found. Glad to hear.

the weight of GN is lighter than my last phone Desrie HD, I think this is why there is no scratch

My phone fell out of my pocket in the theater last night onto the concrete floor and I was worried for the rest of the movie. Got out and not a single blemish on it! Seems to be fairly durable so far, not that I want to be testing that out.

I dropped my GSM version down a flight of stairs... about 6-8 steps at work.
Stairs/floor was carpeted though.
Phone bounced, slid, flipped.
Not a single scratch, dent, etc.
I had no screen protector on either.

You guys are lucky. Mine slipped off of a table onto concrete from about 4 feet high and I have some pretty nasty chips/dings on the plastic around the screen. I'm going to sell this one and get a new GN and keep it in a case at all times.

This thread just made me move my phone from the edge-ish of the table, to the middle of the table.
+1 for the shudders every time I read each experience with their "falls".

Dropped mine in an optus shop on their tiled floor, was comparing it to a moto razr . not a single mark
i know people always say that light devices feel 'cheap' however imo i prefer it causes less damage when you drop it, while i havnt done it yet with my cowon s9 when listening to music and if you drop it its too light to actually disconnect the headphones so it just swings there , im hoping the GN will be similar if it ever happens

I was jogging and dropped my Nexus on pavement. Got some scratches in the housing...*cringe* but the screen is still flawless. :-(

got 2 light scratches on the sides thinking of calling Verizon and making up an excuse to get another one sent

Things like, what case did you have, and how far did you drop it from? Did it break? Or hold it's own?
i dropped once. no case no guard about chest height probably 1.5m. no damage and screen flicker disappeared dont know what happened but it was magical

I don't know how I did it, but I somehow managed to launch my phone halfway across the floor and face/screen-down onto laminate floor. No damage, but it went with such a bang that I really expected to see a crack!
Mine slipped out of my hand while I was drunk, hit the ground and then I kicked it and it slid for about 3 metres.
Result was a nasty dent on the lower left corner and a scratched camera lens.
Think the phone escaped much worse damage by some good luck.
Edit: Should also mention that the glass popped out of the body on one side, and had to be clicked back into place.
Dropped mine with no case from a hight of about 3.5 feet. It fell face up onto a linoleum floor, hit on a corner and then slid a few feet.
There was no visible damage anywhere. With all the noise it made and as much as it slid I expected scratch on the polycarbonate or a cracked screen at the corner. Was please to see it was perfectly fine including the camera lens. I think the polycarbonate is pretty sturdy.
The lens and screen are the areas to be concerned about.
Dropped mine from 1.5 meters height with the screen side to the ground on a sidewalk. After it got dropped it made a slide on the sidewalk for about 15 cm.
I really thought it would had scratches on the screen or something, but it didn't. Only a little minor scratch between the screen and the body.
Used for a bit of emergency navigation in the ash-tray of our car (Sensation fit in there perfectly) it slid out on a corner, about 6 inches. Slid over metal or grit because it got 2 scratches on the glass along with a nasty little gouge at the start of one.
I can live with it, I know Gorilla Glass is not magical. Got screen protectors now.
Mine slid out of my hand while I was sitting on the edge of the Mississippi river, faced down across the grass and then onto some rocks. Got some small scratches in the screen I'm gonna wait a couple months then replace it using ensquare
Dropped mine, screen popped out, but since then damn good battery life. Really wierd.

God that sounds horrible. I would of cried if I saw that incident happen to this beautiful phone.
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2
I was doing cardio at the gym on a treadmill. The phone was resting on the display area so I could watch a TV show while doing my steady-state cardio session. When I finished, I got off the treadmill without taking my headphones out of my ears, I accidentally hit the cord and it yanked the phone off it's resting place, it hit the safety-bar/arm rail thing, and then hit the plastic border of the treadmill, and then landed on the carpeted floor. After I resumed my breathing and my heart started beating again, I picked it up and there was only a tiny smudge on the back which rubbed out with my finger. It didn't even turn off. This was with no case.
Yikes.
No Damage
No case/protectors on mine. It slipped out of my hands while sitting & bounced/slid .5 m on a hard tile floor. I expected something, but it came away unscathed!
Still getting both a case & screen protector, just to be safe

I wasn't far from it but just thankful the phone still does everything it should. The scratches on the camera were around the metal rim so no effect on picture quality.
I ordered a case for it the next day.
I was walking to the kitchen while replying to an SMS.
Kitchen almost reached, I was at the estabilished goal! Let's put the phone in its pouch.... OH NO!
I've accidentally launched it, dunno how, on the floor with the screen faced down: the whole thing happened in like one second, but it was an hard and LONG second (felt like 30 seconds), with me there with the pouch in my hands and the X falling on the floor.
I walked and took my One X, raised it from the floor carefully.......
...

( suspance time )

......and it was surprisingly perfect! Not a scratch, but something really not noticeable on the lower right corner of the phone shell.
That was a real horror movie

A dent? Like the plastic is bent inward as metal would be? Or there's like a chunk of plastic missing (rubbed away?)
Anyhow...
I'm glad to hear it fares well in minor skirmishes!
Looks like the choice to spring with a phone with Guerrilla Glass was a good move (Can anyone attest to it being better than other screen materials?)
Also, from the sound of it, the claims that the One X is "flimsy" don't seem quite as sturdy as the phone itself? What do you think?
I've dropped my 3 times so far, well technically I've dropped it twice and thrown it once.
The 2 times I dropped it were both onto carpet so did not damage the phone ( from about 60cm once and 80cm the second time)
The time I threw it was from about 50cm high and about the same distance out onto laminate flooring because I was using it in the bath and had finished with it, was fine on this occasion too.

Lg OG strength.

Hey all, I recently dropped my LGOG on bathroom tiles from about chest height, without a cover.
And I am pleased to say that I have left with only a few scuffs on the chrome lining.
Now I know that it depends on luck and how it lands, but I must say I am impressed with the phones ability to withstand drops from that height.
I have also dropped it twice before on concrete.
Anybody else feel free to add your opinion.
Mine also felt on bathroom tiles,i was scarred to pick it up,but then i was surprised like you.
Nothing,not a single scratch
Im very pleased with my OG

Dropped mine at work today with protector case. It landed from 1 meter down and rolled. It landed on LCD. When i look at it nothing. My case saved it.
Mine fell from a dressor thats over 4 feet high on to the hard wood floor. It happend twice and not a scratch on the phone. I didnt have a case or screen protector on the phone either. I'm sure the way the phone landed helped but regardless its a very solid built phone.
Mine also fell from my pocket and nothing happened. It really gives the vibe of a really solid and nice built phone. It's such a shame to have to put a case on it since it looks so slim and gorgeous without one haha
One thing I noticed is that without a case I find it too slippery...
On the way to my vacation i sat down next to the road. My LGOG fell 10 centimeters screen down. The screen shatteret. Touch does not work where it hit. So 50% of the touch is not working. :crying:
Well, good i also have my 2 years old LG Optimus 2X with me. That thing has more scratches and landings face down than i can count. :good:

Mine has managed to slip out of my pocket onto concrete and it was fine.
It has slid down the side of the couch a few times and that's when it got damaged. Got some scuffs in the right hand bottom corner and the chrome was bent, it fell down again last night and the bent bit of chrome came off. Tiny amount, hardly noticable but still, gutted =(
It is such a pretty phone I don't want to put a cover on it but I so need to
I kept some of the plastic strips on the sides that it came with to kind of help it lol
I also find it hard to put a cover onto as the back is simply stunning.
But seeing as it is new and it is on a 24 month plan I must make it last.
A few chips on the chrome sides I can live with.
I did manage to put full knee weight on the back of it, in a tent. I then heard a 'plop'.. The back shattered, but the cracks don't run over the camera - - there is this mini contour, like a millimeter high, that prevented that. All the other times I dropped it ( 3, 4 times) the kind of bookish cover saved the day, as it should. So the back is no more, but with the casing still the front is free of any scratches. The G is a resilient phone.. It just has some trouble with 180 pounds of pressure on a corner Still, pretty impressive, everything works!

you guys are some lucky s.o.bs man i dropped my phone during lunch (im a senior in highschool) and no cracks yay! but absoluteley no touchscreen no no no!!
The phone fell to the ground a couple of times, no issues at all. Also one time I took my guitar from the wall hanger, but it slipped and the headstock hit hard on the screen (what a noise it made!), not even a scratch. I'm surprised.
I have my E975 slip out of my hands while connected to charger when the cable snagged. It flipped around, and smashed onto my table's glass surface over a 6" drop. The entire front glass shattered. Had to replace it myself, the entire front assembly. It was an expensive lesson. I've since slipped on a ugly case
Just dropped my phone from a 4 feet high cabinet last night and there wasn't any crack, scratch or dings, I'm really impressed with the build of this phone

Any cracked screens?

Just wondering how everyone's phones is holding up since there aren't any real good protective cases or user drop test videos yet. I haven't dropped my oppo yet but I'm curious to find out who has and how the phone stood up to the fall.
I have for sure had some issues and I am not happy with them. somehow my screen has scratches on it, in 2 or 3 places. In the very top right corner it is starting to look like air bubbles under a screen protector, where the screen glass actually looks like it is coming off. It has fallen once, and bounced, the bottom corner of the bezel is damaged due to the fall. The scratches appeared on my screen weeks before the fall.

I took off the screen protector as it wasn't fitted properly in one of the corners, I have ordered more as the screen is a dust magnet. I have ordered the iFace Mall cases for my phone, it's so annoying having to order accessories from China because no-one in the UK seems to sell them.
I dropped my oppo twice by now.
The first time from about 30cm on tiled flor, and the second time yesterday from about one meter on tiled floor.
At the first fall it falls on the upper left edge, there you can see that the metalframe had prevented more damage.
At the second fall it fall on the display side. Now the "plastic frame" arround the screen prevented damage to the screen.
Ha I managed to drop mine today as well about 3 1/2 feet on to hard concrete and it bounced on 3 corners and the back cover popped off. I just knew once I picked it up that it was done for but the screen was untouched and the metal bumper took allot of the impact. If this would of been my old iphone it would of certainly cracked. Very happy with the durability of this phone.

I just bought oppo find 7 last week because of the good spec they offer but I was dissapointed with it after only 1 week. My oppo have been heating up frequently and sometimes a bit lagging. My phone was very hot on the first day itself while I was just setting up my new phone such as installing app and sync my account. I can feel it even with the casing. And it also a bit laggy when wake up from sleep. When I double tap, the screen will wake up but I need to wait few second before it respond. Sometimes I need to double tap to off and on again a few time only it works. Its sometimes get annoying when you want to access your phone quickly. But this, I still can bare with but what finally drew the last straw is the fragility of the phone. I always put my phone in the small pouch inside my handbag. And yesterday when I come back home, I found out the screen on my phone is crack. I was so shock and try to recall what I did and I remember when I ask my friend to pass me my bag, she did put down my bag on the table a bit harder. And that's the only thing I think can think of that cause the most impact. I was so sad and disappointed with oppo because the screen crack just because of this small impact even though its protected with a casing and a curve hd tempered glass. Its so different from what was advertised with the toughness of their guerilla glass if it can't even withstand this small impact which other phone brand have no problem with it. This experience is making me doubting the quality of oppo phone and its only been a week since I bought it. Now my friend and family also starting to doubt oppo phone since what happen to my phone.
Well a week ago my oppo fall on the road, cracking on the left side, top of it
I use a protective case of transparent plastic, but on the corners, near the screen, doesn`t protect well....:crying:
Finally, some days ago i discover that the cracks, are from my Nilkellin screen protector, and not the Gorilla itself!:laugh:
I order another Nilkellin H9 and im very happy to make the investiment on this, because it seems it really protected my screen!:angel:
cracked and dead
Lets start this out with a disclaimer... I HAVE NEVER HAD A CRACKED SCREEN BEFORE... but I managed to be in a hurry one day at the store getting my son out of his car seat and dropped my phone from waste height onto the concrete... poof, the screen is killed and all touch responsiveness gone.. So, I order a screen off aliexpress, it gets here and I install it.... Two days later I'm on a bike ride up my favorite trail (phone in a padded pocket of a backpack) and I ate hit a rock coming down forcing my balls into my handlebars but overall still staying on the bike. Get to the bottom of the mountain, take phone out to turn off the gps, and there is my nice and new screen cracked again... again with no touch response.
Fast forward like 4 months and I finally calmed down enough to order another screen and try again. Let's see how long this one lasts, lol.... This time I did order a tempered glass screen protector from the get-go, so hopefully that helps.
Hi giznad. You replaced the screen or led the task to a technician? I can't find a video for the Find 7a. It was dificult to do?
Thanks.

Screen Durability/Scratch Resistance

Hi all,
So I bought a OP3 used from some dude online. Phone was in great condition when I saw it. Only had a light scratch on the screen. Noticeable, but nothing to cry about. I did wonder what the guy could have done to it (and why he removed the screen protector) since it is GG4 and is supposed to be the newest of the new, but whatever. Well, a few days ago, I had to put the phone away in a locker and it was stored along with other phones. I did not notice until a day later, but it has a whole bunch of little scratches on the screen now. Just wanted to ask you all if anyone has had similar issues. My Nexus 6p has never gotten a scratch and I have always had it without a screen protector. I also am always careful with my devices. Never been dropped either.
Thanks,
I leave this here for you.

Yes indeed, mines are even very noticeable with the screen on...this device actually has a very bad screen resistance
Ok first of all every phone with gorilla glass 4 will scratch identically. Tired of all this my phone is scratched my other phones never scratched in every XDA forum for a specific phone. EVERY PHONE WILL SCRATCH IN YOUR POCKET. Tiny particles of silica are inside the grit in your pockets which is much harder than glass and if you rub your phone in your pocket it will scratch, and this happens every day. Every phone I've had without a screen protector is eventually filled with micro scratches. My Galaxy S3, HTC M7, galaxy S4, LG G2, xperia Z2, galaxy S5, galaxy S6 all scratched slowly over time. Its normal, get a screen protector and you won't complain

Uhhmm.. It's not really a complaint. I am just wondering why they are soo noticeable. I am looking at my 6p right now on direct light and at my OP3. I treat them both the same, wear the same clothes (not every day), put them in the same pocket all the time and never put anything else in that pocket but the phone. Both phones are not using cases. I see no noticeable scratches (to me) on the 6p. The oneplus 3's are very noticeable. If you are tired of the posts, then go complain to the people that make the videos of them scratching the phones with picks that do not mimic real world usage. I just posted to read what others thought. I mean the phone is awesome and everything and scratches aren't gonna hurt performance but I was literally in awe because I have never scratched a phone as noticeable as the OP3 has gotten.
Sand will easily scratch any glass even gorilla glass, regardless of your phone.
I didn't like the screen protector that came with my OP3 because it muted the sharpness of the screen. I tried a couple tempered glass protectors off Amazon and they didn't adhere truly to 100% of the screen...so I threw both out. I was about to settle for another screen protector, however I decided I just liked the sharpness of the display with nothing on it, along with the natural oleophobic feel of the glass. I decided that since the phone was only 399 that I'd wing it and see how long I could get out of using it the way I truly enjoyed it before I detected the slightest of any flaw on the screen. It's been approx. two months now and I love using the display with no protection, and still don't have a single scratch. I regularly have the phone in my pocket, along with constantly transferring it between my car cradle and my house/office. I regularly clean the phone every evening....wipe down the back with a dab of alcohol on a tissue, and a dab of water to wipe down screen. Never use anything other than water on the screen because it will deteriorate the oleophobic coating. So far so good.

Then you're doing something wrong with the OP3. The pick test is a real world test. If 2 screens require a level 6 on the mobs scale then it will require something of that hardness or higher to scratch your screen. The OP3 and 6P have the same exact screen hardness, they will scratch exactly the same. You or someone probably moved your phone while it was flat on its screen and it went over some grit or something which scratched the screen. It happens and it sucks.

Yeah you are probably right. It sucks that it happened so quick though. What I don't like about the pick test is that they should at least show what they mean by level 6 or give a little more explanation. In any case, this was not being made to rant on the phone quality because it is a very well made phone for the price. It exceeded my expectations coming from previous OP devices. I am perfectly fine with the phone. I ordered a TG protector. Hopefully it can hide some of the scratches.

This is a tough phone

Had my phone since it was released and I've just dropped it again, for the 3rd time, on hard kitchen tiles. Amazingly, it still shows no damage and everything works perfectly, 1 drop on previous phones has always meant cracks on screen, dents, scratches etc. I'm so impressed that it's as tough as HTC says.
Sent from my HTC 10 using XDA-Developers mobile app
This may have been pointed out to you already, but ... it might be wise to invest in a case or some kind of screen protection Unless you already have, but from what you said
" 1 drop on previous phones has always meant cracks on screen, dents, scratches etc"
Its is better to be safe than sorry. Adertised toughness is not a garuntee of no damage, and in my experience, Gorrilla Glass is one of the easiest things to break. Having tempered glass on top at least saves you from the worst case scenario.
I managed to pull mine of the kitchen table onto the hard tiles, got an impressive dent in the corner. Really surprised the screen survived. My son dropped my wife's G4 from a distance of about 1 foot on the same floor and totally destroyed the screen.
http://imgur.com/a/bXOYo
Dropped mine off of a work platform under a bridge at work. Fell about 30', survived. The one corner got buggered up a little, but it's in a hybrid hard plastic\tpu case never see it. I was completely dumbfounded when I picked it up and the screen wasn't broke. Phone works fine.
Yep. The day I got it I dropped it onto my hardwood floor so I quickly picked up the phone and checked for dings and dents. The phone was fine but the floor had a dent in it lmao.
It depends on where it lands, I must be unlucky as I dropped it from about 2ft with a gel case on it, It landed right on the top corner. I have a single crack going from where speaker is cut out to the side. its not too bad as its a tiny portion of the glass but annoying..
It's 99% random seriously.

Totally agree with this point, it's totally random (well to a degree)
For example there's a video of the One X with a user hammering a nail through a 2 x 4, really gives it the beans too (i'm sure you've all seen the video)
However the same phone my friend dropped his from hand to elbow height and the phone's screen cracked, little more than a month later i dropped a One S onto ceramic tiles from around 10 feet, nothing but a small dent, it's luck how it lands and as such it's luck as to what happens.
Not saying it's not a tough phone but it's completely unique in each case.
Grab a tech 21 and worry less.
In had great luck with drops also
Had mine slip from my hands and cartwheel down a flight of steps. Screen intact. A minor scuff on the corner. Most wiped away as of it were dust. Like some kind of self healing metal. Something I noticed, it would do this flip everytime the back touched the floor, made me think of how parkour runners tumble as they land. The chamfered edges I think we're designed to not only make it structurally sound, but also disperse fall damage. Why you barely see dings on it because it has the tendency to want to roll onto that curved back and when it does it just actually rolls, into the chamfered edge where it promotes a tumble. Without slow motion video I can't know for sure, but if I'm right, this is masterful engineering at work here. This is HTC engineers running virtual simulations at the design level for something most phone manufacturers never even dream of factoring in. .. And they get no love.
I would never try to purposely drop my phone, but it was dropped by my butterfinger hands and it still stayed intact so I agree... this phone is durable. All their years of experience has been shown because of their build quality.
I have dropped this phone so many times, its not funny. The bugger keeps going. This is the toughest phone I have seen. The solid build is why I chose HTC 10, and it has lived up to that every day. After having used this phone for last so many months, I can definitely say that this is one of the most underrated phones ever.
Lol @ all, just pop a tech 21 case on it and be worry free. No case means risk. Like I said before you can use a one X as a hammer but I've seen them break from less than 2 feet in height. It is complete luck. Of course the strength of the phone plays a part and the htc 10 is built like a rock, just don't risk it.. Plus it will scratch like hell including the screen.
HTC phones are tanks. I only put a case on if I'm partying lol. I've had 4 HTC phones and I've only broke my Evo 3d screen. cracked my galaxy s3 and iPhone 6 (3 times). I stopped using cases the entire time on HTC's since the m8 because I don't feel the need to, dropped both plenty of times without any damage.
my 10 may be 20 or more times dropped to ground on screen and back and edges nothing effected the screen and performances but cracks on edges
EDit: forget to mention beside these drops another phones dropped down on it from 2 meters nothing happned to screen just little cracks on sim tray .
I've dropped mine about 7x, mostly from standing height and left only a few dents here and there. The last one though, I had it in my inside coat pocked and leaned over and it slipped out (was only about 2-3' from the ground) but hit right where the front / selfie camera is at and cracked the screen from there all the way down. It was still fully usable which gave me enough time to do the uh-oh protection replacement. Definitely would agree with the 99% random comment.
Structural soundness is not random
I would argue that it is highly unfair to say that it is random chance that a phone breaks or not. Yes, it is random in the sense that you don't control how it lands. For example, it could land face down, or it could land on the side, which would stress the phone in completely different ways and maybe break it. However, whether it breaks, for every possible impact combination, depends entirely on the engineering of the phone.
If you randomly drop a hundred phones of the same model, on average, you would definitely see the difference between a well-engineered phone a poorly engineered phone.
