Directions:
Download the latest version or version confirmed to be working on your device.
Extract the contents of the zip to the desktop. You will need winrar, 7zip or the stock windows one may work. I prefer 7zip as it is free. OneClickRoot_xxx what ever version you downloaded it on the desktop.
Once extracted in your folder you put on the desktop. You should have a tools folder & a OneClickRoot.bat.
Enable usb debugging on your phone. As far as I know all devices have it in Menu>Settings>Applications>Devolopment>Usb Debugging.
Once enabled plug your usb cable in to the phone & your pc. Followed by select charge only at the usb prompt.
Now double click the OneClickRoot.bat, if windows 7 or vista you may need to right click and open as admin. Though shouldn't need too.
Now just set back the whole 1 min it takes to do it's thing. At prompts follow what it says. It will then reboot and you should has superuser installed and root permissions.
If not and you get a error, please post the output in your post.
Warning do not fill the thread with does not work. Please post the output of the script. You can put it in the post or copy and paste it on pastebin.org. Followed by putting the link to it in the post. If you decide not to follow the above directions, your post will be ignored.

I do this for fun, how ever the followers make it more worthwhile. Where if it wasn't for you guys I would have probably stopped awhile ago. Then the next thanks goes to the ones that confirmed the devices.
Cdrice: Confirmed on electrify 2.3.5
Simmon: From android forums confirmed Virgin Mobile Wildfire S
Sparkey: Confirmed Uscc Wildfire S
Then off to the people if it weren't for them. So say thanks to the people or teams for the hard work.
Aplha-rev for zergrush, though is based on gingerbreak. Without this nothing would be possible.
Then chainsdd for Superuser

This doesn't work for me. GSM wildfire s A510e
My output:
http://pastebin.com/Ab9XsqNN
It will only work for WFS without the sim card slot.
A wildfire with a simcard slot would be gsm. Where gsm or cdma will not matter. How ever it gained temp root but according to the output your system is to small to push the needed stuff. Which I find a bit weird.
If someone will what is adb shell and then df's output?

11.39mb for system. 15mb for data.
Sent from my HTC Wildfire S A510e using XDA App
But for perm Root your Wildfire s must be S Off.
Not that I am doubting you but says who? I know there is several cdma ones that have tried it. How ever I don't know if they were s-on or off. I will say though that my htc merge and hero s was s-on when the tool was ran. Which I know they are emmc where the wildfire isn't. Where the only device that I have close to the wildfire is the desire, but is already s-off.

With all do respect but are u sure that you are posting this tool in the right thread?
All of the time you are talking about "wildfire" codename HTC Buzz, and this thread is about "wildfire s" codename HTC Marvel.
Anyways I've tried it and this is the result

My phone has 59mb of internal memory free and more than 6gb free on memcard.
If you read the thread I am for sure posting in the right spot.... Just because I didn't put a simple letter by s doesn't mean I'm not. Honestly just shorter for me to type wildfire. I know the error in your post as two cdma's have mentioned it and now you two guys. I can verify the tool works as others have tried it, the only thing is I am pretty sure they were s-off.
Now unless htc has did something different on the Wildfire S (See there be the S) S-on or off doesn't matter. As now that I recall when playing with the cdma desire when they were locked on froyo you could gain temp root and push stuff still with s-on. Which is what the tool is doing. I won't for say call it perm-root as my definition of perm root is you can do what ever. How ever the tool only allows for root to stick on a reboot.
Which as you can see by your output of the script. That zerg gained temp root but is spitting out errors of not enough space. Which what you referred to as in your card and storage has nothing to do with where the stuff is being pushed to. What I mean by this is the sd card is not even used by the script. Then where the stuff is being pushed is to system. Where your internal storage free is referring to the data partition.
Edit: Keep in mind I also do not have the device and have depended on others to confirm anything I did works.
If you want to know what is free on the system partition it is adb shell then df -f or df.
Don't think it will work. Its just revolutionary, like alpharev these software tools dont work on wfs, due to other type of memory.
didn't notice any errors during the process, it said it gained root etc, but when it restarts the phone, the root is gone again.
this is on my Wildfire a510e on 2.3.5 s-on. other temp root methods work for apps that need root though.

You are comparing different things, also two things that are the same. Revolutionary is unrevoked & revolutionary's new name. They are s-off tools so that is why it doesn't work, as they write modded h-boots. This tool is not a s-off tool. I am also aware of what the wildfire s is. It is a nand device, same thing as the desire. Where in all honesty there is a reason they can be had so cheap. Which is due to the old technology.

This is not a temp root tool. How ever if you don't let it reboot you will have temp root if you like. I can change that part in the script though. As honestly a reboot isn't needed. I don't know who from your guys parts confirmed it but supposably the htc super tool. That was originally made for the design 4g, confirmed it worked. Or it says it in his first post that it is confirmed on the wildfire s.
Where if that tool is one you are referring to or if it does work. It uses the same exploit as this, which is zergrush. As I said though the only experience I have with nand is from the desire where I was able to gain temp root on it to play with stuff. At that time I never thought to try perm-root on it. Where if you guys do need s-off I will change the first post to needing s-off. Otherwise I do not know as no one has showed nothing that it is needed. I will have to see what I can find out.
Edit: The more digging I do I can switch this to temp root for s-on and perm root for s-off. Where it looks like even though you get temp root nand is still not write-able.

That is correct.
I tried the process on my Wildfire S, and I get the same results as on the previous screenshot.
I proceeded to do the process on my Linux box, copying&pasting each line with the required path/changes for the OS, and even though I am "root", I can't write to anything on /system, even though it shows the partition as r/w.
Thanks for the info For now I am switch it over to s-off only till I can play with a different one for the wildfire s.

Doesn't work on WildFire S 2.3.5 - same results as infected85.

Hey guys,
I'll start with a heads up; complete newb here so I hope i have the right forum/section. Furthermore I appologise for my English, it is not my native language so I hope I can make myself clear. So far for the disclaimers.
Here's the situation; I have a Dutch HTC desire and I am absolutely lost in the rooting proces. I'll give you guys my specs first;
Phone
- HTC Desire running Android 2.2 Froyo from the OTA update
- Hboot version 0.92.0001
- NO Goldcard, regular microSD 4 gig that came with the device, haven't altered it
- Radio 5.09.00.20
PC:
- Windows 7 x64
- HTC Sync installed
Now I want root, preferebly with OpenDesire and A2SD so have been googling about the entire weekend now, but haven't found any guides that match my specs fully, havent got a clue where to start really with the rooting process. For instance; most downgrading guides talk about needing to use Hboot 0.92, where mine is 0.92.0001. Also some guides tell me I need a goldcard, others say I don't.
This is where I'm at right now, having read several guides these are the steps I think I have to take;
1. Backup everything using Mybackuppro
2. Downgrade using PB99IMG.ZIP. Is this correct, and will it work with my Hboot? Will I need a Goldcard for this?
3. Root the phone using Unrevoked. Will this work, concedering I have HTC Sync installed, and if no will a normal uninstall through the Windows programs uninstall be sufficient for "Uninstall HTC Sync completely" or are further meassures required? Will it work on my radio version, or is this not of any matter at this point?
I believe that at this point, my phone is worthless, right? There is no rom installed, so at this point I would need to install a rom. So on to step 4;
4. Install OpenDesire rom. I have read things about it having to be a zip file, the files I found though were .exe's Will the .exe do, or have I found the wrong files? Also I read that in order for the camera to work on OD, i need radio version 5.x, which I do. Will the rooting/downgrading proces make any changes to the radio version also?
5. Is this it? Have I missed anything, or are these roughly the steps I have to take to downgrade from 2.2, root, and install OD (which I believe also is a 2.2 version, with the JIT correct?)
Any tips, advises and remarks would be highly appriciated, coming from an ancient Nokia E65 I'm sort of unsure how to handle Android, how import small nuances like the exact version of Hboot are.
Also, if I have left out any important information please do not hesitate to ask, i'll reply ASAP.
Not one reply? Anyone?

Dude did u manage to root your desire let me know ? i can pm you the links
You probably have the new phones which is with the SLCD screens. There is currently only 1 method to root those. But you need to operate with a black screen. Which means you won't be sure if you really pressed the right option or not. Try search for the SLCD root for HTC Desire.

Downgrading will require a goldcard if your phone is network branded. It is necessary to root your phone.

Still have the AMOLED version, not the SLCD one... Was one the first with a Desire in Holland, just sort of late with rooting it... and now there's hundreds of outdated tuturials, making it hard to figure out which ones still work

Ok, thx. I bought the phone without any form of network branding, your post implies that I will not be needing a goldcard then, correct? Or do I need it anyway for A2SD?
Right, what ROM is on it at the moment? IF it's 2.09.405.8 then do the following...
Download this file:
http://shipped-roms.com/shipped/Bra...8U_4.06.00.02_2_release_126984_signed_txt.zip
and rename it PB99IMG.zip (not PB99IMG.zip.zip!!) and copy to the root of your SD card. Turn phone off and boot into HBOOT by holding Vol-down whilst turning it on. Follow the instructions and allow it to update (assuming it works). Once done, reboot and you'll be back on 1.21.405.x and you can now root your phone using unrEVOked
OR
Read this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=768256
If you run this utility it will tell you if you need a goldcard. If you do need one, you can quit it, make one, and run it again.

The problem with the first method is that it corrupts your misc partition, which will need fixing. The second one takes care of everything.
Worked like a charm guys, thanks so much! Running OpenDesire right now, absolutely love it! Thanks again!

Didn't on mine...
hey guys.. i'm almost ready to post a video on this.. haven't had luck with any help so i am reposting with what i've done.
I need info on what could have went wrong or a point out on a possible step i missed.
I uninstalled sync, phone is charge only, I checked multiple times to make sure boot loader was installed.. the only weird thing with that is when i hit volume down and power into bootloader mode I only have 4 options and not the fifth bottom option that i am supposed to select as shown in the few videos posted.
The root program goes through.. the phone sits there and reboots like 2 or 3 times and the program looks good.. then the one last thing where it says r****** into recovery then the phone goes into recovery the the program on the computer says done. The phone runs through steps.. then last step in recovery it says varifying system type and then has a list
E: unsupported radio version..
E: i forget..
something about sim card..
failure
on the phone it says super users is on there.. so i did titanium backup and tried to run it and it said root not found. lol this is supposed to be easy guys what am I missing???
Your not alone. I experienced the same. Unrevoked my newly arrived desire (orig. 2.2 Sept. 2010 release).
SU was installed and I can access all dir (r only) but have no rights deleting system apps.

You don't have the exact same problem, what you have is a working Unrevoked root which gives you only read access when booted and r/w access when in recovery. If you want to delete system apps while booted try this, reed it carefully and understand the risks off what your gone do. (If you however S-off your CDMA Desire with Unrevoked i said nothing)
Sorry about the first problem, don't know how to solve that.
Thanks for the reply and I stand corrected. It is a working Unrevoked (thanks to those guys) but I don't want to s-off my desire atm.
I did the process assuming that given SU privileges would allow me r-w access to the system/app dir.
One other thing, titanium backup does not run saying the phone is not rooted. It is really the issue of doing S-OFF which I want to postpone for now.

unrevoked is a "soft root" or "shell root" it dosent allow write access to /system/ while the device is booted, this is because the bootloader has certain security measures built in, when you security unlock your bootloader "s-off" the bootloader is tricked into ignoring these security flags, giving you full write access to your device
so basically I need to s-off the phone in order to be able to do what I want... delete apps and what not..
Edit: This guide is for EXPERIENCED users ONLY! For less experienced users please check UBERROOT easy full Root, S-OFF, SuperCID AND SIM UNLOCK for DZ/G2/DHD inc Voda .
Remember to always read and research before rooting! Discussion can be found starting on post #101 - #118 ~TheRomMistress

Please be aware that I am not responsible for any bricks etc. This is playing around with the phone internals, so be careful.
To get full write access to the Desire Z, we now have an Engineering HBOOT which was posted by MrPaveL (Thanks for that!).
To get your device to the engineering hboot stage [this is not full radio S-OFF, but 99% of people won't need radio S-OFF], please follow the guide below.
If you want full Radio S-OFF, SuperCID or want to remove the simlock on your phone, please follow this guide on instead. Once you have full Radio S-OFF you can use any Desire Z HBOOT and still have access to flash ROMs etc.

This guide was derived from the guide for the G2, created by unrevoked512 on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=833965. Also many thanks to vro25 for improvement suggestions.
You will need the following files:
VISIONary r14
wpthis-Z.ko MD5 c73c5e77c91d306c418983c002b60b93
hboot_7230_0.84.2000_100908.nb0 MD5 2ce1bdd5e4c1119ccfcecb938710d742
Step 1
Download and run VISIONary r14
Leave everything uncheck and click "temp root" now.
Once that's done click "Attempt Permroot Now!"
You now have permaroot.
Step 2
Push the files wpthis-Z.ko and hboot_7230_0.84.2000_100908.nb0 to /data/local/
Note: You might want to verify the MD5 sums, particularly for the hboot file, as if your download was corrupted, the file will brick your phone.
Step 3
Open a terminal on your phone, or open an adb shell from your computer.
Step 4
Code:
$ su
# insmod /data/local/wpthis-Z.ko
Note: make sure your screen is on before doing this as it will raise a root request on your phone (if you haven't previously granted it) - click ok on your phone to grant root.
It should return:
Code:
init_module 'wpthis-Z.ko' failed (Function not implemented)
That is good.
Step 5
FINAL WARNING: THIS STEP COULD SEVERELY DAMAGE YOUR PHONE. USING THE INCORRECT FILE COULD CAUSE IRREPARABLE DAMAGE, MAKING YOUR PHONE NOTHING MORE THAN A BRICK.
That noted, if you would like S-OFF, go ahead and run this command in your terminal.
Code:
# dd if=/data/local/hboot_7230_0.84.2000_100908.nb0 of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p18
Step 6
I think this is optional, but there are controversial opinions at the moment. In any case it will not hurt to run
Code:
# sync
to make absolutely sure everything will be saved.
Now reboot your phone gracefully and check that everything sticks.
Step 7 (optional)
This step is optional, if you want to install Clockwork Recovery.
Download ROM Manager from the market and install Clockwork, telling it that you have an HTC G2 when it asks. It will work without problems on the Desire Z.
Step 8 (optional)
This step is optional if you want to install an overclocked kernel. You might want to do a nandroid backup first, in case you want to go back later (just restore boot).
This overclocked kernel seems to crash the phone after Youtube videos are played in fullscreen. This issue is being investigated, but could take a while to resolve, since HTC hasn't released the actual DZ kernel source...
I have now recompiled the overclocked kernel for the Desire Z (all credit goes again to coolbho3000 for publishing the source!), to get the FM Radio to work as well. To get it to work please follow the guide on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=834219, but instead of the zImage posted there (which breaks FM Radio on the Desire Z), get the one from http://www.opencodes.org/node/14 . You still need to use the bcm4329.ko file from the other thread. Also note that this will change your kernel version to 2.6.32.17 (instead of 2.6.32.21 stock). Please blame HTC for not releasing the newest kernel source. In any case I have not spotted any disadvantages...
So far I have not spotted any problems with this kernel, but if you do, let me know.
PS Bacon-bits by cyanogen do not fully work on the DZ. It won't boot with that ramdisk and the lights hack seems to fail as well. It is probably safest to wait for a full CM release, but this guide gets you 90% of bacon-bits.

Hi all,
I have just managed to get clockwork recovery work on the Desire Z. It's a bit hacky at the moment, and will probably get much easier in the due course. I am not going to post every little step that you can find out by googling, and please be aware that I am not responsible for any bricks etc. This is playing around with the phone internals, so be careful.
The reason it is this hacky is that we do not have an engineering bootloader for the Desire Z yet.
Download wpthis-Z.ko and wpthis-pre-OTA.ko from
http://content.modaco.net/dropzone/wpthis-Z.ko and
http://unforgiven512.udderweb.com/downloads/wpthis-pre-OTA.ko and put them in /data/local on the phone.
Download newest version of ROM Manager
Disable write protection via wpthis-Z.ko
Flash clockwork recovery from ROM Manager
Reboot into recovery
Make a nandroid backup !!!!!
Mount /data in Clockwork
Use wpthis-pre-OTA.ko in recovery to disable write protection.
You now have a fully working recovery. (note you will need to use wpthis-pre-OTA.ko step everytime you boot into recovery and want to write something from recovery [not needed for nandroid backups])

Your a genius dude Keep up the good work
We need quality devs like you to get this party started
JD
As soon as I did this step:
Disable write protection via wpthis-Z.ko
EDIT:
this is exactly what I did:
$ su
# insmod /data/local/wpthis-Z.ko
got this as result: failed (Function not implemented)
then all applications stopped working, ROM Manager crashed as soon as I select G2 from confirmation dialog when trying to flash Clockwork.
I then tried GMails and got loads of error popups, had to restart phone to get back to normal
EDIT: I do have Visionary installed set to Root on boot.

I urge you not to do anything in this direction, if you haven't even got permroot yet. Look at the G2 permroot forums, where all of these things are answered. The error is supposed to appear. Please be very careful if you don't want to end up with a brick.
I was afraid to do the G2 permanent root because it involved dd command and some G2 HBOOT file. There was one Desire Z user who ended up stuck in bootloader and have seen no other desire Z owners confirming this to work.
I guess I wait...
Sent from Desire Z
I flashed the desire z rom on my g2 yesterday after root, is my g2 now considered a desire z? if so it should be okay for me to follow these instructions right?

You don't need the eng hboot to get permroot... You just need to temproot with write-protection disabled. But as you say, it's best to wait until the right tools come out.

Exactly, that's what the logic sugests.
I was hoping to:
Temp root with Visionary (already done)
Disable write protection via wpthis-Z.ko
then try "sync" command to write changes.
Then, after reboot, I should have perm root and nand on read-only.
But I got scared by the errors I got after I disabled write protection.

You've probably still got a G2 hboot, right ? Like the G2 eng hboot ? If so, then it's still really a G2 running a Desire Z ROM. But I can't answer your main question, I'm sure someone else will be able to though.

No, your phone still has the G2 partition layout, so none of this is probably needed for you as your bootloader should already show S-OFF...
I have a g2 so most of this doesnt pertain to me, but as im trying to help someone currently stuck in a hard place thought maybe u could help.
My question has to do with after clockwork is installed. Why do u have to run wpthis.ko in recovery. Shouldnt wp be turned off in recovery? thats how the phone updates stock.

I just tested doing a nand restore without using wpthis-Z.ko and it *seems* to be working. I haven't flashed anything yet so i can't be sure but it seems like it worked

Well, for me it was able to flash system, but not boot. My guess would be hboot wouldn't work either. [Obviously it won't return an error... It will think it had written, when in fact it hadn't.]
As for the post before that, the fact that stock recovery can flash images says nothing about other recoveries being able to do the same. Stock recovery could disable wp for example.
In any case it would be nice to have permanent write-access...

Dont take this as arguement, cause as ive said i dont have a z, just going by what ive thought to be right. With that being said, the fact that wp is off in stock recovery does say something. The bootloader is what sets wp on/off so if the bootloader is loading the recovery(which it thinks is stock) wp SHOULD be off. i guess a good way to test would be after a nandroid, flash a zip thats only a boot.img and see if it takes.
Heres another question then, what about using the g2 eng recovery?

wp is definately off in recovery but the problem is probably "your update-binary or updater-script (don't use update-script)" in koush's own words. Anyways i hope we find a way around this soon
FYI: Method updated to reflect the fact that we now have an ENG hboot.

Good work.
Just a suggestion, but I think it would be a lot clearer if, instead of two lots of "follow this except don't do this bit", you were to copy out the whole procedure and change those two bits appropriately ?
Just trying to help minimise the chances of bricks.

Yes, I agree and would like to do that, but wanted to ask unforgiven512 first to integrate it into his guide, as it seems to much overhead to maintain two guides of essentially the same procedure...
Now both devices have a fully working eng bootloader, we really need to merge these two forums into an "HTC VISION" one!
As the thread title, is it currently possible to root / install a custom rom on a HD running the official OTA Gingerbread release?
I have a vodafone branded HTC Desire HD (not locked to any network though) - and have recently upgrade to Gingerbread via the OTA update.
If it is possible, a link to the procedure / downloads would be appreciated.
Thank you in advance...
No, You need to downgrade first, search forum.
Yea ofcourse you can ... GingerBreak is what its called...
Here you go: LINK
Read the WHOLE POST, and make sure you have the required specifications needed to use gingerbreak.
:::I personally havent used this, but in the link i gave you, some people said that v1.2 worked with the desire hd. You can go and read some user comments (or alternatively use the "search" to search for posts with desire hd in it, and see their feedback)
Yes . But if your build version is 1.84 you'll have to downgrade before you can root / install a recovery .
Here's an easy guide for downgrading ( Even I followed it.)
[GUIDE] How to downgrade 1.7x/1.8x/2.x to 1.32.405.6 by jkoljo
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=905003
I did it! I was up till 4.45am last night (this morning) rooting my phone and installing custom rom (its bloody addictive aint it)
The only snag I hit, was the first step to create a gold card (I have a branded Desire HD)... I used this procedure...
http://theunlockr.com/2010/03/10/how-to-create-a-goldcard/
When it came to running the following command
adb shell
cat /sys/class/mmc_host/mmc1/mmc1:*/cid
it failed! It wasn't until I did considerable research, that someone suggested changing to mmc4... which worked.
Everything else... vision, radio etc worked perfectly.. now the proud owner of a HTC Desire HD running Android Revolution HD
You have to downgrade first
Woooot!

To be completely honest, when I first got my HD, I vowed not to root it, due to the hassle of the initial procedure, not to mention loosing the convenience of OTA updates and the potential of voiding warranty. It wasn't until I stumbled across this community by accident, did I see the sheer diversity of options / roms / hacks etc, that it became too enticing not to root

+1 for that.
I rooted my DHD just 2 days back, and i got to say, anyone using unrooted device is missing a whole bunch of cool things.
Can you sum what you do for root your device please?
And for the screen, you can use the SDK (ddms.bat) if your phone is not root
Hi I'd be very interested how toy did it on gingerbread as well. I get kinda temproot and a problem worth the sd card only? Most people think that it does not work with gingerbreak on dhd?
Rooting*the HTC Desire HD (GingerBread 2.3.3)
Hi gcarter,
I'm trying to root my HTC Desire HD after upgrading it to GingerBread.
Here is my system information.
Android*version: 2.3.3
HTC Sense version: 2.1
Baseband version: 12.54.60.2SU_26.09.04.11_M2
Kernel*version: 2.6.35.10-gg0956377 [email protected]#1
Compile date: Tue Mar 29 06:10:15 CST 2001
Firmware*version: 2.36.163.13
Navigator version: WebKit/533.1
I'm able to get temporary root using GingerBreak. But I did not manage to go further. In order to help the rest of the world to get out of the @Secuflag HTC jail, I'm wrting all the steps in sites.google.com/site/arabic4android/root-htc-desire-hd[/url] and would like to come with a completely safe solution for me and the others.
If you can help me describing exactly the original ROM you were using and the commands you used, the links you visited, as much as you can, I'll be very grateful.
Thanks,
Hello guys.
I've been reading through this forum for the last week, trying to downgrade my DHD but I think I'm doing something wrong, I'm getting really pissed off right now.
I recently updated via OTA:
Baseband: 12.54.60.25U_26.09.04.11_M2
Build Number: 2.36.405.8 CL47853
I jusr can't downgrade, or root without downgrading.
Do I even have to downgrade? Since my FW is pre 2.37?
Even so, when I try to downgrade, i do the adb thingy in the cmd, everything goes well, I get the # thing at the end when I type su and so on.
But, when I turn off the phone and reboot it into a bootloader, nothing happens, no update process, it just sits there in bootloader.
Why is that?
I've made a goldcard using GoldCardTool (i used MMC0 instead of MMC1, there was no MMC2 option, just 1 and 0).
-I enabled debuging
-switched to charge only
-my phone is fully charged
-I even made a factory reset prior doing all of this
I've also tryed rooting without downgrading.
Gingerbreak puts superuser on the phone, i think I get temproot (when I type SU in terminal emulator, # appeares), but as soon as i restart the phone, superuser is removed.
Visionary+ goes to black screen, and I don't understand why since my FW is prior 2.37 (I know you can't root those yet, or downgrade).
And even if my FW is too "new", why can't i downgrade? It just won't start the update process when I reboot to bootloader.
Everything else I do in cmd with adb goes well.
Recently I had HTC Hero, and I think it took me about half an hour to root it, simple and easy (it was my first HTC), so I really want to root my DHD, but it is turning into a nightmare.
Please, what am I doing wrong?
Thank You.
EDIT: I've tryed with AMT now also, it says my FW is not compatible, that I have to run gingerbreak first, then click downgrade in AMT.
Since GB cant temproot my phone, I did it with adb, got SU, clicked Downgrade in AMT, and it reports that I have permroot Permissions, that my device's number has been set to 1.00.405.1 and that I can proceed with downgrade as normal.
So I've tryed going into cmd adb again, did the whole proces again, rebooted into bootloader and nothing! I'm going crazy now.

this means you just facing S-ON issue. Please read my analysis on https : // sites.google.com/site/arabic4android/root-htc-desire-hd
Hi,
I have no practise yet with custom ROMs but anyway I think the following points (my goal: increase the internal memory) could interest most of Wildfire S users as this one is extremly small (118 MB ONLY!)...
Installation of a custom ROM for Data2SD is really useful...
May I summarize some facts first?...
Normally rooting of HTC works like that: unbranding (if necessary) by CID and GoldCard (whatever GC is) and clean Firmware, then rooting by “reflash_package.exe" (unrevoked3) and then inserting custom ROMs by ClockworkModeRecovery.
The device can stay in s-on mode here. (s. http://einsteinno1.de/htc-wildfire-custom-rom-tutorial/#custom)
Remark: There seems to be still another easier method to root a mobile phone instead of unrevoked3:
Team C-Skills: installation of a wrapper App around Gingerbreak exploit: 'Gingerbreak.apk'.
(s. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1044765)
The problem e.g. with HTC's Gingerbread V.2.3 of S-models now is that the boot loader is locked (encrypted?). So here the boot loader cannot be modified by unrevoked3 (or Gingerbreak.apk) anymore. Now there must be done s.th. that the device does not boot with this boot loader anymore. This can only be done by setting it to s-off (disabling the HTC's security mechanisms), right?
And this can only be done by the xtc clip (~100€)! It is plugged to the SIM card contacts... What does it do in detail here? Does anybody know?...
However, after using it the device 'suddenly' is s-off and rooted.
After having used xtc clip custom ROMs can be installed like usual.
________________________
Now I read that HTC announced to offer a 'boot loader unlock' software for all those models with encr. bl soon. So then xtc clip is not needed anymore, right?
(hope 'soon' does not mean another half year of waiting...)
However, if that lasts too long, is there anybody in south-west Germany who would lend me his xtc clip then?...
Before doing A2SD+ (or even much better Data2SD) it is necessary to create a second SD card partition with e.g. 'ROM Manager'.
But is there already a reliable Data2SD custom ROM for Wildfire S? Does anybody has practise with 'Everything Data2SD.zip' already?...
And then, as the whole processing now always passes the device's SD card interface: Did anybody notice any disadvantages with this mobile during Data2SD usage? (lower speed, bad stability, etc.)
Please correct me now if there is anything wrong in my description!
Now I have some further little questions:
1.) Can I rollback A2SD+ or Data2SD?
2.) Can I rollback S-off to S-on ? (getting back guarantee) Remark: Gingerbreak seems to offer an option for this
3.) What happens at an OTA upgrade? S-off or Data2SD keeps as it is?...
4.) Is there a way to do S-off just once (no temproot)?
5.) Where can I find a collection of custom ROMs?
5b) Can I add Bluetooth profiles by custom ROMs?
6.) Can I copy system apps from a rooted mobile (to run on a simular model)
I know, this is a lot. Hope that does not overload anybody... ;-)
Thank you for all your comments to it!
Many greetings.
Yes you need a second partition which you can make in Rom manager to use the app2sd function.
At the moment there is zero roms available for the Wildfire S.
When I used the app2sd function on my original Wildfire I had no changes in stability etc. Just that when I restart the phone I had to wait a few minutes for the apps to be available
Now for you other questions:
1) I wouldn't know. I assume you can
2) No. You cannot make S-off back to S-on but I doubt anyone would check if you needed to send it off. And if they did just say it was S-off when it was bought and the warranty guidelines say nothing about it being voided if it was S-off
3) S-off Will stay and root etc will stay as the bootloader and security flag is unlocked.
4) No Need as S-off is permanent.
5) In this forum when they are made
5b) Wouldn't know until roms become available.
6) I think you can but it would depend if they would work and are compatible with the rom.
I hope I have helped you a bit
thank you very much for answering!!
There are just some points left now...
1.) is all of it correct what I wrote/summarized in the beginning (before the line) of my last message?
2.) What do you say to the mentioned second rooting method of Team C-skill instead of unrevoked3? Does it really work as well?...
3.) Is it correct that xtc clip is not necessary if bootloader is unlocked?
3b) Do you think from what you have heard of HTC and the past activities of them in general that HTC will release this announced software (soon)?...
4.) What does xtc clip do in detail?
5.) Do you know about the progress of custom ROM development? And which of them are currently under development?
6.) I have read that bootloader of model Wildfire (without S) is encrypted as well. So how is it possible that there are already easy solutions to root it (without xtc clip)?
7.) My question 5b was ment generally: is it generally possible to add Bluetooth profiles by custom ROMs?
8.) Have you heard that HTC intends to release a Wildfire S+ version with increased internal memory? Could we expect it maybe?...
Thank you so much again. Hope youknow about the answer to my further questions...
Best wishes
1) Yes it is
2) There is no other method. I used gingerbreak to root mine. Took about 2 mins maximum. Unrevoked is not needed or the other method you mentioned. Also AlphareX is now in public beta so you could make your S-off by using that software but you need to be running Linux.
3)Yes if your phone is already S-off the clip is not needed
3b) I expect it will be shortly after the sensation release as they are making software to unlock the bootloader
4) It unlocks the bootloader by turning off the security flag allowing you to have full control over the phone.
5) I don't know of any progress, as its a new phone not many devs will have had a chance to get it.
6)This is because the bootloader is lower. 2.1 was able to be rooted using unrevoked but if you updated OTA to 2.2 the bootloader became encrypted and you would need the xtc clip to root it.
7)I wouldn't know for sure unless I had access to custom roms.
8)No I have never heard of a Wildfire S+ I don't think there will be one.
Hallo,
so these are my final responses to you:
1.) Where can we get Data2SD custom ROMs? There is no extra place at XDA-developers...
1b) I suppose that a custom ROM can be - dependant from its function - dependant just from the Android version, even phone model specific or completely independant from both, right?
How is it with Data2SD?... (s. brutzelstube.de/2011/data2sd-installieren-die-losung-aller-speicherprobleme: no dependancy is specified!)
2.) To 2, repeated again to make it really clear: you can use either Gingerbreak (Win), AlphareX (Linux) or unrevoked3 (Win) up to HTC's Android 2.1. for rooting. There is no difference in result between them... For >= Vers. 2.2: if boot loader is unlocked you just cannot use unrevoked3, but AlphareX and Gingerbreak. If boot loader is locked here you can only us xtc clip instead. Correct?
3.) To 3: you misunderstood my question. I didn't talk about S-off but about locked boot loader. I supposed that xtc clip is necessary ONLY if the boot loader is locked. Otherwise rooting can also be done with S-on. Correct?
4.) To 4: that is what I knew already. No, I was just asking myself HOW xtc clip can unlock a boot loader. It seems to be plugged to the SIM contacts for that... If you know more about the meachnism it would be fine but this question is not so important anyway. Just interest.
5.) To 5: Means that it will last about half a year until Data2SD custom ROM will be available (for Gingerbread or Wildfire S)? I just would like to have an idea...
On the other hand aren't there already plenty of Data2SD custom ROMs as those seem to be independant from Android version or phone model (s. 1b)!?...
6.) To 7: so there really never was any custom ROM adding a Bluetooth profile yet??...
Sorry, that I still did not come to an end asking you... ;-)
Hope, this is the last time now.
Anyway I now decided to wait until the release of Sony-Ericsson Xperia Mini as it is available in July already. This model is even more compact and internal storage shall be 320 MB. So Data2SD might not be necessary here. But if I like this one as well, I will see...
Many greetings to you.
Reminder
Hallo community, hallo Imlgl,
is there really nobody being able to answer my last questions below?...
Would be really very nice.
