[Q] TI backup won't restore apps & CIQ - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

I just upgraded from a SGS-T959(running miui) and just before I bought this phone I backed up all of my apps. I rooted the phone and now when I go to restore them, it doesn't work.
How do I get around this? (preferably without having to flash another rom)
Also, Lookout CIQ detector is telling me I have CIQ installed on here. So I froze it, yet it still says its there(I read another thread saying I have to freeze it.)
How do I manually remove it, if possible?
Edit: removed CIQ completely in TI.

Your TiBu is probably looking for your backups on the internal sdcard. Change the directory in your TiBu preferences to external.
This is all a guess... you didn't give much detail about what wasn't working.

I copied the backups from the old phone directly to the TI folder on this phone, then I did a batch restore and nothing restored even though it said it did.
Edit: when I try to manual restore it will ask me what to restore, but won't give me the option to choose anything

make sure you have the latest version of TI
it works perfectly fine for me
make sure you got root and busybox

You might need "Unkown Sources" enabled.
Note: Titanium Backup PRO/Donate does not need the "Unknown sources" setting to be enabled, only the free version does.

Question about root and titanium back up

I think i have properly rooted my device (incredible) but I am definitly a noob. I have rooted and have loaded the unresolved2 flash tool. for some reason I am having trouble getting titanium to find my apps. I am wondering if I am properly rooted. The reason why I think this is because when I use connectbot "whoami" comes up as not found under su - local. Can anyone help?
when you say titanium cant find your apps what is it doing thats giving you that sign? when you first installed it on your phone did you click problems and let it download the new busybox for it?
Try clicking on the problems tab and install that busybox that's what mine did and now i have 0 problems(knock on wood)

also, make sure you are not plugged in to USB when trying to use Titanium back up. I was plugged in at first and it wasnt working correctly until I unplugged and restarted Titanium over again.

ok im not really sure but i could think of a few things for you to check,
1. if you hit menu and then hit filters do you have both "all" selections checked?
2. when you click on backup/restore tab do you see your list of apps, i know this is really basic i am just trying to cover everything
3. on the overview tab i see;
(these first ones might be different depending on if you have the free version or the paid version but the root access one should deff be yes)
root access =>OK (busybox 1.15.3 from app)
hypershell (fast!) => YES
fast/auto app install => YES (using hypershell)
SQlite => YES (sqlite 3.5.9 included)
data directory: /data
external storage: /sdcard (ok)
backup directory: /sdcard/titaniumbackup
is this what you see?
also do you have the superuser app installed, and did you allow titanium backup access when you first installed it?
Mine looks exactly like that. Something I just noticed in super user permissions there was nothing in there for titanium backup.

Crazy Phone Crippling Titanium Backup Error!

I am guilty of a the crime of trying something without researching it for a change.
Yesterday, I moved all of my "user apps" to the sd card using the batch method in the application Titanium Backup. Everything worked fine until I rebooted, upon which all of my applications no longer appeared in my market under "downloads" or my app drawer. It also wouldn't let me reinstall them. Titanium backup won't install, so there I can't use the app to fix it.
Any suggestions?
Have you tried pushing the Titanium Backup apk to /system/app? If your apps on /data are screwed, you might be able to get to TB that way. (You can get the apk here if you need it.)

It only has seven apps there.
I think the problem may be that the apps are caught in a bad partition limbo.
Titanium backup's developer told me that once you get over 123 (weird) apps on your sd card and reboot this happens pretty uniformly.

[Q]Automatic install apps with install

I've got some apps that i need in android, so when i test a new build i have to install them all again.
So i'm wondering if there is a way/script that is installing the apps automatically when the build is making a new data.img?
Is there a way to make it myself? It works the same as linux on the pc?
I know you can have multiple build on your sd card, but it won't fit on my sd card. That's because i have a 2gb card and already 1,8gb is in use(android and maps for winmo tomtom)
Thanks in advance.
Well if you have the actual APK, just drop it in the AndroidApps folder - it'll get installed automatically.
Otherwise, Titanium Backup FTW. The free version is still very powerful, but application restoring is kinda painful on the free version - the paid-for version has a '0-click' batch restore, and I've heard it's very fast. I keep considering buying the app, I probably should
I have not been able to find out how to restore backed up programs using Titanium Backup. I did my backups for the programs that I wanted, deleted my data.img so I could try a new build, and when it rebooted Titanium Backup was not there. I reinstalled Titanium Backup thinking it would find the backed up files again, but apparently it stores the backups in the data.img file. I am not sure if this happens to be an issue that I have encountered solely or not, but it kinda aggravated me that it didn't do what it was supposed to do.
Any advice or knowledge of what I may have done wrong?

It stores the backups on the root of the sdcard in the folder TitaniumBackup. I have version 2.9.4 installed.

I checked that directory after I performed my backups, and the files were there, but when I reinstalled the app after wiping the data.img, the directory was empty. Apparently I must have needed to rename the directory prior to reinstalling Titanium Backup or something.

Probably when you where installing TB again, it emptied the folder.
Sounds likely. I will have to test that theory later on when I go to try a new build, if I remember to do so.

Titanium backup pro HOW TO BACKUP WTF??!!?!

So all the tutorials I see say to use "menu>batch" to backup user apps/data, but there is NO BATCH!! I ran backup and it just put a bunch of gz/tar files in a directory!!! So now after I've already updated ROM to JB, TB is not allowing me to restore these files.....or am I missing how to do this?? Why is this app so damn hard to find stuff? Is there any way to restore my stuff or I will have to revert to nandroid backup and use TB again??
BTW, i'm on version 5.4.2.2 pro version
Thanks,
Click the icon in the upper-right with the check mark to get to batch operations.
And those tar.gz files are your backups.
The batch button is on the upper right corner.
And yes TB does compress the back ups.

Your question is a mess. Your thread title is "how to backup" and your jumbled post is about "how to restore".
In any case, whatever tutorials you're reading are outdated, as TiBu hasn't used a "batch" ever since the ICS version switched to using the Action Bar.
So, to simplify TiBu for you:
1) touch the the little checkmark icon the upperright corner of TiBu
2) Backup your apps and data; not system data
3) Restore later
Easy.
All the rest of the TiBu stuff is for people who aren't afraid to figure it out and/or read their FAQ (no offense)
So I've checked everything in the app.... including the mentioned "check mark" button before posting here. It is not showing any of my backup apps. I've gone into prefs and verified the backup/restore directory. When I go to that directory i see everything but when I go to batch upper right button none of the options show my apps. It only shows the NEW apps on the NEW rom and no options to restore my previous 33 user apps.
Am I missing something here or is it just not working
Sorry about the hasty confusing post...
Open TiBu
Menu/preferences/back up folder location> whole device
it will search your entire phone fit a back up folder

I did that and I already had the location correct /storage/sdcard0/TitaniumBackup ...... 48 backups.
When I do what you say and do "whole device" it reloads the TB app data. Then I go into batch options and it still doesn't show my backups...
Any ideas? I will try to get screenshots, i'm not sure how on JB yet
Clear data to set everything to default then set the backup directory again and restart the app (or the phone) This fixed it for me.

Question, after running TiBu, and if I need to restore my phone to factory (w/ root). To restore my apps etc, I need to reinstall TiBu and run the restore?

If you bought Pro, install free version first, then pro.

[Q] Titanium Backup doesn't detect any backups after wipe

I accidentally deleted the contents of my SD card when installing a rom, and then I reverted back to CM 10.1. This obviously deleted all of my data, backups, ect but I had TB set up to sync with dropbox, so I had the backups. I wiped the phone and installed TB. I put the backups back onto the SD card and set the location in TB preferences. Now it will only detect a few of the backups. I've tried everything that I can think of or that I found on line but to no avail. Does anyone know a fix for this? I really don't want to lose all of my data.
bump
Did you install the Dropbox app and then enable Dropbox in TB's preferences?
Edit: Nevermind, I misunderstood. Usually when something like this happens to me it's do to apps being filtered out somehow. Make sure you have "All" selected for all the "Filter by..." options.

Thanks for the reply! Yeah, that was the first thing that I checked. There are no filters on. I even tried to reinstall TB and delete the settings file on the SD card, but it still won't recognize the backups.
I'm also gonna try to install CM 10 and see what happens. I don't have much hope though.
Ok, more info. I tried installing CM10, but it didn't do anything. When I set it to the backup directory, it only finds 13 backups, but there are well over 100 in the folder.
bump
I'm running out of hope, but bump.
Sorry man, but you gotta bite the bullet.
Grab a drink, go to play.google.com and reinstall the apps you want.
Has happened to me twice... makes a quick, simple flash on Sunday night turn into a tired lug to work/school on Monday morning.
My guess would be that the Dropbox sync in TB was never able to complete. Uploading gigs of files can take some time, even on a decent connection.

I had something like this happen. I put a new rom on and even though I didn't do anything to my backups now in Ti backup it says im missing a ton of them. There more backups then it claims I have apps.
Anyway I deleted all the history for the app, clear all pref , reinstalled and its working now use Ti backup to uninstall its self lol
Seeeveral months later, but I had the same problem. No version of my backups would be detected, etc. Happened after an incident while redoing a ROM. And this is the only thread anywhere that seemed to say anything about the issue.
What ended up working, for whatever reason: I cleared everything from my SD, probably not entirely necessary, just remove TB and it's folder. Reinstall, update TB. Do a new backup of everything. Then I hooked the phone to the computer, copied my old stuff into the folder, overwriting the many that asked for it. When I went back to TB and did a batch restore, it picked up all the previous programs.
Unfortunately, I did have to sit with my phone, and most applications would ask if I wanted to install it, click Install, then Done, then it would move on to the next. Or if it was a system application, just hit cancel and it would skip it.
But it fixed it. So, I'm not complaining too much.
Next step is to delete all backups, do NEW backups, then go forward from there. Will probably see about doing a full wipe and TB backup, which I sure hope works.
My fix
I logged in through adb as root and found that the external SD card was being hidden from Titanium. So I just copied the files as root onto a directory next to the existing Titanium back up (the one just created that it could see) via bash command
Code:
jfltexx:/ # cp -a /storage/6163-6233/TB_orig/ /mnt/sdcard/
I think each new release the Google people decide to move around the SD card and generally make it hard for old data to be seen by Apps on the new system in the name of security or some fancy new feature.
Painful but as I could see the SD card when plugged into my laptop I knew it was really there.
