[Q]Battery not charging to 100% - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

When I wake up and take my phone off the charger, it's always at like 98 or 97%. I have battery monitor and when looking at it, it shows that it gets to 100% through charging, then goes down to 98 or 97 and then stays at that state throughout the night.
Anyone else having this happen with their phone? With enough battery issues, it seems these 2 or 3% could be an hour of standby.

When the phone hits 100% on the charger it doesn't charge anymore to prevent overcharging.. pretty common feature in most phones nowadays.. if it goes below a threshold it charges again until 100 and the process repeats

same issue... my thunderbolt use to hit 100%, but the gnex stops at 99 or 98%. if i unplug the charger for few seconds, plug it back in and boom it goes to 100%

Same issue here. Seems to stay on 99 until I unplug charger and plug it back it.

This isn't an issue..

If you want to get 100% (not saying it makes a difference when it's showing at 98/99%, what volfman suggest it the best way to do it. I did it with my SGS2

it should charge to 100% in the first place. another bug that needs to be fixed... hopefully the 4g gets fixed first cuz with this, i can live with.
The reason i want `100% is cuz its nice to see the 100% rather then 99%.

My GN battery could only charge up to99%?

Hi, after three times full cycle charge(one through the socket on the wall and two via usb). I found my galaxy nexus battery could only be charged up to 99%, even there is a "complete" showed on the locked screen.
So do i need to reset my phone xia bootloader or anybody know how to solve that? Many thanks!!!!!!

Known, this is for battery protection. For example sgs2 showed 100% but it is not actually 100%.Galaxy Nexus shows the correct level.Dont worry
Mine only goes up to 97%! Very annoying.

98% here! Although I've gotten used to it now.

Have you guys tried to turn off your phone and then let it charge once it is full turn it back on? I noticied that was the only way
I was about to post here to ask about this, as I've noticed it as well. Good to hear it's normal, but I'm curious how it protects the battery.
This is standard charging behaviour and happens on the Nexus S too (which is currently my phone). There were similar questions on the Nexus S general forum about this behaviour too.
It is for increasing battery life. You should not charge it to maximum or discharge it completely. It's a well known fact about Li-Ion batteries...

Thanks mate~ I am new on Android, so just curious about this....
I have this issue too. I have noticed that if I unplug it and plug it back in, it will charge to 100%. I had assumed it was because I was using the Samsung 700ma charger. Guess not.
I have noticed my Galaxy Tab 7 does the same thing, but it will show 100% until I unplug it then it will go down immediately to a lower level, I plug it back in and let charge and it goes to 100%.
I have guessed that what is happening is that once it charges to 100%, it stops charging and starts using battery, thus the decrease. I have not watched it to try to catch it as soon at it done charging to see if this is the case as I always charge overnight.
I would guess that if I let it get low enough, it would start charging again. I know my laptop will not charge the battery unless it is 90% or less to prevent top offs that shorten battery life.

the way you used is exactly what my friend told me to do. He has the same issue, and if he unplug the charger when a 'complete' showed on the locked screen and replug it, you could get a 100%!!
Same problem here but I dont care.
I had this problem. My GN would only charge to 98% so I left it on charge for nearly 8 hours and it eventually got to 100% I carried out a battery calibration using this app from the market and its been perfect ever since I've even noticed an increase in battery life

Your not supposed to do this. Charging to 100% and/or letting it drop to 0% decreases battery life in the long run. This applies to all LI-ION batteries, in your laptop, or anything else.
You people that complain about 96-99% just need to get over it. It's like that for a reason. Don't go chasing mods the charge it to 100%, or ways to trick it into saying 100%, just accept that when it says charged it is.
edit: Sorry if I come off as an 8==D. Just tired of seeing posts like this (the nexus S does the same thing. Its by design for a reason.)
My galaxy nexus charges all the way to 100%. But when i leave it charging overnight, when i wake up its on 97%. I think its a built in safety feature to prevent the phone from charging when left plugged in for an extended period.

Oh good to know this is intentional.

Does the E4GT automatically stop charging when it reaches 100%?

I know most other samsung phones do but i was just wondering if it temporarily stops charging at 100% and starts again at 95% so it doesn't over charge

What I have noticed mine will reach 4196mV then drop to 4100mV or so. Then climb its way back to 4196mV, so it does "stop" but not like I have seen on HTC phones. This comes from me trying to calibrate my battery, I open battery app then if the mV's are to low I shut screen off. A few minutes later I will unlock screen to check for max mV's, to low its off with the screen again. I charge using USB and my PC while doing this, the only time I use the AC adapter is if I need a boost during the day.
Thank you. I just dont want to overcharge

Phone stuck at 99% while charging

I'm on FB17 and my phone is getting really hot while charging is stuck at 99%. It's been like this for a couple hours. anyone know what's up?

Is something running? When you're plugged in, you're still running off the battery. Mine only goes 100% if it's in standby while plugged in.
Nothings running at all

Turn off the phone and let it charge.
If that doesn't work, pull the battery and let it sit for 2 minutes
Yeah, I'm having the same issue. Also read a few others were as well. I'm going to try and recalibratey battery. Ill keep you posted.
+1 to Nibrs' comment. I would shutdown the phone completely, let it take a full charge WITHOUT the android OS running, unplug the charger, remove the battery for a few minutes then boot the phone back up. After it's been up and running and settled in, plug the charger back in once again. It could take 30-45 minutes to finish this last trickle charge.
I've had this issue since cm9 alpha 1. Don't really care.

Alright, are calibrating didn't work ( might of helped battery life tho) it charges to 100% only when my phone is off. As soon as I turn it on, its at 99%. I miss my blue led.

Mine will be stuck on 99% for a long time also but mine will eventually say 100%. It has to do with how the battery is charged. Once it gets to a certain point it only does a slow trickle charge to maintain the battery level. So for the 99% part it's supposed to do that but you shouldn't have those heat issues. Did you flash a new ROM recently by chance?

Since GB my phone has done this same thing. I just figured its an ICS thing...really if u think about it, ur phone is at 100% while charged...u unplug it and it is using battery so you're at 99.999 percent off the bat...seems like the phone just doesn't round less than whole numbers.

You're not actually fully charged when you unplug it. It would be in the 90% area because it doesn't constantly charge the battery. It stops once it gets to a certain point and then will start charging again once the battery hits a certain minimum level.
Well, took almost 12hrs of charging but finally got to a 100%. Btw. I'm on blu kuban rom. Not sure if its a ics bug or a battery issue. Never had this happen in stock.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA
I think it is supposed to float between 95% - 100% to avoid damaging the battery.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA
Don't know if this a factor but had this happen today on ff09. Battery jumped from 54% to 10% on one reboot (phone was hot)... Rebooted again and back up to 26%.
Got home, plugged in on LG cord to 99%. Changed to Sammy charger, finished 2 hrs later.

How many cycles have you gone since flashing? I have been on blu kuban for over a month now. I update the instant I see an update. Most times it takes around 3 full battery cycles before I see decent life. This last update seemed to take longer than usual to see normal battery behavior. First I would try draining battery to 5%, run battery calibration script in the updater then fully charge and calibrate again. If it continues I would recommend the standard restore to stock and reinstall.

Cm9/AOKP battery weirdness

So, my battery will charge to 100% and when I unplug it, it stays at 100%. Thing is, with the battery still showing 100%, when I plug it back in, it drops down to 99% and keeps charging. I've switched batteries, pulled batteries, deleted stats, etc. and it still happens. Any ideas or suggestions?
Thanks

Why would you plug it back in anyways if its already at 100%? Does it affect your overall battery life? If not don't worry about it.

Because when I'm sitting at my desk at work I leave it charging. And yes, my battery life is pretty ****ty lately.

When the phone is charged at 100% it obviosly stops charging but it still displays full charge, so when you unplug its actually discharged a little since it hit 100%.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda app-developers app
Right, but it drops to 99% when I plug it back in. That shouldn't happen. It has never happened before, even when GB had charging glitches.

Theory:
When your phone is unplugged it uses the upper register during the battery drain until it meets a point where it changes to the next number. So after you unplug and your phone is draining battery it will still read 100% even though it is really going 99.9...99.8...99.7... until it reaches the defined lower register (any chosen spot not necessarily the next whole number) and then shows 99%.
When you plug your phone back in it uses the lower end and counts up. So even though when you unplug for just a moment and the charge is at 99.999% it reads 99% to let you know it isn't fully charged. It is charging that little bit.

Baterry issue with the ZL

My battery in my ZL drop fast, it is charged at 100% for several hours, when I unpluged the electrical socket, it's at 99% in less than 3 minutes. My iPhone 4s will last for half a hour before drop to 99%. What is going on with the battery life?
Sent from my C6506 using xda app-developers app
Well, as i have readen several battery care threads here in xda, the charger, when the battery is full, to prevent overcharging or something else that may damage the battery, (correct me if i'm wrong) it stops charging until 99% or 98% and it charges again to 100% and then it keeps doing the same all the time until you unplug the charger (just in your case that you disconnect the charger when it's recharging again when it's almost full) That may be why.
Hope this helped
Sent from a phone >.<
That is strange because I do not see while charging when it hit 100% to go back to 98 or 99%. Not even my iPhone when I got it did this. (I sold it)
Sent from my C6506 using xda app-developers app
It damages the battery if you charge it to 100%, that's why most phones stop shortly bevor the battery would be completely charged. So if it shows 100% it is not really at full 100, that's why it drops right back to 99. That is also why it takes less time to go from 100 to 99 then from 99 to 98.
The iPhone does the same, it just stops at 99 and tells you it would be at 100 (it's actually cheating 1%).
These methods are build in because people love to charge till it reads 100, so they don't damage the battery doing that.
Also, remember the numbers you see is not really the true charge of your battery.
