For the past week or so, I've been having issues where I will drop to 1X in places where I would usually get a steady 3G signal. I'll have two bars (-85 dB), and show 3G, but when I actually go to use the data connection it drops to 0 bars and switches over to 1X. If I stop accessing data for a brief period it will return to normal.
Does anyone have any ideas? I had been using the 11.19 radio, but flashed back to 9.01 and saw no improvement. I've done the "update roaming capabilities" a few times, and every time after I've flashed a radio. I'm running CM7.0.3. I'd appreciate any suggestions. Thanks.

I was having data issues like yours in cm7.0.3. I don't think your alone in this situation. Other people have had trouble with this as well. I don't think its a radio problem because I swapped radios with the same results each time. I would roll back to an earlier cm release and wait for the next update. That's what I'm doing.
Ah, I didn't think the ROM really had anything to do with reception. Glad I checked, thanks.

Well, I just flashed OMFGB and I'm experiencing the same problem. Is it a known issue in OMFGB 1.2 as well?
EDIT: I just flashed back to CM 7.0.2.1 and I have the same issue. I guess it's either my phone or Verizon.

i started having this issue recently on miui 4.29 and it persisted onto 5.6. started happening after updating radio to 4.08 but i haven't been bothered enough to try changing back to an older radio.
I think it may just be Verizon. I have the same issue from time to time on SR 4.0 rom, with the stock radio.
Yeah I'm pretty sure its an issue with Verizon, roms really shouldn't effect your service and they never have with me.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
I'm not rooted and on stock and i'm having the same issue. Def verizon.

Me too...
It's been happening with stock, Redemption, and now with Sky Raider.
I flashed the new 04.08 radio and everything worked great. Just about a week ago I started having the same issue. Flashed back to 11.19 and stock 07.28 and having the same issues. At this point I'm thinking it's a VZW issue, very possibly them getting their 4G towers in place.
Alright, I'll hope it comes back.
For a few months I've been having some GPS accuracy problems, and I was wondering if the two were related. GPS test will show 20 ft accuracy, but it will be showing me on a street 100 ft away.

I'd be running with el29
Currently on fd19

Haven't seen much difference and I been on it all day. 4g seemed to connect a little bit better.

MOST modems will perform the same, to be honest. Sprints network is slow as it is, not like flashing a new modem will make a jump in speeds. Its a placebo anyway. With EVERY new modem, the same people will say 3G is better, or 4G is better, or Wifi, Gps, ETC. when in actuality......it doesnt!
Ive had fairly good luck with most of the modems. But today I was not happy with FE07. 4G kept dropping out alot and way too many times 3G was not working. But it works enough to not complain yet. If it goes on for more than another day I will double check FD26.
From EK02 up I can expect up to 15 Mbps on 4G and 500 Kbps to 2 Mbps on 3G. If I see those figures pop up over the course of a week I figure its doing alright. If I have a horrible experience the entire week, crappy performance and never hit anywhere near those numbers then I begin to suspect something. Nearly every modem I have been on had 1.40 to 1.49 Mbps on 4G Upload. When that goes sour on a modem all the time its a quick sign if it persists.
best modem for GPS so far?
Which modem seems to lock on the best with GPS. On EL29 and it isn't very good at all, connects for a while then drops leaving me hanging or won't connect at all. Are they all pretty much the same in this regard? My EVO 4G was really good on GPS.

Samsung devices have not been known for having the best GPS hardware. EL29 is the latest official release but there are several ICS modems available. Try some of them and see how it goes... latest is fe07 found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1642564

Right now, I'm running CM9 alpha 3 / kernel fd10 / modem el29.
Question: What would be the benefit of flashing the FE07 kernel?

You could brag to your friends about having the latest ICS kernel installed
I like to listen to a streaming talk show on my phone when I shower in the morning. I need wifi to do it, no data at home. Some modems will not connect to my wifi in the same bathroom which is the furthest from the router. Other modems will connect with a strong connection. I don't think every modem is the same.

Well I have had gps issues with all the ICS leaks but I have noticed big differences in speed between certain modems fd19 is a solid modem but fe07 is just as fast for me and my gps actually works especially in navigation and our app places.
The top 3 speeds are on fe07 the bottom 3 are fd19 on 4g

FE07 has been good for me so far. Some of the leaks really crippled my 3G, but FE07 seems to work just as well, if not better, than EL29 - at least for me anyway. Haven't tested GPS yet.
For me, No modem seems to work. I guess I'm plain out of luck. There are no towers near me so my phone ALWAYS(sometimes) fails to send text messages or even make calls.
Anyone one have any suggestions I can try?

You should ALWAYS(sometimes) switch to another carrier.
But seriously, allow roaming if you haven't done so already.
Wouldn't I get charged extra for roaming?

You should be ok as long as you're in your coverage area. I roam all the time and don't get charged extra. I think it has to do with whether you're on Sprint's towers/network or not, and whether those towers are in your coverage area. Might be worth a *2 to Sprint to find out.

Use roam control to force roaming. They will eventually send you a letter telling you they're canceling your account (no early termination fee) due to excess roaming, and you can sell your E4GT and go to another carrier!

Sometimes my phone, even when there definitely is signal, would say searching for signal. It would take a couple reboots before I get my signal back. Even tried manual registration, it would get stuck registering on the tmobile network. Im running darkside v8, could anyone help with this annoying issue?
Flash another radio?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-T989 using xda premium
Trying lc8 radio , hope this solves the issue
Sent from my SGH-T989 using Tapatalk 2
For Darkside ICS roms, you need to use their modded radios, if you don't flash theirs, you will get data and signal issues. Check their thread for downloads.
I tried this , still didn't help. I switched to cm9 and installed the recommended uvle1 radio , and I still had the same problem. Either I had to manually register on T-Mobile or keep rebooting until signal came back (I'm in a full signal area)

I'm pretty certain this is an ics issue for some people. I had same thing last night, flashed gb, instant signal. If yours is consistent then I suggest running logcat to see what android is doing .

My wifes is doing the same thing. It hasn't ever been rooted. Sometimes all she can get is E or G and then it drops. We have 3G area but it doesn't pick it up. Maybe I need to root it and flash a new radio. Any thoughts would be great. Thanks

Hmmm strange , actually, mines worked fine before I upgraded to an ics rom , either cm9 or darkside evo . No signal drops whatsoever , not sure what's going on now , sim card seems to be fine , no drops In a froyo sidekick 4g

A strange update on this thread, my problems with signal loss are now gone now that I'm on cm10
Edit: when it boots I have to make sure its 2g/3g setting otherwise it boots with no signal

Disregard what I said in my previous post, I'm really hoping for a real solution/possible flaw with my gs2. I had to move my sim in my sidekick 4g, because my gs2 didn't seem to pick up any signal, and registering on the network would take forever . This is the biggest problem I have with my gs2. I can't always be moving my sim to the sk4g everytim my gs2 doesn't want to pick up signal, its very inconvenient. If it helps at all, I've had this issue every since I've gone beyond gb (this only seems to happen in ics and jb)

I am looking for a good modem suggestion, I am aware that different modems affect different phones differently, but I am just trying to find a good stable one. I am yet to find a model that gives me 1000+kbps except for FF09 but gps on it takes about 15 minutes to get a fix. On the contrary FF18 gives me speeds of about 300-500kbps, so only about half, but my gps locks instantly. I'm not sure if anyone else there has similar issues, and but even if you don't, I can you suggest a good modem? I have also tried el29 and FC24. el29 had speeds of about 40-50 and FC24 had 1000+ but would never get a gps fix. ever.
Im on FF18 as well. But is different on all phones. For me FF18 is better than el29. But it takes me a bit to get a gps lock

As both you and gding said it varies a lot from phone to phone, there really is no substitute to flashing, using it for a few days, then trying another... for me el26 and ff11 work well, but I'm more concerned with maintaining signal over speed or anything as 3g in my area sucks and can kill my battery quickly if its constantly dropping and rescanning...
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda app-developers app
Very true. I have tried almost all of them so far. But FF18 i get better reception. From -95 dB to-86 dB. Im not looking for speed either. I live in NH. They dont believe in tower. Lol

I'm often connected to Wimax 4G but there is no internet connection. I'm using the latest I27 modem. I've had this issue with previous modems as well. Is there an issue with the OS not renewing the IP address?
Just wondering as this is definitely bugging me.
I'm using Paranoid Android 2.16.
Thanks!
Try a modem known working to you?

This is a question and should be in the Q&A section.

It can be a number of issue you can determine ONLY yourself. I'd flash back to a stock ROM of your choice, along with EL29 modem (my personal favorite). Try out the 4G connection and see if it works then. It can also just be that the 4G towers around you are down or not working properly. Give clearWire a call if you have concern.

I get that sometimes too. I like how everybody just told you go to a previous build when you clearly stated it was present in them too. When it happens to me I just disconnect and connect again. This also happened when I owned an og Evo and the og epic. This has been a issue since the beginning of wimax. It freezes and all u see is the download arrow continuously blinking and won't sleep.

No he said; " I've had this issue with previous modems as well".Keyboard is modem, not another ROM/build. Did you mean modem by build? I personally think he should call up sprint or clear. They will be able to tell him if there is issues in his area. Or its possible be lost his WiMax keys? I seen that issue on previous devices like evo 4g and evo 3D.

Ok true he did say modem so I take the builds part back. But in all honesty this has nothing to do with either. It happened on all my 4G Wimax phones. And I doubt there's a fix besides toggling 4G off and on. 4G Wimax always had this happen from time to time in my experience with other phones besides the E4GT.
Edit: also I've noticed it happens a lot when your 4G connection is only at one bar. So I guess coverage plays a role in it.

Could be that he is indeed under weak wimax signal or near the edge of it. He prob has his settings to connect above the -89dbm. So it connects but cant process it.
I think it's just wimax. I'm in Tyson's corner, VA on the Beltway heading towards Maryland. moving from a 3G network, connecting to a 4G Wimax but it's probably for about 20 seconds, then I'm probably on the edge of it. So it seems like it connects but never gets internet connection, unless I toggle the 4G button again.
