Dead pixel ! - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Hi there. While I was looking at the beauty of my screen, I noticed this little dot. So I freaked out. I never noticed it before so it might be either a glitch or a recently made damage. Anyways I downloaded a dead pixel tester and I saw it in different colors but it is not there when I display the green color on my screen. So this might be a stuck sub pixel? It kinda changes its color when I change the colors of the screen. Anyway, I thought that maybe it was there all along but I never noticed it so I opened the camera and BAM it's noticeable! So what caused this? I'd there a fix? I would like to keep the phone replacement the last option because I ordered from handtec.co.UK and I live in Kuwait so I will wait a while
Thanks

It's not fixable. Exchange your phone if it bothers you enough

I think there are some apps you can try which can "unstick" a dead pixel. Other than that you'll need to get it replaced

There are two types, Stuck and Dead pixels. You can unstuck a Stuck pixel by rapidly forcing it to change colour (rare, but possible to fix). There is no way to fix a Dead pixel other than replacing the screen.

There is no such thing as a stuck pixel with a amoled display, only lcd mobile displays. (Since the pixels produce there own light and don't move a shutter to adjust the backlight.)
If it's bothering you just exchange it.

those apps suck. i must have tried every single one when i had a dead pixel on my Rezound and they didnt help at all. its definitely going to have to be an exchange.

are you sure that is a bad pixel and is not a speck of dust?
poweroff the display, than point a powerful lamp on the phone and see if you see the speck. Personally I have a speck of dust that seems to be a bad pixel but it isn't a bad pixel.
Samsung build quality is really poor and dust may happen.

I have a stuck pixel on my Galaxy Nexus - the green subpixel was on full brightness. I ran a pixel fixer app that really helped - now it's at about half brightness.

Wow this is new to me I had no idea this could happen. Any ideas the reasons behind this and why it can happen?

Screen defects?

After a few hours of playing with the VZW Nexus, I noticed a thin, vertical line of pixels that are lighter than the surrounding area. It's really noticeable on white to gray screens.
Has anyone else noticed such a defect on their display? Would VZW exchange it? I probably won't be able to get to a VZW store until the weekend is up, and I'm worried that they will assume the delay means that I caused the issue.

Yep I got em looks like a faint checker board

I think that's just an artifact of amoled screens in general. AFAIK, SGS2 had the same issue.

Are you sure? What I have looks more like stuck pixels; a line of pixels that are firing at a consistently higher brightness than the others. I had a Droid Charge before this phone and never had this issue.

The Charge doesn't have the same screen, it was SAMOLED+, the Galaxy Nexus is just SAMOLED.
That said, I'd need a better idea of what you mean, or how you're testing it. But I don't think I see it, and I'm pretty picky about my display.
I am a little disappointed in the odd washed-out look it has, almost like the gamma's too high.
Anyway, Verizon would probably exchange it, but you'd probably need to call in and have them ship you one. Going in-store you'll be fighting with stubborn sales reps who aren't getting a single dime of commission off their time with you.
My first unit had that, my current one doesn't. Try for an exchange, mine is perfect, but took two tries.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA App
Is there a way of fixing it, like how you used to be able to fix old tv's with a magnet?
i have the same issue... and i can`t make an exchange because i bought at USA and know i`m in BRAZIL. =/ have some way to correct this problem??
thanks
Judging by the crickets chirping, looks like the only thing you can do is exchange it.
Has anyone had any luck with replacements? I get the vertical/horizontal line issue at lower brightness, but even at higher brightness solid colors look somewhat grainy.
I had a vertical line and some random spots with pixel problems. It wasn't visible during the day, but at night those pixel were darker than all the rest. Got a new phone within a couple of minutes in the store.

Try this Test, Post your results

Ok, I have just noticed this, not sure what it means. but it's something that can be easily tested by everyone in a few minutes.
While in gentle alarm in nightmode. the screen is all black and the digital clock is shown, I noticed black lines across my screen and really black dots peppered all over the screen, mostly at the top closest to the earphone. I'm thinking they are dead pixels but not sure.
To reproduce it, I downloaded SBMX, a paint app like photoshop. I painted the canvas black, turned off the lights and after my eyes adjusted, I can see the same pattern of black pixels all over the screen. there is one line near the top of the screen that goes right across.
If some people can try this and post your results it would be very appretiated. If they are dead pixels, I will return the phone.
If they were dead pixels you would see them no matter what color the screen was.
My nexus has those spots while displaying black. My Vibrant also have the dots. Its just how amoleds are, I'm not sure about the amoled plus

I would try but it's broad daylight here.

That is pretty crappy. I'm sure most people could live with it and I probably will but it kinda erks me that this is the best they could do. I mean if it were a few phones in a bunch, but for all of them to be like it don't seem right.

It's how the screen technology is.. we had a lot of threads like this a while ago.
The conclusion was: "When are you ever going to be looking at your phone in pitch black, on a black screen, with the brightness set to 1?"
From what I have read it has something to do with Super Amoled and the glue used.
My Nexus is not near as bad as the Razr I had. Check out the Razr thread on this.
Ocassionally I would notice on my Razr when using the phone at night, without having to "look" for it.
I can honestly say that I have to try hard to see this on the Nexus, and I have never noticed it in general use, even at night. It shouldn't keep you from enjoying your phone!
edit: so much for that build quality argument they keep throwing around
lol had to say it.
I noticed this on mine in bed the other night ,it is all along one edge in landscape mode. can't see it at all in normal use though...

what do you do to prevent your galaxy nexus screen burned in?

No real way to prevent it, but you can fix it easily by using Screen Diagnostic from the Play Store.
Its not a burn in, but a ghosted image. I watch YouTube videos and keep auto-rotation on. However, when I replaced my last Nexus (because of ghosting) this Nexus hasn't had the issue and I've had it longer. It may just be an actual display issue. If you get the issue you can bug Samsung/Verizon/Sprint and they'll probably send you a replacement.

The only area where I have any type of "ghosting" is where the status bar sits, and even that isn't noticeable unless the brightness is cranked up to full on a white screen. I don't really worry about it. My Nexus S has it where the status bar sits and I haven't had the issue anywhere else on the screen.
I do... I do nothing. I just use my phone the way i like and have no issues. It's been nearly year and screen is absolutely fine.
First of all, if you got warranty, go get it replaced. They might do it! I broke my screen and I bought another one officially and it's PERFECT. ABSOLUTELY perfect! So try that first!
If that doesn't help, try playing with some color values and gamma options - This helped my previous screen from ghosting and all.

Some screens really are perfect
It's a defected one my man.
On amoled screens the pixels 'fade out' over time. The pixels basically get less intense the more you use them. Because the notification bar and the soft buttons on a Galaxy nexus have a black background these pixels are hardly used at all. The rest of the screen is. So the rest of the pixels wear out faster than those in the notification bar and the soft buttons. That is how the ghosting forms. So a new screen should have zero problems, but after a year or less, the effects can already be seen.
I had this with my Nexus One and now with my Galaxy Nexus, although the ghosting was far worse on the Nexus One. Next time no more amoled for me.

Nexus display problem.

Hello
I`ve just noticed that my galaxy nexus has some wierd "ghost yellow menus" when everithing is white.
I have attached some pictures.
What can I do to get ridd of them?
Looks like screen burn-in, which is unavoidable with an AMOLED display. My GNex has similar banding from the notification bar, soft-key bar, and the address bar in Chrome (which is why I've stopped using Chrome and reverted to stock Browser.)
I don't know if there's a way to fix it, but the fact is that if you have a static image displayed on the screen, it will retain itself, much like a plasma TV.
Man I hate the blue burn in the notification bar and the nav bar

Isnt it the rest of the screen that have some kind of 'burn in' Or more specific, the rest of the screen is degenerated/worn? The yellow hue wasnt present on my first GN when I got it. I have two GNs, the newest is more bluish/cleaner white - crisper..

Rotate the screen every now and then. If yoru phone is still under warranty, you can ask Samsung to replace it for you. Hopefully the new batch or SAMOLED are less prone to burn in.
If this common on sampled screens why don't I have this issue ?

Yeah. The pixels of these displays wear out slowly but surely with use (and subpixels of a certain color - green, I believe, although I'm not 100% sure right now - wear out faster than the others), but since the notification and navigation bars are mostly completely black (meaning those pixels are turned off and barely get used at all) those areas don't get worn out like the rest of the display does. So it's not that the bars are "burned" into the screen, it's rather that those areas are in better condition than the rest of the display.

I was thinking that too but did you guys notice that when the screen is displaying back it is not absolutely black? The pixels do glow a little bit for faster screen switching (it was mentioned in some other posts). I think it could also be this static glow that causes the burn in.
What's this about a new batch? Did Samsung start using new displays with the GalNex recently?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
Sorry, I meant like a production batch. Don't thing they will use new displays with the Gnex.
I have insurance thru VZW which gives me a 2 year warrantly. I already had VZW replace 2 Gnex's, because of screen burn in, and if I get burn in again, I'll have them replace it again. They really don't give you a problem with replacing the phone, just tell them you did all like troubleshooting methods like factory data reset etc. and the burn in remains. They will send you a "like new" refurbished replacement. All the replacements I have got have been in great condition. If you are under warranty do not tolerate screen burn in, get it replaced immediately.
I've seen 5 gnex and each one of them had different screen. I mean every one looked different, worse or better. It looks like producing a good quality amoled display is very difficult or Samsung has very low QA for them... I wouldn't worry about it if I were you. Just use it... It's not that you often display static full screen gray background.

I think it's more common with the people who brag about their 3 or more hours of on screen time a day.
Those of us who are more like 30 mins to an hour a day of on screen time are not going to be affected near as fast.
its also for me
and also for most of nexus devices even nexus 4...
wierd...

Screen not white it display's a yellow tint

I have a problem in which I'm not sure if my device is defective. I am aware Amoled screens are very contrasty and displays deep blacks but poor whites . My concern is the white which shows off-white,dull and yellowish on my GN3. My previous devices were the HTC One with S-LCD 3 and the Nexus 4 with IPS display. With little tweaks the color production was perfect and the white's were white on those devices. I don't know if I'm spoiled by the LCD display's or my units defective. I've tried all the screen mode from adapt display to movie with no avail. I currently own a Nexus 7 (2nd Gen) which also has a LCD screen in which I compared the note 3 white level. Maybe my eye's just need to get use to the amoled screen or maybe it's defective, please any input would be appreciated. I've attached a photo with the Nexus 7, GN3 and Galaxy Nexus I know its a bad comparison and crappy pic but hopefully it helps.
Do you have a screen brightness app installed such as Lux? If so, you need to change the nightmode settings, I had the same problem and realized the app was giving a filtered tint to my scriin such as the one you described.

Samsung took Apple's approach and made their screens yellow, for added warmth. LOL.
