[Q] is Tmobile SGS2 worth it? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

Walmart don't have it and I ain't doing any online retailer. Anybody that's paid the up front $289 think it's worth it?

Yes.
10chars

I paid $529 up front cuz I didnt want contract. This BEAST is worth every penny! Just need to root this baby to unlock its full potential.

I personally didn't see an omfg difference from my hd2 really. If anything, the most noticeable difference will stem from browsing and that is likely due to the increased sinternet speeds than CPU speeds. If you have a 1ghz device already, I say hold on till the summer. 2ghz phones and ICS are on their way already. I consider these phones to be stepping stones that is IF you can wait

yes

So far it is worth it.. I came from a g2x and sensation

Are you guys ordering some how and avoiding tax? Freakin taxes here are 10% and cost me almost $50.

No, my total was $341 but I will get $50 back in the mail, so total was $291
I'm in Cali..

I went in expecting full price. I changed my plan to a new one and walked out paying 326 after tax. I just downgraded to a nexus s 6 months ago.

I think he's talking the craigslist ebay route... I've bought many phones off contract but never from the carrier. The carrier inflates the price on purpose for off contract phones to make it look like you are getting a killer deal by signing a new contract and getting the discount.
It cost me a little more but I would rather be out of contact...I can go to any carrier especially since sprint is screwing everyone on discounts....I will sell epic touch for 250 - 300 .... That means I will pay 300 for sgs3 & not be in contact ....gives me more options to upgrade earlier.....I can choose any bad ass phone they come out with....
when you buy a phone overseas you pay full price, but you choose any carrier you want....and any phone you want as they are gsm .... Really nice when you want to switch phones you take out Sim card and put it in another phone and it's on ... no stupid prorated bills and such

New Sprint Buy Out Plan

I just got off the phone with a rep dealing with bla bla bla on my phone then i started a convo about the SG3. I told him i am no where near due for a upgrade but i would love to get the phone he stated that sprint has a new buy out program. just to sum it up, sprint would buy my phone back from me ET4G ( in perfect condition)for 300 bucks for right now he said value might drop alil when SG3 release but it should be close to that. I think sprint is pretty cool for sprint to buy back my close to what i want ( unless someone on CL would pay more ) to help me get a new phone without upgrading. hope this helps anyone

Sprint has had Buyback for years now, they just recently started pushing it harder.
I can safely say that the buyback value on the E4GT is not $300, it's $105 like a previous poster said.
You can trade it in at THE SHACK and get $300: http://radioshack.cexchange.com/online/home/index.rails
There may be a deal for it, close to $300, when the sg3 drops.. I remember when the evo3d came out, they had a deal where they bought back your original evo for $150, which was a pretty good for that old of a phone.
Nice that radio shack trade in the e4gt is 300 I will take that offer n pay retail price for the sg3 when it comes out

I wouldn't count on getting anything close to that once the sg3 is out, or even the evo lte for that matter. Once this phone is not top of the line that price will plummet.

The price is already plummeting because of how slow and behind the times sprint is. I'm soon to sell my e4gt and swap to a gsm model and it looks like the gsm versions go for about 100 more. Kind of sad.

That's not the program they're talking about. That is the buyback value for recycling the old device. Not the amount to pay to get out of a contract.

Would sprint buy the epic 4g?

I just realized I qualified for an upgrade since april. I was thinking it was in augest.
Anyway, I wanna buy a new phone. I really don't want to sell my epic because I love it and I just want a new phone to keep on the side and not to actually use. So my number would stay on the epic and I would get a newer phone for my music and games and stuff. I don't think anyone would do this but I am lol I need my keyboard.
So I was thinking gs3 or epic touch.
But just incase I have to pay an amount of money that I don't have and I would have to give up my epic to get a newer phone would sprint buy this phone from me for a reasonable price? Like let's say $100?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA
I think Sprint will give your around $30-35 dollars.
You will get much more if you sell it online or some such.
You can use your upgrade to get a new Phone, probably around $200, and just not activate it, and then you can keep using your Epic.
Thanks said, if your Epic is in working order, and has a clean ESN, I would give you $100 for it.

Sprint doesn't allow buy backs of any of their devices which have dirty ESNS. Corporate retail employees who do this sort of thing can and will be subjected to disciplinary action of up to and including termination of employment. I know this personally from seeing about half a dozen of employees in our DM's market promoted to customer. You have to remember people that Sprint has a report on just about anything you do in RMS and are able to drill down to employee ID level.
They wanted to give me $60 for mine when I upgraded, but I decided to keep it and try selling it for a little more private.

[Q) buying through best buy?

Saw this phone on best buy for 150 and I'm eligible for a 2 year agreement just wanted to know if any of you guys have bought through best buy before?
If so Does your plan changed in any way whether it would be data?
Reason why I ask is because T-Mobile is always making it impossible for their customers. I see it as a smart investment worse comes to worse down the line I can always opt out and pay that 200 penalty to get out, I would still have my s3.
Sent from my SGH-T959V using xda app-developers app
I hate Best Buy but couldn't resist their low prices so last year I bought 3 phones online. It work out good for me. Not only I end up paying for the phone much less than any other place, but also somehow I didn't have to buy a data plan with those purchases. I have a family plan and that did not change also.
Last week I tried to add fifth line to my plan and I had to add minimum $20 data to new phone so I'm not sure how it is now...

Long time - since there were Voicestream - probably 10 years.
I bought this phone from bestbuy in october since I was eligible for an upgrade and bestbuy had it for way cheaper than tmobile ever did. Only part of my plan that was suppose to change was my data plan but it never did actually change. I still have the same plan I had before purchasing the phone. No complaints
Thanks guys. Yeah its way cheaper than what Tmobile has it right now about 340 with the upgrade. You guys did it through the phone or in person. One rep I was speaking with told me that I can't get the phone in store because T-Mobile doesn't allow it? Is this true or just BS. I was going to get the blaze through T-Mobile but it was going to come out around 184 basically around same price I'm getting the s3 for through best buy.. Not a big Fan of the 4'7 screen but oh well.

I actually did mine online and I had no problems. Bestbuy also gives you the option to add a warranty I think but I'm not to sure since I didn't get one
the issue to consider is that BB will sell you the 2 year plan, which continues the "subsidy" (we all know it's baked into the monthly price, RIGHT?) even after you pay of the phone. Consider a tmobile store - and a value plan, where there is more of an up front cost (possibly), but the value plan is a purchase of the phone as a transparent process, and when it's paid for (20 months?) you keep the phone, and the monthly price drops.
If you can do a "small buisiness" plan - go for that! $40 per month to 1000min and unlimited (5GB at 4G speed). $50 for unlimited/unlimited. Add $20 for phone, and stll cheapest way to go...
Merry Christmas

Chance to pick up for $250. Yes?

I realize that this phone has been on the market for sometime but I'm currently sitting on a Captivate and want a bit of an upgrade.
Current and previous owners - would you recommend picking this phone up for $250 (unlocked and brand new) or is my money better spent on another device?
Thanks!
As much as I like this phone and will probably use it a couple more years til my contract is up.....you can probably get a better, maybe slightly used phone for just a bit more.

Definitely go for it unless you want to put another $100 on top. I don't know about your area, but where I live, I'd take a brand new S2 over a $300 dollar S3. There's a reason for the low price tag lol
It's not a bad phone at all for the price, but some surfing on Craigslist or Kijiji might have some options too. The Nexus 4 option is also quite viable.
Overall, I would recommend the Hercules, but for the money, there are a few other options as well. It's a good phone though if you do get it.
